..:E V A R I S:.. Underneath the shadows of the tree, two figures trudged along on a path towards civilization. One was a taller male palomino, lean yet built to be a fighter. Just behind him was a shorter female cream champagne, built for speed yet not at all for a fight. This was to be part of her downfall as she walked with her head lowered in defeat, roped to be sure that she could not run off. Her eyes scanned over the grass as her hooves smushed the greenery beneath her with each step. The light flickered over her folded iridescent wings as they passed under small patches of light, showing a beauty to her that she now seemed to lack. Her hair had been untamed, while her braid was coming undone. A tiredness overwhelmed her eyes, clouding them from time to time over lack of sleep.
Having had to walk through such a dense forest for a few days, she had lost her way. Onea had vast forested areas that were for her untrackable. Trying to fly over them had only made her more confused, which after day one of trying to fly over the trees she had given up. It had especially been hard when she had no help along the way. With stories of Cultists and Onean soldiers, she didn't dare wish to encounter them, at least until today. That morning she had taken a break to rest, only to be spotted by none other than a brute, a reckless soldier that jumped on a chance to catch her. Even with the exchange of a knife being thrown and her one chance to run, she was caught. Days after leaving the cabin, after having an argument with the closest thing to a friend she could have had, she made that big mistake to try and leave. And for what? A dream of Cascade, the same one she's had for years, and yet now she chose to run. Like many endeavors, it had turned out to be yet another big mistake.
It had been a surprise, yet all in the same she was used to this in an odd way. It had been the second time to happen in the last few months, and the third to happen in her lifetime. Of course, she didn't learn her lesson, though this time something was different. She regretted everything that she had done to get into this kind of situation, even the events leading up to it. Now, bound and being dragged along to an unknown area, she was left alone with this stranger and her thoughts. At first, she tried to sweet talk him the moment he caught her, though none of her nice words seemed to work in her favor this time. At a lower point in her life, nothing seemed to work in her favor anymore. With her usual tricks not working, she fell quiet for most of the trip, listening to any orders he had, if he had any. By now there was no point to fight what the gods were trying to push her into, even after Alya had given her otherworldly freedom, the mortal plane would always be a constant struggle.
Weakness crept past her confident facade, revealing a tired soul, unlike the horse she acted like towards this soldier beforehand. Being captured she was sure that again the captor wouldn't care about her woes, and was obviously unphased by her charm and appeal by the way they had acted beforehand. She had told him her name, had tried to flirt and make it all seem like it was this big misunderstanding, lie to him, and cheat out of it. In the end, it seemed as if she had no results, just like the last time, and the time long before that.

Cassiopeia Scout | Female | War Forged
Cassiopeia's hooves dragged sluggishly as the pair of scouts traversed the 'wilds' of some farmland back road. There was little gumption left in her gate as she slowly trailed after the younger scout she had been teamed up with for yet another 'mission'. It seemed as if whoever dolled out scout missions only valued the temperamental mare enough to let her babysit younger, less experienced scouts. If it were't for the golden eagle that had made a perch on the crest of her neck, she would have likely dozed off while walking. After a painfully long and boring winter, the mule had hoped for at least something mildly interesting to entertain for at least a day or two. But no. Wandering around the countryside and warding off other horses from a broken bridge was a far cry from what she had hoped she would be doing. It quickly became clear shortly after the pair had left that she was more than ready to let her younger companion take the reigns on the mission. It wasn't like he could possibly mess it up- hell, she'd boil down and eat her tack if the boy miraculously managed to. Even then, that would have been more interesting than walking around and fending off turnip farmers from a collapsed bridge. An annoyed huff escaped Cass, it was one of many that she had loosed on the trip and it surely wasn't the last.

Gwen | Farmer
Gwen took a deep breath as she walked down the forest road, appreciating the smell of pine tree and the first Spring flowers. The white mare smiled to herself and glanced up at the pale blue sky. Even though the air was still cool, it was definitely getting a little warmer each week. Gwen was looking forward to her favourite season, when the frozen ground thawed and strong saplings emerged.
The young mare was enjoying her walk back home, feeling good about accomplishing some errands for her father. Her smile grew as she thought about how useful she was becoming to her family and her herd. Just recently she received the plant manipulation blessing, a gift she could still hardly comprehend. Things seemed to be lightening up and Gwen was ready to make full use of that positive turn.
When the sun managed to peek between some of the branches it suddenly seemed to hang low, the light already fading. Gwen flicked her tail. The farmer’s daughter wanted to be out of the forest before sunset at least. She quickened her pace and followed a bend in the road that would lead her towards the bridge. Gwen paused as her eyes caught sight of some horses in the distance. It looked like a small crowd.

Ales|War Forged|Scout
Ales trotted a little ways ahead of his fellow scout, having his golden eagle scout the airways ahead of them to warn them of approaching horses that they needed to warn. As boring as the idea of just warning horses to stay away from a bridge until it was fixed, or fell completely Ales guessed, Dad said that it was an important part of the job for Scouts. It kept the herd, and whatever stock or goods they were carrying, safe. Didn't stop Ales from being just a little annoyed. He could do more important things, dang it! He had an armor and sword now and everything! He even wore the armor today to prove that.
At least he wasn't alone on this entire thing, as Cassiopeia was (once again) assigned with him on this. Though it seemed that the unicorn scout would rather be on any mission that wasn't this one, from the way she basically dragged her hooves and sighed every five minutes, which Ales couldn't really blame her for, seeing as Cass was a far more experienced scout. It would be like Lad being assigned to an escort mission for a bunch of farmers or Aly, Addy, and Kath being told to check out some little house in the middle of an empty path. Everyone complained on boring missions. On the bright side, there hadn't been a horse yet that was overly upset that they had to change paths to a new route. Sure this way was the most convenient route to take to Skeldr Town, but there's always another path until someone repairs this bridge.
Ales was snapped out of his thoughts as Jaggy cried out then came back to land on Ales' head, notifying him of approaching horses.
"Hey look, Cass, another group of passerbys." He called over to his current partner, before speeding up towards the direction that his eagle pointed out. "There's a bridge out in this direction! You'll need to go around."

The trio stepped into place behind Unferth & his prisoner on the trail toward Skeldr Town. Fox nodded at the Raider in greeting, giving him a wide berth to lead the pegasus mare along. Fox couldn't place the mare, but given her helplessness in ropes and the dark halo that shadowed her face, Fox had to assume the Raider was bringing her back to Hira for judgement. Curiosity tugged at her mind.
"Look," she whispered to Evokar, bumping him on the shoulder. "A prisoner. Makes you wonder what she did." She glanced at Adair briefly, wondering if the stallion would think her immature to be so curious in another equine's affairs.
They had spent a few days together traveling southward to the blacksmithing Guild Hall, and after checking into affairs there on Hira's behalf, the trio was now a day's trip from Skeldr Town & home. It felt weird to be out in Onea without wearing her Scout emblem. She had to keep reminding herself of her promotion. Thankfully the knowledge of the land didn't leave her, and she served as their unofficial scout when it came to navigation.
Evokar and Adair were fine traveling partners even in their relative quietness. The Shield was somewhat a stranger- she knew him from a distance- though he reminded her of her father. Stoic. Serious. Dutiful.
Evokar though... a little more familiar. A little softer.
By the time the forest opened up and the group reached the river, other bodies were gathering at the bridge's entrance. Fox's brow furrowed. Something was off.
"There's a bridge out in this direction! You'll need to go around."
Ales was the one who called out, Cassiopeia not far behind him. She knew the pair from afar, had sometimes been paired with them for trips. Though she had to bite her tongue to keep herself from checking the bridge with her own eyes.
Fox glanced at Evokar and Adair, realizing she had stepped out in front as if leading the three. Go around? She knew for a fact the next crossing was a half-day's travel away. This would delay their arrival.
"Are you sure? What's wrong with it? We don't really have time to reroute if we don't have to..." Her voice trailed off. That was only half-true. The sun was starting to set and Fox knew the nights in Onea were getting more risky to camp in. She didn't want to spend any more evenings out here than absolutely necessary.

Evokar of the Stone CircleYou know that he will give them everything until there is nothing left of him A trip away from the Circle was something that Evokar had not known he needed till he was was out with Adair and Fox. he enjoyed their company, enjoyed talking of something other then the war and what was to come of aiding such a thing. At times it seemed all the hung around him was ill news, so taking a moment to escape? Well Evokar hadn't known he needed it till he was out away from it, and could feel his former self coming out from hiding. Though traveling with the two, he had wished he was better at conversations, something that was more then small talk. Oh how at times it could be so painful, hows the weather? Or the family, not like it was not important to know, but it was like grabbing for air. A one way street to a pointless conversation.
A nudge from Fox, brought him out from his own mind and he peered at those traveling. He took sight on what seemed to be a prisoner, saw their emotion and part of him wondered what had happened. It clearly was nothing to terrible, otherwise more equines would be with the prisoner. Must be a small act, theivery trespassing? The small account could go on, and while he was not vocal with his curiosity, he was pleased to see Fox was. A small smile tugged at this lips at that, always so honest with things it felt like, not ever losing her self. He admired it greatly, a part of him hoping that perhaps this little trip of their a bit of her would rub off on him. He could use her spirit.
"Indeed it does, but it hard to tell what the issue is. Something minor I'd guess." he replied with a light voice. Though it seemed conversation had taken a deeper turn as someone spoke out of the bridge being wrecked. Well not much of a surprise there. Not the first time he had dealt with a bridge collapsing, and with his luck, he'd doubt it would be his last.
"How bad is the damage? Anyone hurt from it?" he remarked glancing at all the equines. Last time he dealt with a bridge it crumbled below others and thankfully from his blessing from Kaia he was able to ensure his people could make it out alive.

Adair | Shield
Adair padded besides Fox and Evokar, keeping eyes and ears alert to any sign of danger but relatively relaxed. The longer trip had been unexpected, but something he enjoyed. Adair hadn't left Skeldr Town for too long since becoming a Shield, and being out in the wilds reminded him of his time as a Raider, smelling the crisp air of Onea. Nothing quite felt like it.
Not that he wasn't looking forward to going home, though, because Adair simply didn't have enough time to spend with his newly wed wife, Chekilla. But alas, his loyalty to his herd and to Hira came first, and the trip had been fun. Adair found himself genuinely regretting having to appear to be on-duty for most of it, because Fox and Evokar were surprisingly nice to spend time with - something Adair enjoyed, given that most of his relationships revolved around family. He hoped he would someday run into them just as Adair and not as a their assigned Shield.
(Even though he still couldn't look back to when Evokar had asked about his family without embarrassment, his composure had crumbled away when he had talked about Chekilla. He needed to work on controlling his emotions better.)
Because he was younger than the other Shields, Adair found himself working extremely hard to prove himself worthy of his rank. He pricked his ears as they approached another group of travelers, but the horse seemed to be under proper protection and shouldn't cause any trouble. Adair half-smiled at Fox when she peeked at him, and nodded in agreement at Evokar's words. "Can't have been too big, yea."
Just then, a familiar voice shouted down the road at them. "Ales?" He murmured. With a look at Evokar and Fox, he took a step closer, passing by the mare to try and get a look at - apparently - his little brother. "Ales!" He called, hoping his voice would do a better job at catching his attention. Evokar then took over the situation, as Lad expected him to, so Adair busied himself with scanning the landscape around them. A bunch of horses stuck before a broken bridge would make them an easy target in such a road.
He peeked at his brother from the corner of his eye though. Despite Ales being often out in scouting missions, Adair had never actually crossed paths with him 'till now. It was a bit jarring to be honest. He still acted like a more carefree horse at home, and Adair more than once wondered what he was like in the field. Apparently a bit more responsible... Ok. Yea. He still had a hard time adjusting to the idea.

come little children, ill take thee away The day had been a most ideal one for a stroll through the woods. The sun hung low creating a wonderful color upon the sky that Caoimha always found beautiful. The bright orange and reds reminding her of a certain someone. A cool breeze caressed the mare’s back, sending a pleasant shiver down her spine. She smiled to herself in response. Suddenly, her long ears perked at the sound of voices. Quite a few of them actually. Wondering what the commotion was all about, the Caenna followed the noise to find the large group mulling over the damaged bridge.
Her emerald gaze took note of the band, specifically Fox, Evokar, and Evaris. The others were but mere pebbles. A faint grin crawled upon her maw at reeling thoughts that turned to a worrisome frown as she got closer to the other equines. Caoimha’s head lowered, not like she needed to, she was already short in stature, as she pulled up from the rear of the group. She eyed the shield, letting a small cough rumble in her throat to announce her presence. “Excuse me,” Her voice was quiet but assured. “What’s going on?” A rhetorical question, as she knew full well what was the situation was, but she asked anyway.

Gwen | Farmer
Gwen felt her heart thumb a little faster with each step she took. The shy mare approached the group of gathered horses slowly, while her eyes searched for a familiar face. But she recognized no one. Not surprising, seeing how most of her days where spent helping her father and brothers on the farmland. They didn’t have a lot of guests and her treasured visits to Skeldr Town were sparse and often short. She didn’t meet a lot of horses and even when she did, her shy nature often got in her way.
Gwen swallowed hard as the familiar knot tightened in her chest. She stopped and soundlessly reprimanded herself. It was time to try her brother’s advice. ‘Just focus on one horse at a time. Pick someone, say hello and explain that you’re deaf to avoid confusion. After that it will get easier.’ She slowly shook her head as she imagined Aeron’s voice.
The white mare took a deep breath and continued on. She’d spotted a chestnut coloured horse who’s body language suggested she held some kind of authority. ‘I can do this.’ Gwen started to chant to herself as she approached the mare. The young farmer glanced at the two unicorn stallions that seemed to accompany the chestnut mare and dipped her head low in a greeting, ignoring her now racing heart.
“G… Good afternoon, I hope I’m not interrupting. My name is Gwen, daughter of Gerallt.” She hesitated. Her throat was dry. Was she sounding alright? Could they hear her over the rush of the river? “I’m deaf but I read lips.” Gwen quickly blurted, feeling her cheeks heat up in embarrassment. She forced herself to speak clear and slow as she pushed on. “Could you please tell me what’s going on with the bridge?” Gwen asked, her head nudging the direction for some extra emphasis. Now she wanted to look down at her hooves, but she couldn’t. She had to watch for a response.

Ales|War Forged|Scout
Ales basically bounced over to the group once he realized who some of the horses were. Some of these horses he had never seen before, though Fox and Evokar were common places in Skedlr Town. The younger colt hadn't seen Lad in the past few weeks, as Dad had taken Ales to Warwick to visit Grandpa, and train more with his blessings, because one could never train enough or something that Grandpa said every five minutes. Either way, seeing Lad again was exciting, and Ales bounded up to his cousin/adoptive brother, almost missing the questions that the others had spoken.
"Uh well it's collapsed, so passing though that route is impossible especially at night, but it doesn't seem like anyone was harmed. It was basically deserted." Ales said, adjusting one of the straps on his armor. "Which I still call strange, considering Dad and I crossed over this bridge a couple of days ago, and it was perfectly fine. I don't remember any storms recently either to cause it to collapse."
Ales glanced around at the group that had crowded around him at this point, taking a quick count of those gathered. "With this many horses, we could probably travel a little later into the night without anyone bothering us. Aly and Dad said that Cultists normally attack smaller groups that can't defend themselves as well."

Evokar of the Stone CircleYou know that he will give them everything until there is nothing left of him Suddenly it seemed like everyone was gather, something Evokar was a bit thankful for and no one seemed to be too worried, so it meant someone was not hurt, or the bridge had not tumbled on someone. Eyes glanced to the mare Gwen as she approached, she was deaf. He listened carefully as she spoke and nodded all the more. Reminding himself not to speak to quickly.
"Good to meet you Gwen. Im Evokar." He offered her a bright smile all the more, though it faulted a bit at the next question. "Well it seems the bridge is down currently, we are unable to pass over." he spoke gently. "But it seems like we'll take the long route around."
Eyes looked to Caoimha as she too had wondered what had happened and hope that was enough to help. While he'd like to go explore and see what the damage was. At least make a report, but perhaps with such a day as it was. It's best to get moving along.
Ales spoke and Evokar found himself nodding along. "Yes I agree, I think its best we travel together. We are stronger together." he remarked with an encouraging smile. While Evokar talked little of his own blessings, he knew at least if they tumbled with the Cult he could buy others some time with his own blessing. Evokar was and always for the others in the herd.

Ales seemed adamant, and Fox decided to relinquish her suspicion of the situation. He was the first one to say the word Cultist- undoubtedly what they were all hesitant about.
Two equines Fox didn't recognize- a green-horned unicorn & white pony mare- came up behind the group. The unicorn didn't introduce herself, but the pony mare did as Gwen, a deaf farmer. Fox sidled up to the unicorn.
"The bridge is out. We need to reroute. You're welcome to follow us, if you'd like."
She turned to Evokar, who had been listening to the pony mare. "I guess we should get moving. Time spent idling is time wasted." She glanced over the unicorn's back at the woods, now a dark hollow in the landscape. Suddenly feeling very vulnerable, she half expected some thieves or vagrants to pop out of the dense flora.
"Adair!" she called. "Evokar & I are heading to the other bridge. Anyone can join us, if they want." She said the last part more to the group as a whole. Without someone to take the first step, the menagerie could ramble on about their options for days.
It occurred to her she hadn't actually asked Evokar if he was going to follow, but he mentioned something about traveling together and Fox took that to mean he was set to get out of here. After all, there wasn't much else of a choice. And she was eager to get moving.
Fox began to stride along the riverside's long grasses, glowing orange in the sunset. Her shadow was growing longer. The daylight was dimming. A pair of crows cawed as they tumbled across the sky, notes echoing along the ground & trees.
She turned her head to see who decided to follow.

Adair / Shield
Although the stallion was more worried about what they couldn't see rather than what was going on - as well as keeping an eye on the bound horse regardless of her entourage - Adair was still more or less aware of what was going on between the horses he was escorting. So, he listened as an older horse joined them, Ales' explanation, Gwen's introduction and Evokar and Fox's agreement on what to to. His head turned sharply at the sound of his name, and Adair nodded. Rerouting wasn't his favorite idea, especially with so few horses experienced in fighting around, but staying stuck in the middle of a road as night approached wasn't the best plan either. Ales' words had Adair pinning his ears to his head. Being in the move would probably make being spotted by Bloody Flanks or Cultists harder... Assuming they didn't just walk into one of those groups.
"Sure!" He called to Fox, and padded quickly to Ales' side, stomping at the ground in greeting. "Hey," He murmured, looking between his brother and the other scout. Cassandra? Ales had mentioned her a couple times. "I'm not comfortable being off the road with this many horses and just one Raider, assuming that guy and the prisioner are coming too. Will you two be joining us, then? Maybe we can leave a warning of some sort for any other horse coming this way."
Feeling the need to return to the horses he had been charged with protecting, Adair shot Ales a look that made it clear it was his decision, and shrugged as a goodbye before taking his place by Evokar and Fox again, nodding at them. His eyes strayed to the mare, Gwen. He smiled softly at her. "Hi there," He called, trusting she'd be able to understand him as she said she would. "I'm Adair. Don't worry about the reroute, I'm here for their protection," he explained, motioning to Evokar and Fox with a flick of his head, "and I can watch out for you as well. If we stay together the chances of trouble will be smaller." Adair then turned to the older horse that had joined them: "Would you like to join us as well?"

..:E V A R I S:.. As she walked along the path, lead by the ruthless raider, she took notice to the bulk of strangers filling up the path. With her head bowed, hair brushed over her brow as she looked over. There were so many normal citizens traveling through, minding their own lives. Approaching the bridge, the raider before he came to a halt, which seemed odd to her. From her moping she moved her head up to look amongst the crowd, her ears perking up in curiosity, seeing two others telling that something was wrong with the bridge. Whatever it was, she didn't care. This meant apparently going through cultist territory, which fully caught her attention. She felt both hope and terror at the same time, conflicting her thoughts with her emotions. However, she didn't show anything on her face. Instead, she glanced back to her captor, before lowering her head back down. He, in turn, kept a tight grip on the rope that wrapped around her wings and barrel.
Surrounding her was regular chatter, with one group behind her talking about something odd. They referred to a her, whispering about the happenings surrounding the subject. It didn't take long for her to realize that they were talking about her, putting her in more of a sour mood than before. These War-Forged dwellers spoke of her as if she was some easy topic to gossip about, which made her ears press back against her head in annoyance. After their curiosities, the others suggested sticking together as a group, with Evaris and her captor joining them. With no bridge to cross in the first place, she rolled her eyes at the unicorn who had mentioned her and the raider. "No shit, genius." She mumbled under her breath, managing to get a skeptical look from the raider before he yanked on the ropes again to remind her of her place. If he hadn't claimed her weapons and bag she would have thrown a knife at him for that. Instead, all she did was huff in annoyance, as if to remind the raider that she already knew what he was doing and that he didn't need to make it a constant reminder. Every bit of her wanted to leave and be off on her own. She didn't even wish to be in Onea in the first place, with it being the last place she thought she would end up in life, yet here she was. Caught. In Onea.
With her placement and predicament, she learned to be docile until further notice, all while feeling regret in everything she had done. So far it seemed to "work", if you could call being dragged somewhere she didn't know working. At the very least of it she wasn't being treated as poorly as she had been before, so she must've been doing something right for once.

Gwen | Farmer
Gwen was surprised when the stallion with the bright horn answered her instead of the chestnut mare. Evokar had seemed intimidating to Gwen, but she was relieved to discover the unicorn was actually very gentle. His words did little to calm the white mare though. No bridge, no passage, a reroute. It would get dark soon, she wouldn’t be home in time. Gwen only absentmindedly mumbled her thanks to Evokar as she worried.
Energetic movement caught her eyes though and Gwen watched a young stallion in some impressive armour. He was walking around, talking about what happened, before he was approached by the bay paint shield. Gwen couldn’t quite follow everything. She kept her eyes open to catch as many information as she could, even though the sun was setting relentlessly.
The chestnut mare with the feathers in her hair seemed to take the lead, clearly indicating she was ready to move. To find another way to cross the river. Gwen was eager to follow suit, finding comfort in the safety of numbers. She took a few steps across the road and then felt the tickle of the high grass brushing against her legs. The smell of damp earth wafting up to her nose.
The shield returned to his place by Evokar with a nod and Gwen started to guess that the gentle stallion was actually someone important. She felt her face heat up suddenly at the thought, had she just been mumbling to a high ranking stallion!? The horrible thought was interrupted when her observant eyes caught the body language of the shield as he turned his attention to her. The white mare looked up just in time to see Adair smile down at her as he introduced himself.
"and I can watch out for you as well. If we stay together the chances of trouble will be smaller."
Gwen nodded vigorously in agreement. She wanted to thank Adair for his protection and introduce herself as well, but the words didn’t come quick enough and then the dutiful shield had turned to address another horse.
Gwen glared at the ground in front of her and swallowed hard as she reprimanded herself. ‘Come on, you can do this. Maybe he’ll talk to you some more. He seems to know Evokar and the chestnut mare. Ask him what their ranks are and then-‘ Her thoughts tumbled as she thought of the possibilities, mentally mapping out a possible conversation.

come little children, ill take thee away The mare’s large ears perked attentively as Fox replied to her. A newly appointed ambassador to a land that was of no concern to the Forged. The caenna made an effort to keep tabs on all political officials, especially being the tutor for the children of Circle member, Wolfe. Nevertheless, Caoimha thought her foolish, when there were more important things to handle here at home during such a time. However, on the same hoof, she admired her guts for the unconventional. A small smile stretched across the unicorn’s maw as she nodded in response. “I would greatly appreciate that, thank you. Wouldn’t want to get caught out in these woods alone.” She chuckled quietly. Her eyes veered off, passing over Evokar one more time and landing on the nervous grey mare. The mare’s demeanor reminded her of a few children she’s adored in her past years of teaching. Approaching her cautiously, Caoimha gave her a gentle bump on the shoulder and a soft smile suggesting that she was welcome to travel alongside her.
The caenna turned from the other mare to follow close behind Fox and Evokar. A ragtag bunch of equines they were but she took note of the rest of them individually. The prisoner was broken, yet feisty, admirable. The scouts? Young but seasoned, still room to grow. And lastly, Adair...someone to keep a close eye on.

Ales|War Forged|Scout
Ales nodded as Lad suggested that the two scouts come along. "I don't think there should be an issue with that. There's barely been any traffic on this route all day, and we needed to get back anyways, right Cass?" Ales happily stated, looking over to the other scout. "Besides Dad's been teaching me fighting moves, and Grandpa taught me how to use my blessings in battle. You know how Grandpa is about how 'Argus' blessings can be used for more than crowds. You can use them to take an opponent by surprise, on both the battlefield and the council'." Ales walked over to the Shield and adoptive brother, his voice dropping down an octave and adopting a gravely undertone as a gross exaggeration of his grandfather's.
Ales paused for a second before turning to the Golden Eagle on his back that had fallen asleep. "Hey Jaggy," He said, poking the bird of prey to wake it up. "Fly ahead and keep an eye on the path. Let us know if you see anything." The bird gave a glare then a noise of acknowledgement before taking to the sky, traveling ahead of the small group.

Adair || Shield
Adair looked back at the prisoner. Had she said something? He had been too far to understand. Adair shot her a hard look, but then turned to Ales and grinned. "My thanks." He called to him teasingly. The stallion trotted quickly for a second in order to catch up with Gwen and his two charges. His brother joined him, and Adair listed with fond amusement as he explained all about his and Edmond's trip to see Grandfather. His mind wasn't entirely in the conversation though. With about seven horses under his protection - and a closed off-looking Raider he had never seen before during his travels with Uncle Muiris - Adair couldn't afford to let his guard down.
"He has a point, though." Adair mentioned to Ales with a small smirk. If they were at home, he would have been laughing at his antics, but the unicorn couldn't bring himself to relax that much. Grandfather was right though... At least from a theoretical point of view. Religious beliefs were a... Complicated topic for the young Shield. Despite coming from a devout Kaia couple, Adair somehow was blessed before his birth by Ignacio. He had always been confused and questioning of (both) his family's gods, and was never quite sure of what to say when honoring Kaia or Argus.
As the scout turned to speak to his familiar, Adair allowed the small part of his attention that wasn't looking out for potential danger to focus on Gwen, who he had been walking besides the whole time. She had seemed rather skittish and perhaps standing close to her would bring a measure of comfort. "This is my brother, Ales." He explained to her, then shot said brother a teasing grin. "He talks a lot, but don't mind him much. What brought you to this road?" He didn't add the alone part, but it wasn't safe for anyone, much less a mare, to travel on their own. If Bloody Flanks and Cultists alike could cause a whole lot of trouble for a big group like theirs, it'd be so much worse for a lone traveler.
As he waited for her responses, Adair's eyes scanned the woods more than once, and he pricked his ears at Fox and Evokar in case they called out to him. He had been tasked to protect them, but their group had gotten significantly bigger now. Was he neglecting his duties somehow?

Evokar of the Stone CircleYou know that he will give them everything until there is nothing left of him A simple nod was given to Fox thankful she was quick to speak the names of others to round them all up. It was best to get going, not that Evokar wouldn't mind talking to others, he just did not want to be traveling at night. Gods knows what things lurk within the shadows. Evokar glanced around as the group finally decided to make headway. Thank goodness he thought as he walked with the others.
He listened to others talk and introduce them all, and couldn't help but chuckle at the introduction of one that was always quite chatty. "I wouldn't mind a good conversation, I welcome it honestly." he smiled. Hoping one would not feel as if they would need to be silenced or burned if they spoke out. Evokar in his line of work yearned to connect with others, to understand them, get to know them and be able to help them should ever the time arise. While he himself was more a softer stallion, more in for listening, he still enjoyed the light talk and tried his best to get out of his shell of being on the sidelines and move forwards into the lights.
"As for why we were out here, we were getting things settled in the Guild Hall. Easy work for some." he remarked smiling knowingly at Fox. Evokar had no doubt she would make an excellent Ambassador. She was likable, quick with wit, and a wildness that could never be tamed. He enjoyed all the bits and pieces that made Fox, who they were.

The fading light is almost gone, only a hazy glow on the horizon still fighting feebly against the encroaching tide of darkness. Your group has dithered and dragged their hooves, but in the end practicality won out and you made the journey to the farther, in-tact bridge. The river thunders beneath it, cold and dark, swollen with snow-melt and dangerously swift, but still cross-able via the bridge. So, cross it you do, in small bunches, eyes flickering cautiously from raging waters to the far bank and back again.
Though too dark to see, a small plume of disturbed snow floats distantly from Skeldr, and then another, and another. Perhaps those blessed with and sensitive to the earth might have been the first to notice something... off. Almost imperceptibly, the long bridge shivered uneasily, and the raging waters abruptly slowed, their roar diminishing.
There was a long, tense moment of quiet, intruded upon by a distant, garbled and somehow immense sound. And it was growing louder, the bridge resonating beneath your hooves in eerie time to a distant disturbance. A disturbance that was rapidly becoming less distant, and much louder: the river, in response to Skeldr's shifting, had hesitated, choked to a trickle. And now it was exploding forward once more, its roar ratcheting up several notches even as it swelled at a perceptible rate.
And carried in its wake, all the detritus and blockage built up on the banks and mountain slopes from the winter. Including: the boulder and massive tree trunk that slammed suddenly into the bridge with a truly otherworldly sound, and devastating consequences.
The bridge is still holding, but the impact has sent some of your group into the dangerously swift and cold river! The next 4 characters to post fall in! Work together to save your herd-mates... or to use the unexpected opportunity to escape from captors, whatever suits you.

Gwen | Farmer
Gwen felt the gentle bump against her shoulder and glanced over at a mule with a duo of yellow turquoise horns. Gwen instantly relaxed seeing the mule’s soft smile and inviting eyes. Somehow her presence was calming. Gwen returned the smile, nodding slightly. The young mare felt reassured, her traveling companions for the night seemed to be friendly and capable horses.
On her other side Adair remained, which was also a great comfort. The well-muscled and tall stallion was keeping a constant watchful eye on their surroundings. His protection was sure to keep them safe. Gwen started to let herself relax. When Adair spoke about his brother a grin appeared on his face which Gwen thought was a nice thing to see. The young mare quickly dipped her head to greet Ales. Her eyes ever observant of any words spoken.
“What brought you to this road?"[/b] Adair asked. A question Gwen hadn’t expected from him. “I… I did some errands for my father, the farmer Gerallt Gastanwydd. I was just on my way home, hoping to make it before dark. My family will be worried otherwise.” The young mare hurried to answer. Her eyes glanced up at the sky, were the light was fading steadily.
When they finally arrived at the next crossing, dusk had fully set in. Although the wide river looked more wild and dangerous here, the bridge was standing strong.
Gwen was eager to get home and quickly made her way onto the stone structure. When she was about halfway a tremor went through the bridge. Alarmed, the white mare paused and looked over at her companions. She couldn’t hear anything but she could feel the bridge tremble strangely beneath her hooves. Maybe it was better to go back the way she came, at least that part of the bridge had held steady.
Gwen turned around, she never saw the rush of the water or the debris that it carried. The stone beneath her jerked so violently and unexpectedly that it threw her off balance and she stumbled, her back legs hitting the low edge of the bridge.
Gwen barely had time to yelp in surprise before she felt herself fall over the edge of the bridge, hitting the freezing water with her back first and going under. The water was ice cold, stabbing into her warm skin and as soon as she pushed her head above the surface she cried out in fear and pain, which resulted in a mouth full of water. Panic surged through her veins as she felt the current pull her away from the bridge fast. ‘Kaia!’

Like so many other instances in her life, she felt it before she saw it.
Still wasn't enough time.
She only had half a second to peer into the darkness at the imperceptible shift in the earth before she was struck by a slab of board that sent her toppling off the bridge like she was a feather being cast aside.
Water hit her like a knife, its coldness sucking all the air from her lungs. It shocked her skin like electricity. The river roared, tumbling her into its froth. She had no sense of what was up or down or where she was in space.
Her belly and legs scraped against rocks on the riverbed- wounds that had just healed were ripped open again and the pain made her head scream.
Finally she burst her head through the surface, spitting out water. The pull of the river was far too strong for her to fight- she was being carried like she was nothing.
She slammed into a dead tree hovering over the water and pressed against it, praying it would hold. Water angrily rushed around her.
It was too dark to see how far she had traveled. It couldn't have been far, right? Everything happened so fast. But none of her groupmates were near.
Suddenly something white was approaching over the water. A ghost? More white rapids?
"Gwen!"
Thank Kaia the little mare was white, otherwise Fox wouldn't have seen her. But the tree Fox was clinging to shielded most of the view downstream, and just as quickly, the mare was out of Fox's line of sight.
"Evokar!" she screamed, trying to raise her voice above the roaring din of the river. Had everyone fallen? Was anyone dead? Was Evokar dead?
She hated how much preference he suddenly sprouted in her mind, but she had to know. She had to find him. He wouldn't let her drown.
"Evokar! Adair! Ales!" She started screaming all the names she knew. The effort of pressing against the dead tree was starting to wear on her, and she knew time was ticking before she'd be sucked down.

Evaris
The trek continued on monotonously up to the bridge, though something happened that made her look around her. A rumble in the area, and as she was being moved towards the bridge, she felt that something was wrong. She hesitated walking onto the bridge, pressing her hooves into the dirt. It was too quiet, which worried her. The raider ahead of her moved to get on the bridge, yanking on the rope. She allowed the strain, but refused to get on the bridge.
One last yank, and in a moment she heard the rush of the stream. Fast on her feet, she took the chance given to her. As soon as the raider turned around to face the flood barreling towards him and the others on the bridge, she lurched forward. In a moment she yanked her bag off his back, as well as pulling her weapons away from him. She moved away from the bridge, though the sash withholding her throwing knives and cutlass snagged on the raider, just as the river flooded over. She could feel the rush of the river pull him down and her forward. With her hooves she pulled backwards, using as much of her strength as she could. Her teke grasped tightly onto the sash, which slipped off the raider when the current shoved him down. In the midst, she got pulled very close to the edge, almost slipping in.
Then, the rope was let go of. She looked around and figured the others to be distracted by the tragedy. Her eyes traced down to the rope, the one that had been pulling her toward an unknown future. Without a second thought she stepped away from the group and undid the rope, spreading her wings out wide. She looked over the happenings before her, over the horror they were experiencing. However, this wasn’t her fight. She didn’t even know these horses, let alone care for them. Surely they would be able to care after each other, but they wouldn’t need her there to help them. In the end it wouldn’t matter, after all. If it meant she was escaping, then the ends justifies the means.
Without another thought she trotted away from the group, meanwhile putting her bag and weapon stash back on and around herself. Her wings beat up and down as she started into a canter, going until she finally lifted off. She flew as as fast as she could out of there, not allowing herself to glance back so much as once. This was the freedom that Alya was giving her, and she didn’t want to lose her chance of escaping. || WC: 440
TLDR; -raider walks up on the bridge, she refuses to -he gets swept away, she almost does but is quick on her feet -she gets her stuff and flies away

Adair || Shield
Adair nodded. "Well, let's get you there safely then."
He would have liked to keep talking, since Gwen was nice and gentle, and making sure she was safe didn't feel like it was pressuring him, unlike with Fox or Evokar (though Adair would later admit the moments he did forget his anxiety about doing a good enough job were enough to hope he would run into those two one day at an informal setting). Alas, now wasn't the time for distractions, and anyway, it wad getting darker and Adair assumed it'd make it harder for Gwen to read his lips.
Their walk continued, silent and monotone - thankfully, in Adair's opinion. He refused to settle down though, and perhaps this was what allowed him to move quickly. There was a rumble and cracking sound, and maybe what Adair thought was Jaggy's cry- but there was no time because the ground of the bridge they were intending to cross was giving way, and the prisoner was escaping, and where were Ales and Gwe-
"Hey!" He yelled after the prisoner took flight, going as far as to shoot a beam of fire from his eyes to warn her- despite having been born blessed with Heat Vision, Adair's fear of what it might mean often kept him from practicing and even if it hit her, it wouldn't do more than burn a rather painful mark on her side, nothing else. He was fairly sure he missed though, but there was no more time to spend on the pegasus.
"Gwen!" The panicked cry came from Fox, who- oh, Kaia, Fox was in the river-
Keeping his panicky emotions at bay, Adair grabbed the rope discarded by the prisoner and removed his harness and his items. He intended to jump after her, but the stone beneath him was treacherous, and with a loud splash, he fell in the swirling current.
Adair's breath came out ragged as his head broke through the surface of the water. Struggling against the current, he swam sideways until he reached the ambassador. "Hold on!" He called, spitting out water. The tree trunk she had held onto creaked ominously as he hit it, but held on. He wrestled his teke against the water and managed to tie a knot over Fox's torso. "Don't worry, you'll be fine." He encouraged, keeping his voice as calm as possible. "Try to stay calm, it'll make things easier!"
As he spoke, Adair groped blindly with his teke in the dark, praying that Kaia would bless him with something to tie Fox to. It appeared the goddess was in his favor, since a relatively large pine tree stood not far from the shore. He thanked his birth father for forcing him to learn all those knots for traveling at sea, even if it was something Adair never really wanted to do.
Making sure the knot was tied correctly, he tugged on it once to make sure it was safe and turned to Fox again, looking at her in the eye and trying to exude as much confidence and calm as he could while struggling to remain afloat in a strong river current. "I have to find Gwen! Hold on and try not to move a lot, Evokar Ales and Cassandra will come to get you!"
Praying to every god there might be that she'd be rescued safely, Adair left Fox there. He was afraid. His duty was to make sure Fox and Evokar were safe, and he technically should have stayed with her, but- but Gwen was a member of the herd too! He had promised her he'd get her home safely! He couldn't leave her behind!
Adair searched madly for the mare and the Raider, as he gasped for air. "Gwen!" He called. "Gwen!" His brain then caught up to him: She's deaf, you idiot, she wont hear you!
It didn't stop him from looking though, and he did eventually spot the mare floating not far from him. How far down the river were they?! Adair wasted no time in swimming towards her, and dove deep enough below her to support Gwen's head out of the water. "It's gonna be okay," he grunted as the current tried to push his head under, knowing she wouldn't listen but needing to say it anyway. "I will get you out of this, I promise." In a flash of inspiration, he lighted his eyes up the way he used to as a foal, two small but bright embers shining in the dark.
"ALES! EVOKAR! CASSANDRA!"

*** TL;DR: • Adair shoots a laser beam at Evaris. He doesn't think it hit her but it probably wouldn't stop her from escaping. • He grabs the rope left by her and tries to jump in the river but slides in instead • Manages to stay afloat, get to Fox and wraps the rope around her/a tree in he shore of the river • Goes after Gwen and holds her so she wont drown (is likely super tired and will begin to loose strength quickly in the next post) • Activated his Heat Vision again! No laser beams, his eyes are just sparkling bright enough that one might be able to see it.

Evokar of the Stone CircleYou know that he will give them everything until there is nothing left of him Evokar had somehow felt this once before in some shape of form, his body acting on its own accord, before his mind could even catch up to speak, he was able to jump to the side nearly saving himself as the white waves crashed into the bridge taking everyone in it. Body tumbled as his hooves hit solid ground and suddenly there was screaming and someone was running and everything was utter chaos.
Fox screamed his name and his heart began to race, where was she? Gods where was was she?! Getting up to his hooves he spotted her, seeing Adair get to her and bring her to shore, he prayed thanks someone was there to help, but surely there was others. Still he wasted not time as he ran to Fox's side. "Are you alright?" he breathed out sharply, looking over her body, trying to see if anything was wrong. He was no grand healer, but he could do a few things. He watched as Adair found another, and Evokar was regretting to be ripped from Fox's side. "I'll be back, I have to help the others."
Adair was shouting his name and Evokar brushed his face alongside Fox, before getitng up and bolting towards where Adair and Gwen was. Nostrils flared, as all his focus when into the ground itself. Roots shot out from the ground towards the pair. The root seemed to weave together into a net scooping the pair and pulling them towards the shore. Eyes seemed to roll back into his head as the more he focused on his gift, the more it seemed to drain him as it had before. Soon he had the pair nestled towards the shore making it easy for them to get up out of the river.
Knees shook a bit, as blood dripped from his nose, his mind bouncing here and there as he tried to focus. Head turned as he spotted a figure dashing off, and a reminder of a day he let others vanish. Perhaps a decision ill made. Still he stomped his hoof, as roots seem erupt from the ground trying to ensnare Evaris. He remained focused on the roots in both places feeling its drain more and more from his body.

Ales|War Forged|Scout
Ales was almost so busy with talking to Lad and the others that he almost missed the fact that they were almost at the new bridge. This trip was going along much better than he expected. There didn't seem to be any danger in sight of either himself or Jaggy, the prisoner that their untalkative raider friend brought along was being cooperative, and even Cass had stopped sighing uncontrollably. A win win for everyone all around in Ales' book. In fact everything was going so well that he never felt the earth shake, nor hear the bridge collapse until it was too late and Fox and the farmer was swept away into the river. Lad, thinking faster than Ales could never even hope to, was already in with them, had Fox secure on the raging river's edge, and was already going after the farmer deeper into the current. The prisoner was already flying away by the time Ales snapped to his senses, to which Ales let loose a few words that he was sure his father wouldn't be too happy with him saying.
ALes rushed over to Fox's side, and nervously prancing in place at the shore line.He attempted to assist the former scout to her feet, before just staying by her side. He wasn't too sure what he could do, after all he could jump in the river along side Lad, but Ales never really learned how to swim too well, so he didn't want to be an extra head for the group to save.
"The prisoner flew off, Argus damned coward," He stated to Fox, not even realizing what he was saying as he stared wide eyed at the shore line, watching as Evokar utilized a blessing that he had seen time and time again to save his brother, now really wishing he had taken those swimming lessons and hardly noticing as Jaggy circled around both Lad and Gwen, ready to assist wherever possible.

Gwen | Farmer
The water was so cold. Gwen tried desperately to find some footing, fighting the rush of the river with all she had. ’Kaia I don’t want to die!’ The physical and practical task of keeping her head above the water and swimming against the current somehow helped to push back the panic.
The white mare tried to see some way out, something to hold onto, but it was getting too dark to see anything clearly. ’They’ll never find me…’ Gwen knew she had to make some sound to be heard, to be located. Though she might not be able to hear anymore, she remembered what it was like to scream. But, even now, fighting for her life, the embarrassment of what she might sound like came over her. She swallowed it down and with hot cheeks called out as loud as she could.
Gwen coughed and spit back the water that entered her mouth. Her body was aching from the cold and the strain on her muscles as she tried to keep her head above the surface. Suddenly she saw a head, Adair was swimming towards her! Then the head vanished and fear ripped through the young mare, thinking she just saw the shield drown.
When her body made contact with another she let out a short yelp in surprise, but it was Adair, supporting her. Gwen knew it was too early to feel so relieved. It gave her fresh energy to keep fighting, not willing to lean too much on the stallion in fear of drowning him. She was so close to the stallion that she thought she could feel the rumble of his voice. But it must be her imagination for the river was still roaring all around them.
She wanted to look at him. Gwen needed to see his face, his expression, to gather some information on their situation. What she saw when she looked at Adair were eyes that lit up, glowing like the red hot irons in a smithy’s fire. It took her breath away. Gwen snapped out of it when she felt his booming voice as he called out, presumably for help. Right, they were in danger.
A few galloping heartbeats had past when something moved beneath the mare. Her first thought was that it had to be a fish, until she discovered a net of roots was pulling them to the shore. Gwen didn’t hesitate to climb onto the safety of solid ground as soon as they reached it. She looked back to make sure Adair was following and from the corner of her eye saw the golden eagle that circled above them.
Gwen let out a deep sigh and tears sprung to her eyes. Somehow, she was alive. Her skin prickled, the evening air suddenly feeling warm. Gwen felt her legs tremble as she turned to the shield, taking a deep breath. ”You saved me, Adair.” her voice cracked with emotion. ”Thank you.”

OOC No seriously Adair thanks man <3 I really wanted Gwen to react on seeing Evokar using the same blessing she has, but I don’t think she could see him rn so, maybe later!
Tldr - Gwen tries to call for help and not drown - Adair reaches her - Evokar used plant manip and it’s very effective - Gwen and Adair are safely on the shore

come little children, ill take thee away It wasn’t necessarily a quiet journey to the other bridge, the only noise was the rushing river and the soft lull of chatter. Caoimha stayed quiet, listening in on the conversations happening around her. A lot of meaningless reasons why each was out at this time, however, Evokar talking about business with the Guild kept her attention. He didn’t say much before the sound of cracking earth took over everything else. One after the other, the eager to get home were swept away into the white waters after hastly starting to cross the bridge.
Her heart thumped and raced against her chest as she sturdied herself against the earth, letting the shake of the winter debris pass. A moment passed before she came back to her senses, taking in all that had happened. She squared herself up, her wide eyes watched as the prisoner made her escape. Wild green eyes became lidded with a smirk, she made no effort to help the shield to recapture her. There were surely more important things at hoof. Caoimha hoped that the prisoner was more careful with her second chance.
She raised a brow as she reached the lip of land leading to the shore where she observed the panicked sheep trying to help one another. Pathetic really. She sighed, leaping down and putting on her best frantic look. “Is everyone ok?!” Her voice that of a worried mother. “How can I help?!”

Adair reached her first. Fox wasn’t sure if he had fallen in himself or was on a rescue mission, but either way she was thankful.
“I-“ she started to say, but realized her words were being swallowed by the churn of the river. Adair tied a rope around her torso- it rubbed some of her wounds open, though the cold water numbed them instantly- and tossed the other end at a large pine near the riverbed, securing her to the shore.
He yelled something- Fox couldn’t make out his words over the roaring water- and then he let go of her, letting himself fall with the river downstream.
Now anchored, she gritted her teeth and dug her forehooves into the mud sloughing off the shore. One hind foot found a stone, the other leaned against the dead tree trunk, and she hauled herself up onto the bank. Her legs wobbled. The water pulled her back. An arm of teke grabbed the rope and leveraged her body against it. Using every last ounce of strength, she fell forward onto the grass.
And suddenly Evokar was there.
“I’m- fine,” she panted, vision growing blurry. The exhaustion of fighting the current was surprising. She was a skilled swimmer but was accustomed to still lakes and soft streams, not crashing rivers.
"I'll be back, I have to help the others.”
He touched her face with his and then he was gone. Fox watched him disappear into the darkness, feeling helpless and alone. Gwen was down there somewhere, and Fox was too weakened to even stand, much less help them.
Ales was the next to find her. He didn’t say much but looked jittery and worried. Fox vaguely remembered he and Adair were related somehow… right?
“He’ll be fine,” she said to the young scout. She assumed he was worried about the Shield voluntarily jumping into the deathtrap, but Ales mentioned the prisoner escaping.
Fox didn’t reply to that. She suddenly became aware of how cold she was; even escaping from the river left her shivering. Her jaw seemed to lock itself together. She could still barely feel her feet. The ground felt cold against her body & the water dripping from her body didn't help.
“Ales, do you have a uh… blanket or anything?”
