Adair | Shield
Strong. The current was far too strong.
Adair's limbs burned as he fought against the force of the water, internally cursing whatever was the reason that had Ignacio blessing him in the first place. Had he caught Kaia's attention instead, he might have a blessing more useful than one that simply set things on fire or had his eyes sparkle for no reason.
Just as Adair couldn't take it any longer, the ground seemed to move around him, as what appeared to be roots curled around him and Gwen and pulled them towards the shore. Evokar! He had heard them after all! Adair squinted against the dark and thought he could make the shape of Fox and Ales farther up the river. She was safe! And Ales hadn't fallen in. He couldn't quite see Cassiopeia though. Or the Raider. Turning his gaze to the river, all Adair could see were the swirls of the current, dark and unforgiving.
Adair was still pressed flank-to-flank to Gwen when the mare padded forward, looking back to see if he was following her. Ice-cold water still lapped at his legs, the stallion noticed. He couldn't even feel the cold though: his limbs were completely numb. He forced himself to join her, step by step, but his body refused to stop trembling. Cursed blessing, if it had to be one of the fiery kirin god, why couldn't it be something like fire manipulation? That way he would be able to warm himself. As it was, Adair didn't dare use his heat vision with so many horses so close to him, even though the only thought in his head was fire to keep him warm.
He had get out of the river, though! The cold was sapping his strength. Adair managed a few steps that got him completely out of the water, dimly aware that Gwen was talking to him and that the old caenna who was with them padded frantically around them, her voice panicky. Adair wanted to tell Gwen that of course he did save her, hadn't he promised? He wanted to reassure the old mare they would be alright, but then his legs failed him and he fell, bruising his front knees. The Shield struggled to get up, but his body simply did not cooperate. He curled up on the ground, unable to stop the trembling of his body, and tried to ask for them to get something to warm him up- beg, if needed, just, something, anything, even just some damp branches that he could light up with his blessing, but all that came out of his mouth was the sound of his shattering teeth.
He was just so cold.
