It was due to the trauma of the night they shared that kept the vagabonds together. Now, not all of them stayed, but of the original three they held a bond now. One, not particularly strong, but one that thrived. Rynn snorted, watching the others as they traveled well-worn paths out of Skeldr Town. The pony-mare looked behind her, long locks swishing with the movement. Of the newcomers in the group –a bard, and two mercenaries– it was the bard that entranced Rynn. With long feathered wings and a gorgeous coat, Persephone was the epitome of everything Rynn wished she could be. Truly, a child of the gods. And after the pony's previous meeting with another pegasus, Little Bird, she had learned she must contain herself in order to serve the other rightfully. The two mercenaries, less so, making Rynn nervous, but only because of their careers. The two seemed well enough fitting to Rynn's normal company, the mare being flirty and the stallion alert. And of course, the two original mares. Seeker and Shiann. Both still as uneasy as Rynn as they entered the forest again. The three had pooled together their coins in order to buy the two mercenaries mentioned forehand; simply for the fact that none felt safe traveling alone, especially with the warning of Cultists still being in the area. In the months that passed from the Bloodletting, it only raised Rynn's concerns that Cultists could be out looking for more to sate their hunger before the next "ceremony." Now as they traveled, Rynn walked ahead to fall in line with Dante, "Evening, mercenary, do you know if this path is particularly safe of predators... Cultists included?" The mare involuntarily shuddered with the idea of the bloodlusting equine before turning her eyes back to the small path leading to a village in the Farmlands. She raised her voice again addressing the group before she could get answer from Dante, "Girls, remember to stay on the path. If you see anything, let everyone else know. Anything as small as a lot of birds taking flight off in the distance. We don't want another... altercation with any...thing." ---------------- Rynn - Bard Post #1 - 362 Words

In the months since the Night of Bloodletting, these normally independant vagabonds have remained travelling as a group. Upon hearing news of cultists remaining in the area, they pooled their coin to hire two mercenaries as protection. Hopefully their new guardians will be unneeded.

Dante ~ Vagabond ~ MercenaryDante marched along at the head of the group. He knew these mares needed him to keep a watchful eyes and he wanted to give them their monies worth. Truly, it was pity that led him to help them out. But, he held his tongue on that matter. No need to lose the job by voicing how pathetic he thought they were. Dante scanned every inch of the area as they walked. He wasn't fully aware of where they were all headed, but he didn't mind. It was a nice night to go on a walk.
He glanced down at the approaching mare who questioned him. Her name was Rynn if he recalled correctly. The stallion smiled, not in a reassuring manner, but an almost devious one. "One can never really be safe on any path, ma'am." He dipped his head to her, a smirk still crossed his face. "But, we'll make short work of any who dare cross ours. You especially needn't worry about cultists. They're just crazy, now it's bears you wanna be on the lookout for."
He didn't really care if he scared them, but he didn't mind a good chuckle either. It wasn't like Dante was lying either. He had a particular skill set and he assumed the other mercenary did too. This job wouldn't be a problem in the slightest. Dante's ears flicked at every noise, but it wouldn't be a problem. That's what he kept telling himself.

Jinxx | Vagabond | Mercenary
Jinxx walked a few feet behind the other horses, her eyes scanning the area around them in careful watch for any suspicious activities. She had been hired alongside another mercenary to keep watch of three mares. While usually she might have been less then pleased to be in the company of so many others, she was thankful for this job. The world was no longer safe for Vagabonds. She was strong but she knew that the odds were against horses like them and they would need to stick together.
She perked her ears and listened as the other mercenary, she believed his name was Dante, talked to the mare she believed to be named Rynn. She had never been very good at remembering names.
"He is right." She said in a flat tone, not looking at either them and instead focusing on the road behind them. "You dont need to worry. I am very good at what I do." She assured them, but was also assuring herself. It wasn't often she feared for herself but after seeing what slaves had dealt with in Aodh, she couldn't help but be afraid. Her friend Illidis was a slave there and she couldn't understand how he lived the way he did. And when she looked for his mother, she was shot with an arrow and had earned a nasty scar on her shoulder which was now covered by a tattoo. She didn't want to return to that dreadful place after that.

Persephone | Vagabond | Bard
Persephone lightly stepped alongside the other mares, a dreamy, almost vacant smile on her face as they walked. The tense, nervous atmosphere seemed to not phase her as they traveled together, and her ears perked only slightly as her companions spoke. Her eyes scanned the area they were traveling, as she hadn't come this far north in a rather long time. Persephone was more a traveler of the Sedo area, but with the Serorans unwillingly gathering up vagabonds, she figured she would spread her hoovesteps to include the northern territories. It was upon her new travels that she met the group, and after they introduced themselves and talked for awhile, it was decided that she would stay with them, if only for a little while. Strength in numbers these days with the cultists hanging around.
As they walked, she noticed that one of the mares kept sneaking glances at her, but didn't seem to want to do anything more than that. Seph figured that she would come speak to her when she was ready, but she was hardly sure as to why the mare seemed too shy to come talk to her.
The mare watched as Rynn stepped up beside one of the mercenaries- Dante- and started speaking with him. When he replied, she winced slightly. Bears were no problem. Bears were just cranky when horses intruded on their territory, or got too close to their cubs.
"If you'll pardon my intrusion to your conversation, bears really aren't that vicious. I've met a couple that were actually really quite sweet. I'm a familiar whisperer, you see." her voice was light and tinkling, and nearly as dream-like as her expression, but her words held conviction. She wasn't about to let an animal be hurt just because others couldn't understand what they were saying.

Seeker | Wanderer She was free in her wildness. She was a wanderess, a drop of free water. She belonged to no man and to no city” ― Roman Payne, The Wanderess
"Girls, remember to stay on the path. If you see anything, let everyone else know. Anything as small as a lot of birds taking flight off in the distance. We don't want another... altercation with any...thing."
Seeker gave a curt nod to Rynn, she had begun to look up to the mare in their time they stayed together. It was highly unlike the wandering female to stay too long but that night in the forest had chilled her to her marrow at the thought of going out again. Yet slow, but surely, the itch to move had leaked its way into her. Seeker was almost giddy to be moving again, no longer being pent up, yet still a chill made her flanks quiver and thanked the skies that she had their little group. Out of all of them Seeker had felt warmest to Shiann after their night. Being ruthlessly selfless she had focused on getting the injured mare through that night and at the cost of not one, but two lives they were those who remained.
Shaking her mane out to rid herself of those thoughts she glanced to Shiann and then back to Rynn who was voicing concerns of predators. Cultists, Seeker thought and the tone her mind relayed would have others knowing it was a curse word to the once slave. Her mind was brought back yet again when bears were brought up. Rolling her eyes playfully at the attempted scare, she gave a nod as the other bard who spoke up about them being rather kindly. What interested her most was the Bard's talent.
"Familiars!" Came the crisp, bell like voice from Seeker. If one thing could be remembered about the rather plain brown mare, it was her voice or her hair. Her voice was sharp but sweet with a hard tone that seemed to stay in the mind. To say the least it portrayed little emotion which had others often thinking she was cold. This time however there was a childish twinge to it as she chirped her excitement. Seeker wanted a familiar badly but had never spent enough time in one place to really pick on. Blushing at her sudden burst she tried to feign coolness.
"Sorry" She apologized to the group. She had wanted to be quiet until they were safely away from the areas Cultists roamed and she had already barked her feelings so suddenly. Looking back to Persephone she smiled. "I agree, many a night I have shared near an old bear. So long as they're without cub or have no reason to feel anger towards you they're really fine" Seeker was a traveler, it was what their kind were to begin with. Seeker took it to another level and her time on the road left her in plenty a situation with wildlife often assumed to be evil-kin. Taking another of soon to be many looks around she tried to keep her emotions in check.

R Y N N ❦
The chimeric mare glanced over at Jinxx as the mare spoke flatly, addressing Dante's words and her own. She swallowed a small lump in her throat before glancing behind, making sure that both the grey mare Shiann and the plain mare Seeker, and then to the ever stunning and feathered Persephone as the mare walked closer to them. She spoke of bears being no danger, and as many times as Rynn had traveled to Onea, she had not ever faced one of the lumbering beasts. And in her time in Sedo, she had never come to face with a bear. They were like legends to her, but she could remember the stories of other bards. The glowing hearts of the Ursa Majors and Minors. Up in Onea they were polar bears or grizzlies, fit to the climate. As the mares finished their little talk of the omnivores, Rynn spoke up, her voice like honey despite the fear lacing it.
"I think you grossly underestimate the Cultists," Rynn shivered at their name, "They show no mercy. Tear apart even mothers with foal. Chase you until your heart threatens to stop beating." She addressed Dante's words and Jinxx's agreement from earlier. That Cultists were nothing; merely crazy. Rynn knew them as predators, and she had spent times twice as prey. Once where she had to watch the Bloodletting, and once where she shivered under an embankment, avoiding everything to do with the chase.
They rounded another turn and Rynn felt her hooves slip from under her. She quickly righted herself, but her already tingling senses seemed fried, her nerves truly getting to her. As much as she was trying to put on the face of calm, it would remain a facade. The mare truly having been affected by the event months before. She lowered her head, trudging along, wickedly sharp horn pointed in front of her as her own weapon against the harsh Onea forest.
Softly the mare began to pray to Alya, words spilling from her mouth with hardly any force behind them. Nearly silent, but all the same prayers for her Lord to hear. By the gods, may Alya keep them all safe this time. She wanted not another night to tell in the stories to come, a night of pain. And as she thought of that, the true words she still remembered from that night came back to her. The silent promise she made herself to tell the story of the one that they lost. Should they lose someone, and that had happened. So at this moment, Rynn raised her head and light glittered in her sad eyes.
"I am a Bard, one called to tell the stories of my life, of others' lives," She trailed off for a moment, "And I swore to tell the story of the one we lost only three months ago, on the night of the Cultists' chase." She shook her head softly before beginning again, allowing all around to hear her tale. She hoped that the mares that had also seen it, would know that this was storytelling in the memory of a soul lost. Respectful to the dead. "Her name was Cassidy, round with foal, with the delicate flower of springtime memories placed behind her ear. Pink and complimentary to her creamy coat and flaxen mane. She walked, nerves shooting, but she remained... fairly calm considering where she was traveling..." Rynn sighed telling more of the story, all of the in between as they walked together.
"And the Ascendant with her delusional will given to please a false god, brought Cassidy down. In the snow, surrounded by those who had been rounded up into the same place, but who were powerless to do anything, but that were too frightened or injured to even make an attempt. The foal was brought from her womb, the mare left dead on the floor of the forest. The Cultists leaving us to relish in their night of revelry. Leaving us to weep if we could, or to silently leave her behind. Again taking our journey to Skeldr Town." The story had been necessary to tell for Rynn. She fell into silence again, however, and allowed the space for anyone who wished to talk. Rynn would join a conversation at this point, but initiating one seemed like too much for her, after all they had covered much space while she told the story of Cassidy.

Dante ~ Vagabond ~ MercenaryDante frowned. "That's not what I... Oh, great Ignacio, please help me get through this job..." He murmured under his breath.
Dante turned to the mares. "Look, I don't have anything against bears. But, right around now, anything and everything could attack us. Bear or otherwise."
The stallion groaned loudly. "Rynn, none of you know a thing about cultists in comparison to what I know." He explained to her. He wasn't attempting to be rude, only to tell them that he knew how to do his job. "I grew up with those wretched creatures, I know how they think. I know how to stop them. I know what they want. So don't say that I don't know cultists. They're bat-shit crazy."
Dante flicked his tail and trotted a few feet ahead. He was scouting out the grounds. A strange scent hit his nose. "Be careful, there's something nearby." He warned the other mares. Dante stopped where he was an looked around. He could have been totally wrong. But, there was know reason not to be cautious.

Jinxx | Vagabond | Mercenary
Jinxx followed the conversation quietly, and glanced at the mare who she couldn't remember the name of. She talked about how misunderstood bears were and jinxx nodded along, agreeing with her. She glanced down at Mathia, her albino hyena who plodded next to her, tongue sticking out and her short tail wagging lazily. "I think your grossly underestimating the Cultists." She heard Rynn say, and Dante mumble something rude under his breath. She rolled her eyes at them. Bickering. She almost giggled it amused her so.
As Rynn shared the story of the mother to be and her unborn foal she couldn't help but shiver, imagining the horror, she shook her coat to try and get back on task but the story and Dante's non nonchalant response to it bothered her. "She is right Dante." Jinxx began. "Cultists may be...crazy...but they are smart, and they have no fear." She said, flicking her tail as she sped up ever so slightly.
At his mention of 'something' being nearby she broke into a trot, and made her way through the small band of horses. "Stay close." She said to the three mares that had been in the middle. She passed Dante and Rynn, perking her ears forward and looking around, looking for a sign of whatever Dante might have noticed, perhaps it was just the wind.

Shiann | Wanderer
Shiann decided she did not like Dante. Jinxx seemed more agreeable but Shiann chose to keep her distance anyway. Mercenaries were an untrustworthy bunch, that’s what her father told her. They were a selfish, opportunistic killers that would sell you out the moment your contract expired or was out bid. Nothing at all like a vindicator, but whatever. It’s what they had and she was thankful for any protection they could get. The last journey had been a nightmare. One that had scarred Shiann deeply. She did her best to ignore Rynn as she revealed the horror of the bloodletting to their new traveling companions but even the snip bits were enough to bring the memories rushing back. Cassidy. Poor sweet Cassidy. She didn’t deserve what had been done to her. She had a whole life ahead of her, two lives actually. Rynn said they took the child. Shiann could only guess for what retched purpose. If it were lucky it'd be dead with it's mother. Gods, she hoped it was dead. The cultists were savage on an other worldly level, she had learned that first hand, but what plagued Shiann the most was the guilt. She was alive because of Cassidy. And Shiann knew this because, had she not been there, Shiann would have been the most vulnerable out of the five mares due to her injured leg. Had Cassidy not been there, Shainn would have been the one chosen to die that night. She was alive because of the death of a mother and child. Shiann stepped instinctively toward Seeker for comfort. The brown paint mare’s presence was something Shiann looked for a lot recently. Especially since she failed in finding her sister in Skeldr Town. Seeker had sort of taken that supportive role for Shiann and she was thankful for it every day. She even helped find a good War-Forged Healer that would work on her leg for cheap. It wasn’t healed but at least it was clean and clear of infection. The pain had dwindled too which was great but it still worried her. The woods were treacherous. What if they come back?
What if the cultists come back?
There was no Cassidy to take her place this time.
The sudden mention of 'something' nearby caused Shiann's heart to leap into her throat. She held her head close to Seeker's shoulder and glared at the two mercenaries. " Wh-What is it?" wc:406 Post 1 Notes: I'm so sorry, I'm so late D: Edit: Fixed some wording and grammar =u=

R Y N N ❦
"Horses change Dante... the world is changing. Bards everywhere at telling of the danger in Eithne, with the Aodhians caputuring and executing vagabonds. Pirates pass on the stories of the unrest in Talori. The Breim remain hidden away in their tunnels." She spoke of what she heard from the travelers she'd stumbled upon in Skeldr, "The Serorans in their desert, reaching out to the other herds. Things are changing in our world... and rapidly." Rynn sighed as the stallion snapped about knowing the Cultists. Rynn noticed Shiann's unease, as she had finished her story. Likely the bad memories were surfacing for them all. But Rynn had promised... she wasn't going to break that.
Then Dante drew in a breath and said softly, "Be careful, there is something nearby." Rynn's heart leapt into her throat, she raised her head from it's previously low held and forlorn manner. Her horn glittered. Her eyes sparkled with fear, but determination. She would protect her girls this time... if there was something about. Immediately she synced her steps with the other three, making sure to stay close to them as both mercenaries moved ahead, just a bit.
"Alya, help us. I beg. Kaia protect us, this is your land." She whispered softly, the wind catching her voice and send it spiraling away behind them. She cast a glance behind them, ears flattening as she scanned the area. Even if the scent had come from upwind... she wasn't taking her chances. Her eyes caught nothing out of the ordinary. Then the scent truly hit her. Unfamiliar and strange. Then the sound shattered her world, the loud roar tearing from the treeline as her eyes finally found the soft glow of what had previously been a myth to the Sedo-familiar mare. She planted her feet as the animals blinked into view, finally recognizing them for what they were, finally being able to pick out their colors from the trees. A huge roar goes through the crisp air again, and she can easily see that her whole group has flinched. Suddenly rethinking their previous conversations, as it seemed. Rynn was doing the same.
And with that final thought, the lumbering charge began, the Ursa Majors taking the group of horses journey as a provocation. And Rynn sighed, before whispering one more prayer.
Except this time to all of the gods, because she had already begun to lose her faith in this barren Onea landscape.

A roar shatters the still of night- then another. They see the glow first, the bright star of an Ursa Major lurking in the treeline. One by one, more blink into existence, and their lumbering charge towards you begins. What has overcome these beasts, for them to work in numbers, and hold such aggression? That’s a worry for later... if you survive.

Jinxx | vagabond | Mercenary _____________________________________________________________
As the roatr ripped through the eerily silent area, jinxx slowly turned her head a to look at the group of Ursa majors that were approaching them.
"Save us Argus..." the said quietly before she put herself between the group of mares and the bears, flattening her ears and bearing her teeth at them. Mathia growled at the bears, her large white teeth threatening them as she snapped them together.
Jinxx vaguely remembered story her father had told her about these strange, glowing creatures. He told that he had been walking alone, bleeding to death after a violent fight with some cultists that he barely escaped alive. He then told her he saw a larhge black Ursa major with purple glowing on its chest and shoulders. He and the beasts eyes met, it nodded at him and turned back the way it came, vanishing into the snowy white onea woods. Shortly after he met a vagabond who had great healing skills that saved his life. He told her that the Ursa major was a sign of luck. How wrong had he been, jinx thought to herself as she reared toward the bears, hitting g one on the head with a sharp hoof. "Stay behind me." She ordered, her muscles twitching in anticipation.

OOC: Due to the Onea Climate, we'll be using a pack of grizzlies with one lone polar bear within the group. Grizzlies are generally 3.3ft on average but can grow up to 4.9ft at the shoulder. A polar bear is on average 4.4 at the shoulder, which is what our bear will be. <3

Persephone | Vagabond | Bard
Persephone listened to the other bard's story, her head dipping slightly and she closed her eyes sending a prayer to the Gods' that the Cultists' victim found peace in the next journey of her life. Cassidy. Persephone committed the name and the story to her heart. It never did well to forget the deceased in Persephone's opinion. No matter how insignificant someone may have seemed in life, their choices, their experiences always left their mark on the world. For Cassidy, it might just have been the foal she had been carrying, it may have been the fear her death caused, it may have even been something else.
The champagne pegasus trotted along silently, choosing to listen once again to her companions. While she was normally one telling stories, she felt she had little to contribute to this particular part of their journey.
After a few angry grumbles from the stallion, he raised his voice, warning the rest of them to be cautious. Seph's pale eyes looked around, trying to see if there was anything for them to be scared of, or if it was perhaps an animal just minding its' own business and making noise.
And then, a scent hit her nose, and her eyes lit up. There was nothing to worry about then, as she had just told the group, bears were no danger to horses as long as they didn't upset the bear. However, just as she was about to speak up, she, along with the rest of the group saw lights- so many lights blinking and coming closer. A roar shattered the calm of the night, and then the Ursa Majors' were charging towards the small group of horses.
The female mercenary- Jinxx- reared up, striking the closest bear on the head, and ordered the others to stay behind her.
"No!" the startled cry rose from Persephone's throat, and though the adrenaline now flooding her veins told her to fly, she instead dug her hooves into the ground as she came shoulder to shoulder with Jinxx flaring her snow-white wings as wide as she could, rearing up on her hind legs.
"Stop! We mean you no harm, we are just passing through!" Persephone's tone was higher pitched than normal, but still exuded a calm note, hoping she could help this confrontation end without bloodshed from either side. The mare came back down onto all four hooves, but her wings remained flared, as she hoped her words brought reason to the enraged looking bears.

Dante ~ Vagabond ~ MercenaryDante frowned at the group. "That's not what I meant..." He grumbled in annoyance. What did it matter that they know his life story? Dante knew what they were up against. Cultists were bat-shit crazy. He knew they were capable of things far worse than just killing. He wasn't going to argue the matter further, though, as it seemed no one cared what he thought anyways.
Dante looked into the distance just in time to see the flashing lights approach. "Oh great. Bears. What did I tell you?" His murmurs weren't loud enough for anyone to actually make out what he was saying. The stallion charged to Jinxx's side. His teeth were bared and he readied his stance to lash out with ease.
Then one of the mares proved herself stupid enough to try talking to the Ursas. "Get back!" He yelled at her and bolted forward in time to see one of the bears roar and lash out a paw. He couldn't say if it had hit her or not. "Damn Kaia..." He growled under his breath as he pushed Persephone back towards the group. "Get back now, before it beheads you!" He hissed.
Dante's eyes fell on Jinxx. "Well, you gonna just stand there?"

Jinxx | Vagabond | Mercenary
Jinxx felt a twinge of pain as Persephone came beside her, flapping her wings and accidentally hitting jinxx with them. She couldn't believe her eyes. Was this mare trying to communicate with the bears? She shoved Persephone back. "I said stay behind me!" She screeched at her, turning around and striking out at the bears with her back hooves.
"Well are you just gonna stand there?" She heard Dante ask and she felt an urge to kick him instead of the bears but resisted, spinning back on her haunches and digging her teeth into the bears hide, but not before it used its claws on her shoulder, leaving four large scratches. She hissed in pain, lashing out with her hooves once more. During her work she had become experienced, and very good at her job. While those skills were useful on other equines, she didnt know where to strike a bear for the kill so she aimed at the head. She was overwhelmed by claws and teeth but continued to fight, successfully knocking one of the smaller bears down and prepared to stomp on him. She glanced over at Dante and the mares, making sure they were safe. In her moment of distraction the bear latched onto her leg. She held in her scream and used her other leg to kick it across the jaw, and bit down on its throat.

Seeker | Wanderer She was free in her wildness. She was a wanderess, a drop of free water. She belonged to no man and to no city” ― Roman Payne, The Wanderess
Seeker's nostrils flared as alarm started to flood through the small group. She had been relatively quiet in honor of the dead Cassidy. Seeker had little faith in God's but it would be a lie to say she wasn't sending her thought to another plane when the lights of he star bears glittered before the. As a few braver than she came forward to stand against the Ursa beasts she felt shame flood her as her heart aches for her to run. Then she caught sight of Shiann and her steel she had felt on the night of the bloodletting came back. She could not be a coward when someone might need her. Shifting so she leaned against Shiann, Seeker whispered "Stay behind me dear"
She would be strong for Shiann if anything. Suddenly the one called Jinxx was within the bears. The harsh tang of blood became apparent as the mare continued to fight. Could she help? But what he been the point of hiring these fighters but to protect them. Shaking her doubts out of her mind she looked at Shiann again.
"Stay here and stay away from the bears. If they come near, run"
With that she hurried to the mercenaries aid. Staying clear of the other bears Seeker would nip and dance away when the bears tried to bite at Jinxx. Anger flared in her gut as the others stood there. A good smack to Seekers head sent her stumbling away, a deep scratch from a claw sent blood trickling down the brown mare's face, staining her flaxen hair and cream dappled coat.Shaking her head she tried to get her bearings, she couldn't just leave that mare to the bears. Not like she had with Cassidy and the cultists.

The menacing roar of the great bear was loud enough to shake the entire forest. The vibrations danced around in Shiann’s chest, making her sick. Bears were usually never a problem. They hardly ever took any interest in equine, and like the others had said before, as long as you kept your distance, you were as safe as can be. Shiann had never been scared of them. She was born in a great forest, so she was used to living along side these kinds of large predators, but there she stood, paralyzed in fear. This forest was very unkind, she knew this well, and the roar did not sound like any bear she remembered. It was deeper, more furious, and it was close. The reveal was something spectacular. As it turned out, the bear was no ordinary bear at all, but a fabled, sparkling, mystical Ursa Major and to the group's horror, it wasn’t charging alone. One by one, more starred giants broke through the forest brush making their way to the unfortunate band of travelers. The space between them and the onslaught of teeth and claws were closed within seconds. Jinxx threw the first punch than all hell broke loose. Shiann didn’t know what to do, she didn’t understand why these bears were attacking or why they didn’t listen to pegasus who should have been able talk to them. Shiann paced nervously, picking up the dirt at her feet as she watched the other horses take action in front of her. Her mind began to race. Why was this happening? What should I do? Do I fight? Or should I run? Where would I go? I just want to get out of this God’s’ forsaken country!! Her panic was crippling her more than her leg. Then Seeker turned to her. A gentle touch and a steady whisper was all that was needed to tear Shiann away from herself and calm her thoughts. Seeker gave her something to focus on now. She was saving her, again. Oh, how thankful Shiann was to have Seeker by her side! But then, just like that, she was gone. "Stay here and stay away from the bears. If they come near, run”And then the panic came back. Her first instinct was to do exactly what the brown appaloosa had told her. Run. Run like the selfish little vagabond she was and leave everyone else to fend for themselves. A year ago or perhaps even with other horses, Shiann wouldn't have thought twice about fleeing, but it was different now. She had known Seeker and Rynn for too long and they've been through too much together. If she ran now, it’d be like giving her family up to the wolves. So she resolved to stay despite her better judgment telling her not to. “I don’t want to run Seeker!!” Shiann called after her friend as she joined the fight, her voice hoarse from the sobs threatening to escape her throat. Then she watched in horror as the Ursa struck her face drawing blood. “SEEKER!!”It was what was needed to finally draw Shiann into action. In an instant, she found herself charging toward the bear in a blind fury. Using all her strength she knocked the enraged mass of fur and muscle off it’s feet and into a nearby boulder, knocking it out, Hopefully. She gave it a good kick for good measure, then made her way back to Seeker’s side. Panting, she quickly surveyed both their wounds. Seeker was hurt bad, but the scratch wasn’t lethal. Shiann couldn’t tell if she was hurting or not. The adrenaline was taking care of that for her, so she helped the other mare stand. “I’m not leaving you.”

Dante ~ Vagabond ~ MercenaryDante frowned as the bears went into a full-fledged attack mode. He reared, bucked, and kicked at them. His teeth would land into the thick fur of one ursa, then his hind hoof would slam into another's skull. There was no way they could beat this whole group. They were beyond reason for some reason or another. He kept a close eye on the mares. It would be a damn shame if one of them ended up brutally beaten or killed.
Dante shook his head. He didn't need those thoughts clouding his mind. He twisted on his hooves to lunge at the leader of the pack. Just as his head was poised to ram into the polar ursa's chest, its massive paw slammed into his face. It claws tore down his cheek. For the first time in a long time, Dante shrieked out the loudest scream of pain he could manage. For a few moments, everything was fuzzy and bloody. He shook his head in an attempt to clear his mind and vision. The stallion was pissed. He didn't need to deal with this.
Dante reared again, lashing his hooves at the great bear. He made a few hits, but it wouldn't do much. Bears were so massive. And these ones were furious, for some illogical reason. He glanced back at the mares. "We should find a way to get away from them! No way we can take down this many bears!" He called back.

Jinxx | Vagabond | Mercenary
Jinxx couldnt hear anything over the sound of her own beating heart that pounded in her ears. As she bit down on ones bears neck, he went limp and she felt a small sense of guilt but it vanished as the pain in her leg returned. She moved to the next bear, doing her best to fight it but had a hard time with her now injured and bloodied leg. Still, she reminded herself that she had been in worse pain before. She caught a glimpse of the appaloosa she beleived to be called Seeker, fighting along side her. Jinxx flattened her ears, willing the mare to leave while she could.
She couldnt beleive her eyes when she saw yet another mare join them, this one being the grey mare called Shiann. She couldnt beleive it. This was her job! In the anger she felt she kicked the bear with all of her fury, sending him toward a tree. In the midst of everything she heard a piercing scream. Dante. She didnt dare move from where she was though, for fear of the bear moving onto one of the more vulnerable mares.
"We should find a way to get away from them! No way we can take down this many bears!" She heard Dante yell. Without speaking she kicked the bears jaw and rushed to the two mares sides. "Run now! Me and Dante will be right behind you!" She urged them with desperate green eyes as she hurried to Dante.

Persephone | Vagabond | Bard
Though she knew that the bears could understand her, after all she did harness the ability to speak to animals, there was no recognition that her words got through to a single bear. In each pair of eyes, all she was was an unleashed, unfathomable anger, with no desire to stop, such was their rage. The Ursa closest to her swiped a massive paw, and Persephone skittered back on unsteady hooves as its' claws sliced into the soft flesh of her cheek before one of the mercenaries was shoving her back, both of them berating her. They were being paid to protect the others, and Persephone certainly hadn't made that task easy by charging head long into a pack of bears. But she had, had to try.
There was something wrong. The bears she had seen before in her travels normally wandered alone, and were normally not this.. This foul tempered. Persephone fell back with the other mares, watching helplessly as the pair of mercenaries tore into the bears, and hot tears built up in her eyes before silently dripping down her face, mingling with the blood that was quickly leaking from her wounds. Indecision tore into Persephone's heart as the other mares joined in the fighting, one of them being struck across the face just like she had. She couldn't fight against these animals, it was against everything she believed in. There had to be a reason they were grouped and attacking. The group of vagabonds were just supremely unlucky to befall the fate of running into the raging bears.
It was only a few seconds that Persephone stood, frozen watching as her acquaintances and the Ursa's fought each other, before one of the bears surged past the rest, and lumbered quickly for the champagne mare. A shrill whinny was wrought from her throat as she reared up once more to try and spook the bear off. However, it seemed to not care, and barreled straight into her stomach, knocking her back legs out from under her and sending her crashing onto her back, a sharp pain exploding from her right wing as she landed on it. Persephone scrambled to try and right herself, but the bear wasted no time in swiping at her exposed belly, the tips of his claws scoring four jagged lines down the length of her abdomen. A pain filled shriek left her throat as she tried to right herself, before the bear swiped again, knocking her onto her side.
"H-Help!" Persephone was loathe to cry for help, for she did not want any of the other vagabonds being injured, nor did she want the Ursa injured. But her sense of survival was too great, and she was unable to handle this bear on her own, not when it kept knocking her back down before she could even right herself. There was only so much flailing of her hooves that she could do before the bear found a new way to attack her, and she realized she was quickly running out of time.

Seeker | Wanderer She was free in her wildness. She was a wanderess, a drop of free water. She belonged to no man and to no city” ― Roman Payne, The Wanderess
The bloodloss was pretty significant and Seekers face burned from the torn flesh yet she could tell it was nothing more than surface. But that sure as hell didn't stop the impact from dismounting the mare from her usual cool aloofness. Her legs buckled and then regained themselves as she tried to maintain her feet. Then Shiann was there, helping her stand. "I'm not leaving you." There shudder of warmth that rippled through the Appaloosa lent her some form of strength. The brown mare smiled at the kind companion, through all her years after being an Aodh slave she had very few friends and even less those who she would stay with. The female had a wanders heart which often hurt those who wanted her to stay. Now, and for some time Seeker had to admit was that she now longed to stay with Shiann, afraid they would leave her. Leaning against Shiann for balance she murmured a heartfelt thanks.
Then their reality was back as screams of horse and bear alike ripped the wound induced veil from Seeker. One of the mercs was telling them they'd not win. Then the other gave them an opening. Nipping Shiann 's neck to show her agreement Still unbalanced, she began to try and run from the bears, the others saying they would follow.
"We will go together, c'mon Shiann"
Her bell voice rippled from her, shaking slightly from the head injury. That was until Persephone began to cry out and the horror she saw brought flashes from the bloodletting back. Shaking her head again, sending blood drops flying, the world came back. A bubbling anger filled her and she began to gain speed. Rearing up before the bear that was mauling the bard, she planted her hooves with force and sent the bear stumbling away from the Pegasus. Now dizzy, she stomped her front hooves to keep her feet. "Shiann" Seeker murmured back to her friend. Then looked at the bard who obviously had sustained heavy injury. "Can you stand Persephone"
Boy. That would throw a wrench in the mercenaries goal if she couod not.

Jinxx | Vagabond | Mercenary
Mathia stood to the side where Jinxx had told her to stay once she knew the bears were aggressive. The hyena had climbed a tree for safety, her eyes riddled with fear for her owner. Usually, Jinxx would allow her to fight alongside them but not now. The albino hyena was not as strong as others, which was part of the reason she took her in in the first place. Still, Jinxx refused to put her in this type of danger. The all too familiar scent of blood wafted up to Jinxxs nose, and she twisted her head to see the Pegasus who had been so stupid as to defend the bears, now being attacked by one. In another situation, Jinxx might have chuckled. This time, she did not and leaped to save her only to have the mare Seeker interfere before she could, striking the bear and sending him stumbling away; only to have him lock wild eyes on his next target. Dante. The stallions back was turned as the bear charged toward him, still dazed. Jinxx lunged forward once more, her leg screaming in pain as pressure was applied. She threw herself between Dante and the bear, planting all four hooves firmly into the ground. The bear slid to a stop, looking at her with a menacing glare. It rose up on its back legs, towering above Jinxx, roaring with all of its might. In this moment, jinxx felt an unfamiliar emotion she hadn't felt in many years. Fear. She closed her eyes as the monster swung a paw, hitting her on the top of the head but not drawing blood. She took a few side steps, dizzied by the force of the impact. Her vision blurred and her hearing was muffled and had a faint buzz. Still, she kept on, rushing the bear and head-butting him in the stomach, sending the unbalanced creature on his back.
While he was still vulnerable, Jinxx bit down on his neck, drawing blood which stained her white snip marking. The bear circled his arms around her neck, digging in his claws in what could be called a fatal hug. Soon, he stopped moving and Jinxx stood up, looking down at the creature with no guilt what so ever. Her eyes only held pride and the knowledge that she had done what she had to. Now, she lifted her head to look at her traveling companions who fought nearby.
"Run now! Leave while you still can!" Jinxx screamed at Shiann, Seeker, Persephone, and Rynn; her voice cracking as she yelled at them. They had paid her for this service, the service that could very well end her life. She urged them to go, staring at them with desperate pale green eyes as she leaned over the now dead bear, her mouth dripping blood from her fresh kill.

Shiann | Wanderer
Shiann caught up to Seeker and Persephone. The Pegasus mare was in terrible shape. Her entire abdomen was covered in scrapes from the mauling she just endured, and there was a significant amount of bloodloss. Just looking at her was painful. Shiann wasn’t sure if the younger mare was going to make it out of this. She looked to Seeker, concern and anxiety radiating from her eyes. Their chances of making it out of this were getting slimmer by each passing moment. The bear pack’s strange rage which had been so unkindly released on them wasn’t faltering. They couldn’t fight them, there were too many, but outrunning them wasn’t going to be easy. Bears were relentless pursuers and they were drawn to those that fled, Shiann knew this. The injured pegasus would hold them back. Rynn, Seeker and her were weakened but still possibly had a chance if they left the others behind for the bears. "Run now! Leave while you still can!” Jinxx called out from behind. Shiann turned urgently to the two mercenaries fighting valiantly alongside each other against the violent onslaught of bears. The sight mesmerized and confused her. Mercenaries were supposed to be cowardly killers that backed out the second their lives were threatened, yet these two seemed to be very willing to put their own livelihoods at stake in order for strangers to get to safety. Were all mercenaries this… noble? Had her father been wrong all this time? A pain of guilt filled Shiann’s stomach as she realized that she had harshly misjudged Jinxx and Dante. She looked back to the battered pegasus heaped onto the floor and her stomach twisted in knots as she reflected on the thoughts that passed through her mind not even seconds ago. She was the real coward here, not the mercenaries. She moaned in frustration before kneeling down beside Persephone and looked up to Seeker. “Help me carry her! We have to go now, before the bears catch interest again!”

R Y N N ❦
Persephone's foolish charge and vain attempt to speak to the animals was rewarded harshly. Something which moved the generally flight-type mare to a more fight-like one. She streaked forward, black horn glistening to rear up alongside Dante. The wouldn't be able to beat the bears easily. To be perfectly fair, she expected three to actually fall, what with their size. Her horn could prove useful, but only in the moment she could actually use it, when she could plunge it into another's skull or neck. Dante's fight sent horrible cracks through the air, the snap of bones when his pointed hooves reached skulls. The dull thump when they collided with chests and other more pelted areas. The slavering jaws of the beasts were horrifying though, and try as she might to fight, because one of Alya's daughter's had been attacked, the mare still found herself flinching and moving much to slow. Then both mercenaries began to shriek at each other over the dull rumble of the battle. To flee had to be impossible. They'd have to stall until the bears were frightened away or at least give up.
The cream and bay colored mare snapped quickly, finally matching Dante's strikes with some of her own, quickly parrying along with him with a boost of valiant strength that she had not seen in years. "We cannot run, look at how many. You two would be swamped, and chances are the rest would lumber after us. Bears are too fast, it's no use." She ducked a paw, feeling the claws club her ear and blood soak down into her blonde mane. Then Jinxx was with them, cutting off the path of a would-be-attacker. One that could have definitely downed Rynn and given Dante at least a scare. It was then that Rynn faltered, when she looked ahead of her, after her previous opponent went of to the side, likely not interested in more streaking cuts, that she saw it. The white fur almost blended with the environment, the black eyes stared them all down. The chest had a mix of a glow, it was still young. Likely just reaching adulthood, judging by its size. Rynn's head probably just reached his shoulder, perhaps a little bit above. The thing itself, however, was bulky and huge. With muscle not easy to miss. Something that would have normally sent Rynn dashing away. And yet, they couldn't, because with the bears' behavior all over the place as it was, chances were they'd chase and how so would be unpredictable.
"We have to clear some sort of path for us to take on the biggest bear, that polar bear. If he joins the ones we currently fight we'll all be killed." She screamed above the roars and grumbles of the bears around her, stepping forward momentarily, jabbing with her horn. Something that the bears took care to shy away from. The one she's previously been kicking at with Dante dropped away from their fight, loping away, giving them momentary clearance.
"Hurry, work to remove this bear and then we should actually move forward to get the largest, he's going to incite the others to run away if he falls, if he kills us, well, all we were doing here was prolonging the end." The cream and bay mare looked back for a split second, meeting the injured pegasi's eyes. Rynn wouldn't want to kill any animal, or even hurt one for that matter. But at this moment in time, escape seemed inevitable for them all. Hell, Rynn was only trying to fight because she figured her horn could deliver a swift killing blow in a moment of need. She shouldered away from Jinxx another time to bluntly push against the bear Dante now fought. Her bites were well timed, tearing chunks of fur when Dante had both it's jaws and claws distracted. Tufts of fur and blood came free in her mouth, making the mare choke between parries and attacks, everything about her regretting leaving Skledr Town even if she had hired mercenaries with the rest of the group.
"When this one moves off you, move forward to the polar bear if Jinxx can as well. I'll go back to the rest of my girls, make sure they stay safe. Shiann has a bad leg, and Persephone already looks worse for wear." The cream mare ducked away from another claw as she finished addressing Dante, and then quickly loped over to where the small posse was. "We can't run, they'll outrun us and we'll be defenseless if they catch us from behind, despite our kicks." The mare swept her tail over the snow-laden ground, causing her to look down and see that she had not come out of the fight with merely an ear injury. Rather she had shallows gashes down her chest and up her shoulders and neck. She'd hardly come out unscathed.
"Shiann, can you defend Persephone or jump into one of us if we look to be pushed too far. If we look like we could be killed. We need extra support at that time. Just step in quickly." Then she lowered her eyes softly, "If you're defending Persephone then we'll have both be swamped or distracted. Just call for one of us or Jinxx." The cream turned to Seeker and stepped a few steps away from Persephone and Shiann. "Are you ready to push some bears off of us. Jinxx and Dante should be going for the polar bear soon. If I run off, it's to make sure their backsides stay somewhat clear." And then the mare sighed softly, a frown on her face. "I don't know how to fight and nor do you, but we'll keep these two safe." She whispered another line, one that she doubted Seeker could hear, "Got to keep them safe for Cassidy."
And then another grizzly lunged at them, beady black eyes staring them down, filled with murderous rage as it's paws raised. Rynn nodded quickly before rearing up again, pushing out with her front hooves....

Dante ~ Vagabond ~ MercenaryDante was pretty preoccupied with one of the grizzlies, when Rynn came forward to help him fight. He gave her a brief smile of appreciation. Him and Jinxx had been hired, but those mares were fighting for their lives right alongside them. He had to admit, they weren't quite as worthless as he'd originally thought. But, Dante's thoughts were brief. He had ursa's to focus on killing. Or, at the very least, chasing away. That didn't seem like a likely option, though.
He fought with all his might. Kicks, strikes, and bites were launched to counter similar movements from the bears. The one that was so dead set on him and Rynn had to tire eventually. Then, Jinxx came out of nowhere, blocking a blow that could have been fatal. "Gods! Why are they doing this!? Seriously!" Dante shouted in frustration. The bears had appeared and attacked immediately. It didn't make sense.
When Rynn started shouting out a plan, and putting down his, he listened closely. The polar bear would be a serious problem for sure. Maybe they could taunt it until it followed. Dante nodded to himself. That's what he would do.
"Once we get the bear on the ground, you're going to need to deliver the fatal blow, Rynn. Our hooves and teeth are only so useful." He glanced at the mares who had seemed so apposed to fighting these bears earlier. He almost didn't want to kill any of the creatures, but what other choice did they have? "You'll need to shove your horn through its head somewhere. Eye socket, under the jaw, soft spot in its skull, anywhere. But, that's the best shot you can get."
That's when he saw another grizzly charge for the mares. Dante groaned, what would he do now? The stallion bolted through the snow, head lowered, ready to completely body slam the bear. Maybe he'd throw it off balance.

Jinxx | Vagabond | Mercenary
Jinxx picked her head up at the sound of Rynn announcing a plan and rushed to her side, knowing that if she hesistated for a moment they could all die. She stood side by side with the mare, listening to her words intently. She heard Dante chime in and finally laid eyes on the massive bear they spoke of. He was massive, bigger than the other bears that she had taken on. The large polar bear approached them with a menacing glare on his growling features. He glowed bright and looked at her and she shivered. She glanced over to see Dante gallop toward one of the grizzlies and ordered Rynn to deliver the final blow. She took a breath and looked to the sky.
"Protect me Argus. Protect all of us." She said with closed eyes, her chest pumping with adrenaline and fear. She looked back to the bear, locking eyes on it. She leaped off her hind legs, galloping toward the menacing creature who roared at the sight of her. She slammed into his side, throwing him off balance slightly but not doing a whole lot. She stumbled back herself, but head butted him again. The white bear swung a paw toward her, scratching her leg. It stung like hell but she hardly felt it through the adrenaline. The bear had had enough of her already and opened his wide jaws, grabbing her chest and tearing off a chunk. Jinxx screamed, kicking her front legs out and pushing off of his massive form in an attempt to get away from the vicious animal.

Persephone | Vagabond | Bard
Only seconds after she had called for help, one of the mares- Seeker- came galloping towards her and the bear. The bear, for his part didn't bother with the new horse, intent on trying to get through Persephone's flailing limbs. But then Seeker's hooves struck, knocking the bear away from her. Now that she didn't have to focus all her attention on her new wounds. Pain radiated from her stomach, and her ears flicked, hearing Seeker's question. The pegasus really hoped that she could stand. There were cuts all over her legs, but aside from those, her legs seemed fine.
Wincing in pain, Persephone rolled over, tucking her legs underneath herself, as Shiann knelt beside her. "I can walk, You won't have to carry me." her voice was laced with pain, but still held her soft tones.
And then Rynn was talking of taking out the leader- the polar bear. The mare met Persephone's eyes with a saddened, but resolved look. Persephone understood; There was no way to avoid this terrible bloodshed, not if they all wanted to keep their lives. The anguish gripped her heart, but there was nothing else they could do.
As the mercenaries and Rynn made a plan, Persephone turned her attention to trying to stand up. With her wings folded against her sides- her injured wing hanging a little more loosely than the other- she pushed her hooves into the earth, standing up with slight difficulty. Blood dripped slowly from her face, stomach, and her legs.
