Xyliana Talori l Geminus

Relax. Take the day to do what you want. That was the sentiment Xyliana and the others had been left with and she hated it. It wasn't that she felt the need to be in the meeting, in fact, she couldn't have cared less about that. It was more the feeling of leaving the empress unprotected that concerned her. She had vowed to protect their leader no matter what, and if history had taught her anything, it was times like these that left their leaders most open to attacks. Still, she bit her tongue, silently agreeing to her empress' wishes, staying close to the other gemini and the conparis instead. While relaxing was simply not a word she was comfortable with in these tumultuous times, she decided she wouldn't let the time they had go to waste. Settling in near the others, she began slowly easing her body into a series of stretches, intending on refocusing her body and mind. Even so, she kept a careful eye on the conparis. If she couldn't be there to protect the empress for the time being, she could at the very least protect her husband. While recent events had prevented her from getting to know any of the group really well, she decided now was as good a time as any. "How are you settling in to Aquore?" Xyliana asked the pegasus, stretching out her left foreleg as she spoke. Word Count: 237 Post #1

Tzilia | Geminus | Mare
Relaxing may not have been the word Tzilia used to describe the day; even if it was the one their Empress had insisted on using.
There was an itch that seemed to plague her hooves, causing them to shift uneasily and dance across the earth that threaded through the garden. Her heart fluttered softly in her chest, and she couldn't quite tell if the way the wind moved around her in short gusts was a coincidence or the doing of her blessing (though she knew Faris was from Alya's land, she fervently hoped the others would not notice the erratic nature of the air).
Their country had suffered so much heartache in a condensed amount of time, and though Tzilia knew the Empress' orders were meant to be a blessing to them, it was difficult to shake the idea that Thalassa was left in that courtroom with minimal protection; with rogues who had already sacrificed a princess, no less. She knew it was a concern lacking in foundation (they weren't exactly about to repeat their actions while inland, surrounded by Talorian officials, after all), but the nagging feeling refused to leave her gut if she allowed herself to still.
It was Xyliana's voice that broke the silence the Gemini and Conparis shared, and Tzilia nearly allowed herself to breathe out a sigh of relief. If nothing else it was a much welcome distraction from her own concerns, and she often found it interesting to listen to the stallion compare their world to the one that he had come from. It was different life, certainly, but one she often found herself enjoying hearing about.
Tzilia quietly slipped in among her comrades, finding herself Lydia's side as they awaited Faris' answer.

Xyliana nodded as Faris spoke, not fully understanding, but sympathizing with his unique position. While she didn't have much in the way of a close knit family or community, she couldn't imagine how difficult it must have been for him to leave behind the relationships he held dear for a foreign nation where he would be nothing more than a stranger. ”What about you guys? I know it’s not the same - but how are you all enjoying being a Geminus?” Xyliana flicked her ears forward slightly at Faris's question. In truth, it wasn't something she had thought much on since joining. It was her duty, as much as foraging in the Wilds had been before. ”I love it. I couldn’t find something that suited me better. Although, I do get a bit nervous in times like this while proceedings are going on.” She listened intently as Lydia spoke, intrigued to learn something new about her fellow Geminus, especially since she didn't know any of them well. "I'm adjusting well enough." Xyliana said with a small smile after the younger geminus had finished. "Though I completely agree with Lydia when it comes to concern over these proceedings. It feels strange to be so far away when we might be needed." She shook her head slightly, as if staving some frustration. Word Count: 221 Post #2

Tzilia | Geminus | Mare
Tzilia listened as her companions recounted their time as Geminus with quiet interest, nodding as they spoke of their experiences. Though she didn't know many of her co workers well yet, she would admit she was on the same page as them- the job had been wonderful so far. Though at times heart racing, if the Defender's coronation a mere three months ago was any indication.
"It can be nerve wracking," Tzilia admitted in agreement, the bounce in her hoof returning at the mention.
The wind began to pick up, and for a brief moment she worried that it was her own blessing that was the cause; that was, until she saw the storm clouds begin to crest. The weather changed in an almost violent manner, and Tzilia found herself sloshing through an already flooded garden to duck beneath a tree, eyeing the arches that lead back to the lovely, dry indoors of the palace. It didn't provide much cover from the storm, but it was something for now she supposed. From the corner of her eye she caught the oddity, swiveling to eye the odd draining pattern.
"Any idea what that is?" she called over the sound of thunder to her companions, gesturing with her head to the garden wall.

Tzilia | Geminus | Mare
Though Tzilia wasn't terribly fond of the idea of braving the rain again to root around the palace gardens, -though she adored the water, there was something about having it strike against her back in hard drops that made it less than appealing- her curiosity won out over her trepidation. Readying herself, she dove out of the meager shelter of the tree and trotted forward with quick strides to look at the water as it drained beneath the wall.
It was almost certainly nothing, Tzilia knew, and somewhere at the back of her mind she wondered if the boredom was actually getting to her that much. Under almost any other circumstances she doubted she would have paid the small anomaly much mind; after all, she was sure their Empress would just adore a report on the drainage capabilities of her garden's walls. The thought was quickly ignored as she peered down at the swirling drain of the water, ears flicking back as she listened if her companions were joining her. Thunder and the pounding of the rain made it difficult for her to tell, and unsure if they were intending on joining or simple watching as she foolishly watched water being whisked away, she turned her attention back to the wall.
Tzilia gingerly extended a foreleg forward, setting her hoof down to cover the area the drain, or hole, or whatever it really was, seemed to originate from.

Xyliana snorted softly as the storm finally rolled in, the gentle drizzle turning more severe as water fell from the sky. She'd always enjoyed the rain, but how quickly the garden began to flood seemed a bit strange. Her companions began speaking once more, mentioning a strange anomaly with the water, leading the mare to move to where they stood. Swiveling her ears around as she drew closer, she heard Lydia's voice over the storm, ”Not sure what it is? Seems like a passage? Drain? I’m not sure, come see.”
Shaking the water from her eyes, Xyliana slid into the small huddled group of horses, keen on investigating what the others had found. The water swirled about as it seemed to slowly drain out of the area.... but the placement felt...odd. A bit too odd to actually be part of the drainage system, but what did Xy know? She wasn't an architect and her only real experience with drainage was for her grandfather's garden. She huffed softly, watching as Lydia carefully placed a hoof over the unseen hole, waiting to see if anything changed. "Do you feel anything strange?" She asked, eyeing the other mare curiously. Tzilia | Geminus | Mare
"I'm not sure," Tzilia murmured in reply to Xyliana, feeling as the water washed from her fetlock and was whisked into oblivion. "But I think there might be something down there."
Her pawing became more rapid and earnest as she tore the earth from it's place, her soft golden teke joining in to help prevent the water from filling in their progress immediately. It sparked memories that transported her to a time when she was but a foal, building structures along the beach and desperately digging holes to prevent the ocean from sweeping the hard work away. There was a rhythm to it, and Tzilia found herself incredibly glad that her companions seemed to share an interest in uncovering whatever was there; otherwise she would very much look like a child playing in the mud.
The water had mixed with the ground to form a thick sludge that already coated her forelegs and had splashed up to cover her belly. Her flaxen mane lay plastered to her neck and her tail tangled between her legs, no doubt matted with its fair share of mud, and all together she was quite certain she looked an utter mess. Yet somehow it felt more comfortable than the pristine palace life she had begun to grow accustomed to as she worked alongside the Empress, and a new vigor restored her as she worked to help uncover whatever was there.
She looked up from her work as Lydia spoke, watching as the mare placed her weight onto one of the newly uncovered stones. An unexpected discovery, certainly, and with a bit of effort she managed to uncover another one nearby.
"There's a few of them," Tzilia said in wonder, droplets flicking from the bridge of her muzzle as she looked down at the dirt streaked stones. Tentatively, she mirrored Lydia's actions, feeling the stone shift beneath her weight.

Xyliana watched as the other Geminus stepped onto the freshly uncovered stones, carefully following suite. Whatever these stones were they seemed like they'd been here for a while. While a small part of her thought the entire exercise was a bit silly, a part of her was reminded of traveling the Wilds with her grandfather as a younger mare, and it sparked something within her. As she settled onto the stone nearest to her, she felt the stone shift slightly, a sensation that seemed a bit odd to her. Why would such a large stone embedded in the ground shift under her weight? It was embedded in the ground, right? She glanced at the others, her gaze settling on Faris as she spoke. "While this may be nothing... we should be careful... Especially you." She said, motioning towards the pegasus. "I doubt the empress would be very forgiving if we let something happen to you on our watch, especially if we had a hoof in it." She muttered softly, glancing at Lydia and Tzillah once more. Word Count: 176 Post #4

For a moment, despite all the stones having been stepped on, nothing appears to happen. After waiting several seconds, you prepare to step off of them, convinced that they do nothing. Instead, you watch as the wall flickers and seems to fade ever so slightly. It is see-through now.
You are reminded of your god's intangibility blessing. This wall must have been imbued with it. Beyond the wall is a dark tunnel. No lights seem to line the walls and its impossible to tell how far it reaches... or if you can get back out.

Tzilia | Geminus | Mare
Tzilia couldn't help the flutter of disappointment in her chest when, despite their attempts to uncover and stand on the stepping stones, nothing happened. She knew that in all likelihood the stones had been nothing, perhaps long forgotten decorations to the garden that had been left to waste away, but there was something about the mystery of them that had left her hopeful. Though of what, she wasn't entirely sure.
Her disappointment became palpable as she turned to step away from the stones, preparing herself to go clean the mud from her body and head back inside. Yet just as she began to do so, something shifted.
"Oh," she breathed, suddenly finding herself looking into a long, unlit tunnel.
Lydia's words reached her as though spoken through cotton, her legs already itching to dive into the murky darkness stretching before her. Was it the best idea? Probably not, but already her mind was making up excuses to why exploring such a tunnel would be a good idea; after all, if they hadn't been aware of this tunnel's existence, wasn't that a potential asset to their enemies?
The thought was given a voice not a moment later, as Tzilia followed swiftly after Lydia into the pseudo wall.
"I wonder if anyone else knows this is here?" Tzilia spoke in awe, her hooves following after Lydia without much conscious thought. Her eyes were busy elsewhere, straining at the darkness to see any indications of what might be on the walls surrounding them.

The mare stood still for what seemed like an eternity, holding her breath while she waited. When the stones didn't move and nothing else seemed to happen, she remembered to breathe as a small sigh of relief escaped her lips. Curious as she might be, something about dragging the conparis on some sort of crazy adventure without permission or instructions from her empress just didn't sound like a good idea. As she was about to step off the stone, she caught it, a flicker out of the corner of her eye. Facing the direction she'd seen it in, she watched for a moment, as the wall seemed to almost fade in and out, as if it was as intangible as the sea goddess's blessing. A dark tunnel could be seen behind it, and Xyliana froze. In all the times she'd looked over the palace blue prints, she couldn't recall ever seeing something like this in the garden. Unnerved she looked around at her companions. ”I mean...do we? Should...we?” Lydia asked, only a moment before growing too impatient to wait and stepping through the doorway, with Tzillah following close behind. Xyliana snorted, pawing the ground in frustration. "Wandering into uncharted territory without instructions to do so, with the empress's conparis no less, does not sound like a brilliant idea!" She hissed. "We haven't prepared anything and have very few tools among us, in what way does this sound like a good plan?" The mare asked, looking first to the other geminus and then to Faris, desperately hoping the pegasus would see reason. Word Count: 261 Post #5

The tunnel gapes before you. The door flickers, threatening to return to stone, and realizing that your chance may soon disappear, your group quickly enters the tunnel in full. The door becomes solid stone once more, and you are plunged into darkness. For a moment, the dark is so cloying, you have no idea which way is up and which is down. You begin to follow the wall and come to a crossroads. Someone steps on another trigger-stone and a ball of light flares to life and illuminates a panel in the wall. “Go forth with faith or turn back before it is too late.” The smaller inscription states that they stand at the mouth of the Princess’s Maze. Choose left or right.

”I couldn’t agree with you more, But I don’t want to leave them alone, in case there is something.” Faris's voice was light as Xyliana watched him follow the others into the darkness. "Seriously?" She asked, utterly exasperated but unwilling to leave them alone with their rash and impulsive ideas. Quickly trotting in after the others, she felt the doorway solidify behind her only a moment after she'd passed through. Irritated, she snorted loudly, huffing as she followed closely behind the others. As her natural bioluminescence began to glow, she tried to take in her surroundings, only to realize the glow didn't go beyond her. It illuminated her shape and form, but the darkness surrounding her was almost unnatural, engulfing every bit of her light. This was ridiculous. From up ahead, she heard a click, as if something was moving into place before a bright light came to life, illuminating a strange plaque sitting between two pathways. She froze, her body tense, ready to leap into action if needed when she heard one of the mares speak. "Well that’s cryptic.” Lydia's voice broke the silence, making Xyliana clench her jaw. Of course the younger mare wouldn't read it alloud.... Straining to see the plaque from the back of the group, she could only make out the largest part of the inscription. “Go forth with faith or turn back before it is too late.”
It was un-nerving to say the least, and she was less than pleased. It was already too late to go back, and whether or not the doorway was meant to close off before they arrived at the cryptic panel or not, she found it to be a cruel sort of irony. Xyliana pinned her ears flat against her skull as Lydia spoke once more. ”Your guys’ call. What way?” "Our call?" She hissed through her teeth. "As if you actually care to take my opinion into account. My call was to avoid this ridiculously foolish and potentially dangerous venture altogether! But here we are, dragging the empresses's conparis into Cascade knows what just because you all are to curious to wait for permission." She huffed, brushing a stray hair away from her face with her teke. Harsh as it may have been, the last thing the herd or the empress needed right now was an international incident, and if something were to happen to Faris, that is exactly what they would have. None of that seemed to matter to the others though, and the thought frustrated her greatly. If these were the types of equines typically chosen as their leader's body guards, it was no wonder the late Emperor Hawkeye was no longer among the living.... Word Count: 452 Post #6

Tzilia | Geminus | Mare
The soft sounds of Faris and Xyliana joining them vaguely registered at the back of Tzilia's mind, but her main focus was elsewhere, shifting across the expanse of walls that she found herself surrounded by. Questions sprung to mind as quickly as she could pay them any heed; Who had built this place? Why had it been built? Was the Empress even aware of its existence?
Her eyes strained, yet she was still unable to make out anything in the overwhelming gloom. The echoing of each of their hoofbeats rang in her ears, but within her chest her heart and breath hitched with anticipation. Who knows how long it had been since someone had been down here; clearly the entrance was hidden well, and it seemed unlikely that anyone would go through such trouble to hide it unless it was worth it. Somewhere at the back of her mind she knew she should be concerned about how they would get out after their exploration was done; but it seemed difficult to worry about with the adrenaline fresh in her veins.
Tzilia found herself nearly stumbling immediately into Lydia, a click followed by an almost blinding flare of flame alighting from the wall across from them. And there, written in scrawling text, was apparently their instructions, in addition to the name of this place; The Princess' Maze.
Xyliana's outburst broke the mare from her gleeful examination of the script, and with a slightly dumbfounded expression she turned to regard the mare. Her concerns were valid, and some helpful part of her mind quipped they were likely even wise, but it seemed they were too far gone now to return. Whatever door they had activated appeared to have disintegrated once they had passed through, and if she was being perfectly honest, her mind was itching to know whatever secrets lay beyond that maze.
"I think our only choice is to keep going," Tzilia replied, desperately attempting to keep the excited tone from her voice. "If it's a maze, it should theoretically lead somewhere."
"Right?" she questioned the rest of the party, her gaze turning towards the right pathway, hoof straying forward in a single step.
