Hello Starborn, and welcome to Aodh Plot 604: DeviousTeam Leader: Sydney Participants: Cin'ciri, Pel'ciri, Ruby, Maebella Date: April 9th, Noon Please keep the following in mind!- Posts must be a minimum of 175 words. There is no maximum!- No strict order is enforced, but there must be at least two posts between your own character's.- No god-moding or reading characters' minds (unless your pony is a literal telepath, anyway) - Always get consent before harming another character!- Your team is precious. Try to interact with everyone. <3- Have fun! Even if your pony isn't. 8'DPrompt: It’s a hard knock life for a scoundrel! Good paying jobs are hard to come by and often dangerous. Sydney has gotten a request to lift a fancy looking egg out of a merchant’s stall by a noble who wasn’t very fond of giving their name. It’s probably just an heirloom that got pawned by someone or other’s embarrassing illegitimate child that is proving difficult to be bought back. Anyone can understand the lower class wanting to hold something over on those stuffy nobles, right? Still, pay is pay. And since the merchant's stall is pretty well-guarded, this little scoundrel will need to recruit some distra- friends.

◄ WHEN THE RICH WAGE WAR, IT'S THE POOR THAT DIE Sydney Scoundrel | Transmale | Aodh
Generally speaking the young brat liked to have as little to do with Aodhian nobility as he possibly could, but money was something that surpassed all. Even morals. So the promise of a heap of shards had driven Syd to forsake his hatred towards the nobility and muster up the courage to try and nab some precious replica. One little distraction, a quick swipe of the goods and he'd be set with enough money to coast him through months. He could already feel his stomach distend with all the food he was going to eat with his fat portion of the pay. The wiry youngster had already made a pass by the stall in question, trying to survey the situation. Just like his employer had warned, guards lurked close by, eyes keen for any ne'er-d-wells that might want to get rich quick. But Sydney was already well prepared to handle any dim-witted sellswords. The boy had a plan, and surely it would be fool's proof. Even if it wasn't, it was unlikely that he'd mourn the loss of whatever poor soul he convinced to help him for too long. The hefty payday coming his way made sure of that. Now the red horse was hunkered down in a small ally just off the market road, not too far from their target, but far enough away not to draw attention to himself. There was little more for the boy to do than wait- and hope the perfect distraction crossed his path. -- WC: 266

Cin'ciri|Aodh|Commoner
Cin'ciri rushed along the sides of the stalls, running ahead with his brother and farther from their assigned sitters from the day they, by some trade of hooves that Cin neither paid attention to nor really cared about. One moment they were eating breakfast with Aunt Moonrise over, and the next moment, they were being taken out to the market by some other horses that one of their aunts said to go with, or something. Cin really wasn't paying attention, that was normally Pel's strong suit, Cin's strong suit was being the "joy to the darkness that covers the world" or whatever it is that Auntie Ev calls him after playing in her forge all day only to spread ashes over Mama's kitchen.
Not that any of that mattered now to the young kirin, as he shifted from stall from stall, looking at the fancy things that they were selling. None of them were as awesome as the weapons that Auntie Ev and Moon made in their forges that they were not allowed to play with, but this was the fancy side of the market, where all the horses were all dressed up fancy and there were guards places and the like. There just had to be some super cool stuff here that he and Pel could play with. Maybe even they could convince their sitters to buy them a new toy or something while Mama was away doing doctor things in the far away sand place.

Maebella | Commoner “Cin’Ciri! Wait!”
Freshly manicured hooves clicked against the Gilded Bridge as Maebella quickly gained on Cin’Ciri.
“You must stick with Ruby and I!” she cried over the deafening chatter of the crowd, reaching out with her teke to gently grasp onto the young kirin and pull him close to her. “If we stick together, we’ll have so much more fun! You don’t want to leave your brother bored without you do you?” A warm, genuine smile blossomed on her lips as she tried to persuade the colt to wait for the rest of their group.
Maeby didn’t mind doing favors for Lady Lilith. The Lady was generous with her pay, but was also her best friend’s mother and a high ranking Aodhian. Which left Mae little room to refuse the request. Not that she would, the filly was more than happy to help a family friend. Although, she must admit, when she learned the foals she would be looking after were not Lilith’s children, but the children of a commoner … relief swept over her. To call Cirilla’s siblings a handful was an understatement. Each and every one of them was a whirlwind of destruction with a near limitless supply of shard and protection at their disposal. She cared for all of them, but it was draining to look after them.
Teke still wrapped around Cin in a comfortable (but restraining) hug, she peered through the crowd as she waited for Ruby and Pel to weave through the shifting mass of horses. The Gilded Bridge was crowded as always, stalls packed with glittering wares and the streets bursting with meandering patrons. It would be easy to lose a foal here and Mae was grateful that Ruby and her were able to focus on a single foal each instead of a small shoal of them. She hoped she would be able to get some shopping done herself, but seriously doubted it.

Pel'ciri | Commoner | Baby
Unfortunately for Maebella, Pel'ciri didn't stay behind for long. With a happy, carefree giggle, the little dark colt raced by her, quickly catching up with his brother. He turned when Cin'ciri was restrained by the babysitter, leaning on the kirin and pushing his head under his chin in a nuzzle, blinking innocently up at her.
"Yea, it's more fun when we're together!!" He beamed, pulling his head away. "So I'm gonna stay with you..." Pel lowered his voice to a whisper, shifting his weight nervously. "Miss Ruby scares me." Should he be saying that to her? But she seemed so nice. Maybe it was okay.
He quickly regained his confidence though, racing around Maebella once for good measure. Pel had never come to this part of the market, and he was already loving all the shiny things on display. He wanted to check them out more closely, touch them and see if they were toys, and he would have if he had been with Mama or one of his Aunties, but he wasn't, so... He was trying not to. Trying really really hard. Maybe just once... No. Not yet?
Stopping in front of her, beside his other half again, Pel'ciri looked up at the pretty mare with excitement. "Miss Bella," he called, because Maebella was a long name and he couldn't say it right, "This place is so fun! Can we see some of the thingies closer? Please!"

Ruby | Commoner
Irritation welled up in the teenager as they moved through the crowded streets. It just wasn't fair! Here she was, stuck babysitting, of all things! And it wasn't even her own siblings, whom she could pawn off on another sibling. No, it was one of her mom's friend's kids or something. Ruby didn't really care to pay attention to who the brats belonged to. She'd much rather spend her time elsewhere, anywhere else honestly. With Sapphire.
The absence of her twin was uncomfortable and made her anxious. Which meant she was going to be cranky and moody all day, Gods help anyone who minorly inconvenience her. The only saving grace was that Maebella was also with her. Really though, Maebella was probably the only one actually watching the twins, if Ruby were by herself, she likely would've lost them twice over by now.
Not that it would've been her fault.
One of the twins- the one covered in scales- was being overly rambunctious and darting from one shop to another, much to the consternation of Maebella. The teen watched as her curly haired companion desperately tried to keep the twins together, yanking the one back with her teke, as the other one scuttled up beside her. It seemed the kid was smitten with Maebella. Thankfully, neither of the kids seemed at all interested in herself, she'd likely end up snapping at one of them if they annoyed her. Ruffling her feathers as the kids bounced around tirelessly, Ruby followed dutifully, waiting for the time she could drop these cretins back off at their home.

Cin'ciri|Aodh|Commoner
The small kirin gave a small indigent squeak as Maebella pulled Cin close to her. Cin attempted to wiggle out of her teke's grip as Pel joined the two at the stalls.
"Miss Ruby acts weird." Cin said, looking around to find the other sitter before sticking his tongue out at her, and continuing to wiggle out of Maebella's grip. He didn't want to be stuck here so close to where any of the adults could stop him before he discovered the best parts of the markets, all of the sharp toys that they could play with. He finally pulled himself out of Maebella's grip, falling over right onto his twin, tumbling over into a pile of chaos.
"Yeah!" He shouted, attracting the attention of everyone nearby, as he stood next to his brother. "Can we see some of the really cool things closer? Not the boring things, like the glitteries shinies, but like what Auntie Ev and Auntie Moon make in the forge! You know the sharp things that you can swing around like swoosh swish swill!!" He exclaimed, bouncing around and acting out how he believed weapons should be used, basically just jumping around in a circle.

Maebella | Commoner “Oh? Miss Ruby is really quite nice, you just have to give her a chance.” Mae said to the twins, adding Pel to her embrace. Soon enough though, the rambunctious colts fell into a pile of limbs and Mae was having to help pull them both back up.
“Yes! Let's go look at some fun wares. You’ll have to promise to ask before you touch anything though, but I’m sure we can find lots of exciting things. Maybe we can even find a toy store or two?”
As it were, Maebella knew the whereabouts of quite a few toy sellers.
One was just down the way and sold marionettes made of yarn. They had a variety of animals and could puppet them quite convincingly, which Mae thought the twins might enjoy.
For now however, she would walk with the foals close to the stalls so they could look at the different array of goods and trinkets until they reached said toy stall, hopefully without further incident.
“Unfortunately, I don’t think your mama or aunts would be very happy with you playing with weapons, but the toy merchant might have some child friendly ones you can play with.”

Pelciri - Commoner
Pel'ciri giggled and nuzzled miss Bella, before falling into a pile of laughter besides his brother. Today would be so much fun!
"A toy store?" Pel asked. Sure, he and his brother had some toys at home, but they always had to share them with Marcello and Cyrene. And much as Pel loved his cousins he really wanted a toy that was his own. And this was the fancy part of town, so he'd get an extra special one! Maybe. It'd at least be fun to play with one, right?
Cin'ciri interruped Pel's daydreams, and the little colt felt his excitement. Oh yea, the swishy ones! Mama and their Aunties never let them play with them. Maybe miss Bella and miss Ruby wouldn't mind! Much to his disappointment, though, Cin barely got the words out before Maebella said no. Pel didn't understand exactly what 'child-friendly ones' meant, but he at least got the idea that they'd get to play with them. The colt quickly jumped in front of his brother, sensing that Cin'ciri would complain - after all, he'd probably want to play with the actual swishy... weapons, he thought? But hey, one type of toy was better than none. So, Pel'ciri pushed his head under his twin's muzzle, effectively shushing him. "Sounds great!" he called to her. "Can we go now?" Pel paused, remembering Mama's words. "Please?"
Pulling away from Cin, Pel'ciri trotted towards were the slightly-scary pegasus was standing. She didn't look so happy. "Miss Ruby, do you wanna come and play with us? Miss Bella said she's taking us to a toy store!"

◄ WHEN THE RICH WAGE WAR, IT'S THE POOR THAT DIE Sydney Scoundrel | Transmale | Aodh Lurking in the shadows of an ally certainly wasn't how Sydney like to spend his afternoons. He lost track of how much time he had stood around waiting for the right horse to pass him by- at one point he had grown so painfully bored he struggled to stay away. But money. It was the perfect incentive for the young colt to stay moderately aware of his surroundings. A few heads bobbed through the crowd that caught his attention. His ears shot forward and the roan slipped from his shadowy hide away to trail after a gaggle of children and their obviously exhausted guardians. Children were the perfect distraction. They were noisy and obnoxious and completely guilt free if they got caught being tied up in anything nefarious. The only obstacle was convincing the kids to play along and getting past the brats babysitters. But Syd was surely witty enough to talk his way past a couple of girls. (Or at least he thought he was.) With his tail flipped over his flanks, the colt boldly trotted his way through the crowd. Dodging around the bodies of much bigger horses until he found himself in step alongside one of the babysitters. She was shorter than him. Her mane was fair and curly and any other day Sydney might have been a stuttering mess at the thought of talking to some pretty girl. But he had a payday waiting for him and that gave him all the courage he needed. Sydney side-eyed her the shorter zorse for a moment before he worked past the knot in his stomach, "Kids can be such pains, but you're really good with them." he complimented, trying to appear sympathetic with her and pretend that he wasn't some dirt covered street rat.

Maebella | Commoner Maeby noticed Sydney sidle up to her, but hadn’t thought him more than a fellow market goer browsing the stalls. Momentarily eyeing Pel as he skittered over to Ruby, she realized Sydney was addressing her. Looping a teke arm around Cin to make sure he didn’t run off again, she offered the teenager a little more than half her attention.
“Oh! Well…” she glanced down at Cin and briefly considered that he probably didn’t appreciate being called a ‘pain’. “They’re just trying to have fun and don’t know any better, really.”
She gave a meek shrug and smile before turning her attention once more to Cin, having assumed that Sydney had only wanted a brief friendly exchange of words. The stall in front of them held bejeweled mirrors, brushes, and combs. Lifting up a decorative hair comb, she told Cin’ciri to stay still and smoothed back his short mane, slipping the comb in. The jewels twinkled in the midday sun and matched the kirin’s scales. Gingerly picking up a mirror off the same table, she held it in front of Cin to let him see his reflection.
“Wow! Look how pretty and fancy you look! The gems even match. What do you think Cin?”
The shopkeep eyed the comb in the foal’s hair nervously, but Mae kept a light teke on it so that Cin couldn’t run off with it. She would replace it on the table once they were done with it.

Cin'ciri|Aodh|Commoner
Cin had now decided he didn't like these sitters at all, especially not now that this one wasn't even distracted by someone else who was talking to them! That was supposed to be rude or something Mama said once during breakfast when Auntie Ev decided everything else was more important and Auntie Rita feel asleep at the table again, Cin wasn't really paying attention to what Mama said. Pancakes had been far more important.
Like how exploring was more important now, and not playing with a hair thingy. Cin started squirming around more in Belle's teke, attempting more to escape her grip while he created small embers. "No no no no no no no no no no." The small child said, now more wanting to get to his brother's side. "I don't wanna! I wanna play with the swoshy things, not the glittey things!" Cin wasn't even paying attention to how his temper tantrum was probably garnering the attention of everyone nearby, or to anything really.

Pel'ciri | Commoner | Baby
The little colt trotted around miss Ruby, going as close as to touch her wings with his muzzle. The feathers tickled Pel'ciri's nose and he sneezed. Having wings seemed fun- but really, Pel was glad he was a kirin. Even if his scales hadn't grown yet. Or his antlers. He was sure they'd show up any day now... Even if his Aunties and his Mama didn't let him play on the fire like Cin did, they at least let him sleep in the forge with his brother. They'd wake up aaaaall covered in ash, it was fun!
Still. Having wings would probably have been cool too.
He turned when he realized Cin'ciri wasn't following him, and found him held in Miss Bella's tekele- telikene- telenikese. Right! Knowing Cin wouldn't like it, and maybe a little afraid of miss Ruby again, Pel made his way to his brother's side, nuzzling him as he cried. Even if he loved Cin, Pel'ciri also felt a little sad. The glittey thingy was pretty too! Pel would rather miss Bella had put the glittey thing in -his- mane.
"I like the glittey thingy..." He murmured, not looking at anyone. Cin's cries had his eyes tearing up as well.

Ruby | Commoner
Scowling at the little kirin, Ruby bit back some rude words after he said she acted weird. She most certainly did not act weird, she simply did not want to be stuck babysitting two tiny twerps when she could be doing literally anything else. However, the other little one, the Pel-something, trotted over to her and asked if she wanted to play. At least this one was polite, even if he was a little odd.
Her attention towards the kid broke as she noticed some gangly teen approached Maebella, tail flipped skyward over his flanks as he sidled up next to her fellow babysitter. Something seemed off about the stallion, and though she couldn't hear what he said to Maebella over the street noise, he seemed friendly enough. But still, her gut was telling her that he was trouble.
Before she could go over and tell him to scram though, Pel nuzzled her wings and she automatically ruffled her feathers, puffing them up slightly causing them to tickle the kids' nose. A smile graced her face quickly as he sneezed before trotting back towards his brother, who Ruby realized with disdain was about to have a complete meltdown over something. Making her way over to Maebella and the wailing kid, Ruby shouldered her way none too gently between the stallion that had been talking to Maebella, and Maebella herself. Pointedly flipping her own tail, she side eyed the stallion before looking back towards Maebella and the two kids who were both now starting to cry.
"Dear Ignacio, if you shut up, I'll buy you your own 'swoshy' thing. Pel, if you like the comb, and you both behave, you can get it." Thankfully, she had brought some money and she wasn't above throwing some money away if only to make these two not throw a tantrum. As long as the kirin didn't cut himself or his brother on whatever she bought him before handing him back off to his guardians, she would consider it well worth it.

Maebella | Commoner “Well that’s okay if you don’t like it!” Mae exclaimed, shocked by the embers that appeared with the foals tantrum. Quickly she took the comb from his hair (albeit a bit disappointed he hadn’t like it) and began to replace it with the mirror neatly upon the seller’s table. As she did so, however, she managed to catch Pel’s quiet murmur. Again she lifted the wares off the table and turned to the twins, her smile and enthusiasm renewed.
Carefully embedding the comb into Pel’s mane this time and once the comb had been set into place, she held up the mirror for the foal to look at himself. It crowned the colt’s head like a tiny glittering tiara. Ruby, irate as ever, burst between Mae and the stranger, jostling the teen and causing her to stumble to catch herself. She recovered as Ruby proclaimed that the comb would be bought for Pel if the twins agreed to be good for their sitters.
“Isn’t that kind of Ruby to offer to buy this comb for you?” she cooed sweetly at Pel'ciri, “If you and Cin behave yourselves, then you two could match all the time! These gems could be your own personal scales to go alongside your brothers! Until yours grow in, of course.” Whispering the last part, she winked and then slipped the comb from Pel’s hair. Requesting for it to be set aside so that they may return to it later, Mae handed the hairpiece off to the merchant who hid it beneath the table with a nod.
“So if you’re good all day, we’ll come back and get you that comb, Pel. Until then though, how about we find those 'swishies'. How does that sound Cin’Ciri?”

Cin'ciri|Aodh|Commoner
Cin's tears started to dry up, and he stopped sobbing as Mrs. Bella took the comb out of his mane and put it on Pel's, as his twin commented softly about how pretty it was, seemingly perking up as Mrs. Ruby said she would get him a swoshy thing. Finally, as he had been asking Mama for as long as he could remember, which had to be around the start of time itself. He gave out a couple of small sobbing hiccups as he tried to catch his breath from the fit he had thrown, which, if he was being super honest with himself, he knew Mama (or even Auntie Rita, and maybe Auntie Ev) would have been really upset that he started crying, but it was for important reasons. Swishie swoshies were a super important reason.
"Yay!" The small kirin exclaimed after getting his breath back and noticing that Mrs. Bella had put the glittery back. He was about to run ahead when he finally noticed something, well someone that hadn't been there when he started throwing a fit, or more specifically when he last actually was paying attention to their group. They didn't look like anyone that he knew, though the list hadn't been very big.
"Who you?" Cin asked the other equine, squinting at him.

Pel'ciri || Commoner [Baby]
It was decided: Pel'ciri liked miss Ruby now. She tickled his nose and bought him the glittey thingy! Well. Would buy.
The colt beamed at miss Bella, turning past the weird new guy who was besides her to see his reflection on a mirror by the big horse who was selling things' stand. His smile got even bigger when she mentioned his scales. "I know!" He called, a bit more loudly than normal, but Pel loved to wonder about what he'd look like when he was bigger. "I won't be able to use it after my ant- antlers grow, but maybe Mama can find a way, Mama likes to play with my hair even though she says it's never stays still, like me!" He giggled. "I hope my scales are white like Cin's. Or red like fire! Or black like Aunty Ev's! Or orange like Aunty Ev's! Oh oh, or blue like Mama's!!"
He rambled on while Cin'ciri got a lot happier about getting his own swishy thingy, and only when Maebella took the glittey thing off his head he stopped. Looking at his hooves, he beamed at her and at miss Ruby. What was that thing Mama always told them to- oh. "Thank you!" His smile turned shy, and because he was embarrassed and miss Ruby's feathers were tickly and Aunty Rita always said they were super cool, the colt couldn't help but pad under one of Ruby's wings as if it was an umbrella, laughing at how it covered his body.
He had just peeked out from between some of her feathers when Cin called to the strange stranger that was next to miss Bella. "Yea!!" He tried to look menacing, but it was probably hard to do that with feathers framing his entire face. Didn't keep Pel from trying though.

◄ WHEN THE RICH WAGE WAR, IT'S THE POOR THAT DIE Sydney Scoundrel | Transmale | Aodh A deep scowl finds the colt's face when a second filly forces her way between he and the first. His ears press flat against his skull at it takes a moment for him to collect himself. Money, he reminds himself. Syd sucks in a calming breath, tossing his head higher, a smile forcing it's way across his visage. "I have an idea, ladies." he starts boldly, eyeing the pair of fillies before glancing to their wards. "Why don't I distract these bra- kids for you for a little while. Let you enjoy the market." he grins, picking up his hooves to trot ahead of them for a moment. Kids certainly weren't a favored thing of his, but a plan had formed in the back of his mind when he'd seen the gremlins. If he could rope the girls into it, then the egg- and the shards were as good as his. His eyebrows raise, casting another look to the girls, "Well..?" he presses, trying to replicate the smoldering grin he'd seen older stallions use on mares.

Maebella | Commoner
Maebella gave both twins’ manes a friendly tousle and was about to move on when Cin addressed the stallion beside them. Quirking a brow, Maeby gave the colt a better look over than she had before. Why was he still here, hanging around a couple of teenagers and the kids they were sitting? She supposed he could just be looking to make friends, since he seemed about the same age, but his false smile made her doubt this. He offered to watch after the children for them so they could shop … and alarms went off in Mae’s mind. This colt had some ulterior motive and she certainly didn’t think he had the children or the teens best interest in mind. Protectively, she tried to keep herself between the twins and Sydney, but kept her typical polite air about her.
“While that’s very generous of you, I don’t think it would be very responsible to just abandon our job when a fun opportunity presents itself.” Her ears perked and she quickly added, almost aside to the twins. “But I’m not sure what could be more fun than shopping with you two!”

Pel'ciri | Commoner - Baby
The strange horse didn't go away though. Pel'ciri had noticed him of course, but given that he didn't know him and Mama always said that he shouldn't talk to strangers, Pel let Miss Bella do it for him. But now the stranger had wanted to stay with them alone? Mama always said these horses were weird and other, bigger words Pel couldn't remember. Either way, the little colt didn't like him. He frowned at his twin, not sure if Cin'ciri had noticed it, as he seemed very excited about getting a swooshy thing. The idea of the stranger stepping closer to his brother was what spurred the colt to step away from Miss Ruby, ignoring whatever attempts she might have made to hold him back, and stepping up besides Miss Bella, her chest touching his neck as he peered around her.
"I don't WANT to stay with you! Mama says not to! I wanna be with miss Bella and miss Ruby and Cin!" He huffed, wishing he could make fire happen like his twin to scare the strange horse. "GO AWAY!" Pel'ciri shouted instead, so he would understand.
Truth is, the little colt was terrified of this horse he didn't know. Turning his head, he buried his face in miss Bella's chest. "Can we go now?" He asked, words muffled by her fur.

Maebella | Commoner Mae Immediately placed a comforting teke over the foal’s shoulders.
“Yes! Yes, of course. Let’s get going then, we have “swhishies” to look for after all.”
Sweeping the twins away from the Scoundrel with an ushering magenta glow, she flicked a knowing glance at Ruby.. “Please leave us alone, Sir. Have a good day.” she said somewhat harshly. He had given her a bad feeling and it seemed as though he hadn’t made a good impression on the children or Ruby either. It was her duty today to keep these colts safe and comfortable, so she would listen to her gut. Beginning to talk to the children about their day ahead, she spoke in an overly loud tone to draw attention to herself. People began to turn head to look at her as she noisily passed by. Maebella knew that when they were in the spotlight, the Scoundrel wouldn’t dare go after her or the children.

Pel'ciri | Commoner - Baby
Pel wasn't sure if the stranger had left or not, but miss Bella seemed to agree that it was best to move away from him too, which Pel'ciri liked. The colt stayed close to miss Ruby, partially hidden under her wings because he felt safe there, but as the stranger disappeared in the distance, Pel stepped out and quickly forgot the incident, feeling as happy as he had been when they started walking around with the two older mares.
It was a fun day. Pel and Cin played with swooshy things, and the owner of them made some really weird faces at them- was he scared? There was nothing to be scared of! Cin really knew how to play with swooshy things, even if the did end up cutting a few strands of the owner's tail hair.
Still! It wasn't so bad, since he seemed to have gotten a fancy-but-not-real swooshy thing and looked happy. Pel'ciri didn't notice it much since he was too excited to have the glittey thingy miss Bella and miss Ruby got for him! He was so happy that they did decide to go back for it.
All in all, apart from the strange stallion, it was a really, really fun day. Pel'ciri hoped Mama would be home soon! He had to ask her to ask aunty Ev to ask lady Lily to ask miss Bella and miss Ruby to spend time with him and Cin'ciri again!
