The cool chill air in Nariah's caverns was always pleasant, Riviera had always thought so. Her morning walks in the always cool air were the driving force for her when she woke, her treks to and from Argus' temple always needed to be pleasant before she started her work and more often then not they were just that. The spotted mare had risen early like usual and was quick to bathe and dress before rousing her son, once all that was done she made her way over to the temple, purple cloak and hood pulled up around her head and shoulders. The expensive fabric was her mother's choice... the mare had essentially forced her into buying it from herself... though she did think it suited her quite well both in fit and in colour She shuffled her wings as she made her way up the temple stairs, pausing halfway as an odd tremor suddenly rattled up her legs. 'Strange...' she thought to herself, looking back over her shoulder and out at the city. The last time she felt those tremors the floor inside the temple cracked and weirdness ensued but this time it just felt different. She was startled when the ground shook more, this time more violent causing her to skip backwards and talk to the air with afew powerful strokes of her wings; moments later a huge chunk of stone crashed to the ground and shattered right where she had been standing, she sent off a silent prayer to Argus in thanks before all her attention was turned back to Nariah It started with dust and small rocks but as the tremors grey stronger huge chunks of stone crashed into the ground, crushing homes, schools and various other buildings and sadly her innocent violet eyes watched as a young mare was smooshed under one. The mere sight made her sick to the stomach and unsteady on her wings... and she was quick to look away, her gaze however was drawn further along when afew huge stones fell right near where her house wasn her heart sank and all she could think was one word, 'Ari!' The frightened mare raced towards her house and what she found caused her to drop from sky, her wings ceasing to function at the devastation that had been wrought. Her house was in splinters... all that was left was chunks of wood and a huge stone where her home had been. She lay in the dirt where she had crashed, tears spilling down her cheeks as she just stared at it, "ARIII!" she cried, her high pitched and shrill voice that of a heart broken mother. For all she knew her son had been crushed.

It all started out to be like a normal day. Tenebris was up before, the assumed, dawn and going over his inventory of loose leaf tea and spices, and then started to prep for his shop opening. Once satisfied the teas were steeping properly, he left his small shop to see if his family had started rousing in the Inn. Poking his head into one of the wooden hallways, his ears twisted about, listening for any signs of life. At first, all he heard was the snores of patrons in their rooms, but soft hoof steps caught his attention and soon his elderly grandfather came into view. “Ah, Tenebris...you’re up early,” the older horse started, his pale teke holding a small cup of freshly brewed tea.
“Grandfather, you could’ve at least let me make you something…” Tenebris started, before Senritsu cut him off.
“Now, now. I’m not that old. I can still take care of myself,” the older horse chuckled and then looked as if he remembered something. “Don’t worry about me, get on with your day.”
Tenebris let out a soft sigh and nodded, smiling to himself. He went back to his shop, which was attached to the Inn, and looked around. He wouldn’t be opening for at least another hour or two, and leaving the tea to steep a little longer would only strengthen their taste. He figured now would be a good chance to go to the nearest temple and pray to Argus for a successful business day.
The streets were starting to become lively as others woke to start the day, and Tenebris could see the temple in the distance. He eyed the other worshipers ahead, pride swelling to see many equines going to pray to their deity. Just as he was about to take a step up to the temple, a rumble echoed throughout the cave. Tenebris paused, as did others around him. His heart quickly sank as cracking sounds followed. Looking up, fear soon took over his expression. The barrier above them had shattered and rocks started to tumble down onto the city.
Jumping away from the temple as a rock crashed feet away, Tenebris started to turn and head back towards the Inn. He had to get back, he needed to get his family to safety. He tried to ignore the screams of panicked equines, and looked upward once more to see another large boulder coming down. Letting out a scream of his own, Tenebris slid to a stop just before the rock crashed into the ground, just barely getting him.
The force of the crash knocked him back and for a second Tenebris thought he had been hit. With a groan, he slowly got up and looked around. Chaos surrounded him as many were fleeing to the temple for safety. Shaking dust off his coat, Tenebris realized the boulder than almost hit him was blocking his way home. ‘Crap…’ he thought, before a scream caught his attention.
“ARI!”
Turning on his heels, Tenebris saw where the scream had come from. A spotted pegasus had crashed into the ground near a pile of rubble, what he assumed was once her home. Pain ripped through his chest at a sight, and he felt the need to go to her. Within a few bounds, Tenebris was at her side.
“Miss...it’s too dangerous to be out here. We need to find cover!” he said, his purple teke reaching out to gently touch her shoulder. “If you’re injured, I can carry you to safety!”

KanoGaurd of Briem
It was a peaceful and productive morning. Kano had roused himself from his bed and proceeded to get ready for the upcoming day. Upon his time spent in the common area of The Watch's quarters, he was able to raise a few of the other members' spirits. Kano managed to receive some laughter from those that had taken the night shift and were making their way to their rooms for some much-needed rest. The beige stallion wished them well and began to make his way out of the palace and into the already bustling city of Nariah.
Typically he would have said a quick prayer to the Argus shrine that was placed in a secluded area of the common area for the Watch to use; however, Kano was trying to make an effort to visit the Argus shrine at least on a bi-weekly basis. Today, seemed like a perfect day to do so as his shift at the palace gates would not be for another few hours. It would also be a treat to see a certain mare afterward, if she was there and if he had time.
It was when Kano was only a few yards away from the temple steps, that the ceiling above Nariah cracked, showering large chunks of stone to its unsuspecting citizens. In a blink of an eye that the peaceful square burst into chaos. Horses, dashing to save themselves and their loved ones as stones crushed anything that was in their paths. Kano's head reared back followed by his body, narrowly escaping a boulder. Only one name flashed across his mind, repeatedly.
NICHOLA!
He shooked his head, clearing his crazed state. He had to do his job, serve his herd. He did not have time to find his girl, he had everyone else's safety to worry about.
'Argus, please see it that those I love are safe.' The single prayer quieting his worries and doubts. His purple eyes narrowed as he looked for those who needed assistance fleeing this disaster. Most horses were fleeing the area, helping those who stumbled or fallen. Their screams drowning in the sounds of large booms. Kano's eyes locked onto a pair of horses. It seemed one was sympathizing with the spotted pegasus whose house was destroyed. He felt drawn there so he made his way over to them, fighting against the crowd and rocks that slammed into the earth. The young stallion managed to arrive.
"Terrible weather we are currently having." He half-joked. Giving a curt bow of the head to the two, he continued more seriously, "May I be of assistance? We need to find a strong shelter quickly."

Riviera ached all over, her body shaking slightly under her purple cloak. Her pain wasn't her focus right now, all her focus was on the Rubble that was once her home... her son was home when she had left this morning and just seeing the remnants tore her heart in two, "ARIII.. Ari..." she sobbed, trying to collect herself to her feet. Her head snapped around as something nudged her shoulder, her ears swiveling back as she barely registered the words spoken to her. "My son is in there!" she nearly screamed in desperation, struggling her hardest to try and get to her hooves... but her back legs just refusing to work Tears streamed down her cheeks in waves, her eyes focused on the young stallion before her. She knew there was nothing she could do deep down but her heart screamed at her to try... just to see if Ari was in there and alive. She wanted to say more to the stranger but she didn't have a moment as another joined them, offering words that made her stomach drop and tears grow even stronger, "..Y-You think that this is a j-joke?.." she stuttered out at him, trying to stand to face him better, "My son could be dead!! How- why are you joking about this!?. This isn't a joke", she stared at him in shock, her violet eyes wide. She shook her head before quickly turning back to Tenebris, "...Please help me get to my son... please"

“Ari...Ari…”
A name. Someone close to her?
“My son is in there!”
Tenebris’ eyes grew wide in shock as he looked from the distraught Riviera to the rubble and mess. Had the foal, he assumed Ari was of such age, even had a chance to survive?
It wasn’t long before another had joined them. Tenebris glanced towards Kano as he approached, though he couldn’t help but give the guard a stern stare. Now was not the time to joke about anything, especially if this mare’s house was just destroyed with her child inside of it. But, the proper gentleman in him forced Tenebris to return the head bow, though it was short and to the point. Before he could reply to Kano, Riviera did the job for him. His heart was full of pain hearing her distress and he sympathized with her. His own family could’ve been in the same situation further down the road, but he wouldn’t be able to find out until this whole event ended.
She almost had it easier…
Clearing his throat, and forcing the dark thoughts away, Tenebris straightened his posture and looked to Kano. “We need to get to the boy. If we can save him, the time is now. He might’ve been lucky enough to be caught in a pocket and if so, he has a chance. Let’s do this before the next wave of aftershocks comes and makes our job harder.”
Tenebris then looked to Riviera. “Please stay here and try to gain your strength. We will do our best to save your son. Keep an eye out for falling rocks for us.”
With a quick nod to the guard, Tenebris started towards the rubble, reaching out with his teke to find loose stones and debris. He had to be careful to not dislodge pieces that would cause an avalanche because if he did that would not only injure himself and the others, but Ari would definitely be crushed. It would’ve been better to start from the top and work their way down, wouldn’t it?
Looking back to Kano, he figured the guard would be of better shape for such a task. “Do you think pulling from the top would be better?” he asked.

What he expected to be a few chuckles and some renewed spirits, only turned out to be anger and frustration towards him. His ears flattened, taking a step back, as the mare's words burned at his skin. Followed by a disapproving stare from the other stallion. Riveria was justified too, this was no place for a joke. Yet, Kano had never thought it was appropriate or not when the words left his striped muzzle. The young stallion felt even more guilty when he found out that a young colt was in the house when it had collapsed.
He bent his head low, "I-I deeply apologize. You are right - this isn't time for a joke." The apology would have to be short. Kano made a mental note, that when this was all over he would help the mare find a new home, buy flowers, and help with other errands to repay for the added distraught he caused.
Kano lifted his head, turning it towards Tenebris - listening intently. "The sooner, the better." He concurred shifting his weight, ready to do what was needed to save Riveria's son. His attention shifted to the pile of rubble, trying to see where the beams where being held, making note that those crucial parts should not be disturbed in any way. His purple eyes flickering as he analyzed the situation. Half-hearing what Tenebris instructed to the mare, Keno moved a few pieces of rubble trying to get a better view of the interior of the pile. To no avail.
'Crap'
"Do you think pulling from the top would be better?"Tenebris question lingered in his mind. It would be the slower route, who knows what kind of state the colt was in and how long it would be before the aftershocks would begin. It was the safest option; however, as without really knowing where the strong materials that are holding up all the other debris, one false move from the side could cause great destruction. Part of Kano wanted to jump in and take the risk - save the boy sooner; but, it was too risky. Even for him. "Yes, I can't see the beams that are creating those pockets. One wrong piece pulled..." He trailed off, glancing back at the spotted mare. Getting to a better position where his teke would reach the top, he began lifting the pieces of the broken home and setting them aside.

Riviera was too distraught and needy to accept the stallions apology, she didn't need that right now or Jokes, all she needed and wanted was to see her son alive. She shifted into a sitting position with her legs splayed out awkwardly to one side, her heart pounding in her ears as the both of them made their way up into the remnants of her home. She'd made so many good memories there with her family, later nights with Ari as a foal, the poor thing having temporal convulsions late at night. All the stories she had told him, the sweet and gentle touch of her Husband during those long nights... those memories were all here though there were some made here she'd rather forget and for a brief moment she didn't care about the loss of her home, her heart went out to her son who was surely terrified and wounded as he waited for her to save him She hid her coloured face under a veil of long white hair as she was instructed to stay put and rest, told to watch out for falling stones for them... she could do half of that she was sure but she still wanted to try and get in there and help. If Ari didn't see her face when he was found she was sure all his faith in her would have been gone, "Please save him!, please" she sobbed quietly, not even sure they could hear her. She did listen to their conversation as best she could but the cracks and screams further away obscured the lot of it and she was forced to lift her head a little and peer at their lips from where she was... not that she knew what they were saying. It was then that she remembered her familiar, the twin tailed Nekomata that had adopted her many weeks ago... her lips twitched as she thought of him, he would have been at the Temple, waiting for her like he always was when she flew over... atleast that was some good news

With the two of them working, Tenebris was sure they would be able to get to Ari in no time. He was glad that Kano apologized to the distraught mother, though she seemed to either not have heard him or chose to not respond and ignore the apology. He couldn’t really blame her as it did leave an awful first impression of the guard, but he could over look it for now. If the situation had been different, Tenebris was even sure he’d get a small chuckle out of the joke.
He jumped back as a small piece slid his way, grabbing the beam with his teke to slow it down. Tenebris thought he heard Riviera say something, but when he looked back in her direction, she seemed to be deep in thought. It was probably best to let her be until they found any sign of her son.
In the next moment, he would regret that choice.
Tenebris helped Kano lift a heavy piece of wood to the side when he noticed something. “H-hold on…” he started, trailing off as he slowly made his way up to join Kano on some of the debris. In the distance the sounds of those dealing with their own troubles faded as Tenebris laid his eyes on a sight he had hoped to not see.
Blood.
Not a lot, but enough to suggest Ari was injured. There was even a tuft of hair sticking out from under one of the rocks that had demolished the house. Tenebris looked to Kano, then down to Riviera. “Should we….tell her?” he asked, not wanting to jump to conclusions. “For all we know...we could be getting closer to Ari…”

Kano did not expect anything from the mother. Why would he? So it did not bother him when he left to climb the pile of debris without a single word from Riveria. He continued lifting stones, splinter wood, and other broken items, setting them down to the side. He tried his best to keep his mind on task, not letting it drift to darker thoughts. Is his family safe? Is his family's home destroyed? Precious items now destroyed? It is with such dark thoughts, that it was a relief to think about much light-hearted things while moving the debris. A particular memory came to mind. The academy was increasing the teenaged horses' ability to lift heavier items, strengthening their teke. He was thankful for that now.
Though the training wasn't enough to lift this particular piece of wood. It was quite heavy and difficult to manage. Kano gave a slight dip of his head of thanks when Tenerbis aided in his struggle. Both horses seemed like good people. Maybe they could become friends in the future. This disaster strengthing their bond, some adventures to tell their young.
He snorted as the dust cloud they were creating enter through his nostril unexpectedly. He waited as patiently as he could when Tenebris ordered him to wait, flickering to the hole at the top they were creating. He didn't seem to notice until he took another look. His stomach lurching slightly at the blood, even more so at the bit of hair. This day just keeps getting better. Kano turned his head to the side, as Tenebris reached him. All the noise seemed to fade into the background as Tenebris asked on what they should do.
His eyes peered down to the spotted mare, he was silent for a few long moments, before looking back at Tenebris and then to the blood and back to Tenebris again. "No... We will not go down there without Ari - we might cause unnecessary harm if we go down and tell her what we found." He paused, not even sure if that was the best course of action. His teke glowed around the rock where the tuft of hair pulling at it slightly, "Help me with this." Kano half-asked, half-order as he began to pull the rock out from the pile.

Riviera had only been half paying attention as she thought about it all, the safety of her husband and Familiar, the helpful stallion helping to search for her son... and her poor baby's crushed body. That last thought flashed a painful image across her vision and she recoiled in disgust, he was her only child and yet her mind just seemed to wander to the worst thoughts possible just like it did whenever her husband was late home or her son tripped and fell... she skipped to the worst conclusions and this time was no better Her head was quick to snap to attention when loud cracks overhead forced her into alert mode, she forced her ears and eyes forward and for a moment she was dismayed by what she saw... at first Tenebris looked back at her... the Kano did... after that the two turned back and exchanged glances. The words they spoke were lost to her ears over the screaming and falling of stone but she could have easily sworn atleast one of them said Ari. Ari! Had they found him?, was her son alive!?. She used all the strength she had left to even force her legs to move, they wobbled like that of a newborn for afew steps but once she got them moving they were moving She had just about made it up the from steps of her home when a sickening crack filled her ears, this one was louder then before and her stomach dropped as she realized just what it was. Another rock. This one alot bigger then before from the sounds of it... right over where all three of them were!. Everything around them seemed to move in slow motion in that instance, the spotted mare flared out her wings to their full extent and flapped them down hard, pushing herself up and backwards in one quick movement. At the same time her lavender teke engulfed any part of her companions it could grab, Kani by his tail and Tenebris by the length of his mane, with one swift pull she flung them backwards and put of danger, her wings beats just quick enough to thrust her out of the way of the stone as it crashed into the last one, sending huge shards and chunks splintering around them The dust was choking as it settled around them and the stone shards had managed to clip away afew pale feathers and give Riviera a deep gash above her eye. She'd been thrown by the force of the rocks impact and once back on her hooves she stumbled back towards her home, her teke searching out both stallions as the above really began to clear. The mare's violet eyes grew wide at what she saw... there was no home left, the roof, the walls and even the stairs had been destroyed by that last big stone and her son... her son was most surely dead. Sobs started to choke through gasped breaths and a fresh wave of tears rolled down her stained cheeks, it was now and official, her son was and goner and she couldn't do anything to save him. She threw her head back and screamed in agony, a pained hollow cry that was the heart of a mother. Breaking. "AAAARRIIIIIIIII! ARI!... ARI!", she cried out helplessly. Her wings sagged at her side and her blood mixed with the tears of her loss. Her heart was broken this day and there was nothing anyone could do to fix it, she had lost her whole world in just a Second.

Regardless of the rocky start they had gotten with Kano, Tenebris could see he had a good heart. The two of them had made a good team with removing the debris and now with such a dilemma on their hands, Tenebris was happy to have another’s opinion on the matter.
“No…”
Tenebris listened to Kano’s suggestion, avoiding more unnecessary drama was best. They didn’t need Riviera to suddenly have a heart or panic attack and then they would have to abandon their search in order to care for her, and probably lose Ari. Keeping his eyes on the job, Tenebris went ahead and started to help Kano with the rock. It was heavy, and definitely wasn’t going to budge easily. Pinning his ears back, Tenebris focused all of his strength on the top of the boulder, his teke shining brightly.
He was so focused, he didn’t hear the warning cracks of another rock losing its grip on the cave ceiling. One moment he was trying to move the original boulder, the next something was pulling at his mane and pulling him away from the task at hand. He let out a surprised cry, his hair being pulled was not comfortable in the slightest, and found himself on his back, away from the now completely demolished home.
Coughing as dust entered his lungs, Tenebris rolled over onto his side, his mane a mess and out of its hair tie. He knew he was going to have a few bruises from his landing, but otherwise he was unharmed. Coughing out the last bits of dust, he looked back at the house, eyes widening. Could Ari have survived that? As he was taking in the tragic sight, he could barely hear the fresh sobs from Riviera. That was, until she screamed.
“ARRIII!”
Jumping from the sound, Tenebris looked to the distraught mother, who was now bleeding from a gash over her eye, and his heart sank. Was there any hope left? With a huff, Tenebris was back on his hooves, shaking the dust from his coat and looking for Kano. Riviera needed medical attention with that gash, and from the looks of it Ari was definitely not going to make it now if he had been alive. But, something was just making it hard for him to give up. Ari had to be alive, or they could at least find his body to give Riviera some form of closure.
“K-Kano…” he started, another cough escaping his lips. “She needs medical attention...I’m worried about that cut getting infected. If only I could get to the Inn and get my mother...she’s a healer. If she could watch over Riviera, we could at least look for Ari’s body now that…” Tenebris couldn’t bring himself to say it. He could barely look at the house.
The problem with his plan was the way to the Tea Tree Inn was completely blocked off as well.
Worry for his family crept into his chest again, but Tenebris willed it away. They were fine. They survived the fires, they would survive this.
“What do we do now?”

As he began to pull on the heavy boulder, not waiting for Tenebris to join in. Would the stallion join in, or ignore his declaration and go with his own gut. Both outcomes were quite possible. He made a rather unfortunate impression and both horses were substantially older than him. He just graduated from the academy for Argus' sake! Maybe in Sterling, age would not be such a heavy influencer, but this was a place of Umare culture. Age, matters. Kano let out a sigh of relief, when he saw the glow of Tenebris' teke attach itself to the rock. Together they pulled and yanked at the rock. Kano put his whole body into it, ears back and his muscles bunching up as he pulled. His hindleg's straining as they barely moved the rock.
He too was blinded, as the large boulder began falling from the sky.
Kano let out a high pitch scream when his tail was pulled hard, unbalancing him and throwing him out of harm's way. His body took most of the fall down the slope of debris, he would definitely feel that in the morning. His lungs felt deprived of air, causing him to cough and wheeze, slowly regaining his breath. He was fairly certain that he was fine besides some minor bruises and scrapes. The young stallion lied on the ground for what seemed liked eternity. Maybe if he closed his eyes, he would wake up and this all was a bad dream. Everything around him was numb, he barely heard Riveria's cries or Tenebris getting up to look for him.
'ARRRRRRRIIIII!'
It was another cry from the distraught mother. One that reached his ears, and made it's way to his noggin. He got up with a start, scrambling to his hooves. He turned around looking for the crying mare to be faced with Tenebris. He attempted to calm his nerves as Tenebris explained the situation. He listened carefully, trying his best to think of the right solution. His eye's looking at Riveria's gash, to the broken house, to Tenebris, and the ground.
'What do we do?'
How the heck he was supposed to know... He didn't. He had no idea, he was at a lost for words. His heart wants him to go the pile and get Ari, but Riveria needed medical attention right away. What to do. What to do. He tried to think what Nichola would do, or any one of his superiors. It was then that Kano's purple hues locked on Riveria's hair ribbon.
Approaching slowly to the mare, his teke reached out and removed the hair ribbon from Riveria's hair; ignoring Tenebris for a few moments
"Riveria, I need you to hold still for me. I'm going to use your ribbon to stop the bleeding and protect it from any more damage." He only waited a few moments, before proceeding to wrap the ribbon around the gash. He began to speak again while performing the task, "Tenebris, this should buy us some time to get to Ari; let's not waste it."
