Try to interact with everyone. <3- Have fun! Even if your pony isn't. 8'DPrompt: It is spring, and despite the ever present clouds in the sky and the raging storm over the Wilds, it is once again time for the annual Qotoki migration. Those of you not witness to the Defender's promotion are instead wandering the city streets admiring the wares and entertainment being played. The clouds grow more ominous though, and it feels difficult to focus entirely on the Qotoki, as beautiful as they are. Location: The streets of Inaria Time of Day: Early evening Current Weather: Cloudy and thundering This thread is open to all characters in the Talori Faction! You don't have to register to join in!

❀ L Y D I A ❀ "We weep for what we don't have." WC: 285 | Post 1 Lydia had always been one to never miss the annual migration of the Qotoki. Most of the time, it ended up being a family event over the years, she never once got the pleasure to celebrate the time by herself. Her family slowly moved on and out on their own, but she was always stuck with at least one. Instead of being sad about being on her own, perhaps like some might, she felt entirely grateful. It was exactly she’d been working on and towards over the last few months.
Perhaps there was better places she should be spending her time, especially at the moment, but she, much like many other Talorians, couldn’t resist the draw of the event. It was special and respected for many reasons. She’d always looked so forward to the colour and joy of the days, especially as a foal. Her enthusiasm wasn’t quite different. She wouldn’t really call the Quotoki beautiful, but they were bright and exciting, even as an adult. It really was a good time to relax and enjoy the afternoon.
But the streets seemed to have a damper placed over them, rumbling storms rolling in from the coast. She kept her gaze over at them, trying to ignore them. And remember the joy she should be feeling. Yet the closer they got, the less she was able to enjoy anything about the afternoon. Surely she wasn’t the only one, but it really was quite depressing.
After all, the Qotoki and thunder didn’t seem like a good omen.
As that thought struck her, she found herself moving off to the side to take cover, hoping to stay out of whatever was coming if she rushed home quick enough.

E H A N I The cremello mare walked heavily through the Inarian streets, wings tucked tightly to her side by impulse. She hadn't quite been used to them being accepted now. At least, by law. Things had been so... hectic as of late. Tegan was gone, as was Othala. Her kind had made a leap in the eyes of the Talori, but it still felt that the battle had just begun as her family ripped apart all over. Her heart had been so heavy as of late, thundering like the clouds above her. She didn't understand it. It seemed with Empress Thalassa in power, and pegasi becoming equals, that things would have gotten better.
She prayed the Wave Mother would heal the wounds with time.
She had ventured outwards, away from home and away from the shop to come watch the Qotoki migration. It was a highlight of Talorian tradition. How could she keep away?
But the air was heavy as the beautiful mare watched the bright and exotic creatures mill through the crystalline waters, usually bright blue now dulled by the darkening sky. Should she continue to watch? Or should she go home to the family that remained under her roof. WC: 204 | Post #1 SaveSave

Daksh;Talori | Redeemer Memories, shards in my chest. I remember. I remember. I remember.
Life had still been rather.. odd. He was not used to this acceptance- no matter how little it was. He found he still received stares, but he had also met those who were compassionate towards the pegasi- and now they were more open about it. Of course the stares could also be because he had but a single wing. If Daksh was being honest, the hardest part was trying to accept himself in the new views of Talori. He had grown so used to holding his wing tucked to his side, despise running rampant in his mind. That would be a process that would be even more difficult than his peers accepting him. He had been working on trying to extend his wing more- just trying to have it in a more relaxed position. But there was so little muscle and it hurt. He had not been expecting the pain when he tried to do anything but hold it tight to his body.
Right now, Daksh still held it close. The vibrant blue shone off his body and weighed him down more than anything. Wandering the streets of Inaria made him self conscious- but he had the day off. He wasn't sure if he was glad of it or not, as it was the Qotoki migration. The pegasus had never made much of an effort to come to the migration in previous years, but his old mentor had urged him to go this year, and so he had.
It honestly wasn't a really nice day. Clouds loomed overhead, and thunder sounded in the distance. It seemed as if the clouds would spill over at any moment, dumping their weight into the streets of Inaria. He stood in the middle of the street, head craning upwards as he observed the sky. He noticed that many other horses were going to take shelter, but Daksh could not pull himself away from watching the skies. If the storm set loose- then so be it.

❀ L Y D I A ❀ "We weep for what we don't have." WC: 279 | Post 2 Ducking off to the side did little to keep her dry; there was only so much covering she could get from small outcrops in the streets, nor did every place around seem to even have them. Walking between, she got soaked pretty quickly - so much for staying dry. She’d have to worry about drying off her clothes and fabric when she got back home.
In a bit of admitted defeat, the hippocampus stopped dogging from outcrop to outcrop, reverting to walking down the street in a hurried walk. She did like the water - but she preferred when it was on her own volition and not because it was pouring down with thunder accompanying it. She let out a dramatic sigh to herself. So much for enjoying the migration.
Lydia had to stop in her tracks when she looked up, only to be greeted by a pegasus in the path. He was just…standing still not doing anything. She gave a soft huff in disbelief - Pegasi. A closer look showed that he even only had one wing; couldn’t even go through the whole thing could he?
She ignored any further displeasing thoughts in her head, trying to clear them. She cleared her throat. They were supposed to treat Pegasi with at least some respect - according to the laws. So she couldn’t outright show her thoughts. Instead, she did her best to look put together, walking up to the Pegasus. She cleared her throat when she got closer, to announce her presence. “You should get home and out of the rain - you’re just going to be hurt standing here.” And a tripping hazard. She didn’t say that.

Daksh;Talori | Redeemer Memories, shards in my chest. I remember. I remember. I remember.
He flinched when a voice sounded close to him. His head swivelled, eyes blinking away the rain. Daksh took a step back as he realized it was a hippocampus who had spoken to him. His mouth opened as if to speak but then he closed it quickly, head lowering a bit, as did his gaze. The pegasus seemed to shrink in on himself a bit in the presence of the other horse- a hippocampus to add to it. He knew he should have expected to confront other horses, as this was a public celebration, but he had thought none would speak with him.
She said he should get home, and he knew to read between the lines. Knew what she really meant. He was in the way, distracting to the general populace as a pegasus. He had no place here in the city, and no reason to participate in this event. He nearly cringed at his own thoughts. "I'm sorry- I just thought-" No, he couldn't speak back. He couldn't tell her that he thought he would be allowed here. That would be silly and he'd just be scorned.
Daksh tried as hard as he could to grip his wing tighter to his body. In his distress he felt his blessing flicker, a light ripple as intangibility spread but stopped. He wasn't strong enough with it, and couldn't do much. But it was there and feeling that flicker almost gave him a new breath of air.
Cascade had gifted him this. She had thought him worthy of something, and so he lifted his eyes to the hippocampus in front of him. Things were supposed to be different now. "I don't mind the rain, or the storm, so much."

❀ L Y D I A ❀ "We weep for what we don't have." WC: 288 | Post 3 Lydia started to shuffle her hooves after the first second of silence. Then she stopped herself and gave a huff just under her breath. There was no need to be impatient, despite the rain and the storm - keep her straight face and well mannered self. Thats what he parents would have said. Foolish.
She snapped her head up when the pegasus stammered and ended his sentence before he said anything intelligible. She gave a very soft huff at that; wasn’t a surprise. He looked rather meek and afraid; probably of her. She wasn’t sure why - Pegasi were often so flighty. It was kinda annoying. Yet he then insisted he was fine and basically that he wasn’t going anywhere.
Lydia shook her head and gently nudged him with her shoulder. She didn’t think how that was rude; it didn’t count towards them. She shook her head at him again, giving another sigh. “The rain is one thing, but a storm is brewing. You’re putting yourself in danger by staying in place.” No matter how insecure he was, that was a still a stupid choice. He was also a tripping hazard, hiding in the middle of a path as other horses were running away to get out of the rain. “Lets go,” it was a light order, “you’re not helping anyone staying here.” It came out a bit harsh, she wasn’t sure why she was putting so much effort into this, but by now she couldn’t turn away. But she did take a few steps, gesturing with her head for him to follow. “Come on.” That one was more gentle. She gave a weak smile over her shoulder, “before we both get sick and burden some Clerics too.”

Daksh;Talori | Redeemer Memories, shards in my chest. I remember. I remember. I remember.
Daksh took a step back as she nudged him. It hadn't be hard, but he still felt his shoulder flicker with his blessing at the contact. He wasn't sure if he wanted to go- even to the side of the street. But the hippocampus was becoming persistent. Why did she care so much where he stood? She probably thought that he shouldn't be here.
When she mentioned the clerics, well that made him nearly smile. There was nothing a cleric could do that he couldn't. He had learned under one, and was now a redeemer. The only cleric he would probably burden (as he felt he always did) was Corr, but he didn't think he'd get sick.
Shaking his head, Daksh started to follow her. "I'm a redeemer so I don't think a cleric would be necessary." He wasn't sure where she would be taking him. He would have to go home eventually and there would likely still be a storm overhead, so it wasn't like he was avoiding anything. "The rain will keep going you know." Daksh felt himself getting a bit braver, especially since the hippocampus didn't seem overly disgusted at the sight of him.

❀ L Y D I A ❀ "We weep for what we don't have." WC: 307 | Post 4 Lydia was quick to roll her eyes when the stallion continued to ignore her prodding. Her contact and obvious right reasoning seemed to go blank on him. He remained completely in place. She had to sigh at herself, as light as she could. Probably audible to him, she didn’t care. Pegasi made no sense. This one wasn’t any-more so than the others, if not worse. He had half his wings and half his senses, too. The poor horses that had to work with him, may their poor souls be luckier in their next lives.
But then, he actually took a step. And moved. She let out another sigh, this time in more of relief than anything else. She was just about to abandon him, but he seemingly finally came to his senses. “Then shouldn’t you know to stay out of storms?” she replied. Her tone was sharp, it was meant to be more of a lighthearted jab but it came out a bit too pointed. She didn’t seem to notice her own bite, shaking her head as she continued to finally start to walk again. She gave a shrug at the exclamation, looking pretty apathetic. “I know, more reason to stay out of it. It can only get worse from here. No migration is worth risking your own life to see.” She gave her tail a flick and continued to walk a bit faster. “Stick it out where its safe,” she looked back over at him. It was an offer to leave her side now that he was moving again. She was a Geminus, not a Guardian. She was meant to protect the Empress, not civilians, but part of her was taking pity on him. But she couldn’t walk him back to his home, out of the way in a storm, ands he had no intentions too.

Daksh;Talori | Redeemer Memories, shards in my chest. I remember. I remember. I remember.
He continued to follow the hippocampus, eyes continuing to flicker to the sky. Storms like this stirred something in his blood- something he couldn't quite pinpoint. "A little rain really never hurt anyone." He gave a small shrug, fluffing out his feathers to try and keep dry from the rain. Even that action felt strange- foreign. His feathers had always been something to not touch, not feel.
He shook his head at the mare's words, finding it nearly foolish the way she felt about the rain. "For a fish you really don't like water." He asked it almost as if it were a question, but it was a statement. He would think as a hippocampus she wouldn't mind the water, but Daksh seemed to like the rain more than her.
When they got under cover, Daksh could tell she was nearly brushing him off. It was foolish to think that a horse would want to spend any sort of time with a pegasus. He sighed, gaze going to the ground, and muttering under his breath. "Is there really any place safe for a pegasus?"
He turned to walk away, disappointment settling in his chest once again.

❀ L Y D I A ❀ "We weep for what we don't have." WC: 319 | Post 5 He continued to protest, saying something about rain never hurting anyone. She rolled her eyes, keeping ahead of him so he couldn’t see. She did shake her head, just a little bit. No, rain never really hurt anyone, but it wasn’t rain. It was a storm; they were a big difference.
She basically stoped acknowledging him, until he remarked about her not enjoying water. She stopped, giving him an dumbfounded look. She waved her tail back and forth, the only sign of her offence. Lydia gave a soft hmp, before swallowing. She wasn’t supposed to snap at horses, least not Pegasus any more. So she forced a salty smile, ”I adore water, when I choose to be in it, that is.” She turned her head away, to stop giving him attention, still lightly offended. But the small amount of pettiness grew, enough to make her turn her head back to him, with a frown. “And I’m not a hippocampus, I’m a hybrid.” Her stomach coiled, battling between the nature she’d been taught and the pettiness sitting in her stomach. The pettiness won just long enough for her to use her teke to move the broach covering her third eye, at least for a second. Then she turned away, with a huff. She felt the shame wash over her in a second, heard her own mental scolding that resided in her mom’s voice. But she didn’t let it show externally. It was a secret no one really came to know, except strange Pegasi, apparently.
She blinked, surprised, by the final question, a frown sitting on her face. “Cascade seems to think so,’ she huffed, before watching him walk off. That left her frowning in amazement - really? So she did the same, turning away, pettiness only growing as she started returning back to the palace. She felt a bit hollow, all of a sudden Everything had just ended too abruptly.
