Twitch | WF Farmer AKA The Cabbage QueenThe southern forests in spring were full of the gentle buzz of life. Twitch, on most days, would have loved jaunting through the woods at this hour. Alone, using her blessing alone to guide her, just her and Kaia's earth. She sighed wistfully. If only that was why she was out here.
Instead, she was chasing Newt's scraggly dog with the twins close behind... hence the frustratingly slow pace. Somehow, Twitch managed to keep her foot in her mouth. She didn't want to aggravate the situation further. "Can't you just, I dunno, whistle for her or something?" the mare grumbled. Twitch liked Marci, she really did. She liked the dog better if it stopped chasing her chicken this far south. So this was how the twins and Twitch were spending their morning. Odin, Twitch's owl, had attempted to look for the dog and chicken, but returned tired and empty-taloned. As a rule the little owl couldn't go far from Twitch, his handicap making it hard to navigate in woodlands. So he bobbed haphazardly on the top of Twitch's head as the group trekked on.
Twitch could feel all sorts of vibrations with her blessing, so it was no surprise that the ocean's waves on the shore was included in that list. The feeling on her hooves was strange, and she didn't recognize it. Perturbed, she slowed to a pace (one that was probably more reasonable for her two friends, honestly). In the distance, the crashing sounds of the water created white noise. "What is that?" Twitch breathed.

"Can't you whistle or something?" Newt snapped too quickly at Twitch's voice, "you're the one who says she can 'talk to animals', anyway." they shot again with an irritated glance. One a bit too intense for their mild situation, but they'd been on edge lately, and this reaction was growing, annoyingly, quite common. Cricket merely let out an exaggerated breath at the bickering, and continued to stare absent-mindedly at his two front-feet as they trodded over forest ground, only straying from his focus when he felt Newt inhale a large breath.
"MAAAAAAAAARRRSSsss...!" They bellowed from their chest for at least the fifth time, but this time, particularly close to their brother's ear, and it made Cricket jolt. "Y-you're too loud!" He swung back into his twin's space with a good yell, something that only earned a pouting face riddled in mockery, and it made Cricket's freckly ears fall backward in annoyance. But with another huff, Newt soon fell back into similar silence.
Their dog was usually pretty well behaved, but Marci had her moments-- or too much energy to say the least. Newt wasn't particularly worried, considering the mutt always seemed to turn up around their ankles if they waited long enough, but they did suppose fetching Twitch's stray chicken was only fair. "Ya know, I wonder if she caught that chicken and then--" but their attempt to stir the pot was cut off as Twitch's attention shifted elsewhere.
Neither of the twins could catch the same sight as their friend, and it almost seemed limited compared to her growing blessing. In turn, it took a moment for them to adjust. Newt's ears shifted forwards through a recently trimmed forelock, but they quickly concluded that 'it was nothing'. Cricket's head cocked sideways in an over-the-top attempt to aid his hearing, but took a few moments for the gears to truly turn and then break apart evidence.
"I-I don't kn-know what it i-is." He said in his usual stuttering voice, but one more lifted as Twitch fell closer in stride with them. "It s-sounds like wa-water." He corrected.
Newt merely pursed their features at this conversation, but their head quickly jolted upright as they heard a crashing sound booking from their left side. It wasn't long before Mars collided with their legs, a thumping tail and perky eyes smiling up at them in greeting.

Cosmos;War-Forged | Stone Circle if you wish to move mountains tomorrow, you must start lifting stones today Today was one of those strange days for Cosmos. A rare day in which he felt motivated enough to get out of bed himself instead of sending a duplicate to do work for him. Hira for the most part hadn't minded, so long as he was still doing his job well enough, she let him be.
On this occasion he had been set with a serious task alongside two others of the Circle. The situation was certainly unique and his interest was piqued to the point he wanted to go with full attention. He looked at his coworkers for the trip and had a hard time deciding whether to speak or hold his tongue. They were relying on rumours for this task which always made Cosmos feel uneasy. Rumours could come from anywhere and with trouble simmering, the unicorn found it harder than ever to trust anyone.
With the guide of a Scout they found themselves coming up close to the problem area. It was then that voices caused his ears to prick and swivel, it didn't take long to locate the sources and Cosmos groaned. Youngins. And by the looks of their appearance and the smells that wafted, farmers. Finding that they were too close to the area, Cosmos didn't dare raise his voice too loud for chance unwanted figures were lurking. Instead he came to a halt and waited for one of the others to decide how to proceed. icon by Artistic-Pineapple

Wolfe | War-Forged | Stone Circle Post: 1 WC: 266
An exasperated sigh left the large stallion’s mouth as the assignment to make a voyage down to the Breimian border was handed to him. He was not too thrilled about the idea of being so far away from his very pregnant wife. If she were to fall into labor and he miss another birth, he wouldn’t hear the end of it. Nevertheless, he had a job to do. The complaints of the disturbance were rather odd, coming from some lowlander farmers and herders. With the taste of war on the tip of everyone's’ tongue, immediately Wolfe’s mind raced to the thought of those tunnel dwellers being at fault. He diligently accepted his quest and headed out.
With a sword hitched to his side beneath one of his civilian furs and Brigh, his pygmy gryphon, so loyally padding along, Wolfe travelled close to his stone circle peers. Every so often passing glances to them followed by small talk of the business at hand. It wasn’t long that they were interrupted by the sound of children, a familiar noise that drew the stallion’s attention. His ears swivelled, with head following suite. He cocked a brow, curious as to what they were doing all the way out here. Kids run amuck, sure, but this far south without being of vagabond origin was fishy.
“Hey!” He quietly called out, approaching the band cautiously. They looked familiar, but not enough to pinpoint exactly who they were, so Wolfe took all precautions. “What are you children doing out here?” His voice questioned in a manner that oozed authority but was still conversational.

Kalyan | Breim Healer
It was difficult for Kalyan to reason through what situation disturbed him more - the strange rumors Providers accounted of a disturbance in the north, or the reality that he had been enlisted by the Royals to help investigate the claims. A visit from a stranger was always worrisome - often when it happened he was overtaken by wild thoughts that a watch member had overhead him speaking ill of the Umare. Rather, it was always only a patient who needed his services. And so when the Royal summoning came, it had only been his sheer disbelief that had kept him from descending into a paranoid spiral. Eventually he applied logic and sorted it out. They needed a horse who knew the surface well and could provide aid if anything went wrong. And while he doubted he could refuse the summoning, he did not want to. He spent his life looking for adventure, within moments of disorder, and this had more than piqued his interest.
The only part that worried him at all was his traveling companions- what was there to say to a royal and a consul? They were worlds apart, and he felt a strange bitterness that he seemed rough and ill-mannered to them. Even as traditional as the providers were, certain subtle niceties of his culture were convoluted by life upon the surface. Kalyan was only aware of this upon traveling with two horses from Nariah, and two of the higher order no less.
As they descended deep into the Skytop forest all other concerns gradually abated. The trees loomed above them and as at the wind whistled through their branches it sounded as if they were whispering ancient secrets, warning them of what was to come. Kalyan was torn between a sense of wonder and longing to explore the woods. Ears pricked in interest, he heard disturbance before he saw it- He paused, alarmed, and voiced his concern aloud, "Do you hear that odd sound?"
His hoof sank into the mossy forest floor, and startled he looked down to see a very thin layer of water pooling round his hoof. Where had the water come from?

Raja
Ears twitched as the branches snapped beneath the party's hooves, the emptiness of the forest echoing each movement and breath. Raja laid a cold blue eye on Kalyan, a scoff holding steady in the back of his throat. The Providers were always a rouged folk, their manes tossled by the breeze the flowed off the Vastlands. Unkempt would have been a polite word for it, for the least they could do was make themselves presentable in the presence of their superiors. But it didn't matter. Trekking through the forest was not a glorious task in itself and the Royal stallion loathed the fact that he had to be the one to stick his hooves in the mud.
"How much longer until we reach the border?" Raja's collective voice bounced off the forests dark wood. His gaze shifted from Kalyan to Elrohir as he subconsciously rebalanced the saddlebag the weighed on his withers. "I take it you have traveled this way enough times to know where we are going." He did not like traveling blind, it was beneath him as a Royal. Raja had always found pride in his knowledge of everything he participated in but here, on the surface; well it was one place he had yet to feat.
"We have heard of the disturbances in the forest. The Providers have stated that the wild Devil Birds have become more restless and aggressive as the night falls. It has become so much of a problem they claim the harvests are declining. With the herd relying so heavily on their production nowadays, well, we cannot have that can we?" There was another glance at Kalyan, as if seeking confirmation of these facts. Surely he had lived on the surface long enough to know.
As if on que, the guggling of stalled water touched their ears; a quiet yet audible distress. As their steps furthered towards the source, the ground began to squish with liquid and the foliage smelled of rot and decay. Whatever was amiss here, it was no good.

Twitch | WF Farmer AKA The Cabbage QueenTwitch hummed at Cricket's answer, perplexed. She was torn away from her confusion when Marci made a reappearance, jolting a bit at the sudden thundering feet. Odin nestled deeper into Twitch's matted hair, one eye watching the dog nervously. "There you are, mutt," Twitch sighed, "Now, where's my chicken?" she accused in horse-speak.
But before Twitch could question the dog in it's own canine tongue, a new vibration and voice perked up. The little mare shrunk just a hair at the deep voice of Wolfe, hiding her already small frame behind the twins. She shuffled the crossbow on her back nervously. She didn't respond to the stranger's question. Instead she scrunched her brows and evaluated the new arrivals. Even from this distance, Twitch's blessing was more than strong enough to sense the fine details of their beings, even down to the rate of their heart (an ability that Newt themself was not fond of). The group was way more horses than Twitch could handle. She 'watched' quietly.

newt & cricket
Cricket's neck arched in a way similar to Newt's as they both peered down to Mars' return, but Cricket's head soon shot back upward at the sound of voices, brown and blue curls tossed frivolously. He stiffened at the new arrivals, new and unfamiliar, with hyperactive ears straining to catch an extra sound, but by the time they stepped close enough to engage contact, Newt was already swiveling their forehand to push their brother out of the strangers' direct line of vision. Twitch falling behind their figure was only a blessing they wouldn't admit.
The stallion that stood before them was massive, with wings only seeming to duplicate his size, and a deep voice dripping authority; slight intimidation forced Newt to clench their jaw when they managed to glare back up at him. "We're not children." They corrected quickly with a bitter voice, an ear flicking backward momentarily in possible regret. They didn't move, but their gaze was beginning to shift next. What were the odds they'd run into others out here? And why did they need to be bothered? It made them nervous, especially by each of the strangers' powerful appearance. They didn't know enough of Hira's politics to decipher these individuals as part of the Stone Circle, but if they were Oneaians, it didn't take Newt long to peg them as sitting among higher ranks. An observation that failed to heightened their perception of them.
"We don't need to tell you anything!" Newt barked with another must of courage, this time stepping forward as if to continue on their way past the strange encounter, the twins' coal colored hooves digging into the ground with the start of a few limping steps. "We-we're j-just looking for our ch-chicken..." Cricket's humble voice muttered quietly in subtle reassurance, but Newt's forward march and louder-than-needed, "C'mon, Twitch!" quickly cut him off. Yet without paying too close attention, they merely started back toward the already proclaimed direction of disrupted water.

E L R O H I R Male | Consul (War-forged) | Briemian Royal
Long sturdy legs cut into the softening soil of the ground beneath him with each step. After all the times of coming this way, the Royal blooded equine could not shake the disgusting feeling of mud coating into his small feathers and sucking at his frogs. He prided himself on looking clean and presentable, but more often then not this terrain always changed that. With a small snort, head tossed riding the trees from clawing at his horns. "Yes, yes, Raja. We are almost there. Kalyan you haven't run back home yet?" His voice was strained but he tried to put forward a small jest to brighten the mood. Any mood. As the sun set he could feel his own mood plummeting. "Raja I am... A bit curious why we didn't have the Watch come with us. Is it because you think the Equines of Onea would know the forests better then us?"
With a sucking noise and a wetness that made Elrohir's hide quiver he looked down to see the ground much softer and moister. "The boarder should be right around here at any means. This is the worst part of the trek." Tail flicked, his purple ropes speckled with mud and dirt. Oh how he would need to do so much washing when he finally got to his destination. Yet as Elrohir's voice faded he swore he heard another's and lifted his head to look around, halting the party. "Did you both hear something just now?" Voice dropped to a hushed whisper.

Kalyan | Breim Healer
Kalyan took his time to answer, pondering over what Raja and Elrohir would like to hear compared to what was closer to the truth. What had the Providers said when they first brought their worried cries to The Point? Each had buzzed with separate frightening tales- telling of an ancient tree ripped from the ground, its roots clawing at the sky as if drawing a last breath. Swearing upon Devil Birds that filled the forest with shrieks of malice as they dove upon frightened travelers. And... bemoaning, barely able to name it, of sickness and decay. Any crop present around the forests was grew thin and twisted, providing only a paltry meal.
So lost in thought, he took another few steps absentmindedly and recoiled at what his hoof touched- the spindly form of a dead bird floating on the shallow water's surface, hardly older than a few weeks. Its feathers were thick with water and its head forced around to bend backwards.
"Whatever we find out here I don't know if the Watch is the right kind of solution." He murmured, still loud enough for his two traveling companions to hear. He gestured at the nestling with a flick of his short tail and then paced towards Elrohir to stand besides him, grimacing as the growing muck stuck to his hooves. For a long moment there was silence beyond the flow of water, somewhere and then- there it was, the distinct sound of speech, of separate voices growing and softening.
"I can't think of why anyone else would want to be out here. If they're our own kind.. perhaps they've gotten lost." Kalyan responded bluntly, and then without a moment's hesitation, started towards the sound, glancing back at Elrohir for guidance towards the border. He shouldered past the thicker brush, and then halted abruptly at the view before him- the land ahead fell away into a muddy, crumbling bank upon which water writhed and seethed, pooling into the forest as the bridge kept it at bay.

Cosmos;War-Forged | Stone Circle if you wish to move mountains tomorrow, you must start lifting stones today The Stone Circle stallion was pleased with the way his coworker dealt with the farmers, it was firm, but still gentle. Although Cosmos did start thinking otherwise as one of them began to talk back disrespectfully. Standing a little taller, Cosmos took a step towards the kid, daring him to say more. When it boiled down to a missing chicken, Cosmos let out a deep sigh. He would never understand children.
Concentrating, he peeled off a duplicate and approached the quiet child hiding behind the unusual twins. "I can help you look for the chicken." His duplicate offered to the farmers.
Meanwhile his regular self strode closer to their destination where he began to hear sounds across the way. He grunted and strained his eyes to try and catch the culprits. "I think we have company." Ignoring that for the moment, Cosmos walked closer to the edge where his hooves began to delve into Kaia's earth. Looking down into the damage, Cosmos noted that normally the water was calm, but now it had an urgency to it. Cosmos was not one to run headfirst into conflict, so he remained to assess the earth and let his comrades deal with whatever was coming. chalk by Artistic-Pineapple

E L R O H I R Male | Consul (War-forged) | Briemian Royal
The air around here was definitely strange. The feeling here was much more eerie, much heavier then Elrohir had ever come across. Of all his travels between the two herds... He felt his own hide crawl as the dead bird nearly under Kalyan's hoof floated in the water. Head shook, trying to calm himself down. After all if his own anxiety and fears got the best of him it would only rub off on the other two equines as well. With a breath, listening to the soft chime of his own jewelry on his horns he started after Kalyan. "I do know I would hate to be lost out here... Hopefully they are alright." The sucking feeling around each of his hooves was not welcomed but clearly the terrain here didn't care what he liked.
As the two Briemian's broke through the brush and ended up on the edge of the water and the bridge, Elrohir let out a hard breath and dropped his head. At least they had made it almost to the boarder. "Just this way a touch and the Onea boarder will be at our hooves. I don't see any tracks though..." High stepping slowly, he forced himself to keep moving through the slog. The mud was unforgiving and he just wanted to be on dry land and truthfully, out of this forest... He was not a fighter... Hopefully some of the War Forged herd could provide insight into the creepy feeling in the forest.
"Hello?" Elrohir couldn't just leave someone behind as well if they needed help. Raja would certainly have his head for calling out but they needed to find the source and figure out who was speaking.

Twitch | WF Farmer AKA The Cabbage Queen Twitch would never admit it, but having Newt around to do all the talking was a breath of fresh air for her. Well, as much as it could be with them SCREECHING out words. The twins beckoned for her and the mare started as if to follow. She hesitated as she recognized the addition of a new form. Twitch had heard of horses with duplication before, but she'd never witnessed it. For a moment she was in a daze, having never met a horse-- besides a select few-- with blessings at all. Despite her plan to quietly sink into the background, Cosmos seemed to take note of her, just as she had him. His strange clone stepped closer to her. She resisted the urge to step back from the looming figure. She didn't lift her face to see him, not when her blind eyes were less use than her blessed hooves. Her blessing reached out to feel for the twins, who she hoped hadn't gotten too far.
When Cosmos clone offered to help, Twitch blinked in surprise. "I-I--" she began, but then the original Cosmos spoke up. Twitch reached out with her sense to see who he was talking about, but the dampness of the earth was something she wasn't used to, and contorted the vibrations that made it hard to read. Great. More horses.

newt & cricket
A few steps forward with a nose in the air and green eyes refusing to look back up at the strangers, or for all Newt cared, the massive stallions who had decided to intrude on their perfectly okay morning. But their arrogance only lasted until the twin began to feel moisture swelling around the sole of their hooves and another towering presence step closer to them with pressuring, uncomfortable energy. They didn't know his name and didn't know his rank, but scarcely refrained from scowling back at the blue roan, a look balanced somewhere between disdain and a defense that by now, only came naturally.
Shuffling their feet a moment in hopes of stepping out of marshy ground, it took another second for Newt to realize that Twitch was lagging behind them. Annoying, but they were quickly reminded by a faint yip from their dog who was lingering somewhere between the three, and at their attention, she only wriggled closer to the twins with a warm look and wagging tail. Newt's perhaps unnecessary suspicion didn't allow them to take their glare off of the small group, even as Marci pushed into their side; especially the roan who stepped forward, especially when he split in two.
The twins' figure jolted at the sight and Cricket's bruised eyes seemed to grow twice their normal size, bewildered in a way unsure if he should be amazed or nearly frightened. They didn't understand blessings very well, Cricket hardly understood his own, and seeing someone use their's so nonchalantly seemed jarring, so, Cricket let out an awkwardly nervous laugh, one loud, and much too out of place. Newt's moment of astonishment was there, surely, but dwindled quickly as the duplicated unicorn stepped toward Twitch, and with a few thankfully swift steps, wedged themself between Cosmos and their friend, forcing Twitch to step backward as Cricket was shoved uncomfortably into her space. Newt's ears shot back against their poll, and their back rounded like that of a cat, but their scowl stayed the same; bitter and untrusting. Newt wasn't strong, but they sure as hell could pretend to be. Cricket nearly groaned at the surprising action— one he perhaps, shouldn't have been surprised at at all— and flicked his ears backward as his head lifted back over Newt's neck to get a good look at the situation, his forelegs fumbling awkwardly in an attempt to gain traction between both his twin's and Twitch's hooves. "We don't need your help..!" Newt snapped quickly in exaggerated response, their brother's voice crossing over their own as they spoke, but if Cricket's reaction was warmer, it faded quickly in comparison.
But as Marci fumbled around Newt's shins in an attempt to lighten their mood, they heard more voices, and the dupilca— no, the original, blue stallion spoke again. "C-company?" Cricket stuttered hesitantly at his words. It wasn't often he could muster conversation to strangers, but Newt could tell that this situation was making him jittery. "C-company?" he repeated, "I-I d-don't un-underst-stand." and his head dropped to fall over the top of Newt's neck in search of an answer, "W-who's there?" He pushed to his smaller twin, his own brown curls mixing with their roached mane. But Newt's own agitation still forced their muscles to brace, and that held them from deciphering an answer.
Cricket's concern was not settled by their sibling's lack of opinion, and it failed to stall there, instead, his head jerked upward to provoke a throb in his temple, but also allow his green eyes to settle on an odd couple of horses between the trees beginning to crowd just past the hoard of stallions that had confronted them. His ears flicked furiously for an ounce of insight, but when he received none immediately, his shakey, faltering voice spoke out for a second time, "W-who's that!?" He blurted out much louder than he intentioned. "I-I mean, th-they look d-different..!" and his head ducked back down to peer at Newt for an answer, but his eyes flicked back toward Twitch too, for the moment, he was reassured to be squished between the two of them.
Soon enough, Newt began to relax, or at least their attention was snatched enough by their brother to force them to minimize their glance at their company. "Cricket." Their tone hummed quietly when he leaned over-top of their mane again. They refrained from merely saying 'I don't know' even though it was true, they knew it wouldn't settle him. "I don't think they're anyone to worry about." sounded like a better response, but apparently it was a bit too reassuring, as their brother just gulped and flicked their tail before stepping forward with a quick, "Okay, l-let's go see." and Newt was pulled forward before they could complain any more than a, "hey!" with Mars at their heels, they slipped passed the duplicate and Cricket's head spun for a moment to shout another, "c-c'mon Twitch!"
When they heard a faint hello, Newt wasn't expecting to hear their brother's high pitch let out a responding, "hello!"

E L R O H I R Male | Consul (War-forged) | Briemian Royal
A voice.
It called out over the eerie air and Elrohir paused, just to locate it's where about's before starting forward. His ears flickered forward and back, hooves pulling at the sucking feeling around his feathers. Not once, in all his travels, had the ground pulled at him like this. In a way that almost scared him. When his hello was met with a high pitched hello back, Elrohir nearly smiled. The Oneaians. They where here and all would be well and safe. With his head bend forward, more to look down at his feet and figure out the terrain, Elrohir started forward.
"Are you ok? I heard some yelling." High stepping in a way to avoid the wet mud and in an effort to try to further his steps, the Briem royal moved forward. His long tail flicked, glad he had decided to braid the end of it so it wouldn't be soaked with mud and stagnant water. "Do you live around here?" Might as well make conversation as he treked his way over. Finally, Elrohir stumbled out of the mud ground, pushing himself up the hill and through the shrubbery and nearly into Newt & Cricket. "Ah! Terribly sorry, I didn't see you!" He tried to step back and out of the way, his back hoof catching on his purple garb and tripping him up, sending him falling down onto his knees.
Best first impressions.

Kalyan | Breim Healer
Kalyan regarded the approaching War-forged horses with wary eyes, his mind still distracted by the strange sight before them. How had the land caved in- no, that wasn't the right word for it- something like this he could not describe with what he knew already. Whatever had happened, it was very wrong. The pooling water had flooded the forest's edge and now, and now there were strangers from another herd able to walk so alarmingly close. Strangers at The Point he could handle, he was among other Breimans then, but at the border with this- he stared at the muddy bridge again and shook his head in irritation, as if the word he could not place was a buzzing fly.
He followed Elrohir, proceeding with more caution than he was accustomed to, not gracing the strangers with a greeting of his own beyond a scrutinizing look. A strange bunch indeed- younger horses and- his eyes rested on the twins, confusion without comprehension alighting on his features before he finally settled uneasily upon the large stallion nearby. Why were they here? Someone needed to ask the important questions- he swung his head towards Elrohir and then bit back at snort of laughter at seeing the royal stumble in the mud. He held his breath until the mirth past and managed to say, "Watch yourself- are you alright?"
He approached Elrohir, wearing a look of mild concern, even though it was only an excuse to study the Oneaians closer without seeming suspicious. They were an... odd bunch to be gathered around the muddy bank. At least his party had a clear purpose. Why were they here- accessing the best way to get across? He disregarded the polite conversation Elrohir offered and called out boldly, "Why are you all gathered here? Something amiss on your side?"
For all his bluntness and lack of tact, a genuine curiosity lingered behind his words as he remembered the odd omens lurking in their forest. Had these War-forged horses sensed something different too- what had pulled them all here?

newt & cricket
Brown strands of sun-bleached forelock obscured their vision as Newt's head shot upward, their normally pinned ears snapping forward as Cricket's sharp, hello! died out. When his greeting received a response and Newt's vision centered on the odd-looking company, their legs locked. The strangers didn't look Oneian, they looked foreign. And that made them panic as recent memories of The Trespasser and its rough occupants wafted uncomfortably through their brain. They wouldn't let something like that happen again, and their green eyes flicked subconsciously to Cricket and Mars, and then Twitch. Even as they stood frozen.
Cricket's ears were still rolled forward as well, and his head cocked sideways in curiosity, allowing his ombre mane to sway gently between him and his twin. It wasn't long before he caught just a touch of Newt's differing energy, and his gaze almost instinctively shifted sideways to offer an ounce of comfort. "Newt--" He started gently, but was cut short, as off the piling dam, and out of a spot of pushes, popped the stallion they heard just recently. Caught off guard, and beginning to feed off of some of Newt's nervous domineer, Cricket's body jolted, and he spun and leaped into his twin to push them both sideways and away from the stranger. The moderate surprise leaving him momentarily shaken, Cricket let out a huff of breath and held his head low in a posture of both embarrassment and apologies. "Oh!" He chirped, his voice still wobbly, "I'm s-sorry! ... I'm sorry too!"
The jump had forced Newt out of their pause and apparently had snapped their temper as they threw their neck overtop Cricket's own to get a good look at the intruder, their fear temporarily erased as their ears shot backward once again. "WHAT DO YOU THINK---" but they were a cut off by a slight shudder in the ground, and before they could even acknowledge the dark-colored horse that soon greeted them as well, they watched as an array of mud and earth shot up from the ground behind them, in time with their brother's scare. Cricket's stance flinched again and Marci let out a string of howls as the dam seemed to almost quiver thanks to some artificial force. Newt's eyes shot to Cricket, whose face had fallen in shock, but he could feel a pressure in his chest, and it didn't take long for Newt to piece it all together. Damn Earth Manipulation. Raja
The foul smell hit his nostrils first, rancid meat and mold heavy in the air. The water had begun to pool around their knees as the group pushed further towards the border and then..they saw it. Roots stretched high into the air as if meaning to touch the clouds. Pale bark gathered around the trunk of the tree which stretched far to the other bank. Listening closely, the Royal could hear the trickle of water as it strained to move past this new obstacle but it was all interrupted as Elrohir shouted across the ravine.
"Hello!?" The stallion's voice echoed through the forest, forcing Raja to give his companion an unsatisfactory glare. Why did they all have to be so noisy?
As he returned to his examination of the fallen mass of a tree, Kaylan too joined in on the shouting but this time, there was a reply. Raja's head shot up, blue eyes focusing on the small group across the way. Ears pinned in annoyance and then skepticism. Why were War Forged so close to the border? While it was true they could have gathered for much the same reason that drew Breim into the forest, the dark stallion wondered if they could also be the cause of all this.
It seemed as though one of the Forged was about to respond when the ground trembled beneath their hooves. The water pulsed at the vibration, the once glass-like surface agitated at the shock. 'Damn-it,' the stallion swore under his breath as his hooves began to slip against the slick surface of the wet ground. And then it hit; an explosion of earth sending shock waves through the air. And then another. There was no time to think as the earth began to quake and the giant fallen tree shifted from its once-steady spot.
"Quickly," The Royal's voice barely carried over the noise. "Gather onto the trunk base! The LAST thing we need is one of you getting crushed when this thing gives way." WC: 330 | Post #2

Kalyan
The rush and roar of water was overpowered by a shout, and Kalyan's query was lost in a thrum of anger from one of the strange hippocampus twins. Reflexively Kalyan stepped away, the dark-haired one's stare was a force to be reckoned with enough, but then the bridge creaked and shifted, as some of the earth holding the ancient trunk in place erupted in the air. He dug his hooves into the water-logged, muddy wood until it stopped shaking and then stared at the twins with a renewed look of suspicion- "Don't do that again." He huffed, his voice still regaining its full composure. Not that there was probably anything he could say to prevent it, but another few choice blows and the bridge could-
It happened so suddenly that it sliced through his thought, never letting it finish. A tremor that tore through the earth and water, and rent the bridge-tree from its stable hold. Kalyan felt the tree began to slide beneath him and his vision blurred from the sudden sensation of vertigo. Somewhere among the ancient tree's shriek as it began to move he heard a voice, and saw Raja behind them, shouting... something.
"Elrohir, we need to get back-" He did not know if the royal heard his words, and when he took a step back towards Raja he felt the rotting wood crumble beneath his hoof. He did not know what saved him them- skittering backwards or another horse yanking him, but felt himself moving back instinctively, jostling against the other horses around him as he moved towards the nearest bank, towards the War-forged side.

Cosmos;War-Forged | Stone Circle if you wish to move mountains tomorrow, you must start lifting stones today What occurred was hardly what Cosmos expected. Instead of Wolfe speaking, the tiny farmers did instead. What surprised him most of all was the responses. When the most delicate of the cave ponies stepped forward and then came to his knees because of his impractical attire, Cosmos could do nothing but stare at them disdainfully, at least his companion had the decency to do so too.
As the third cave dweller referred to the mayhem on their side, Cosmos glanced disapprovingly at them. "Something amiss?" Cosmos scoffed, the land was falling apart and the more he thought about it, the equine seemed suspicious. How was it not obvious to them, weren't they from below the ground? Just as he said so, the earth trembled once more and Cosmos instinctively stood back from the edge of the crumbling bank, that was until the giant tree that began to connect the herds began to shift. When the leader of the cave ponies yelled for his comrades to get on the tree, Cosmos felt the respected Stone Circle title telling him not to leave these foreigners on their own. Racing forward he clambered onto the tree and from that point of view began searching about wildly for ways to get everyone to safety, no matter what would happen next. Bumping forward he stopped the stocky cave dweller from diving into the muck below and shook his head disbelievingly. "Kaia have mercy." Was all he could mutter out.

E L R O H I R Male | Consul (War-forged) | Briemian Royal
The ground was shaking.
They where above ground and the ground still shook and groaned. What sort of crazy place was this?! Standing up, mud dripping from his robes and knees, the Royal blooded equine leapt forward, breathing hard. Elrohir knew he needed to apologize to the twins? a bit better but with Raja hollering about the tree, Elrohir wanted nothing more then to be on safe ground again. The pulling of the mud around his hooves was both off putting and unstable. The slippery slope nearly stole him again as his feathered light colored hooves struggled to find purchase on it.
Eventually, and with too much effort once more, the Consul stood on the large tree trunk, next to his fellow Briemians and of course the Oneaian's that followed Raja's words. Ears flickered down to the younger equines, subconsciously stepping closer to them in a small effort to maybe, maybe to help them should their footing fail. Tail flicked once, long horns with the glittery jewelry chiming chaotically in the rumbling shakes.

Kalyan
For a half-second Kalyan was falling forward, the rushing water looming in his vision, and then another form steadied him and he rocked back on his hooves. For a moment he stood there, enduring the shakes and staring at the sliding muck and water below before he realized the other horse- a War-forged stranger had saved him. He was at a loss for words and could only offer his gratitude in a quick glance to the other stallion before tearing his gaze back down to the ancient tree as it shook beneath the group's hooves. In front of him, the crack in the wood that he had almost fallen through was growing wider as vibrations racked the tree's structure. A flood of doubt rippled through him- something had already torn the tree's massive roots from the ground and toppled it into the water. How could they trust it to actually hold them now? His initial panic dimmed and he exhaled sharply once, and then again, letting his mind clear enough to think logically about what they could do to keep them from all being swept down into the treacherous waters below. The water and mud shifting around the tree's sides was too treacherous-one fall and a horse could be carried away with the current. There were only two other options- get back to one of the banks or brave the tree until the shaking passed. He cast a glance behind him, over the heads of the War-forged horses nearby and to the bank beyond. His eyes widened with despair as he watched the slick mud sliding into the river over the banks- "If this bridge is shaken loosen- then there is little even the gods can do" He uttered, so silently only those closest to him would be able to hear. All he could do was wait for the last of the tremors to run their course. But he voiced his last concern aloud, surprising himself with the rare feeling of uncertainty. "The forest could keep eroding away- what if the quakes are recurring and caused the first damage we saw? The floods would spread..."

Twitch | WF Farmer AKA The Cabbage Queen The mare was jostled back as the twin's returned to her side to talk to the duplicate Cosmos. Twitch's limp ears flicked as she registered new horses, with distinct and strange accents. She cinched her mouth shut as Cricket called out and back to them. Kaia, Cricket... just... for one minute--
She jumped as a figure crashed through the bushes at them, letting out a small peep of surprise. Before she knew what else was happening, suddenly, from deep beneath her, Twitch fell the sudden shock of a quick, powerful vibration, even through all this sopping mud. "C-cricket?--" Twitch had her fair share of run ins with Cricket's new blessing. She was pretty excited for him when she had found out, and tried helping him practice using it. Unexplainable quakes were now attributed to him.
But usually it was one shock, and then done.
As the group stood there, Oneans and Breimians alike, the energy got tense as the quake, for whatever reason, did not stop. Birds in the surrounding trees scattered and Odin (who was still perched on top Twitch's head), cooed nervously. A yell broke the air, and a handful of horses rushed to the tree. As the earth vibrated, slowly the mud around her hooves began pulling her down. Disoriented, panicked, Twitch attempted to follow hooves squelching and mud soon up to her knees. The quake came in waves and Twitch was momentarily blinded in those moments, overwhelmed with the amount and force of the whole earth groaning. Odin guided her, letting out little hoots that the mare could decipher. After what felt like eons, she made it to the cluster of branches that topped the tree. She slipped and slid and clambered up. Panting, she realized the twins would have an even harder time. "Newt, Cricket!" she called whipping back around.

newt & cricket
"TWITCH!" Newt's voice rang out as they watched the scene play out before them, "damn it, GET OFF THE TREE, YOU IDIOT!" and though the two twins would have both preferred to avoid the situation altogether, they trotted, quite awkwardly, after their friend. Only slamming to a stop once they reached the first step aboard the crumbling bridge. They attempted to rear upward, and catch their front feet on the trunk but their hip was already aching at all the commotion, and with mud threatening to suck off their cannon bones, the two could only jerk their heads upward in some form of pathetic hop. But Newt's sight could still single on the strange, foreign-looking horses and in the moment, they seemed like a good target to blame. They had surprised their brother, after all, it wasn't his fault his blessing jumped the gun.
And they did. With eyes passing Twitch, Newt glared daggers at the newcomers before their shouting commenced, "What do you lot want?! You ought to leave! This is your FAULT!" Baring their teeth to reveal a look of pure aggression, Newt shot a powerful breath out of flared nostrils before their head fell back to their blind friend. "Twitch!" The farmer shouted again, but this time, lighter. "Come on! Get back here before you fall completely!"
They didn't care about the rest of them. Newt just wanted to get Twitch and their brother out of the area before they all succumbed to the water they heard crashing below. (252 wc, post 5)

Kalyan
"Our fault?" His jaw clenched and he stared at the strangers as if with a new understanding and renewed suspicion. The thick bark beneath his hooves continued to rock, as if now shaking with his growing anger. He knew, the small voice of reason in the back of his mind was telling him urgently- he knew this was the worst situation of any to pick a fight. And yet, it was like all of his pent-up emotions, his fear and worry about what he had seen in the forest on their own side came rushing to the surface. No one was talking about the strange events and Kalyan had no inkling at all about what horse or God had started them, but he would argue and glare and toss his mane until he made some sense of it all. "How is this our fault when you- your- twin can move earth like-" The clamor rising in his throat died at the sudden realization and he bit back his words regretfully, though his jaw remained set and heavy, as he wondered if angering either of them would only make the precarious situation worse. "Look maybe-" Kalyan's gaze flicked to Cricket, unsure if he would get an answer, "You can try, anything, to keep this tree in place in the mud. So we can try to return to our home- If we can still cross." And his last words were to Elrohir, and the other War-forged horses gathered on the tree with him. Where he had stepped before and almost fallen through, the wood had seemed rotted. The last thing they needed was for the tree to get dislodged and carry them all into the tumultuous water.

E L R O H I R Male | Consul (War-forged) | Briemian Royal
The flood of water that surged around and under them was just too strong. A great creaking sound could be heard under their hooves. The tree was taking a beating and it could take no more. With batted breath, Elrohir felt and heard the snapping of wood as the large trunk literally snapped in half. Cold water soon drowned out all senses as the equines upon the log and bank became washed away in the strong current.
After the momentary shock from the 'refreshing' water Elrohir's mind was set. Get out of this water! Legs strained against the rush of liquid but he couldn't make any head way.
It was too strong to just swim across!
His robes. Head turned, vanishing under the water for a brief moment as he tugged off the purple fabric. He spotted a head bobbing around him through his drenched bangs. "Grab hold!! We need to find everyone and figure out a plan!" He called over the raging water, spotting the large log not far off. It was floating! They could use that!

newt & cricket
"Listen!" Newt snapped cooly, "it doesn't work that way, okay! You--" but before they could really dig a deep glare at the dark-coated Breimian, their voice fell, and the twins' ears flicked forward. A chilling groan erupted from somewhere deep in the chest of the soaked tree. Newt could hear a nervous hum from their brother at the noise, a quiet, stuttering, "Neeewwt..." buzzing in their ear from Cricket's side. Within a moment of realization, Newt jerked forward and their voice caked in urgency, "DAMN IT, TWITCH, HURRY!"
The two attempted to spin, but they stumbled in the mud, and with an ear-splitting crack, the tree snapped, and they felt the Earth give way underneath them. With a yelp, it was only a moment before their skin broke the water's surface and they plummeted feet below the whitecaps. If they could manage a normal transition, gills would have come in handy, but instead, the hippocampi struck their legs against the current, held their breath, and scrunched their eyes until they could propel themselves to useable oxygen. They gasped, before choking on more water, and all four ears pinned back to desperately avoid the moisture. The whites of Newt's eyes flashed something fierce, if not fearful, as they struggled to keep their head above water. "T-Twitch...!" They heard Cricket choke in a crackling voice, "a-are-- where--" but his words were soon muted by fits of coughing.
Newt threw their shoulders against the current, forcing Cricket to jolt in the tide, their forelegs striking violently in search of a ground that wasn't there. If there was pain in their hip earlier, it was hardly noticeable as their heart pounded through adrenaline. But in a moment, they heard a shout, and twisted blazing eyes to land on a drenched Elrohir, and soon, the twins found their teke reaching for a broken log, cannon bones latching over the wood with an inevitable heavy breath. Kalyan
The ancient tree shrieked its final protest and then was no more- it gave a great, rumbling shudder as it gave way, the thick stripes of bark crumbling and collapsing into the torrent below. Kaylan felt himself sliding first and out of instinct alone he scrabbled desperately to find a hold. His vision blurred as he fell and the frothing white water rushed to meet him, eager to swallow him whole. The first sensation he was aware of was a throbbing, aching pain in his chest where he'd struck the water. His legs beat in a frenzied rhythm to keep his head aloft as he gasped for air. A dreamy, meandering voice worked through his terrified thoughts to wonder where all his breath had gone. He let the water carry him as it pleased, fighting only to keep his head up until finally he could breath once more. The first breath jarred his head back into reality, and he heard Elrohir's shout somewhere near, at the same time spotting the twins pushing towards a massive log. And beyond them... he spotted a jumble of broken trees and stones piling up against a jutting edge of the bank.
Gods help me. His legs beat frantically against the whirling water - he hardly knew how to swim and could well exhaust himself and drown before ever reaching the others. And then something struck him heavily in the shoulder and his vision went black with pain. His old injury screamed in agony and he dimly felt his left leg go numb. And yet the stray piece of wood that hit him sent Kalyan straight towards the others. Through blurred and blackened vision he made out the forms of other horses and of the log. He twisted and slammed against it, failing to get both forelegs over. Grunting in pain and agonized frustration he tried again, and pulled his right leg over the log, securing him in place. His left leg hung awkwardly below the water. "The-there" His voice was ragged and trailing, "Get the log to.. that" He gestured with a flick of his nose towards the jutting edge of the bank he had seen earlier.

Cosmos;War-Forged | Stone Circle if you wish to move mountains tomorrow, you must start lifting stones today As soon as the stallion was secure on the tree. It sunk into Cosmos the situation he put himself in. Very rarely had Cosmos ever left Kaia's earth and a ringing began to build in his ears as he tail began to pick up pace side to side. His face showed no signs of the internal fear however.
Barely paying attention to the nonsensical back and forth of the two herds, Cosmos began thinking of ways to get out of their situation. Breathing deeper, Cosmos attempted to use his logical mind to look around, he thought he found the solution! But by Kaia's natural earth, that's when the cracking and heart-wrenching creaking began. And then she broke. The last thing he saw was the flailing of those he had just stood with and then he was pulled under the water not to be seen again...
Breathing heavily, Cosmos shook his head as he could focus once more. Stamping his hooves up and down one at a time on solid earth he gasped. Using his duplicate in such dire moments took their toll and Cosmos' head began to sink before he grunted making note that his job was not finished. With a grunt he began to run at a safe distance from the crumbling bank but still parallel to it, trying to get a visual on the group being tossed about in the waters. Finally some meters down, Cosmos began to feel the ground harden and found a spot he could come close to the water and help find out a route out and up. "OVER HERE!" He yelled. Hoping that if they propelled the log towards him he could help heave them out. The Breimians would have to find their own way home from there. chalk by Artistic-Pineapple
