NURIKO
The days leading up to this moment had been nothing but stressful. Grateful eyes glanced upon the equine he was doing all of this for as a tender brush was pulled through his mane. Because of Mairon the King's Guide looked almost as good as before the Kirin's had been rounded up. All of Nuriko's prized possessions had been packed up, his home looking more sparse and empty then he could ever imagine. There would be no going back from this. Not anymore... Worried forehead pressed into the other equines shoulder, seeking some sort of comfort. Some sort of knowledge to know he was doing the right thing.
Was he?
Feeling the breath over his neck and withers it sealed in his head that yes... He was doing the right thing. If Briem could not overlook the millennia of hatred towards these being that clearly could not remember or chose to not remember, he would give them what they sought most. Freedom.
Leaving behind the safety of his home, the walls that shielded him from the ridicule and gossip that now followed his every step, he ventured out under the cover of early morning darkness and led the kirins that had heeded his call towards the opening. Mairon was his strength now. He was doing all of this for him. The others where just coasting on the ripples behind him, using him like everyone else did. Mairon was different, wasn't he?
------
The days where long and the paths they took where challenging even for the king's Guide. They took dead ends here and now, but for the most part Nuriko got it right. As the ever looming entrance to the cave came into sight, miles ahead of him, did the high ranking equine start to get cold feet. He was giving all of it up... Everything he had worked for. Suki... Head shook hard, pressing it into Mairon's shoulder as the Kirin ventured close. Could he really be doing right? His herd would be better off now that the kirins were leaving... Wouldn't they? Legs shook, looking at the gaping hole of the outside world. It was only then that footsteps in front of them, made the King's Guide freeze up. Had he lead them down the wrong tunnel?!

Mairon [ post #1 || word count: 447 ] |
The empty shell of what had once been a home was a more unsettling sight to Marion than he had expected. This place, Nuriko’s home, it had become his as well, right down to the excessive shades of blues that had bugged him the first time he had visited. He’d been oblivious then to how much everything there would mean to him, even the fireplace that stubbornly emitted only blue and green flames. Still he knew parting this place wasn’t nearly as difficult as it was for the unicorn, they had shared dear memories here but Nuriko had a life’s worth of memories within these walls. As for the kirin the only possession he had been able to retrieved from his forge had been his hammer, Fyrgebræc, the trusty tool hung securely at his side from a leather strap. It would be all he had to show for his time among the Breim, well that at a beautiful boyfriend.
The Marion came to stand beside his beloved as the other prepared to leave his home. No words could be found to lighten the blow of losing a cherished dwelling place, so the kirin silently embraced Nuriko who was giving up everything for him. All of it for the kirin’s sake: Nuriko’s life among the Breim, his reputation, his rank, and his home. Mairon pressed a soft muzzle to the other’s neck, for him this was home right here, Nuriko was home.
---
The walk through the dark was long and mostly kept in silence. They were joined by others. Two other kirins, Raksha and Thanatos, whom Mairon recognized from his time in captivity. He nodded a respectful greeting, for some reason the darkness around them and the uncertainty of their quest to leave the darkness behind, warranted silence. He could feel the incline of the paths underneath his hooves and Marion felt a thrill of excitement, yes, their future held much uncertainty but the fire coursing through the kirn’s veins made him feel ready to take on whatever came their way.
As the light up ahead grew stronger, Mairon sensed the hesitation in his partner. By now he knew when Nuriko was overthinking things and considering the weighty consequences of his action. He moved close making sure the other could feel his presence, “Courage dear, you’ve led us through the tunnels and you’ve protected me in the darkness, now let me protect you in the light.” A noise caught the kirin’s hears, hooves on stone. He squinted into the light but found it hard to see who approached due to the increased light, whoever it was the odds that they would approve of this secretive venture were doubtful.

Arges | Driven
The lively threads of Anah reached about in the damp air, daring to touch the pigeon that fluttered about Arges' ears. It was early, before the morning, barely any daylight had made it through the skylight when Arges left the house, but it was the calmer part of the day. The young Driven had seen others walking about, but didn't speak up to them. Perhaps they needed peace too before Sterling woke up.
Arges shook his head to disrupt the games between his bird and blanket. He was out to clear his head, not to get it tousled by a couple of rowdy companions. Thoughts of his next projects were coming slow. He had hit a rough patch in his work and felt stuck. The pressure was on to continuously produce new scopes with stronger lenses and mirrors, but getting hold of those things was getting harder and harder. In order to make a stronger scope, better materials needed to be produced first, and some didn't understand the process.
Thoughts kept buzzing about so fast, Arges passed himself to a different subject. The letter at home. He hadn't written to the Baudin's in some time following their last meeting. He just didn't know what to say. With Anah's help he tried recalling what they did during the visit, but none of it seems worthy to write back about, especially after so long. Noises up ahead brought him back. The Driven let himself zone out before and now found himself approaching more horses.
Squinting into the dimmer tunnel ahead he saw a cloaked unicorn, Nuriko. They'd met before under some... frightening circumstances. He recalled the bitter look from their first meeting as well and planned ahead this time to bow appropriately. As he drew nearer the other figures became clear. The closest was a palomino horse with a sing tined horn and scales. Oh no. The next following shared the same antlers and scaled traits. What in the Gods' names was Nuriko doing? He stopped in his tracks, a good distance ahead of the kirin troop. Tiny curls of smoke arose from the path beneath his hooves and his skin grew hotter as the fear crept in. Oliver the pigeon nestled into his mane and Anah fluttered on his back as if they were also frightened by the horned beasts. Arges kept his head up as he stared across at Nuriko. Sure he had a damn good reason for this.

A M I T Y
of the Kawaru Breimians
......
The chimeric mare awoke with a start to her bedroom, devoid of any living things other than herself and a few potted plants she took care of. Upon noticing the early time, Amity sighed and fell back against her pillows to attempt to go back to sleep. But the thoughts of strangers and her work plagued her mind. She was so busy now she rarely got any time to herself, from making sure the plants were being taken care of to making sure the shop was running well. And with so much pressure on the Kawaru from the Umare, Amity could barely relax. Not to mention the outside herds causing trouble above ground after what happened with the Aodhians awhile ago. All the politics plagued her mind, as there they were, underground, letting the world turn on without them. It irked the mare, and was one of the reasons why she left the Umare years ago. But thinking about all of that wasn't helping her sleep. So finally, she rose, fixed her mane and tail and decended from her home to walk the Labyrinth.
That was another thing she didn't miss about the Umare, the restricted travel. The Kawaru didn't mind walking about as long as you didn't get lost. Amity values her walks, and hummed along the way as she made her way through the familiar tunnels close to her city of Sterling. Not long into her walk she spotted another one of her people, walking quietly. She knew he had to have heard her coming, so she stayed silent to let him enjoy the serenity of early morning. But it was soiled not too long after she noticed Arges, for a group was coming up through the tunnel, their thoughts nervous, even afraid. Once they drew closer, Amity's eyes widened as they came into view. A bunch of Kirins, one of which she had seen before. Marion was the one she had tried to keep out of the clutches of The Watch once the order was set out to gather the Kirins as prisoners. Alongside Marion was none other than the King's Guide, Nuriko. Amity's ears flicked backward in weariness. What are they doing here? she wondered to herself.
"Nuriko...what is the meaning of this? It's quite early for a morning stroll...so far away from Nariah with the supposed Kirin prisoners." she called out into the tunnel, her voice echoing around her and through the space. Her voice wasn't malicious or mocking, just slightly sarcastic but mostly genuinely curious. Bright crimson eyes scanned the Kirins somewhat nervously, seeing if they had anything to say either. Her long flaxen and black tail swished and brushed the floor around her hooves expectantly.

Raksha So how many times must you fall to your knees Never, never, never, never Never do this again" "
1 | 426
She had been silently waiting alongside the other Kirin, Thanatos, both of them immersed in their own thoughts. Raksha have had their doubts, when the Kings Guide came to her and spoke of freedom. She still had reservations about his plan, but the wish to see the sun again was stronger than the doubt. Not long ago, the kirin had felt a shift of balance in the world, subtle, but it had caused the urge to find whatever was responsible for that in her. It wasn't to find here, undergrounds, that she was sure of.
The mare raised an eyebrow when Nuriko and the pale kirin came in sight and nodded towards all the stuff they carried along. "Don't lie to yourself, you can't take your old life with you into your new one" Another quick nod into Mairon's direction, than the group started moving.
The way wasn't easy at all, even though her split hooves moved reliably over the partly rough ground, the true problem where the narrow tunnels. Every now and then her large antlers scraped along the walls around her, what sometimes led to anxiety attacks that she resolutely tried to hide from the others. Raksha remembered how her last life ended, crashed between unnatural walls of earth and the walk through the tunnels brought those images back to her mind.
Suddenly all tension and anxiety faded away. It was Ignacios light that shone from the end of a tunnel after some harsh days of walking. All pain was worth it. Those far away rays of sun made up for the months spend in total darkness.
Unfortunately the relief didn't hold that long. The clatter of hooves on stones was like a bird of doom. When the horses came into sight, she exchanged a quick glance with Thanatos. Her eyes said it all. We can overwhelm them. The dark stallion had been a fighter too, in his previous life. Even if the mind had forgotten it, the muscles remembered the years of training. But that was just in case. Maybe they didn't had to fight. She would however. This was too important to turn back, to walk back into prison like an obedient slave.
Her ears laid flat against her back as she looked down on the chimeric mare. "The Kings Guide's matters are none of your business" , Raksha replied coldly and with laying an extra accent on the word "King's Guide".

Thanatos The first time Thanatos had met Nuriko, it was under unsatisfactory circumstances. Deemed a monster to hide among the shadows, the talkative unicorn had managed to lure him out. Time had passed since then and Thanatos's ill feelings towards the unicorn had began to shift in a direction he had least expected. He wouldn't go so far as to say he liked the unicorn, but there was certainly far less dislike than there was before. More so when the unicorn had came to him with the proposal of escaping these damned tunnels, Thanatos could hardly say no.
He didn't say a word as the two of them finally appeared, carrying their belongings with them. Raksha shared his thoughts, but he was far less concerned about that. "Let's hope that won't slow you two down." He grumbled, moving as quickly as he was able through the tunnels lit only by small crystal-like torches. He followed behind Raksha, ignoring the scraping of his own massive antlers. There were occasions when he had to turn his head so he might fit comfortably down a tunnel, but all would be worth it in the end if they did get out of here.
All was going well, far too well, when the sound of hoof beats echoed through the tunnels. Hoof beats that definitely did not belong to them. Thanatos met Raksha's eyes and gave a small nod. His head rose, giving the illusion that his antlers were bigger than they actually were as he narrowed his gaze at the common horses blocking their path. His long tail flicked in annoyance at the chimera's words but he held his tongue. He was no one's prisoner.

Reid Breim Citizen It wasn't the initial sound of hooves against the hard stone flooring that caught the boy's attention. Those, he was accustomed to, rarely finding the owner of the rhythmic beats that echoed through the tunnels. Reid was wandering, worn cloak pulled over his ears to protect him from the cold. He had just recovered from a harsh cough that had left him bed-ridden for nearly a week and a half. Now it had gone down to a few sputters here and there, and his mother insisted he go out and get some fresh air by the skylight.
No, it wasn't the sounds that alerted him. It was the tension in the air, the scent of unfamiliarity that the cold cave winds carried. It mingled with the scent of his own people, the damp halls and crisp, metallic-tasting air. He was usually one to investigate, and this time was no different. He took light steps as he peeked around the corner, his ears - which rarely ever lifted from their consistently-pinned position - lifted, breath catching in his chest when he noticed the small gathering of equine. Three were decorated in scales and horns, an abrupt contrast from the other figures. He faintly recognized two, but hadn't a clue who the rest were.
From here, he decided to keep hidden. He couldn't afford getting into a fight, but he was growing increasingly curious about the reason for the kirins to be making their way through his home-tunnels.

NURIKO
They had been spotted this was everything the unicorn had feared when leaving the safety of his home. Granted the words and glances of Raksha and Thanatos did little to help quell his racing mind. Thankfully Mairon was here, a scent and presence that drove the unicorn forward. He knew what he was doing was against everything his herd needed, but... If the members of this place could not do this deed themselves, he would take the fall for it. Freeing the Kirins from Briem, the ones who had heeded his call, should bring about some peace, some calm to the madness. At least he hoped it would.
The tunnels they had taken had lead the unicorn slightly astray but he knew he could not just go tromping through Nariah with three kirins in tow. That would have gotten them all thrown into the cells in a hurry. Instead he had taken the back tunnels, skirting the edge of Nariah and then into the boarders of Sterling. What he had thought he had seen as the sun was nothing more then the city lit up. But they where still on their way out. That was until two sets of hooves came before them. Ears had thought they had picked up another set not far off but the King's Guide was a wreck and would chalk it up to his anxiety ridden mind. If they could just get past these two equines and further into the labyrinth, no one could touch them.
Arges stood before him, a simple almost cowardly equine he had encountered before. But useful, for the most part. Amity spoke up however, her chimera hind end almost glistening in the glow of the caves. "They are no more prisoners then you are from the Umare. Both of you." He spoke up, needing to keep his collected and almost calm exterior at the forefront. None could see how drained he really was, none except Mairon. He took a few more steps forward, standing in front of the mighty kirins, Raksha and Thanatos nearly dwarfing him. Legs shook slightly but he had to do this. They where so close.
"Surely those who have been cast out by the Umare can relate. They are equines through and through. Touched by flame yes, but I am sure some of us have also been touched by the firegod as well, hiding in the shadows." He paused, mind clearly struggling to make sense of this without out right saying what he was doing. "I am trying to help them. Since all of Nariah would rather see them rot away behind bars. Our Lord Argus refuses to change. Therefore someone must do the changing for him. To hopefully show him the old ways are not working any longer."
He knew he wasn't making any sense, but the unicorn was so tired.
So tired of all the political nonsense.

Mairon [ post #2 || word count: 252 ] |
So close, so close to making the pass by Sterling without being detected, yet now two figures blocked their path. The silver grullo kirin looked them over, a bay dun stallion with a shimmering piece of cloth draped over his shoulders and a black and grey chimera mare. At the mare’s mention of the kirins as ‘prisoners’ Mairon’s ears flicked back, a dangerous spark in his eye. Mentally he touched the war hammer at his side to reassure himself that it was there and ready to use if necessary. It appeared to be two against four, three of whom where kirins, this would be no contest. A glance behind him at Raksha and Thanatos told him the two larger kirins were thinking along the same lines. The only problem was that the sound of a scuffle would likely draw the attention of others. And yet the longer they tarried here in this cave the higher the chance of others coming upon them. Mairon could almost feel the cold steel bars closing about his world once more, no way he was going to allow that to happen without a fight.
Hot words simmered on Mairon’s tongue but he stayed quiet, he had a habit of stirring up trouble which was hardly what was needed right now. What was needed were Nuriko’s cool words to quickly diffuse the situation and hopefully grant the kirins access to the world above. “We wish only to leave and trouble the Breim no more.” The kirin said sincerely.

Reid
He could see the irritation in the defenders, the fear of conflict now even greater for the young stallion. He ducked his head back, taking a moment to catch his breath and think of some sort of way to fix the whole situation. Reid was admittedly surprised he had not been spotted, but as he tilted his head back around the corner he could see why. The tension and anxiety from the entire situation was drowning his presence, masking it with the fear that all the equine were feeling.
It was only fitting for him to suddenly have a small coughing fit then and there, using his cloak to muffle the gasp before clearing his throat of whatever was causing to itch so poorly. He considered turning and running, but he had felt a bit of sympathy for the kirin. The roan wasn't wrong. Though he didn't share much compassion for the children of Ignacio, as he had been just as repressed by the royal family. He gave another small cough before stepping out of the shadows. A M I T Y
of the Kawaru Breimians
......
No sooner had the small mare spoken that the Kirins visibly bristled before her. The blue taffy mare had pinned her ears, and the black stallion raised his head...she guessed to be more intimidating. And intimidating they were, Amity was terrified. Her mind raced, as did her heart. But that didn't break her demeanor, which stiffened slightly at the large mare Kirin's words. She managed to smile in her direction and replied, "My apologies, however seeing how his matters brought all of you right to our city, it is my business. You are all but strangers to me, and if I were to appear on your doorstep I'm sure you would be weary as well." Her voice was cool as she spoke and held her ground against the strange guests, scanning their minds for any signs of leaping into action. Her shoulder scar from a Kirin's antler when he appeared in the world twinged. She most definitely didn't want to meet these beings in battle. Looking through their thoughts she found unanimously that the Kirins knew they could beat the Kawaru equines before them in a fight. Of course their minds would go to that...no one ever just talks anymore. They must have gone through so much... she thought to herself with a sigh. It was quite sad, to her anyway. But thankfully, Nuriko stepped forward and began to explain himself. He must understand why she was concerned. She nodded in understanding as he spoke, her ears flicking forwards. When the unicorn finished speaking, she too stepped forward towards the group, speaking directly to the Kirins first.
"I was quite unhappy to see you taken as prisoners and I should not have referred to you as such. I apologize." she bowed her head and neck to the beings she was afraid of. But though she was afraid, she knew their imprisonment was unfair. She read how tired and worn Nuriko was, from a combination of the journey and stress. Taking another slow step forward, she offered a sympathetic smile. She too was far overtired from physical and emotional strain. This time she spoke directly to Nuriko. "These Kirins are not treated fairly by Argus or by the Umare, I understand your mission." Then to the whole lot of them, "Touched by Ignacio or not, no one is asked to be born the way they are and in turn suffer for it. So long as you can guarantee the safety of Sterling and it's occupants, I for one will help you all escape in any way I can." she concluded, her crimson gaze resting on each of the Kirins and Nuriko before turning to Arges and Reid...she didn't want to speak for them, but hoped they felt similarly to herself. Nuriko was right after all, they did know what it felt like to be treated unfairly.

Arges | Driven
Arges let his eyes stray from the kirins as Amity spoke. She had almost spooked him speaking up so suddenly using harsher words than he cared to think. Prisoner wasn't the right word, but there wasn't another one he could find to replace it. When the kirins first started arriving he just wanted them out of the tunnels, but instead they were rounded up and kept close. He was afraid of them since the beginning. All the young horse wanted was for them to leave so that he could carry on, but they stayed. The word Kirin would come up in conversation leaving him short of breath trying to hide his own smoke. The months following Ignacio's own "blessing" being placed on him, Arges was forced to live with fire. He couldn't ignore it or the ones who created it anymore. Arges' yellow eyes were wide as the chimera spoke, trying to ask for silence.
The kirins began to bristle at the comment. One spoke up and the bite of her words made Arges flinch. The kirins seemed to all grow in size, their intimidating appearance crushed the dun horse. His breath became short as his lungs simply refused to work with him, shrinking in size as the looming antlers cast shadows on the tunnel walls. As he felt himself shrink the fire Ignacio gave him grew. He could hear Nuriko speak but most of the words were lost. Touched by Flame. In some way, they all were.
Amity had walked past Arges with frightening confidence toward Nuriko and the kirins. Her words carried such sympathy for the kirins and in a way, she was right. She and Nuriko both were right. They had been cast out and the kirins had been cast aside. Neither had a voice that the Umare would hear and something had to change that. But this couldn't be the Big Step for the Kawaru. If they were to aide the escape, nobody could know.
Anah fluttered on his back as the thoughts began to form. He knew the qualities the relic possessed and it could be of use, no matter how weak it was. He looked at Amity, who had turned to face back down the path. Reluctantly he let go a deep breath. They had really got themselves in something deep this time. "If we are to help you" he started off quietly, smoke slipping between words as his nerves refused to back down, "nobody can find out." He turned his yellow eyes to Nuriko, the only real link to the Umare present. "We're so close to Sterling that even with you present, the Kawaru would be doomed if caught." It was a rare moment that his tone remained even as he spoke. No cracks or wavering pitch. Their livelihood was on the line. Word Count - 470

Raksha So how many times must you fall to your knees Never, never, never, never Never do this again" "
2 | 286 The more nodded absent-minded as Nuriko spoke. There was some unintentional respect she started to feel towards the unicorn. He was about to give up his life - a very good life with a great reputation and a high rank in his herd's society- and even rebelled against his patron god. Argus had clearly shown what he thought about the resurrected kirins, and still Nuriko was here, trying to help them. Because he thought it was right, and because of his love for Mairon. This new world and it's inhabitants really were fascinating, and strange.
The mare's posture slowly changed as she listened further to the conversation, she became more relaxed and her body language didn't spoke of fight anymore. The strange equines reaction surprised her and she warned herself to still stay cautious. Their words didn't felt like lies, but you never knew. "We need to apologize for our behavior as well, but not many citizens are sympathetic towards my kind. Mairon is right, we just want to leave, and don't cause any more trouble to your herd. We would be forever grateful if you could lead us safe and unseen out of the tunnels." Her voice was calmer than before, but still had an impatient tone to it.
Argus herd was divided, and somehow that fascinated her. During the time she had spent hiding from the Guards, she had read a lot about the Breimian's and their way of life, and it was so different from the one she was used to. Ignacio's children had been so close, so steadfast in their belief.

ReidReid looked between each of the horses, still trying to formulate words on his tongue. He was afraid of drawing attention to himself, for getting involved. But the flaxen was already too far in just from stumbling upon the group, that getting himself out of the situation wasn't a possibility anymore. He sighed, making his way slowly towards his fellow people, nodding politely toward Arges and Amity. "Though your words are right, you are Umare, and of high rank no less. What makes you think I should trust you?" he finally says, turning his attention first to the unicorn, who seemed much less threatening to him. "You are risking everything to take them out of captivity. But you have done nothing for us, your own people."Reid remained defiant towards Nuriko. The other's intentions were good, but Reid was still frustrated from the mistreatment he had gotten from his own herd. They, the kirins, were being freed, released into the world to do Argus-knows-what. But thousands of Breimians were being forced behind the bars of inequity for their different beliefs. He knew he would help. He could relate to the discriminated kirins, but he wouldn't do such a harboring task blindly. He needed answers. Post 3 | 203 words

Thanatos Thanatos was growing impatient, sweeping his icy gaze around the small cavern and listening to the conversation. Time was of the essence and here they were conversing with one another. They needed to be gone, for Thanatos was sure that there would never come another chance such as this. "If we do not leave now, we will not have another chance." He warned, glancing at Raksha and then towards Nuriko and Mairon. He didn’t entirely trust that these strangers wouldn’t turn on them in an instance, but they at least had two on their side now. The last one needed more convincing.
He turned towards Reid, the only one who seemed to want to slow them all down. “Whether you agree to help or not, I will not staying in these tunnels another day.” Thanatos’s voice was low and heavy. His eyes darted between the equines who blocked their path, wondering how easy it would be to knock them all down. With Raksha's aid, he knew it would be easy. He squared off his shoulders and lowered his antlered head. It wasn’t entirely a threat, but the notion was there all the same.

NURIKO
The unicorn was about to actually relax for once as both Amity and Arges agreed to help. He was much too tired to inform Arges how incorrect his words might be. Instead he was about to take a breath, a deep calming breath until Reid spoke. The audacity of the stallion. Eyes narrowed, wanting nothing more then to just walk past him and continue forward, ignoring him. But Thanatos reacted first, lowering his head. Again a slender hoof stepped his way in front of the black kirin, to stop him from doing anything regrettable. With the action he was trying to tell the Kirins he would handle this. That he could handle this.
"Reid, was it? I do not think you realize what I am doing for you, for all of Briem. I am giving up everything to give this herd a new fighting chance. With the Kirin's removed the Royals and other Guides can focus now on the herd rather then the nagging that is going on. They will have one thing less to distract them and also leave Sterling alone." As the unicorn took a breath the ground under his feet started to tremble. Eyes flew wide, his body tensing. The roof of Nariah was collapsing on the other side of the herd but the tremors and aftershocks would not be exempt here.
The walls wavered and creaked around them, the city of Sterling falling victim to the tremendous shaking and catastrophe that was befalling the Umare. A large wall of stone on the other side of Sterling started to crumble and fall, sunlight washing into the city as if giving the citizens of Kawaru a new hope. But that was not all it had in mind. Water seemed to trickle between the groups hooves, hinting that a spring had been ruptured or unearthed in the shifting of earth and stone. Behind them a great rushing sound could be heard and Nuriko whiped around to stare. The tunnel they had just come from was shaking in a different way. "GET INTO THE CITY!" Nuriko bellowed, his head suddenly lowering. "NOW!" With no time like the present he would see just how strong his touch from the wave mother was. But he needed somewhere to put it. With a stance as if he was holding back everything, the wall of water suddenly seemed to be able to go no further and the unicorn collapsed down to his front knees, trying to hold back the amount of pressure. It was a feat for sure but there wasn't much time to linger.

Mairon [ post #3 || word count: 428 ] |
The first tremor Mairon thought he had imagined. A product of walking for so long in the darkness and the heightened tensions of the past few minutes. After the arrival of a third citizen of Kawaru suspicions seemed to ease and safe passage was being negotiated. The second tremor was unmistakable, it lasted much longer and Mairon felt as if the ground below him was writhing in agony. The sound of rock splitting echoed through the tunnel. The kirin’s heart pounded as he braced his legs and looked to Nuriko, unsure how to protect the unicorn from a danger than seemed all around them. Was Argus getting his revenge on the kirins at last? Would they be buried underground forever?
Mairon felt something wet slosh about his hooves, water. It was streaming past, a forerunner of a huge wave of water that surged down the tunnel towards the group of equines. Mairon turned in surprise and braced himself knowing full well that that much water could easily knock him off his hooves. However, seconds before the water enveloped them it seemed to hit an invisible wall and traveled up it to the ceiling of the tunnel. The silver grullo glanced over to Nuriko who looked strained and was yelling for them to get to the safety of the city. Mairon’s pale gold eyes traveled between the escape route, the wall of water and the unicorn. He couldn’t leave Nuriko’s side, but he couldn’t delay either, the unicorn could only hold back the water for so long. A curl of smoke issued from the kirin’s nostrils as he realized this was not a problem he could beat back with hammer or fire. A feeling of powerlessness enveloped him. He had to trust Nuriko in this. “Do as he says, let’s go!” He called to the others before returning his attention to the straining blue roan.
“I'll see you at the city or else I’m diving in after you.” Mairon said loudly above the general noise of the situation. He turned and galloped down the tunnel towards the city; swearing between clenched teeth that if anything happened to his love he would tear Breim apart until he stood before Argus himself. The tunnel opened up to reveal the city of Sterling which Mairon might have noticed was in disarray if he didn’t have more pressing matters on his mind. He skidded to a halt and turned to gaze intently at the dark opening of the tunnel, his legs shook as he counted the seconds until the others and Nuriko emerged.

Reid
Reid had just opened his mouth to reply to Nuriko's exclaim, when he felt the earth shifting beneath him. His body immediately froze, though his trained hooves quickly found a grip and he steadied himself. "It seems there may be no herd to focus on!" He spoke in almost a joking tone, laughing dryly. I am going to die, he thought to himself as a heavier shake nearly knocks him down. Gaia was going to bury him beneath the ground. And then he saw the water, rolling quickly over his feet and soaking his tail that dragged on the ground. It didn't seem that Cascade was on their side either.
Reid's breathing grew labored as another groan shook the cavern, the roar of the water ahead nearly drowning out what the unicorn was saying next. Something about the city... His head flung up, tangled mane flying with how quickly he moved. When he realized what Nuriko had done, blocking the water for a fragile moment, Reid understood. "Come with me!" he called to the two remaining kirins, seeing as the other had already taken off upon hearing his companion's command. "The city may be in chaos, but the people may still not forgive the sight of a kirin as much as we have!" He glanced toward the city, ushering with his head for the crew to follow. The way he had come, from his own home, wasn't very populated and had tunnels leading from the edge of the city. He knew they could go there (and he really wanted to see his mom in case he did happen to die).
As he trotted off on the unstable ground, the flaxen looked over his shoulder. "I will see you again, this conversation isn't over!" he shouted toward Nuriko. He had better, otherwise Reid would be stuck living with some sort of guilt that his disliking for the Umare had interfered with his common sense. His stubbornness could have been the difference between the unicorn living or dying.

Thanatos Thanatos didn't hide the look of disgust on his face as Nuriko stepped foward. While he knew there were tentative steps to be had with these equines, he still couldn't displace the unease and annoyance he felt at being in the hands of a unicorn. It felt wrong, like he were being forced to bow to a King he did not believe in. He remained still, his head still lowered in the threatening pose when suddenly the earth beneath his hooves began to tremble and shake. Perhaps Argus was not done with them after all, Thanatos thought in alarm, turning to look around. The walls creaked and whined as if protesting all around them, water began filling the tunnels. Thanatos's stomach dropped fast and he launched himself towards the strangers, not caring at all if he pushed or knocked them aside just as the water came bursting through the tunnel. Nuriko reacted fast, managing to stop the rushing water in it's tracks, but Thanatos wasn't sticking around. Whatever had happened, be it from Argus or not, Thanatos knew one thing: he was not going to drown here. He couldn't remember much before he had awoken but he did know that he did not want to go back there just yet. Reid had barely spoken when Thanatos was rushing after the equine. He absently thought how foolish it was to be following someone he didn't know, but then again he figured the common horse would know these tunnels better than anyone else. Plus with the threat of hundreds, if not thousands of gallons of water bearing down on them, Thanatos figured this was his best bet.

Raksha So how many times must you fall to your knees Never, never, never, never Never do this again" "
3 | 266A faint and disparagingly snort escaped her nostrils involuntary when Nuriko stepped in front of the group to shield the strangers from the frustration and impatience of the kirins. As if he could hold them back if they decided to fight their way out of it. Luckily the situation seemed to slowly ease up, and the mare relaxed. However this moment of calmness only appeared to last for the blink of an eye, then, all of the sudden, the earth around them started to tremble. Within seconds stone and dust rained down onto the group and the quake almost knocked her off her feet.
Crack.
Dust in her eyes, her nostrils, whirling around her. Small stones and sharp-edged fragments hit her back, her antlers, her head.
A lever switched in her head.
Past and current horror combined, repressed all reason and left the otherwise coolly mare in blind panic. The deafening roar of the water masses gave her the rest. Raksha didn't needed Nurikos orders to leave. She was already running.
The large kirin bolted past the other group members and galloped in long strides towards the city. Through the collapsing ceiling shone Ignacios light into the century old tunnels of Sirith, but she didn't even noticed that. Her mind was screaming and her hearth racing. She was unable to focus on anything than her own panic.
Not this time. Not again. Fuck earth, and arcane, and water. The elements tried to kill her. Again.

A M I T Y
of the Kawaru Breimians
......
Amity was as close to truly relaxing as she could get in the situation at hoof. Nuriko had stepped further in front of the Kirins. She was expecting to carry on a conversation calmly with the antlered creatures, Nuriko and her counterparts as they headed back towards the city where they would further discuss how to get the Kirins and Nuriko rested up and out to safety. But before all that could happen, Reid piped up...and not with a positive attitude. Amity felt her heart skip a beat at the stallion’s outright aggressive words towards the and her bright red eyes widened. Before she could cover the words spoken with something a bit more sensitive to the situation, Nuriko spoke and defended himself.
However before she could apologize on the behalf of her Kawaru acquaintance, the walls around the group began to shake. Stones and debris began to crumble from the top of the tunnel. One landed on her head, a few more on her back. A gasp escaped her lips as she gazed at her city, one of the walls crumbling before them...the wall harboring her very own home. It crashed to the ground in a cloud of dust.
The chimeric mare froze where she stood, gaping at her destroyed home first, then at the wall of water the unicorn was holding back from flooding and sweeping them away. It was unlike her to freeze, but given the terror and trauma of the situation she couldn’t help herself to move. All she could do was stand and stare as the others ran.

Reid
He moved quickly, looking behind him to see who had followed. The steely-black kirin had chosen to run after Reid, the other two having gone out blindly into the tunnels. But he wouldn't risk chasing after them. He noticed Amity and Arges were still beside Nuriko. The familiar sense of protectiveness overcame Reid when he spotted Amity, unmoving. Frozen. It was a familiar feeling to him, to freeze up in terror at the sight of such a destructive force. It was the recollection of those moments that caused him to halt, hooves sliding over the damp rock before he found footing. "Amity!" he called toward her from farther in the tunnel. It came out more like a horrified shriek over the sound of the water, voice wavering. He attempted to call out again, but by that time his hooves were moving for him. He looked toward Thanatos, a moment of hesitation that caused him to slow in his stride. Reid had been raised to help others. To put others' lives above his own. Knowing that someone was safe was more relieving than any narcotic, and a sense of pride would fill his chest after saving someone's life. It was the same yearning to save others that made Reid impulsive. But he had another task. To take the ones who followed him to safety. Still, he screamed after the mare, his voice growing weaker the farther he got. Eventually he grew silent, turning a few corners before trotting into a sloping cavern, one that opened into the brightness of Sterling. It was there he spotted the red-scaled kirin (having nearly crashed into the poor guy), standing shell-shocked in place as he awaited for Nuriko. He stopped, turning his own gaze into the tunnels. But unlike Mairon, Reid lingered in hopes that the fellow Kawaru would be seen running through. Post 5 | 308 words

Arges | Driven
Arges took a deep breath when Reid spoke up from the back. He tried reaching the kirins' thoughts, but was met with hostility from Thanatos and stopped there, thinking it best not to reach too far. It seemed nobody on this side of the tunnel had the right words for the situation, but then again, how could they? Kirins were painted as monsters from the very beginning, then they suddenly arrived in the herd through lightning and smoke. It was like the monsters had stepped right from the pages of a book and had turned out to be equines all along. Reid's words were almost expected. Attention was turned to Nuriko and as the unicorn spoke, Arges was put at ease. He was right. If the kirins were released from the tunnels and sent away, they could get back to focusing on the herd. Things were just going to get more out of hand if focus was divided. Perhaps, once the herd was stable again, they could approach a kirin issue again without losing their heads.
Arges found himself nodding a bit as Nuriko wrapped up. Though, he felt something under his hooves. A shaking. The groaning of the tunnel walls combined with the shaking of the rocks around them made it seem as if a great beast was crashing through the tunnel toward them. But the beast wasn't huge and terrible at first. First there was a trickle of water that ran between the group's hooves. Things got eerily quiet. The trickle of water became a steady flow and accompanying it was a loud roar.
"GET INTO THE CITY! NOW!"
The Driven blinked as Nuriko took on the weight of the newly arrived torrent. He watched wide eyed as the kirins all bolted past him and the others. The wet ground around his hooves began to steam again and water bubbled around them. Reid had shouted and taken charge of the run, at least as much as he could considering. Now Amity and Arges stood facing the crashing water that Nuriko struggled to hold back. First it had been fire that once surrounded and terrified him. Now it was water. Ignacio's flame fed off his fear and growing anger. He wasn't about to let his home be destroyed again. The little water around his hooves boiled up and flames wrapped up and around his body. Steam billowed up from where he stood as the horse looked to Amity. Through his mind's voice he shouted at the chimera.
"Move!"
His tone burned like the fire he was coated with and much like the fire, he could hardly control it. Arges looked through the flames at Nuriko and remained in the flooding tunnel. He shouted across the floor at the unicorn, "We need your help to free the kirins! The group has moved, you have to hurry now!" And again he focused in on the thoughts of another, this time speaking to Nuriko privately. "Don't be a hero. Not this way." Word Count - 500

NURIKO
The weight of the water felt nearly as heavy as the weight of all decisions leading up to this. His time in Briem, his life, his choices... Tears started to trickle down his face, feeling the weight of the water nearly crushing him. Head shook weakly, hearing, feeling the hooves, voices and presences behind him. "G-get out!" Nuriko begged, the words pushed out through a chest that felt too constricted. Yet... Arges stayed behind. The equine could feel his body giving out, the force of the water and having to redirect it further down the tunnel but the more water that filled it the heavier it was getting to move it.
"We need your help to free the kirins! The group has moved, you have to hurry now!" ... "Don't be a hero. Not this way."
"I'm NO ones hero!!" Nuriko screamed back, unsure if he was talking out loud or in the others head. "I've done nothing but bring fear and anger in my wake! How can I be a hero?!" It was clear the Unicorn was cracking under the weight of everything. A yell left him as a bit of water spilled over him, feeling the cold drench into his hide before he was able to push it back into the water wall. Eyes clenched further closed, wanting to just sob and give up.
----
As the group gallops into the city the damage to the surroundings are done. Houses are crushed and collapsed, with bright light washing into the area. Cries for help come from every direction, and the wreckage looks mainly to be on the edges of the city. While you wait for the Unicorn and the others to come from the tunnel, you feel you could be doing more, maybe...

Thanatos
Thanatos did not stop until he was well out of the tunnels. Ears straining, he listened to see if Nuriko had managed to deal with the water or if he had drowned when he saw the city. The kirin turned and looked around, ignoring Mairon and Reid who lingered by the tunnel. Houses had crumbled, swept away by the massive and sudden rush of water. Was this the work of another God? His hooves squelched from the mud under hoof, his icy eyes roaming over the destruction when he spotted Raksha, blindly galloping out of one of the tunnels a little ways below him. He expected her to stop when she saw she was out, but instead, she kept running.
That was not like her.
Thanatos took off after the thundering kirin, weaving through the fallen houses, jumping over rubble that he couldn't avoid. The ground was slippery, and once or twice he thought he would loose his footing. He gritted his teeth, spotting the kirin through a break in the fallen houses. "Raksha!" Thanatos called to her, ducking through the gap and falling into stride, right behind the mighty kirin. He could almost smell the fear, the panic radiating off of her. It triggered something in the back of his mind, a memory he couldn't quite reach but it threatened to fill him with the same fear and panic as her. Putting on a burst of speed, trying to push the feeling aside, Thanatos came up alongside her. Far away in the distance he could see the destruction starting to lessen, where the residents of this now crumbled city were starting to look. "Raksha, you need to stop!" He reached out and as hard as he must, he went to bite her on the shoulder. They didn't need witnesses, but he could see them looking. Perhaps they wouldn't look at them, perhaps they would be too wrapped up to notice the two kirins charging towards them. Thanatos could only hope. Even with the destruction of the city and the fear of the tunnels flooding again. Thanatos was determined to leave this place, especially before the blame of this destruction was put on them.

Raksha So how many times must you fall to your knees Never, never, never, never Never do this again"
4 | 457 For a few minutes that seemed brief and endless at the same time, the only thing the mare could hear was blood roaring in her ears and the frantic beating of her heart. She was already far enough away from the tunnels and Nuriko that propably still tried to fight off the water masses. The earth also stood still again, but yet she kept running. It was no conscious decision. The presence hadn't had her back yet. Instead she saw lightning and the shadow of a huge creature that fell from the sky. Then painfully bright light - thunder bolts.
Suddenly her vision became clearer again and Raksha slowly started to become aware of her surroundings again. While her memories were just a large, frustrating patchwork rug, her instincts and muscles still worked as good as in her previous life. Subconsciously the former dragon hoplite noticed that someone was following her with great strides and immediately her ears pinned back. Yet she still showed no intentions to get any slower, until...
SNAP
The sudden pain from Thanato's bite brought her back. The mare came to a halt almost violently. Her cloven hooves scraped across the stony ground and she could even see some sparks, caused by the friction. Sore muscles wouldn't probably be the only thing she would gain from this panic-stricken escape. "Thanatos?" she asked, still a little confused. The overwhelming feeling of fear and pain was still there, but much duller now and she was able to distinguish reality from fractured memories again. Her breath came in gasps and her coat was covered in sweat and dust. "I have no idea what have come to my mind...Thank's for stopping me"
Only now she became aware of the destruction around them. Warm light shined upon a crushed city and made the whole situation look disturbingly macabre. From a collapsed building nearby came cries for help. More horses were screaming in the distance. The mare turned her head to look at the dark kirin again. "Do you hear that? We have to help them..." Deep inside she hoped that Thanatos would insist on going. So she would have an excuse for leaving too. For a moment her thoughts drifted away to Mairon and the rest of the group. Did they managed to escape as well? For sure, they probably just didn't ran as far or as fast as she did. And Nuriko? What had happen to him?
The Upperworld was now so close by...and yet she couldn't turn away from the horror. She wouldn't turn her back on the screams, even if this was probably smarter.

Mairon [ post # 4 || word count: 398 ] |
1…….2…….. Mairon counted the seconds after emerging from the tunnel. Dimly he was aware of both Thanatos and Raksha as they emerged at a furious pace from the watery death trap. This small sense of relief was drowned with mounting anxiety for Nuriko. Where was he? Come to think of it Arges had not exited the tunnel either. The kirin’s long tail lashed about his hooves as he paced back and forth. ……7……….8…….. Reid had come out of the tunnel and was quite close. “Did Nuriko and the other two follow you?” He asked trying to keep the desperation from his voice. He knew it was a pointless question but the smith could think of nothing else to do.
Somewhere someone was crying for help, it was close and it was enough to break into Mairon’s agitated mind. Not far away at the edge of the buildings a form was stuck under a piece of rubble. He paused, struggling between the impulse to help and the impulse to turn away and continue his intense watch of the tunnel entrance. Another plaintive cry, Mairon snorted in irritation but knew it was what Nuriko would have done. He trotted over still counting off the seconds. …...32……….33……
A bright red glow appeared as the metalsmith gripped the piece of debris with his teke, the stone was heavier than expected and he had to strain to shift it enough to allow whoever was pinned beneath to wriggle free. As soon as they were he didn’t pause for their gratitude or more likely their horror at seeing a kirin standing over them. He trotted back to the yawning mouth of the tunnel. Nuriko had now been in there for a couple minutes. Mairon was practically pracing with anxious energy, all this destruction and the recent earthquake did not help, it fact he could feel a memory pushing into his consciousness. It was of another time when destruction had rained from above and he had been powerless to do anything except look up and watch it descend. No- he forcibly pushed the emerging memory down, there would be time enough later to analyze it and all the weighty emotions it held. For now he was alive and if his beloved didn’t show up soon the kirin was going in after him. He was not going to lose everything again.

of the Kawaru Breimians
......
Before the wall of water, Amity felt helpless. It was so large and in the dim lighting she could see the ripples running through the liquid as Nuriko’s strength began to falter. But her strength faltered as well, not so much physically but mentally. So much so it affected her physical ability to move. All of it suddenly caught up to the chimeric mare. Her friends’ deaths, her parents’ deaths before she could mend the rift between them, her childhood home in flames, and now her new home that she had helped build from the ground up had been destroyed right before her eyes. All she had was taken from her. Faced with the loss and imminent danger, she was still frozen despite the voices calling out for her both out loud and in her mind. Though the one in her mind did make the pony mare jump and cry out. “Reid!!!”
Why his name was the only thing she said she had no idea, maybe it was because his was the first voice that reached her ears. She had no idea if she could be heard by anyone, for she only could sense the thoughts of Nuriko and Arges. Suddenly flame overwhelmed her senses already filled with water, which splashed her coat a bit when Nuriko slipped up. Upon hearing what the unicorn screamed, Amity’s heart, though broken, went out to him. She couldn’t leave him. She couldn’t run. So she fell to the ground beside the King’s Guide, tears already streaming down her cheeks. This was all so much, she felt like she would overflow.
“Nuriko, you are a hero! You’re doing what others couldn’t even dream of doing. You’re helping Ignacio’s creations to freedom. That will help restore Breim to a condition where it can recover and move forward. You’re a catalyst to all of that, Nuriko!” she called to him, pressing her shoulder to his. She didn’t know him very well, but she would rather die than leave him behind. It’s not like she had much left anyway, so she had to do her best to help.

Reid
The seconds felt like hours, and the longer he stood there, the more intense the dread in his chest became. He waited, his limbs eager to pace but his body was locked into place. He even hoped that the unicorn had made it out alive. After all, he was risking everything to save the kirins. But he knew two others stood deep in the tunnels. With all kirins out, that only left Arges and Amity, left in the hands of an Umare. He grit his teeth, knowing he should stop his worrying over them. He had others to be more concerned about - the ones who weren't fortunate enough to get themselves out.
The cries for help and groans of pain finally pulled him to his senses, and on shaking legs he moved away from the mouth of the tunnel. He swayed, some from the aftershock of the earthquake that still caused the ground to shift, and some from the nauseating feeling, the fear, the sight of crushed equines. Some breathing and some smothered by Kaia's earth. Yet he continued to run, his legs pushing him through the streets that weren't blocked by debris, pushing passed the others and to his home. He had hope, and enough of it to calm his nerves for the time being.
It felt like he had been running forever, when he stumbled upon the house. The roof was caved in and the northern and eastern walls were obliterated. Indications of a rolling boulder. Reid's eyes flickered rapidly over the destruction, searching for a soft grey coat and warm blue wings. 'Perhaps she is not here,' he thought to himself, allowing the tension in his shoulders to relax.
He stood for only a moment before a cry interrupted his thoughts, one from farther down the street. Turning, he finally spotted it what he had been anxiously looking for. A plume of blue feathers filled his vision, fragile bones broken beneath a blood-stained rock. He allowed for his legs to give out from beneath him, and the silent sob to tear through his throat. He was too scared to move any closer, terrified of the truth - that his mother was dead, her heartbeat still and her sides unmoving, no longer carrying breath from her lips to her lungs.
The world was spinning. But everything seemed to stand still, becoming static in his ears. The only thing he could hear was the pounding in his heart, drumming in his chest. This wasn't fair. Post 6 | 415 words
