JUST... A few. Ruaridh & Muiris share a bro-bonding session in The Merry Widow
RUARIDH | WARFORGED | SHIELD What was it with Valkyries? It seemed that the more they trained, the cockier they got. They just didn't know when to stop! You'd hope that Hira's level headed attitude would rub off on them, but that was not to be. Numerous times he'd been training, only to be approached by one of the fillies for a sparring match. He entertained their challenges, but honestly? It was becoming rather tiresome- having to succumb to their requests for the sake of teaching. He was a warrior, not a mentor. Though, truthfully, the butterscotch stallion was seen more and more to be exactly that.
Today had been, challenging, for want of a better phrase. He'd been on patrol with another, younger, less experienced Shield. Now, Ru's patience knew no bounds. Whilst in his younger years he would have been somewhat brash and thoughtless, the very thought of having a younger colleague in his charge seemed to bring forth his... Paternal side? Perhaps the wrong phrase to use.
So, it was, that they were set upon by mountain cats. The day was just getting better and better, by all accounts. Thankfully, he was able to pull his comrade into some sort of useful formation, and they managed to throw the beasts from the edge of the pass. Had Ru not been using his noggin, he'd more than likely have fallen with them. As it was, they had survived, and Ru was in desperate need of some sort of... Enriched, beverage.
He'd bid farewell to the young Shield at the mouth of Skeldr market, and made as if to be journeying home, but he sidestepped rather brusquely into 'The Merry Widow', a tavern just on the edge of the town square that was frequented by all and sundry. Most of her patrons found themselves staring into the bottom of thick foam topped ale, after ale, drowning their days with the promise of a bleary memory in the morning.
So, true to form, he picked a table towards the back of the gloomy, wood ridden room, and requested a tankard of mead to be delivered. The fire crackled and popped, and beyond the thick, hoof made glass of the window panes, snowflakes had started to flutter down from a bruised and gravid sky of clouds.

Muiris - War-Forged Raider -
The stallion's eyes widened as he glanced down at the tiny little merchant, her light blonde hair bouncing against her neck as she seemed to bounce with excitement through the snow. Her small wings flapped about, only adding emphasis to her confusing story that she had been telling all morning. How Muiris ended up meeting these strangers was totally unknown to him, but today he had been stuck hearing the story of a small, pony mare's journey during her last rounds. He had trouble keeping up, but had plastered a smile on his features nonetheless and nodded here and there to show he was listening. If there was a pause in her conversation, he would throw in a oh really?, yeah, oh, thats so cool, what did you do then? and then peppy little mare's voice would pop back up excitedly. Muiris flicked his ears to the side, his head held high as the pair walked through Skeldr town, their hoof beats nearly echoing off the cobblestone walk. It amused the large roaned stallion how few and far between his steps were, and how hers sounded like a tapdance in order to keep up with his long stride. He tried to slow down the best he could, but it was painfully slow.
"And then do you know what he said to me? The bastard told me i was charging too much for beads! For beads?? I have the cheapest pieces around- i didnt ask for his opinion" The mare continued with an irritated snort. Muiris's ears flicked forward as they neared the tavern, the sweet smell of whatever drink had just been brought to the next customer reaching his nostrils. He would kill for a drink right now, and he never joked about that. He shook his head as the mare poked his shoulder, trying to get his attention back. The large stallion snorted and narrowed his brow. "How terribly of him, he has no right to speak to you like that." He replied, giving a sigh of relief when the mare took that as a response. Muiris clearned his throat and flicked an ear in the tiny pegasus' direction. "So sorry to cut our conversation short, but i.. uh.. was supposed to meet a friend here. And look- there he is." Muiris looked up just in time to see a butterscotch figure disapear through the doors of the tavern. Of course, he wasnt actually friends with said stranger, but he was hoping the mare would believe him.
The mare peeked around him and smiled, glancing back up at the larger stallion she had been bothering all morning. "Oh, do tell him i said hello." She said with a giggle before prancing off to go bother the next unsuspecting passerbyer. Muiris dropped his head, his eyes rolling back to the doors as he strolled toward them. Goodness, merchants always had so much to say, and never really knew when to keep their traps shut. He pushed the heavy wooden doors open and stepped in the warm tavern, his spiked horseshoes clopping loudly against the hard floor as he weaved his way toward the back. His gaze landed on the shorter stallion he saw before.. and he happened to be at his usual table as well. Muiris huffed and glanced around, but none of the others near the back were either open nor clean. Well, looked like it was time to make a friend today.
"Mind if i join you?" He asked, his deep brown eyes giving the lighter stallion a glance as he approached the table.

RUARIDH | WARFORGED | SHIELD There was no such thing as peace and quiet. Not where the tavern was concerned, at any rate. Sometimes the static white noise that raged beyond his mind was a comfort. The steadily falling snow, and the raucous laughter and bantering made for an excellent distraction. The anniversary of the mountain pass avalanche, and the loss of Etta. They were things that he needed distraction from, quite desperately. Ru had been staring into the thick foam that adorned the top of his drink, his attention fixed on the way in the bubbles grew and then ruptured. The sound barely reached over the dull hum and slur of inebriated voices. His mind drifted, combing through thoughts that wound around each other in an indiscernible tangle. Memories, and their associated deep seated emotions rose to the surface along with each tiny bubble that rose to collect beneath the generous sheet of foam.
The dull thud of gargantuan hooves against the flagstones that made up the tavern resonated up the pillars of his own limbs, but barely touched his conscious train of thought. A barmaid nudged against him, knocking him off balance and almost sent the tray she was carrying flying across the void. Ru scowled after her with all of the energy of a flag on a still day. He huffed a soft snort, his muzzle twisted in a grimmace as he dipped his head to take a sip of the rich amber liquid. He swallowed his mouthful hurriedly, lifting his gaze and offering a froth mustache garnished smile-
"OH!" He sputtered, dark tipped ears flicking forwards with interest, eyes wide with surprise.
"Gods... Y'caught me off guard." He chuckled, the froth that adorned his top lip was suddenly remembered. He craned his neck to wipe his snout against his chest. Straightening up, he eyed the space opposite him and twitched an ear in beckoning- "Please... Be my guest."
"Drink?" He caught the attention of a passing bar-mare, and inclined his head towards his new found companion. "You look like you could do with one."
"...I'm Ruaridh." He offered simply, taking another generous gulp of his ale, careful not to pick up the froth along with it.

Muiris - War-Forged Raider -
The stallion quirked his brow and flicked his ears forward in curiousity as the stranger glanced up at him, froth lining his top lip from grabbing a drink. The other stallion seemed to be distracted, distant, almost as if he hadnt heard Muiris' deep voice in question. He opened his mouth to repeat his question when the dun stranger suddenly sprang to life, babbling on faster than Muiris could keep up. A hesitant smile crossed the larger stallion's face as he took his place at the table, glancing up at the beckoned waitress. He recognized her- she always seemed to be working on days that she came in. "Sure could, thanks." He said, giving her a nod as she scurried off to grab his regular. Beer. Nothing fancy or flavored.. just.. beer. He turned his attention back to his new companion and flicked his ears forward, quickly studying the smaller war-forged and commiting his name to memory.
"Nice to meet you, im Muiris." He replied, just in time for the waitress to return and slide his drink his way. Muiris gave a happy sigh, all his muscles seeming to relax at once at the sight of the bubbling drink. Just a few of these, and this day would easily turn into the best day ever. He took a sip, his dark amber eyes glancing back toward his new friend. He chuckled lightly, setting it back down on the table a little harder than intended. "You seem a bit worse for the wear today, Ruaridh.." He mentioned cooly, one ear flicking back in hopes he wasnt stepping over any boundaries. He normally didnt like to give his input, but it seemed they both had rather interesting mornings, so why not talk about them? "Hows your day been? Not too terrible, i hope." The stallion added before burrying his muzzle once more into the cold drink. He could smell the alcohol in his nostrils, feel it settling in his stomach. It was as if each sip chipped away part of his day.. one by one.
