Y O R U
The young royal sat, listening intently to any and all words the larger tutor said. Yoru loved Daigorou's teaching and the way he utilized books only made it that much more exciting! He was slowly coming out of his shell more and more each time he saw the larger stallion. Today was no different. As the little Pegasus stepped up to the bookshelf to put one of the books back, his light orange teke took hold of another and pulled it down. trotting back over to the table in the library he set it down and looked up at the father figure. "Dio..." He asked softly, voice still timid. "Can I move onto these studies? Or should I focus on something else?" The history book before him was old and tattered, showing its age easily. He flipped open the first page and blew off the dust, the action tender and caring. Books were valued to the youngster, highly valued.
He loved being surrounded by the books and shelves. The smell alone was like nothing else and he couldn't believe that Diony wanted to teach here, almost every time. Good wing shifted and fluttered, stretching as the appendage within the sling moved a bit to get a bit of blood flowing back into it. The long hair hung over his red eye, hiding it from view.

Ozzer | Guide
Small hooves clicked across the polished stone floors of the palace. This was nothing out of the norm. As a guide he was here every month. Well, maybe not quite here. He looked up. He was not familiar with this exact part of the palace. Typically he was never far from the receiving room, where someone would stamp his certificate, but this part of the palace didn't seem too different. Just more doors hiding more secrets.
He looked down at the secret that had brought him here - this thing. It wasn't a secret in that no one knew he had it, no, but it seemed to hold a secret. Ever since he had found it a few months ago it had sat heavy in his saddlebag and in his mind. There was something about it that had kept him from getting rid of it, and the same feeling that kept him from asking around about it. It didn't seem like the kind of thing just anybody should be discussing. But that was why he had finally come to the palace.
Over the past few weeks a feeling of unease had been growing in his belly. He hadn't been sure what it was at first, and still wasn't entirely sure. But after a while he had begun to realize it wasn't in his gut at all, but in his hooves. His tremor sense was picking up small vibrations - or, he had thought they were small. He had thought it was a small, constant fissure growing through the ground. But as it slowly grew in intensity he realized it was quite large, just very far away. But growing nearer. There were even tremors large enough to be felt by others (Daisuke had been quick to alert him to the quake, briefly excited that he had suddenly developed tremor sense like his father), though really they were still small quakes in relativity. Ozzer wasn't sure what it meant - he had never felt such a widespread shifting of the earth, and it was almost overwhelming enough for him to block out his tremor sense. But it was worrisome enough that he simply pushed it back, allowing it to be felt, but only just enough that he could monitor it. But the growing unrest from the earth and the artifact had finally pushed him to seek some answers.
He had met Daigorou half a year ago, when the High King himself had called on them to help escort him to the Temple of Argus. The stallion, though not much older than Ozzer himself, had seemed wise beyond his years, and a trusted confidant of Hajime. As a professor, perhaps he would have some idea what this artifact was and bring Ozzer's questions to rest. If nothing else, it would be nice to finally talk to someone about it.
"The library," the Watch member that was leading the donkey through the palace announced, motioning towards two large doors.
Ozzer hadn't seen many libraries, but if he had tried to imagine a library door they'd look like this. Somehow both simple and ornate, giving off a feeling of age that mimicked the books it held. He nodded to the watch as thanks, tucked the artifact back into one of his bags, and pushed through the doors.
The smell was musty, and, yes, old. He looked around briefly, offhandedly taking in the sight of all the books, before settling his eyes on the table around which were gathered a few equine. One he did not know, but there was Diogo. He bowed to them, the greeting slightly over-formal given the setting and in case the pegasus was a royal. "I hope Argus has seen you well, Diogorou."

Daigorou Baudin | 1
The tutor was reading over Yoru's essay. The colt was talented and devoted, and his writing was always a pleasure to read, regardless of the stray error every couple of pages. Daigo was happy to have such a bright pupil under him. Yoru was able to articulate himself through writing better than he could when he spoke, but the boy was coming out through his writing nonetheless. The grullo didn't want Yoru to see him as an authority , but as a peer in his endeavors to learn more. The truth was that Daigo saw himself in the young Pegasus , and tried to comfort him the way Eos had. Still deep in his reading, he was called back to reality with a soft "Dio..." to which the stallion turned his head, eyes lingering on the last sentence. "... Yes, Yoru?" he said, finally looking to the colt whose eyes were fixed on the treasure he pulled from the shelf. "Can I move onto these studies? Or should I focus on something else?" the boy asked, obviously hoping for one answer. "Well, let me see..." The tutor said as he too the book into his own teke. Quite obviously an old book, but not unloved. "Doing a survey on history, hm? Well, I suppose we can take a break from traditional poetry for a trip down memory lane. I'd like you to to tell me what you find-" he was already gone. Daigo smiled before finishing, "And tell me any questions you might have, Yoru..." The tutor shook his head and pulled out his journal and made a note. Bring Yoru "The traveler's handbook: an adventure through history" As his pen left his paper, the main doors opened. Daigo stood and gave Yoru a settling look, sending him back to his book. As Dio went to meet this intruder, he was met with happy surprise. An old acquaintance, Ozzer the Guide. "I hope Argus has seen you well, Daigorou." the donkey bowed. Ever the wary of company, this one. Daigo spared a look over his shoulder to the Pegasus watching them curiously, only to send his eyes back to his book. Dio bowed to Ozzer, "I return the same sentiment to you, Ozzer. Please, come. This is Yoru, one of my students. We were just on a break, so your timing is impeccable. Please, tell me, what brings you here to the palace today?"405

Little Bird | Breim | Outsider
Little Bird scanned the aisles carefully, her hooves carrying her through the towering shelves. She tried her best to be quiet, to keep her hoofsteps from being heard despite the silence of the room that seemed to make every move she made sound like an earthquake. Walking with her large, russet-colored wings folded tightly to her body, the Outsider surveyed the palace's library. No matter how many times she saw it, it still baffled her that there were so many books in one place and that so much knowledge was only pages away from anyone who wished to pick up a book.
She didn't always come with Dio to his work. Most days she stayed home with their children and took care of them as well as their home, but she couldn't say that she didn't enjoy seeing her husband in his element doing the work that he loved. She stole a glance at him sitting at a table with one of his pupils, reading over some work that the young royal had done. Little Bird could see the attention and devotion that he gave to each of his students as if they were all his own children in some way. It warmed her heart to know that he was doing something that he loved this much and that he was making a difference in so many young individual's lives.
While she wasn't the studious type, Little Bird had been taught to read growing up. Her father had said that it was important for a Vindicator to be literate and not sound like a rampaging barbarian, so while Dio worked, she curled up in a comfy chair nearby his desk, a book rested gently in front of her.
Her attention drifted between the occasional movement of the equine around her to the book that lay open in front of her until the large wooden doors to the study opened and a small donkey entered the room. Her ears perked up as he approached Daigorou, and her brown eyes glistened with curiosity. It wasn't peculiar for someone to want to speak with Dio. He was often approached for advise or his expertise, but something told her something was a little different about this meeting. There was a subtle urgency in his gait and posture that made her sit a little more upright and begin to decipher if anything was wrong. The warrior in her itched to be unleashed, ready to strike and defend if the need be.

Y O R U
Yoru knew the tutor would give him permission and the equine was settling back at the table before the large stallion could even finish his sentence. Eyes absorbed each page as if it was air. He needed the knowledge, soaked in it. The library had always been a safe place. So when the main doors opened, the young royal startled and quickly settled back down with the calming reassuring look from his teacher. Yoru could not stop his head from lifting anyways, ears flickered forward as he tried to tune in.
Catching eyes with Dio he quickly looked back down at the book and only half started to read. Yet as his name was spoken, Yoru closed the book and looked upon the donkey with nervous but curious eyes. Doev had been doing all he could to get the young prince more accepting of other Briemians. Especially with the way everyone's cards where starting to play, Yoru was realizing more and more that he could not just hide in the shadows anymore.
Head tipped and his hoof tapped the stone floor twice. "They have seen us meet." He answered as politely as he could. The other pegasus by Dio's desk was stirring as well and Yoru could feel his anxiety spiking. Was something happening? Was he in trouble?

Ozzer | Guide
Ozzer bowed his head to Yoru, a less time consuming greeting than a full bow, but one to acknowledge the direct introduction and subsequent greeting. The roan pegasus that also sat nearby did not speak, which was just fine with the quiet donkey, but he gave her a small bow of the head as well before turning his attention fully on the professor. "I was wondering if you might could tell me about something." In the dim light of the room his blue teke was nearly invisible as he unbuckled his saddlebag, and withdrew the artifact. He set it gently on the table between him and the scholars. For a brief moment he simply stared at it. There was something so ancient and mysterious about it that he often found himself doing this while resting at night. It held some kind of answer, but what was the question? He looked up, studying Dio's face for any sign of immediate recognition. But would a quick answer - to find that it was something simple, like a key to a palace closet, be a let down or a relief? "I found this some months ago while," he hesitated briefly. He wasn't so sure he wanted to go through an explanation of the whole adventure with the kirin and the hidden room. "... leading a group through the Labyrinth. It was in an unmarked cave, just sitting on a pedestal." He gently flipped the relic over, showing off the carvings on both sides of the object. "There were runes like these written on the cavern walls." Now he rummaged through his pack, giving the others time to look the object over before finally pulling out his journal. He flipped it open to a page, on which were sketched some similar runes. "I don't think these are exact, and it definitely isn't everything that was written on the walls, but it was all I could remember. The cavern collapsed behind us, so there is no chance to go back."Even now vibrations of the earth echoed through his body, and his stomach tightened a little. "I was hoping you might know what it is, or at least know someone that might." His eyes roamed to the many books around the room. He had never seen so many in one place, and couldn't imagine the answer wasn't somewhere in here.

Daigorou Baudin | 2
The tutor listened as Yoru interjected with the newcomer, first praising the boy’s willingness to interact, then realizing that his own eagerness has seen custom forgotten, even thou Yoru so eloquently followed tradition. The tutor scolded himself before returning to the realm of the living. Ozzer had brought Daigo a mystery. A small totem of sorts, clad in some meaning that was long forgotten. He looked the artifact over, lifting it gently with his teke. How strange it was, but very... important, for lack of a more fitting word. The creation of this object was very obviously meticulous, the carvings were delicate and clear. The grullo’s inspection had gone on for several minutes, unbeknownst to him. He looked up with a smile on his face, having been enjoying the chance to marvel such a thing. He looked to the other faces watching him, the faces which expected something of him. His face dropped as he put the relic gently down again. “It’s lovely, but still a mystery to my eyes. I’m sorry, but maybe if I knew more?” He asked as he set his glasses on the table between them. Ozzer carefully recounted the story, but cleverly not all. Daigo trusted all the ears around them, but Ozzer didn’t share this luxury. The donkey handed over some scrub lungs of some sort of writing- or maybe they were pictures? Either way, there was something more to see. As the stallion looked over the runes jotted down, he made sure to thank his friend, “This is more than enough, thank you, dear friend.” He returned the glasses to his face. The scribbles seemed to be chaotic, maybe the result of haste, but certainly of nature as well. They were strange and not like any language he knew or even knew of. He looked it over carefully before giving a sigh, “It seems to be come sort of pictorial language, but it’s not one I am aware of. Luckily for us, though, we are in a place where one can become aware. Come with me, we shall go to a more suiting place on the library.” The stallion lead the party deeper into the library, not bulky searching but by memory. He could practically recall the place of every book on these shelves. The stretches of bookcases could be dizzying to an untrained eye, but the tutor spent most every day among these texts. The group came upon the section they came in search of, the linguistics area. Daigo aimed the others towards a table in a central location of the shelves. This was not a popular location in the library for visitors, but it was still loved by Daigorou. He walked through the aisles, pulling the odd book here and there until he had a small library on his back. He returned to his friends and set them on the table. His gentleness, though, did nothing to stop a cloud of dust to go flying out as they met the table. The stallion gave a small laugh before looking to the others,”This is where we start.” 525

Little Bird | Breim | Outsider
Little Bird listened carefully with her eyes still trained on the book in front of her to the conversation being held at the table nearby. She heard the polite greeting of the young scholar, Yoru, that Dio was currently studying with as he spoke to the stranger that had approached them. Still as a statue, she sat at her chair, slowly gathering information as the small group conversed. The equine that had walked in to talk with Dio went by the name of Ozzer, and he apparently had a very interesting something that he needed help solving.
Her eyes lifted slightly, curiosity glistening in her gaze, as the donkey pulled an odd artifact from the saddlebag that was strapped around his shoulders. As Dio studied the object, the pegasus mare quietly closed her book and rested it on the small table beside her before approaching them. Little Bird dipped her head and put her right hoof out in a bow to serve as a silent greeting before her attention was snatched by the object held gently in Dio's teke. Her gaze drifted over the symbols engraved on the artifact as Ozzer told them about how the strange thing had ended up in his possession.
"How peculiar," the Outsider muttered quietly, her brows furrowing in concentration. "I can't say that I've seen anything quite like it in my travels." She said with a thoughtful twist of her mouth. The symbols didn't seem to resemble any language that she had come across during her days as a Vindicator, and the fact that it was sitting on a pedestal in some unmarked cave in the depths of the Labyrinth had the gears of her mind twirling. Certainly it had been placed there because it had once served some kind of importance, but what exactly was this thing designed for that someone had thought it important enough to hide it away in a deep, dark cave not many would be able to find?
Enthralled by the hunt and mystery surrounding this artifact, Little Bird followed the group through the towering shelves until they reached a rather dusty part of the library. Her nostrils wrinkled slightly as she felt dust particles tickle her nose. Maybe during Dio's next tutoring session, she'd come back here to do a bit of dusting.
"Would you like some help sorting through all these books, Daigo? More eyes searching for something may be helpful." Little Bird offered, gently taking a large book from the pile.

Yoru was a sensitive creature so when Ozzer merely bowed his head to him, the Young Royal quickly retreated back to his book. Anxious mind tumbled frantically over what he could have done wrong to warrant such a greeting. Not even words... Book was lifted, to frantically hide the expressions filtering over his face. Maybe he should just go home. Clearly Dio knew this individual for a long time as their conversation was quick and to the point. Ears however couldn't help but flicker towards them, listening quietly.
Hearing the object touch the table Yoru's curiosity got the best of him and he tip toed close to take a look at these so called markings. Indeed one side the object was embedded with etchings the boy had clearly seen before. At least he thought he had... Ever the little shadow, Yoru slipped from the table and into the library, following them at a distance before slipping between the shelves. Only when they others had set the books on the table did Yoru wave his good wing at Dio. "D-Dio..." The voice was tiny and clearly uncertain. "I-I can go home i-if this is for adults only but... But I saw some of those etchings over here..."
Nearly shivering the large hoofed equine gestured with his wing tips towards one of the dustiest shelves in the Library. "Do these look similar?" On the shelve itself, worn down from age seemed to be the faintest of etchings, appearing to be similar to those on the artifact.

Ozzer | Guide
The donkey took a moment to look the pegasus mare over as she approached the table. In her travels? It wasn't often that he found anyone in Sirith, particularly in Nariah, that had traveled very far, and he wanted to ask her where she had been. Did she just travel to the surface a lot, or was she perhaps like him - a non-native? But now was not the time. He turned to follow the professor through the library, feeling that small pang of disappointment that he had expected at Daigo's shared uncertainty. But, thankfully, the stallion seemed hopeful in their ability to find something that might give them a lead. "Yes, we might find something quicker if we all help," he said in response to Little Bird. He did not want to rush them, but something about this seemed time sensitive to him. Was it just the unsettling in his stomach from the rumblings of the ground, or was the artifact weighing on his conscience? He gently pulled a book from the stack as much to distract himself as to assist. So caught up in thought, he hadn't noticed the apprentice's absence, or when the young pegasus called Dio over to the shelf. Flipping slowly through the pages Ozzer's eyes scanned back and forth. It wasn't that he was illiterate - his mom had made sure to teach him the basics of readings and writing - but many of these words surpassed his understanding. (The thought briefly dragged his mind away to Daisuke. It was one of the areas in which he worried about his parenting abilities. Life in the tunnels did not provide the foal with much of the tutoring that most Briemians received in foalhood, and he was far behind his peers. But he could at least read, and his attendance at one of Nariah's public schools was the one good thing about leaving him with a trusted family while he attended to important business such as this.) Thankfully he wasn't really having to read anything. The runes were alien enough to seem like pictures, and so it would make them easy to spot among all of the text. But it didn't seem to matter, because he was not finding it anywhere in this book. He closed the book, laid it to the side, and grabbed another off the pile. In doing so he finally realized it was just him and Little Bird at the table. He looked around, spotting Dio and Yoru between two of the shelves. They were discussing a certain book. His large ears perked forward. Could they have found something? Ozzer did not approach, though, in case it was a private discussion between teacher and student, and cracked open the book he had picked up. He started to skim through it, but his attention was divided between it and the other horses whispering across the large room.

Daigorou Baudin | 3
The professor was more than grateful to have the help of his friends. Many eyes was better than his two alone. Just as Daigo reached the midway point of his book, a small voice called him from the shelves. The tutor forgot his students timidness for a moment, blinded by his own eagerness. Of course Yoru wouldn't assume his lead included the young pegasus. The father knew how fickle children could be, and scolded himself for not accounting for the colt. Daigo went and met the colt, hidden between shelves. "Yes, Yoru?" he said kindly, lending his head down to be level with the boy's- or, rather, as level as it could be with the height difference. "I-I can go home i-if this is for adults only but... But I saw some of those etchings over here..." The colt sputtered out. "Yoru, you are always welcome around me, you need not feel uncertain." Daigo took the time to reassure Yoru following his eye line to a long forgotten shelf. "Do these look similar?" the colt asked, knowing the answer, but needing confirmation . "Yes! Yoru! You have proved yourself valuable once again! Thank you!" Daigo was over joyed and pulled the book from the shelf. He gestured Yoru towards the others, "Yoru has found the key to our mysteries. Now, we shall try to solve it." 225

Little Bird | Breim | Outsider
As the two scholars went off to search the shelves in the rather dusty part of the library, Little Bird sat at the table across from the Guide. Her teke reached for one of the books from the large pile and opened it. A small cloud of dust erupted from the novel, causing her to cough quietly and wrinkle her nose. "Geez, I wonder when the last time someone opened some of these books." She said, glancing up at Ozzer for a moment before returning to look for the strange symbols in the pages of one of the books.
"So, Ozzer, what brought you into the Labyrinth? Are you a Guide?" The pegasus mare asked curiously as she closed the book she had in front of her and opened another. It wasn't every day that one was able to speak with a Guide. More often than not, they were busy taking horses from one place to another and making sure no one was lost forever in the dark, winding tunnels that made up Sirith's underground. The adventurer still inside of her itched to know more about the tunnels, to know the secrets that lay within them and maybe one day herself rising to the rank of Guide but that was more of a pipe dream than reality. Not many would trust an Outsider to take them through the tunnels, but a girl could dream!
Her attention was diverted from the book in front of her to Dio and Yoru as Dio pulled a rather old looking book from the shelf with an overjoyed expression towards his student. A smile pulled at the corners of her lips, and she nodded encouragingly at the young pegasus. "Good work, Yoru!" She cheered, sliding the pile of books to one side of the table to give Dio room to place the book for them all to see.
"Now, let's see what we're dealing with here." Little Bird said with an inquisitive glint in her gaze.

Ozzer | Guide
Ozzer's attention was further split when a voice across the table piped up. Had she not said his name he would have completely missed the questions, so focused was he on the book and the other two. He glanced up, slightly nonplussed. "Oh. Yes, I am a Guide." The donkey allowed himself the briefest of moments to commit her face to memory, as he did with most everyone he met. His teke flicked a page to the side, and he looked back down at the book. He did not wish to be rude, so he would make do with multi-tasking. "I have been here some years now." He would certainly not mention his Vagabond ancestry, not now; it was uncertain enough how others would handle mention of his brief, but still inevitable position as an Outsider. "I fell in love with the tunnels," his face softened ever so slightly at those first memories of the glittering gems, "and simply never left them. The Guide that originally led me into the Labyrinth became my mentor, and the rest is the same as any Guide's story, I would assume." His small shoulders shrugged, his face returning to its serious demeanor. This was not the time for reminiscing. Still, he felt that custom demand he ask her something in return, perhaps about her association with the silver grullo stallion or what brought her into the library on such a day. Or maybe what occupation she held. But thankfully an exclamation from Daigo shifted their attention. The colt had found something after all! A smile managed to find its way to Ozzer's face. "Yes, good work," he agreed with a nod. Closing the book in front of him he laid it on the pile that Little Bird had just created off to the side, before crowding around the old tome. The inlaid gold foil on the front had all but been worn off, leaving only faint indentions where it should have been. But even still one could tell that it was the same markings as on the artifact, and his stomach knotted excitedly. He didn't know what this meant, but it meant something. As the book was cracked open dust - even more so than the other books - floated into the air. This time Ozzer gave a small snort, both to clear his nostrils of the dust and the musty smell of the old, obviously unused book. It was filled with symbols just like on the object, plus many that Ozzer did not even recognize from the unmarked cave. Ozzer stared hungrily at them as pages were flipped, hoping this would hold the answers he sought, but it did nothing to satiate his curiosity. If anything it just increased it. The pictographic language meant next to nothing to him, besides more stress. "Can you make anything of this?" the jack asked, almost desperately. The question was directed largely to the professor, being the most learned in the group, but he also turned towards Yoru. He had been the one to remember the book, afterall.

He had done well... The pegasus nearly hid with all the encouragement towards him. It was strange to be in the positive spotlight. With the adults taking the book to the table, Yoru hung back. He wasn't sure exactly where he fit in and surely the older equines knew more about all this then he did. Instead the equine moved back towards the shelf and sat down, peering up at it. His long feathered tail splayed out around him, good wing rustling as his injured one remained tucked close to his side from the harness Doev had gifted him.
He let his mind wander, only snapping out of it as the conversation broke around the table. Ozzer sounded a tad desperate and Yoru flattened his ears, looking down. Dark mane shifted forward, hoof scuffing softly at the floor. He was still so unsure of social interaction but these 3 seemed to at least be alright with his presence. With a small breath he stood and timidly approached the group, dual colored eyes peering down at the book. The symbols where strange and even stranger was the 'Kin' at the back of the book. It looked so much more new then the rest of the dusty volume. Eyes flickered to Ozzer and Dio then to Little bird.
"Maybe... Maybe it's a hint to a bigger puzzle... Like a maze." He swallowed hard. "Maybe... We should look at it from a different angle..." The ceilings where high and Yoru looked up at them. "L-little Bird... Can you go up and see if anything strikes out at you from up there? Something we can't see on this level?" He was trying and Doev was teaching him to consider all angles then just the one in front.

Little Bird | Breim | Outsider
She listened to Ozzer speak as she riffled through the book in front of her for any signs of the symbols they were searching for. Nodding along with his story, she wondered what he had been before he was a Guide. Had he been young enough to not have an occupation before being shown the Labyrinth or had he been something else before falling in love with the dark, secret tunnels? A small smile spread across her lips; she loved when she could see other's passion and love for their jobs or hobbies, and it was obvious that the Guide held a fondness for his occupation and the tunnels.
Little Bird crowded around the book with the other two older equine as the young pegasus, Yoru, hung a few paces behind them, uncertainty painted across his features. With a quick tilt of her head and a step to the side to give him room to approach if he pleased, she turned her attention to the text in front of her.
It seemed to be illegible gibberish with odd symbols covering the pages, but the strange symbols matched those that were etched on the artifact. As they searched for clues within the pages, her brows narrowed more and more in confusion. They were so peculiar and unlike anything that she had ever seen before. Little Bird shook her head slowly as she thought. Her brown eyes flicked to Dio, hoping that he could glean some kind of helpful information from the nonsense before them. As they reached the last page, her eyes widened in surprise. "Kin... What is that supposed to mean? Like family or ancestors?"
Little Bird glanced up at the high ceilings after hearing Yoru's suggestion. It certainly couldn't hurt to take a look from a higher perspective. Flying had certainly helped her out of sticky situations in the past. All she had to do was pray to Argus that no other scholars came in here and saw an Outsider flying around in their library. Not even her status as a pegasus could probably keep her from being kicked out.
"I can certainly try it out. Give me one second." She took several paces away from the table and spread her russet colored wings to their full extent, the tips of them touching the shelves on either side of the small clearing. With a single hard thrust of her wings, she was airborne and hovering over the small group. The symbols in the book were harsh, black lines from her aerial view. A few flaps of her wings held her in place for a few moments longer before she touched back down on the library floor but not before an idea popped inside her head.
"Do you think the symbols could fit together to form something else that makes a little more sense? From up there, it looked like they might fit together somehow."

The book was dusty and worn, sending dust into the ari while laying still. Daigo scanned it's pages, hoping to find some meaning in the symbols strewn throughout the book. some symbols were appeared more often than others, but the professor found no real answer in thier repition. As the group landed on the last page, new ink was written in an attempt at modern scribe, but it was nearly illegible. Kin "Can you make anything of this?" Ozzer asked, generally but pointed to the professor. "Kin... What is that supposed to mean? Like family or ancestors?"
Birdie demanded. Dio sighed "I... It's there in my head i just... can't remember. There's more than just family to it, it's something else..." he trailed, frustrated at his inability to recall. It seemed far away and cloudy. Dio left the others to pace in a weak attempt to recall the word. Kin... Where was that word from? The grullo's subconscious knew, as the word alone turned his stomach and woke up an ache in his heart. He searched and searched his brain until finally he found it. He left Yoru and Birdie to their quest in the air to find a book. He hadn't read it, but knew the story. The city of Kin that fell in the God's war. He fetched a book entailing the story of Kin, hoping for answers. He brought it back to the others. "This is what i remember of 'Kin'. It was a city destroyed in the god's war. The few that survived there met with Argus and started life down in the tunnels- the life we know now. I'm sorry I don't know more, but maybe we can make more of this together..."

Ozzer | Guide
At first Ozzer was worried there would not be an answer to his question. He did not blame the others. It was a puzzle laid out by Argus, and not all of the gods' plans were obvious. But he listened to their ideas openly, having no better ones himself. His eyes followed Little Bird as she rose into the air, briefly taken aback by her defiance of gravity. It was rare that he saw a pegasus in the air anymore. Pegasi were not uncommon in the tunnels, but their wings simply became accessories in the cramped underground, and one was likely to forget they were little more than extra appendages. He marveled at the flap of her wings, before the rustling of the book's pages in the draft she created returned his attention to the task at hand. He looked at the book, cocking his head from side to side in any attempt to read the strange font. He squinted. Dio was right. He felt like he had heard it somewhere before. Whispered somewhere by someone in his many years in the tunnel. But he could neither place a face or a story behind the memory of the whispered word, and was at just as much a loss as before. But suddenly Dio turned away, and Ozzer swiveled his ears in his direction. A small click sounded as Dio tugged the book from the shelf, but the donkey was too distracted by the professor's realization to think much of it. Ah, yes! The legend of the City of Kin! Those were the murmurs he had heard once upon a time. Unfortunately he had little else of the memory, but hopefully this book would provide yet another clue. Ozzer stepped aside to make room for Dio to set the book down, but stopped with one hoof in the air. Slowly he lowered it again. A vibration, very close by, had begun. It wasn't exactly a shifting of the ground itself; it was something sliding along it and the rock of the walls. It wasn't a quake. It was too close, and too small of a vibration. After only a second of the imperceptible vibration the movement picked up force, and the sound of rock on rock slowly scraping against each other picked up volume throughout the library. Ozzer slowly turned his head back in the direction of the shelves where Dio had picked out the book. Ever so slowly a hole, a door, was opening in the wall. It left a dark, and empty void. The entrance of a tunnel. The jack's head turned back to the others, but his eyes remained fixed on the doorway. "Did... did you know that was there?" he asked quietly, guessing the answer. There was nothing in the tunnel. He could sense that. But he had a feeling that there might be good reason for that. His eyes flickered now to the book that Dio had just retrieved. "I believe we may have gotten more of an answer than what's in those words."

Little Bird | Breim | Outsider
Little Bird landed back on the library floor with a quiet click of her hooves as they connected with the hard tile. Her journey to the higher elevation of the library, while a nice opportunity to stretch her wings, didn't seem to provide any helpful information about the oddity that lay before them.
It certainly was a perplexing puzzle. The symbols were so foreign that they didn't resemble any of the written languages she had seen across Hireath, not even the older tongues that no one spoke any longer. Perhaps it was a coded text that someone had left behind that led to something important and only someone with the right knowledge could decode it. Her mind churned with different theories and ideas as the grullo scholar slipped away from the group and headed back into the shelves.
Her head swiveled in Dio's direction as he began to speak, holding an old-looking book in his teke that he had pulled off of the shelf in front of him. The city of Kin... The Outsider's brows narrowed slightly. The name certainly rang a bell in some dark recess of her mind. It was something that she felt like she should know or that she had heard before once upon a time. "Kin? Like the legendary city of Kin?" She said, starting to walk toward Dio to read part of the book to refresh some of her memories of the tales she had heard of the old city before it had been destroyed in the god's war. However, before she had made it even a couple of steps, her ears twitched toward the sound of rock grinding together.
The sound sent her heart pounding in her chest and her Force Fields ability rearing at the edge of her mind, preparing to protect the group if the ceiling around them started to crumble, as she thought her worst nightmare was coming true. While she loved Sirith and the home that her family had built there, having thousands of pounds of rock hanging above her head instead of wide open skies, still wracked her nerves.
Her eyes were widened to the size of saucer plates as she stared at the hole that had opened up in the library wall.
"Did... did you know that was there?" Little Bird heard Ozzer ask with a quiet, shocked tone.
"Heavens above... where do you think it goes?" She asked and her gaze swept over to her husband, an uncertain expression crossing her face. The dark void was ominous but silent as the rock settled into place. Nothing seemed to be lurking in the nearby darkness ready for easy prey to come wandering its way, but she still had the sinking feeling that she was going to be a bit late to pick up her and Dio's children from the babysitter as she peered into the mysterious tunnel.

Y O R U
The small pegasus watched as Little Bird took off. He was envious, yes, that she could Fly and he couldn't. That he had to ask her to do what he couldn't... Head dropped as she landed, folding in on himself. Of course his idea would be silly. As Dio pulled the book from the shelf, Yoru made sure to stand back and out of the way. He scuffed the ground with one hoof, feathered tail shifting as he took a seat.
While everyone had confidence in him, Yoru's confidence lacked severely, to the point it was almost non-existent. Only when the vibrations started, did the dark colt stand with a startled gasp and moved behind Little Bird. Eyes were wide, the dark and ominous tunnel seemed to beckon to them in a way Yoru had never felt before. With a small whimper he pressed closer to Little Bird, unsure why he was afraid, but he was. Never before had something like this happened in the library, a safe place.
"D-do... Do we go into it...?"

Ozzer | Guide
Despite his hesitations, there was no doubt in Ozzer's mind that he would enter the tunnel. Entering dark and sometimes uncharted tunnels was what he did after all. He looked at Yoru and nodded once. "I believe we do." "If you," he directed to the group at large, "do not wish to follow that is alright. I can't say where it leads, but I feel that this object and this tunnel are somehow connected. Whether Kin has anything to do with that or not... I don't know. But I want to find out." His teke gently grabbed the artifact off of the table and tucked it back into his saddlebag. "If you do wish to come, perhaps, Dio, you could read us passages from that book about the city as we walk, as long as someone holds a light for him." He waited only briefly for their answer. He was going, no matter what, and after one last quick glance around he started towards the tunnel, calling back over his shoulder. "Bring lanterns for your own benefit. There is nothing dangerous that I can sense in the tunnel, but I do not know how far it will go."
Ozzer can not say how long they traveled. The tunnel was completely dark - darker than any he had been in. There were none of the glowing gemstones along the path to light their way, and even stranger, no skylights. He got the sense that there were vents somewhere, or else the tunnel would have been oppressively stuffy and would lack enough oxygen for them to continue on for so long, but they certainly never showed any light through them. There also didn't seem to be any off-shooting tunnels. A straight shot. Simply a passageway from one point to another. Never before had he felt so much the effects of an equine-made tunnel, but it certainly lacked any of the livelihood of the natural tunnels. No gems. No stalactites or stalagmites. Vents too small to see but large enough to let in a life-sustaining supply of air. It was just very, very dark, with lots, and lots of cobwebs. The lanterns cast their shadows all against the tunnel walls and floor, and twice into small caverns. They rested in these open spaces, before continuing on. The other three Breimians took turns reading passages from the book about Kin, the voices quiet but echoing through the tunnel until the words seemed to bounce off of their ears. Every now and then they would pause to discuss what had just been read, but Ozzer remained largely silent. He tried often to figure out where they were, but he had lost sense of direction pretty early on. Now all he could tell was when the floor rose and fell imperceptibly beneath their hooves. He felt like they were at a lower elevation than they had been when they started, but couldn't say for sure. Each one of them would, occasionally, try to guess what might be at the end of the journey for them, but it was impossible. When they finally turned a corner for the lantern to show a dead end Ozzer frowned. Nothing? He stepped closer to the opposite wall to inspect it. They traveled all this way for nothing? He frowned harder. "This can't be right," he whispered, sour disappointment creeping into his belly. He knew they hadn't missed any other passages simply because there hadn't been any. If he had been doing this in the darkness he would have thought it possible that there had been, but with the lanterns there was no way they'd missed one. Was he missing something now, or was this really just a dead end? An unfinished tunnel, possibly? That answer was no more preferable. He turned to the others. "I... I don't know," he said in response to an unasked question. "I apologize for bringing you here."

The grullo was too lost in the quiet mutterings of the passages he was reading to hear the door emerge from its secrecy. It was only brought to his attention by Ozzer's note of it. He looked up and his brows furrowed. He felt his wife's blessing start to surface. He sparred her a look and mover closer to her, touching his shoulder to her wing to try and give her some comfort , though he also had none. He felt Yoru cower behind Birdie, and so he moved to try and direct the colt between them. As the others marveled the next course of action, Daigo remained quiet. Instead, his eyes remained fixed on the now gaping hole in the wall. It seemed to stare back. The stallion moved closer to it, leaving Yoru behind with Little bird, trusting that she would protect him far better than he could. A hesitant sigh escaped his lips. Every thought in his mind told him the answer was in that hole, but every ounce of his body told him not to go. "D-do... Do we go into it...?" that was the question, wasn't it? to tread or not to tread. Daigo dropped his gaze to the book still in his grasp. He thought maybe the answer was in a book, as so many were, but he knew now that the answer was not here, but through the tunnel. It was Ozzer who voiced Daigo's thoughts. He let out a sigh, "I don't think our quest ends in any book." he said offhandedly, more to himself than to anyone in particular. Ozzer sensed unease within the group and made those less adamant to enter the doorway fell less pressured . He looked to Yoru. He knew his pupil would hesitate to go down this path. The tutor went to Yoru and met his gaze again, not looking at some other part of his face, but instead, looking into his eyes- something his father would do in times of seriousness. "Yoru, you do not need to feel pressured to go anywhere. There is no shame in proceeding down this path, as its uncertainty is a valid thing to fear. I wholeheartedly think our answer lies within this passage, but you are not bound to this quest." he said to the colt. He kept eye contact while waiting for a reply, no doubt making the colt even more nervous, but the father knew this and knew he needed his seriousness to be understood. Ozzer asked Daigo to read them passages from the book that triggered the appearance of the doorway. He nodded, turning the book to it's side. He looked at the pages, trying to find which sections were the most turned to by scanning the small nicks and bends in each page. In a book as old as this, nearly every page had been turned a thousand times, but still he fell on a section. The After math of the God's war The damage had been done, the capital city of Kin toppled and left in ruin at the Breim herd’s hooves. The few that remained stood amongst their fallen city, surrounded by the caring souls that had come to their aid after the assault. The war had left Breim with little more than the clothes on their backs. Daigo read a bit more, falling to a natural stopping point and turning to another section. Each time he came upon a new section, the feeling deep inside his heart grew. Something was off, but he pushed it down. The silences that fell as he turned pages were eerie and lifeless. He struggled to read in the dim light, but none the less tried. The others offered to read, noticing the stallions occasional trouble. He handed the book off to the others, though not to Ozzer who was entirely focused on guiding them, though that was probably a natural inclination . They stopped briefly , as the length of their journey grew longer than they expected. Daigo spared a thought to the poor caretaker of his children, who always got especially rowdy before bed, which he assumed was around now. He was pulled from his thoughts every now and again by questions and points to clarify, which he did to the best of his ability where he could. Time creeped ever slowly forward as they traveled through the tunnel. Daigo had been reading a passage about Devil birds when he was cut short by Ozzer's abrupt stop. He looked up, eyes seeing nothing in the dark. Ozzer apologized, and Daigo was quick to advert his sorrow, "Ozzer, don't be silly. I don't think it was truly you who brought us here." he implied, leaving the true guide of their journey anonymous . he looked around, eyes still struggling to adjust ."Maybe if we could acclimate to the darkness, we could see something. Can we cover the lanterns? Or put out those we can spare? Do not leave us with no light to find our way back."840
Note that they may have fire-powered lanterns, but also maybe glowstone lanterns!!!!! rocks are cool!!

Little Bird | Breim | Outsider
The feathers of Little Bird's russet wings ruffled in anticipation and uncertainty as she stared at the dark crevice that had opened in the wall. She felt Yoru step behind her and peer over her shoulder at the mysterious opening in case anything came creeping out to attack. Her motherly instincts kicked in, and she laid a gentle, reassuring touch of her teke on the young pegasus's shoulder. Little Bird gave him a nod of her head before she caught her husband's gaze. His shoulder brushed against her wing and anchored her to the present, and the Outsider allowed her mind to relax slightly. This wasn't some kind of attack... she didn't need to be on edge... her family was safe.
"D-do... Do we go into it...?"
The roan mare glanced at the nervous-sounding Yoru before looking back at the tunnel-opening. Her mind whirled with the possibilities of what may be down there and the chances of them getting lost or injured in the dark, unknown tunnels. There were so many things that could go wrong, and yet, the adventurer inside of her knew the decision that she would make, and by the look on Dio's face, it seemed like he was going to go as well and she certainly wasn't going to let her husband go exploring some unknown tunnel without her there.
"I think we need to know for sure what we're dealing with, but not all of us have to go..." Little Bird said, giving Yoru a small smile. It might end up being a dangerous task to go down this tunnel, and she certainly didn't want to make anyone go that didn't want to.
With a lantern gripped tightly in her grasp, she traveled behind Ozzer down the cobwebbed-filled tunnel. Ahead of them, she could see nothing but darkness. It was nothing like the darkness that she had grown used to in Sirith. It was a darkness that swallowed every ray of light that dared tried to shine in its presence. It was suffocating and smothering, and Little Bird tried her hardest not to think too much about it. With occasional looks at Dio for reassurance, she listened to the passages from the book on Kin as they trekked further and further into the tunnel. During her turns to read, she squinted at the dimly lit pages, trying her hardest not to trip as she read.
Her sense of time was completely gone in the darkness of the tunnel, but the long journey through the tunnels was a welcomed exercise for her. Nothing was quite like walking for miles on end... even if she would prefer to explore somewhere a little closer to the earth's surface than they currently were. It reminded her so much of her days as a Vindicator, running and flying through the less traveled parts of Hireath with her team.
Her reminiscing was interrupted as they turned a corner and were greeted with a dead end.
"This can't be right." She heard Ozzer whisper to himself in disbelief, looking at the wall in front of them.
Her heart sank in her chest at the sight of the end of their journey. Maybe this was just an unfinished tunnel that no one had had the chance to finish before the God's War. Upon Dio's request, she put out her lantern, making the area around them darker. As the other lights they could spare were extinguished, she ran her teke down the wall of rock, seeing if it would move to no avail. Just as she was about to give up and turn back around, her teke hit an odd groove in the rock. Furrowing her brow, she formed a small force field, allowing the glow of her blessing to give her a better look. It was an oddly shaped indentation in the stone that was barely noticeable unless you were looking for it. It also didn't look like anything that would occur naturally.
"Everyone, come over here. Bring a lantern. What do you make of this?" She said, examining the strange hole in the rocky surface.

Y O R U
The young prince stared up at Dio as he stepped close. Bi-colored eyes stared into the stallions, nearly shivering from the intensity. But it was good, a good kind of nervousness. Dio was being everything the younger equine needed. Reassuring but also not forceful. A small nod was given, long straight forelock shifting from the subtle action. With the way everyone spoke and acted, Yoru felt confident enough to travel with them. Taking one of the few lanterns with him, large hooves, for his small frame, padded after the group. His shoulder pressed close to Little Bird's legs, allowing the two males to walk closer together. The words of the spoken book filled the space as they traveled forward, the young ones mind tumbling with the info shared. Questions formed and faded on his tongue, unable to disturb the silence around them.
Ahead of them the path turned into a solid stone wall and Yoru felt the same despair as everyone else. After all this walking, this tunnel led straight to a dead end and with it shattered all of this. Ears flattened, holding his lantern closer. Was this all for not?
Then there was the questions poised about blowing out the lights and Yoru nearly jumped out of his skin. "I-I'll stand a bit away with mine." He offered, moving a bit back through the tunnel to lessen the light. He was not at all comfortable giving up the lantern and it's glow. Only when Little Bird spoke again did Yoru venture close once more. He didn't get in the way but merely held a light source a little higher to try to help.

Ozzer | Guide
Ozzer closed his eyes in tiredness and disappointment, and was surprised at just how dark it became behind his lids as the lanterns were dimmed. Only when Little Bird spoke up did he open his eyes. Daigorou had already offered the idea that they might find something, but honestly the donkey had not expected to. It was just a blank wall, after all. Then again, he supposed, he should have been more open minded. He had found the artifact in a tunnel behind a disappearing wall. Such things shouldn't really surprise him anymore. At that thought he squinted at the wall, before giving it a slight, discreet touch with his teke. Solid. No disappearing wall here. He turned to join the others in examining the Outsider's finding. He expected to find just a small chip or crevice, some natural break in the rock. But as he peered around the roan's shoulder he saw that the hole was perfectly smooth. He frowned at it. It was certainly equine-made. But why... A keyhole. It was shaped like a keyhole. "A key!" he suddenly brayed. His voice echoed off the stone around them. His teke threw open the saddlebag, and pulled out the artifact. Did it seem heavier? He looked around at the others in turn. "I think it's a key," he said, this time quieter. A smile broke out on his face, but as he turned back to the keyhole he couldn't help but swallow hard. What if he was wrong? What if he was right? What would be behind the wall? A monster, trapped for centuries? More kirins? Just more dark tunnels? His blessing couldn't detect any vibrations around them that might give away the answer. "If something starts to happen, don't hesitate to run," Ozzer offered. He paused just a second longer before slowly pushing the artifact into the hole. It was a perfect fit. A small click like the one back in the library popped somewhere along the blank wall before it too began to shift. Ozzer stepped back, body tense and braced for whatever might be behind the door. But as the rock slid out of the way a recently familiar smell hit his nostrils. Books. Old books. For a second he was really worried they had traveled in one large circle back to the palace library, but as the dust settled from the door he saw this was certainly not the case. It was a library, but not one he'd ever seen. He expected no one had. While he wasn't a huge literary fanatic, he couldn't help but gape at the room that lay before them. The ceiling stretched so far above them that it was almost lost to the darkness. The room was full of stonework, and woodwork, and metalwork the likes of which he had never seen. It was all so eloquent, and soft light lanterns, all full of differently colored glow stones, were lit around the vast room. But if the structure itself was magnificent, what it held was ten times so. Ozzer had never even imagined so many books. He wouldn't doubt that this library held more books than all of Hireath combined. Scrolls, and tomes, and pamphlets, and little novels covered every shelf and surface. They were piled higher than him, and staircases spiraled around the walls to allow access to the more elevated sections. Runes, just like those on the key, were etched into much of the building itself, and written across many of the books. Many were written in the common tongue, and still more seemed to be written in other foreign alphabets. Ozzer's hoof tapped lightly onto the floor as he stepped inside. The sound was light and clear, and he looked down to realize it was made entirely of a polished gem mosaic. He breathed in softly, before turning his head slowly to the others, "Have you ever heard of such a place in all of your studies?" It was breathtaking, and Ozzer wanted to explore... but something stopped him. "There is no one else here." It came as a whisper. No other presence that he could feel. And yet... nothing was covered in dust. No lanterns were out. Though he was overcome with awe, the hair on his shoulders was beginning to stand on end. It just seemed so strange. (Post 7: 721 words)

Little Bird | Breim | Outsider
Little Bird could feel her heart beat a little faster in her chest at Ozzer's exclamation.
"A key!"
Of course! The artifact. It was a key! Ozzer had found it on some kind of pedestal because it had been important. It hadn't been a mistake or an accident. The key had been left there for a reason. It served a purpose... but what exactly did the key open?
Her eyes widened as Ozzer retrieved the artifact from the satchel on his back and inserted the key into the keyhole. It fit perfectly into the lock, but before turning the key to reveal whatever may lurk behind this stone wall, he hesitated. "If something starts to happen, don't hesitate to run." The pegasus mare glanced over at Diony, giving him a slight nod of her head.
As Ozzer turned the key with a soft click at the lock opened, Little Bird allowed her blessing to flare, creating three glowing red shields in front of them. Who knew what could be behind this wall. For all they knew, it could be some beast that someone had locked away centuries ago and they were setting it free once more.
The sight that was before her as the rock wall slide away made her shields shutter and disappear and her mouth gaped open in awe. Before them was not a monster but a library. She took a step forward, marveling at the architecture and the sheer force of the beauty that they had found. "My gods...." She muttered softly, stretching her neck to look up at the seemingly endless ceiling. "It's so beautiful." The pegasus mare ran her teke over the spines of the books on the shelf beside her. Not a fleck of dust to be seen... but if this place has been untouched in centuries, how did it look as though someone had just been there? Lanterns were still lit along the library walls, and piles of books and scrolls could be seen on some of the tables among the high shelves. It was as if a scholar would come strolling from one of the distant shelves or down one of the many spiral staircases with another book in their grasp to come help them find whatever it was they were looking for.
Shaking off the disbelief of their discovery, Little Bird turned to the rest of their group. "I'd love to look around... but do you think we should tell someone first?" Little Bird asked hesitantly. Her wings ached to carry her through the air over all of these books or to see how high the ceiling actually went, but she knew someone would want to know about this as soon as possible.
