Kalakara | Post Six
It appeared as though they were headed to the surface home free, but as it would turn out, that was most assuredly not the truth. As Kali swam along with the others, moving willingly now rather than dragging themself along as they had done only a few moments before, the pillars that held up ancient archways began to crumble, tilting and falling in zany fashion. It began with a creaking, a warning to the horses swimming that something else was amiss among the hellish confusion that had become Keiphis. Then, the stones began to tumble, falling around the horses like logged trees in an ancient stone forest. Fear sprung into the overo's mind and their eyes widened as they watched the pillar begin its descent towards earth. Cascade, how were they going to survive this nightmare, and make their way to the surface's safety? Knowing that they only had a moment to take action, the mustang forced themself to MOVE.
With a scream of fear, muffled by the waters around them, Kali cut sharply to the left, where the pillar had once stood proudly on its base. Now, it was just a hole in the ground, a safe haven for the black Overo, who narrowly avoided being crushed to death by the enormous stone column. Panting, they thrashed their shark tail, a burst of speed propelling them past where the pillar had fallen, into the open water beyond. As they scraped past the downed stone statue, they gave a silent prayer of thanks to Cascade for keeping them safe. Surely, if they were this lucky, then Owain must be all right as well, they thought. No harm would come to the child, and apparently none to his ama either.
Turning back to glance over their shoulder, the horse searched through the rubble, gazing into the mess to see if there were any horses that needed help escaping the hellish maze of horror.
Wc: 330 Ooc: agility is 100, speed is 50, so Kali escapes the pillar

Madoka | Agriculturist Madoka lunged forward, no longer caring if the others followed or not. They had their chance to move and if they hadn't already started moving now, then that would be their problem. Swiming deftly through the falling city, he kept a careful eye on the city around him. He had been in many difficult and dangerous situations before, but swimming through a crumbling city with an errupting volcano beneath the ocean? That had to take the cake. Movement just above his head made Madoka swim harder, he could hear the city groan as if it protested it's downfall but didn't look until he felt the water rush and he heard the massive boom of the column hitting the marbled tiles behind him. The water pushed him forward, but Madoka risked a look back, to see he'd barely missed being crushed by the column. Cascade seemed to be looking after him, or and this was a far more comforting thought, perhaps Mairi was making sure the Goddess didn't hurt him. But, he saw, that was not the only column to have fallen.

I l h u i c a a t l "Lulu"
§ Talori | Philosopher §
"Certain things catch your eye, but pursue those that capture the heart." ~Native American Proverb § Two columns had fallen in the midst of the chaos. Her heart thudded as she yelped, wincing as the overo dodged the pillar intent on crushing her. The philosopher was glad that the mare had snapped out of it, though she did hope the poor child would be alright. She had to get home...to her mother and brother. They just had to be okay.
The second pillar was after Madoka. He was far ahead of the pack, she didn’t blame him, but that also put him in harm's way. WHich was...sort of funny in a way, he didn’t even seem to notice he was in danger. Lucky stallion, that one...
Lulu was more intent on looking forwards than behind. She was so grateful that Cascade was helping these equines make it safe through this watery maze of death. Which was why, when the third column fell, she stood no chance to avoid it.
The sound of bubbles and a creaking crack caused Lulu to look behind her, but there was no time to dodge. With a look of horror on her face, she realized she had no choice but to be resigned to her fate, even if she tried to speed up at the last possible second. The pillar of Kiephis carved a sizable gash down the entire length of the falabella’s back as it fell, causing the hippocampus to shriek in pain as she was dragged down with it. But the scream was garbled, as bubbles and water fought for entry in her open mouth. The current tugged her earthward, leaving a bloody plume of discolored water behind. Though she fought to swim, she was completely at the mercy of Cascade.
I'm going to die! She thought, horrified.
“H-Help me!” She called out again, weaker. The hit she took was far too much for someone of her stature, and with her back bleeding as much as it was, she was completely unable to swim through the sinking tide.
§ Lulu is at the mercy of the raging waters, having failed both the Speed and Agility checks. She will need assistance!

Linnea | Harbinger (Grand cleric)
Linnea wanted to swim up. Up, up, up and away, but directions became kinda meaningless when you were fleeing from something and dodging at the same time. They had formed a group somehow, a few horses, all trying to get away from the same thing. Linnea didn’t believe in coincidence. She was happy to see that the mother had left it in the hand of the gods and followed along. She tried keeping an eye on who they had along, but couldn’t afford to look after the group much longer as she had to worry about her own well-being soon enough.
She watched in certain awe and mortification as a disk destroyed a building in its path and another one made its way towards her. She was a smart lady. She knew she wasn’t going outrun the damn thing. With years came wisdom, but those years had slowed her body down as well. She had never cared. In the new age Digend would grant her youth after all. Now however she felt dread rise up inside her. No, no, no, she wasn’t dying today. That wasn’t the plan for her. In a show of fate she closed her eyes and stopped swimming.
“Great god, spare me!” she called, hoping her god could move the disk somehow. “I trust!”

⋆ Kingston ⋆ WC: 204 - Post 6Once he started to move, his heart rose into his throat. It was hard to keep himself from complete panic and in a state of total loss. He did his best to ground himself and not run blindly off, probably causing more trouble for himself than not. He kept himself distracted by watching the others he’d been around, making sure everyone was at least following as they rose, moving about to escape the pull of the fissure.
His head snapped back when he caught the first sign of a disk moving straight towards him. The seconds of warning he had was enough just to let him rush out of the path, narrowly missing as it skidded past some of his tentacles. He held in his breath and snapped his head sideways again with another horse right near him was in the path by something similar to what he’d just dodged. Crying out for help.
Kingston took no time to take action, using his speed to push her out of the way, right before she could be hit by the disk. Unthankfully, that left him in the perfect place to get hit. His ribs made an unhealthy crack as they were struck by the disk.

Kalakara | Post Seven
As the black overo danced past the falling pillar, they felt a wave of relief run through them. Safe. They were safe from the rubble, at least for the time being. Goddess only knew what fresh hell awaited them around every corner as the group attempted to survive the twisted, toxic ruckus that had become Keiphis. Kali could feel their heart pounding in their chest as they swam, and the feeling made them want to be sick, so offputting was it.
A sudden scream caught their attention, and the black Brewer whipped around in time to see Lulu crushed beneath the pillar, almost buried by the sediment kicked up by the crashing post. Sand swirled upwards, mixing with the toxic fumes to create a haze that the brewer had to squint to see through. Just as they were about to begin swimming downward, other sounds of pain and terror took their attention. Like scythes, giant metal disks smooshed through the water, cutting a dangerous path before them. Kali winced as they heard a distinct crack from Kingston's ribs, and they hesitated, looking between him and Linnea, not sure which way to go. Unfortunately, those already hit by the disks couldn't be given much aid at the moment, so the black overo turned their attention back to Lulu. With a few short, powerful strokes of their tail, they were beside the trapped mare. Grunting, they pushed hard against the pillar, praying it would roll away under their touch.

§ Talori | Philosopher §
"Certain things catch your eye, but pursue those that capture the heart." ~Native American Proverb § Even gifted with the ability to breathe within the water, she couldn't breathe through the sand and mud kicked up from the seafloor. The weight of the pillar was crushing her lower half, and she was certain she was going to die. She could no longer see the others, and likely the sounds of the crumbling city were too loud for her voice to reach them.
Perhaps she actually deserved this. Maybe her insecurity with the Wave Mother and defiance against the sacrifices was enough of a transgression for her God to allow this to happen. Her mind went to her mother, her brother, and even her ex-lover whom she hadn’t seen in years. She wouldn’t see them again. Resigning herself to her fate, blood still twirling from her sizeable wound, she lowered her head. Between the physical and mental pain, she just wanted to sleep.
And then, it happened.
Through the murky water, she saw a familiar form cut through the muck beside her. It was none other than the mare who had been screaming for her child earlier. Golden eyes widened some as she looked up at the black overo, and she could feel tears leaking from her eyes and mixing with the already salty water around her. She was being rescued. Maybe she really would survive this. There wasn’t much Kali could do except try to push the pillar from her back, and although Ilhuicaatl appreciated everything the mare did, it did cause a lot of pain. She closed her eyes and gritted her teeth to keep from crying out again.
By some miracle, the pillar rolled from her back. She took in a deep breath, then coughed roughly. Hooves dug into the ground as she pushed herself up. She wasn’t sure if she couldn’t feel her lower half properly, or if the pain from her wound was getting to her head. Weakly, she managed to float up from the earth.
“...Thank you...I owe you my life…” Blood continued to ooze into the water in plumes from the lesion down her back. “Let’s get out of here.” A touch from a violet tentacle was offered to Kali, gently brushing against her shoulder. The going was slow, but she would have to get out of the water quickly or bleed out.

Linnea | Harbinger (Grand Cleric)
Faith was rewarded. That was what Linnea thought as she stared down the disk flying towards her one moment and then was spiraling out of the way the next. She grunted from the impact, her old bones creaking. It was painful but probably not as much as what the horse who had gotten her out of the way was feeling. She’d probably bruise. Shaking it off, making use of the adrenaline flowing through her, she picked herself up.
She tossed a quick glance at the horse who had saved her, making note of it being the king one she had tried engaging in conversation before this all happened. She swum towards him, teke grabbing hold of him and pulling. “This is going to hurt,” she warned matter of factly, “but please bite through the pain until we can take care of it.”
With that she started to drag him, ever so slowly. She thanked Cascade for the water’s support. However dangerous the water’s may have been at the moment, she couldn’t have helped anyone on land. She looked around her, seeing if anyone else could help? Though she could appreciate effort and bravery, the stallion having shown some merit, she definitly wasn’t risking her own life over dragging someone else. Digend had plans for her that she was sure off, Kingston she knew not.
It seemed everyone was buzzy dodging things for themselves though, another horse having become trapped. She watched as they were freed. “Come on,” she called over to them. “Gather your strenght. We’re getting out of here!”
To Kingston she asked: “How bad is it?”

⋆ Kingston ⋆ WC: 293 - Post 7Kingston took a few moments to come to his senses. He’d blacked out for a second, opening his eyes to find himself being pulled by Linnea away. He seemed to strike awake at that, bolting up in surprise. But he crumpled a second later, underneath the pain. His entire side completely burned in pain; everything felt terribly wrong out of place. The worst was his leg thought. The pain from it overwhelmed the rest of it.
Some blood ran from his mouth, clouding the water. He coughed a few times, his eyes going wide at the horse. He should digest the pain, answer the horse, but the clouding smoke and the falling buildings reminded him he didn’t have the liberty to be slow.
He could barely move his leg, only the top half he could barely register. Whatever was wrong with it, he didn’t have time to debate it. Tucking his leg against his body, he relied more on his water-form more than ever to swim. It hurt a lot to move, but he didn’t - couldn’t dwell on it.
His mind was cloudy, he barely registered that she had spoke to him. He coughed a bit before speaking, “I’ll live,” was all he could say. His tone was very hollow, filled with pain and hurried. ”Thank you,” he added.
The visibility only began to lessen. Panic rose with the pain, and he began to dart to the surface; his pace now hindered and slow compared to before. His already hard to find breath only got worse as he found it hard to breath through all the murk that clouded the water. He didn’t bother saying anything to those else fleeing, not daring to inhale whatever was around him, making them near blind.

Kalakara | Post Eight
As Lulu became disentangle from the pillar, Ksli felt a heavy sigh of relief expand their chest, sending a stream of bubbles into the toxified waters. They sent a silent prayer of thanks to Cascade for giving them enough strength to free the other hippocampus from the entrapment caused by the column. Their relief was momentary, as they noticed the blood rising off of Lulu's coat. They frowned, praying that the small hippocampus would survive long enough to reach the surface.
"If we both get out of here, consider us even," the overo stated, in response to the comment about saving the mare's life. "Let me help you," they added, reaching out a tendril of lime green teke to put pressure on the wound, wincing in empathy as they knew it must be painful.
"Stay with me," they commanded gently, flicking their tail as they began swimming upwards.
Suddenly, the sea around them became black with sediment, and the black mustang found themself in the midst of a coughing fit as they struggled both to see and to breathe amongst the muck. Cursing, they floundered in the water, lost for direction now that the murk had set in.

"Certain things catch your eye, but pursue those that capture the heart." ~Native American Proverb § Right after Kali had mentioned that if they survived, they would be even, Ilhuicaatl hesitated. She had gone out of her way to help the mare earlier, and now the same thing was being returned. Unable to find her voice at that moment, she managed to nod her head deeply in agreement. She did, however, grunt painfully at the pressure of the teke on her open wounds. She knew it was to help her, but it didn’t make it hurt any less.
With Kali’s help, Lulu began to swim upwards. The closer to her forebody her fin was, the stronger it flicked. But nearer to the back of her body, it barely even moved on it’s own. There was some obvious neurological damage done to her spine, or something, she thought bitterly to herself. And as she began thinking to herself, the waters darkened. The water was filled with tiny sediment, and barely any light was passing through it. She felt panic rising within her, the enclosed feeling rapidly reminding her of her time in Torrine. She shook herself, trying to think logically. Looking to the mare, she had an idea.
“Make bubbles and follow them to the surface! They will always go up!” Blowing bubbles from her nose and mouth, she realized she had somewhat been floating on her side. Righting herself up with a stronger motion from her fin, she looked to where the bubbles were headed. “Let’s go, we can do this!”

Linnea | Harbinger (Grand Cleric)
Okay, he was fine, now they just needed to go u- The water suddenly became murky, a cloud rolling in their direction. As it hit things went from murky to disorienting fast. Linnea couldn’t tell up from down. They might as well have been swimming with their eyes closed at this point. They couldn’t give up though.
Left, right, up, down. Which was which? Someone called out, but Linnea wasn’t sure who. Bubbles, make bubbles. Of course! Bubbles rose. They would unless the laws of the world were affected as well. She wouldn’t count that option out yet, but for now she’d see.
She trashed her tail wildly, as wildly as her body allowed, and stopped, eyes now truely closed and feeling intently as the bubbles rose up against her skin. Yes, that was up. Up, up, up.
Her teke reache out around her, gently giving a tug on whatever was close enough, gliding up and releasing. She felt little for speaking now with the water this dirty. Her tail beat against the water. They’d make it out of this.

Open water, open air, your first gasp of something fresh since this ordeal began. The surface is still. There are no wrathful waves and the green, sick clouds overhead are receding back towards the Wilds. If you had had doubts before, you are now sure that the storm and the fissure are the work of the gods.
"THIS IS THE PINNACLE OF TRADITION." You know her voice. Just previous you heard her condemning you, your children, your family, your city to die by letting her brother into these waters. "IT OUGHT TO BE TORN DOWN AND REMADE."She makes no effort to further explain her words. You look down below you, into what had been murky water. By divine intervention you can see to the depths of the sea with great clarity. Kiephis, the city from which Talori pulls its roots, has been split in two. Your eyes find the Temple. The fissure splits it in two perfectly. One side of the city has fallen, but the other remains. To build upon. Something supplies. The murk returns to the water, obscuring your view and shaking you back to the present. The water is still unsafe, but at least now you can swim to shore unobstructed. ___

⋆ Kingston ⋆ WC: 234 - Post 8The more he moved, the more pain simply seemed to grow; the easing pressure from the nearing surface seemed to make his body sting more. He followed bubbles, catching the tip from another horse off. He caught voices, ones he did not care to listen to, not through the pain and panic in his body, urging him back to the surface, away from the split city.
Even if he was perfectly capable under-water, he was finding it extensively hard to breath, the more he tried not to focus on it. The more they moved, him a bit slower than the others he had fleed with, the more the murk and dust started to clear. When he broke the surface, he gasped hard, treading in place, trying to catch a breath he could not. His mild panic only seemed to grow, body now stinging harshly as the adrenaline from the escape started to fade.
He dared to look back, just as the familiar voice spoke. He could only assume it was of his god; who’d chosen this path for him. His stomach felt empty, he didn’t have the mental energy to think about why. Not as he looked back, able to see the city, just for a moment, split, torn, half destroyed. The city of Cascade, torn apart, at her will itself.
Change was coming into the country, this was her way of telling them.

§ Talori | Philosopher §
"Certain things catch your eye, but pursue those that capture the heart." ~Native American Proverb § She struggled.
Bubbles floated past her face, and she followed them. But through the rush of the contained air and the vibrations generated from falling structures, there came a voice. She recognized it, but something was strange about it. It wasn’t something she could dwell on, she wasn’t out of the arms of death yet. And even as her vision blurred, and her back stung, the little mare rose. Higher and higher. Kalakara was still close by, and for that Lulu was thankful.
So...so close.
The ripples of the churning waves above gave forth light and hope. Hope she would get to land. Hope that she could get home in one piece. She risked a glance down, a bit after the voice had left them. She paused, eyes wide, heart thudding. The city lay shorn in two, the city she had never been able to experience until today. The city she would never experience in its ancient splendor ever again. And was that really Cascade? Did the God really want this? All this hard work by their ancestors ripped in two? And why leave half of it there? As a reminder?
A threat?
She didn’t want to linger anymore. Forcing her jets and her fins into overdrive despite the lack of feeling down her back, she finally came to the surface. As she broke through the waves, she took in a breath. Not that she needed it of course, but because it felt like the air up here was more real. The tears that had been leaking out into the sea instead crawled down her eyes. Bouncing in the waves, finally feeling out of immediate danger, she could really feel the pain. She needed to get home, desperately. Her mother was a cleric and could heal her, but getting home would be a problem.
Or it would have been, if not for the fact when Lulu looked to the shore, where her mother was, waiting, panic on her features. Toivo was likely home, probably asleep since the baby could sleep through just about everything. Her eyes went to Kali, a thankful expression on her small face.
“Thank you...I must go to my mother.” She took a moment to press her muzzle thankfully against the overo’s shoulder. “If Cascade wills it, we will meet again.” Without waiting for Kali to respond, Lulu swam to shore. When she changed to her land-form, it was obvious she was hurt worse than initially thought. One hind leg didn’t work, and the other just barely. But they would have to work with it and get Lulu home.

. Linnea | Harbinger (Grand cleric)
She swam as fast as she could, swam until her bones creaked and her breathing raged. And then finally they were up and above, outside the cloud and they could rest. But only for a moment as her voice rang out.
What?
Linnea's mind was racing, trying to make sense of the words. Below them the dust had suddenly settled, above them a storm receded. And there their ancient city lay in shambles, split perfectly in two.
What did it mean? Many explanations crossed her mind, heart beating wildly. She shook her head. She would ponder this later, first they'd needed to get out. Inform the rest of their herd. Whatever the case they had survived this and it had to mean something. Something no doubt grand.
Remade she had said? To build upon? She sounded different, the same but different. Things were changing. Change was Digend. Linnea couldn't help but feel excited as she made towards the shores, quietly overseeing the others making it home as well.
Change was coming. The start of something new. The beginning of the end.
