Qing || Priestess Qing hummed quietly to herself as she stepped into the unfamiliar grounds of Kaia's shrine. Though only across town, the shrine could not have been more different than her own. With all its greenery the shrine looked more like a jungle than a religious space to her. Bright flowers were blooming across the grounds and the sweet smell of flowers wafted through the spring air. It was peaceful, though not nearly as quiet as her small southern shrine. Qing tried to catch snippets of conversation as shrine-goers passed by.
"...I thought I saw a kirin today, I've been on edge since they were released..." "...my cousin actually is keeping one in his house! I've been afraid to go into his neighbourhood ever since..."
Qing winced at the mention of the kirins, and sent a quick prayer to Alya to protect her herd. Though indirectly, they were the reason that she was so far from home today. One of her most devoted regulars at the southern shrine was going to have her first child, and wanted to gift a prayer idol from each of the gods to the newborn. Fear of being attacked by one of those monsters was enough to frighten the pregnant mare inside and keep her from making the trek across town. Though Qing's stomach turned at the thought of possible attackers in the streets, she was confident in the gods' protection in her journey to bless the mare's idol.
Though she strained to catch more of the horses' conversation, they had drifted too far away for her to hear them anymore. Turning her thoughts back to the idol, she gazed out over the immaculate flower gardens of the shrine. Thinking her client would love one of the beautiful flowers, she stooped down to pick one, then hesitated. Was she even allowed to pick a flower from the shrine? She glanced around, though no one seemed to notice what she was doing. There were no signs saying she couldn't, Qing reasoned to herself. With that thought in mind, she began to wander around the flowerbeds looking for the perfect specimen to gift.
