Featuring Taend & Wintera Setting The Frozen Horn, dawn, just as spring is beginning to creep onto the land.
The mare shivered in the pre-dawn light, reaching with her teke to pull the snow leopard pelt closer about her body to trap whatever body heat she could. It was her favorite from the giant nest of furs she'd taken to using as a bed (it was near that lovely forge), and she'd basically absconded (though she knew Taend knew she'd claimed it) with the item, taking it anytime she needed to venture out into the cold. Speaking of the cold...hadn't Taend said it was supposed to be getting warmer now? Pale eyes cast about the softly shining snow (of course another light fall had dusted the nasty, muddy, slushy stuff last night) grumpily, as she adjusted the fur covering her scales once more. At least the snow did make the scene prettier... Gaze rose, accompanied by a wistful, happy sigh at the sight of the sun just beginning to peek over the horizon, beginning to gild the hints of farmland and forest in the distance just below where Skeldr Town sprawled at the base of the mountain with the same name. Wintera may not enjoy the cold, but she absolutely loved this view and could be found almost every clear morning sitting out and freezing just to glimpse the colors as they painted across the sky. Behind the closed door just to her side, the forge was burning away slowly, ready to begin its days work. Wintera had sifted the ashes, arranged the charcoal, coke, and wood properly, and gotten the fire started, all as she'd watched and badgered Taend into showering her how to properly do it. Then she'd started slowly taking over the morning lighting duties, nudging her giant companion off into the kitchen so she could play with the fire in peace before washing up to be presentable for the day once more. She wouldn't say Taend was exactly /happy/ about the usurpation of his precious forge, but she knew it made his mornings easier if he could just focus on one task, which was getting the kitchens together and a quick breakfast for them ready before his help arrived (if it was that day). But it was with a little smile of peaceful happiness and a sense that she was actually being helpful and being of value to someone that the dainty kirin focused on the sunrise before her, snuggled into a pelt that smelled of smoke and oak, with a hint of stallion. Taend huffed as he moved about the kitchen, today the staff would take care of most anything. He was supposed to be focusing on his forge work for the day, though that didn't stop him from worrying about his precious kitchen. He valued the place almost as much as he did his forge.
Speaking of forges- a certain snow dusted mare had taken to sleeping in it. If only for the heat. He had passed out the first time he had seen her curled up in his kiln, but now it was just another fact of life. When he wanted to work he had to kick her out, putting up with the quiet and pitiful moans that arose from the tired kirin. Taend would never admit it, but he found those sleep-glazed eyes and that soft smile adorable. Which is partly why he taught her how to start the forge, so Wintera could start it up and use it whenever she was cold... also because she hounded him time and time again.
Though since she could work on starting up the forge, he could focus on prepping the kitchen and making breakfast. Said breakfast consisted of a simple oat meal and goat's milk, though he had found some how managed to procure fresh berries and honey, also some tea. Taend hummed and gathered up the platters onto a tray, glancing up and nodding as the Daisy -the head cook- filed in. He backed out of the kitchen door and walked across the floor and to the the hallway leading to the forge.
Taend pushed the door open and sighed as the heat greeted him. Scanning the room, he soon found the tell-tale lump with antlers under a pile of furs. Rolling his eyes, Taned put the tray down and walked over to the lump. He pushed his muzzle against the mare's side gently, uttering a quiet "Good morning" As he did so. He stepped back as the mare perked up. He smiled gently and brought a cup of tea forward with his mixed teke, "Here, got some tea for you. I also have some oatmeal with honey and berries."

It was a little jump that greeted the stallion's touch, the mare lost in her thoughts and warmth. Pale eyes flickered open and focused on the mismatched orbs of her companion. "Good morning!" Wintera replied, tone cheerful if a little sleepy. She was definitely one of those early morning people once she had started to wake up, as opposed to a night owl, the poor mare always beginning to nod off as soon as the sun started to slip below the horizon for the night.
"Oh, thank you!" Teke touched the cup lightly, turning it a swirling mix of three colors, ears swiveling forward excitedly. "Did you say berries? By the Fire Father, you really can do some things right!" the mare teased as she shuffled over to make room for her companion. Then again...as she eyed the pile furs and then the frame of the merchant, there really wasn't enough room without them being fairly squished together.
Stomach rumbled anyway, nostrils flaring in appreciation at the scents of breakfast. She really was hungry, starting the forge was actually work, though the warmth more than made up for it, she'd say.
"Let's step outside and watch the sun rise while we eat!" Wintera offered, unconsciously making it more of a demand as she picked up a few furs and tossed them over her back, all the while carefully balancing her precious tea, a smile on lips as she headed for the door.

Taend smiled at the mare's cheerful greeting. Handing off the tea to her and stepping back as she rose. He barked out at her teasing, "Yes I can do some things right, but it's nothing compared to your illustriousness, Oh, mighty kirin who can't even make a soup." With a chuckle he picked up the tray and began to move along his excitable companion.
Taend laughed as he watched the mare walk towards the door. She seemed to be swallowed by the pelts. He stepped in front of Wintera, stopping her. "Fine but I'm not going to have you track my pelts through the mud. Hold still for a second." Leaning down, he went about and fixed the pelts, making sure each one was off the ground. As he stood up, he found his muzzle eerily close to Wintera's. Looking down, Taend saw that a lock of hair had covered one of her amethyst eyes.
Before he could really think, Taend brought his teke up and brushed the lock away gently... He then snapped back to reality. Eyes widening, he dropped his hold and turned away, his face blushing fiercely.
Wanting to escape the sudden heat, Taend opened the door and stepped out. "-Well let's get out there so we don't miss the sunrise!" He then threw open the door and not so discreetly stepped out into the cool morning air.

"Why do I need to know how to make soup anyway? That's what I've got your for," the kirin teased right back, grinning. However, the expression faltered a little just a few seconds later at the stallion's next words, blocked by his large physical presence as he stepped in front of her. She glanced up at him quizzically, a frown creeping to turn down lips at the feeling that she was being chastised. Of course, what he said made sense. And it wasn't like she wanted the pelts she slept in to be full of mud later either. So she held still as he shifted and maneuvered the pelts about, getting them to whatever level of satisfaction he needed.
He'd just finished patting a brown pelt along her shoulder into place, her head turned to see what he was doing. But when she looked forward again, she suddenly found herself nearly nose to nose with the larger common horse, and her breath caught in reaction to the sudden proximity. She blinked several times, brain oddly silent, as she felt the touch of his teke shifting a strand of hair away from her face.
Again she was left blinking, as he jerked away and shoved the door open, quickly stepping through into the cold air. With a shake both mental and physical, Wintera moved after her companion, eyeing him oddly for a moment, before her usual attitude reasserted itself to cover the awkward moment of before. "Well luckily for you, it looks like we didn't miss it because someone thought he had to keep fuddy-duddying with the pelts!" the kirin announced, grin returning as she closed the door and then turned toward base of the mountain, pale teke curled about her cup of tea, though her image of poise was abruptly ruined by her stomach growling.

Taend breathed a sigh of relief as he escaped into the cool morning air. The blush still rooted on his muzzle, he shook his head to bring his thoughts back into order, She doesn't like you like.... that. Get over your self Taend. With a great sigh, Taend turned his head and watched as Wintera gleefully trotted out the door. He smiled and chuckled at the mare's statement, already feeling the awkwardness from before melt away. Soon, he settled next the mare, being mindful of the food in his grasp. As they watched for the sunrise he tried in vain to ignore the morning light glinting off the mare's scale's and hair. It was honestly one of his most favorite things about her. Her scales would burst into a tapestry of blues and her hair would be woven with platinum and silver. He had to stop himself from staring at her more than once. It was embarrassing, and he couldn't find it in himself to care. Soon, the sun peaked over the horizon, it's rays brilliantly casting its light over the frosted ground. Taend had to stop and stare, some days he forgot just how beautiful his home actually was. Soon enough, he closed his eyes and just basked in the sunlight, a small smile upon his lips.

It truly was a spectacular sight to behold.
More than once the kirin sighed happily, even while happily and quickly ingesting the wonderful breakfast her companion had prepared for them. It was a perfect combination, and she had to admit that the company she currently had made it even better. A sunrise viewing without Taend felt...empty somehow. Lonely. Which was rather silly, since he was just a common horse who had taken her in...
Pale purple gaze slide to the side occasionally, casting peeks at the large horse beside her. Once in a while she actually caught him looking her way, and eyes darted forward, a touch of heat gracing her cheeks though she knew it wouldn't be visible. She was being silly, she knew. Still, this was...nice. The view, the company, the food, the...feelings and emotions she currently had. She was enjoying them.
It wasn't until the sun had fully cleared the horizon that antlered heard turned so she could fully look at the blacksmith sitting beside her. "You know, you look like a giant cat right now. I thought that was my job," Wintera remarked, a sparkle in her eyes and a teasing smile on lips.

The moment his eyes slipped closed, Taend had tuned out the rest of the world. So he didn't notice the way Wintera glanced at him or how a blush had rooted on her cheeks. No, he didn't notice anything. All he focused on was the sun's light bathing his cheeks and the warmth that settled in his stomach after a good meal. As the sun rose he had nursed his tea and nibbled at his oatmeal. Despite his large size, (and the stigmas that came with it) Taend didn't gorge on food to often. He mostly just ate light breakfast and a hearty dinner, snacking through out the day to stave off his hunger. His eating schedule had been worse before Daisy came into his life and smacked him upside with the importance of a good meal and a decent sleep schedule. So, his horrible eating and working habits had died quickly after that. Though this morning, he was glad he hadn't slept the night before, because he wouldn't have been able to greet his favorite kirin with a meal. He was still a bit disgruntled at the fact she still slept in the forge, even though she had a room with a perfectly good hearth. (At this point he was thinking of just moving her into his bedroom, it was right above the forge after all) He was snapped out of his stupor as Wintera's voice. He opened his eyes and sent a lazy grin her way. "Well, this cat is enjoying the morning before the bustle of life forces him to actually deal with people." He made an exaggerated disgusted face during his people comment and laughed slightly at the thought. Soon enough, he heard the tell tale sign of Tony entering the building and sighed. Taend stood up and stretched his limbs, savoring the pops of nigh used joints. He yawned and picked up the tray, "Well, I guess now is as good a time as any to get our day started." He waltzed to the door and held it open, smirking slightly, "My Lady."

Lips curved further into a smile that bordered on a grin as she eyed the large stallion beside her, listening to his words.
"Oh really, so what does that make me if I'm not 'people'? I'm going to assume it's a compliment of some sort, since you chose to be out here with me," Wintera replied, tilting her head slightly, before looking back toward the sunrise. She didn't want to get up just yet though. She knew it was almost time, but being there just felt so...nice.
She was warm, happy, content...peaceful. With a small sigh she shifted, leaning against the warm bulk of the blacksmith and tavern owner beside her. A smile lingered on lips as the pelts shifted slightly, revealing glittering scales in the early morning light.
Ears flickered as Wintera heard her companion sigh, and knew that the time had really come to rise and get about their duties for the day. The mare stifled her own exhalation of discontent. She swayed away from the pleasing body heat of the common horse, a light blush touching cheeks as she realized how much she actually missed the contact as soon as it was over. That was...odd.
Mind shied away from the thoughts, ears flickering at the sounds of joints popping coming from Taend, and she laughed quietly. "I suppose if we must, old man," the kirin mare remarked as she rose and stretched herself, much more lithely and smoothly, only a few pops sounding from her own limbs.
She swept through the door, trying to be careful of the furs, before depositing them on their rightful pile for later use, giving herself a little shake and checking a nearby bit of glass to make sue her hair wasn't a terrible mess.
"Taend, how's my hair look? It isn't mess up in the back, is it? I can't see from this glass," Wintera worried, pale eyes looking back at her friend over her shoulder. WC/328 | Post 5
