Cleone A lie can travel halfway around the world It was meant to be a short trip. That’s what the captain had said, anyways, when the ship had come to stop at the Isles of the Dead. They’d run out of supplies, not including what was needed to be traded with the mainland and therefore left untouched by the crew and traders that had boarded the ship, and had needed to make a risky move of gathering enough from the islands before completing the rest of the journey. They’d only stay a few hours, he’d said.
Cleone sighed, their gaze flicking up to the sky as they walked along the wooden docks. The sun had already moved itself from morning to nearly late noon. No longer could the trader pace inside their room in the ship, going over logs and their lists, before finally getting off the ship. How long would it be before someone came running to find their lost, fellow Seroran? An ear flicked in thought before the foreigner to the island brought her attention back to the scene before them: organized chaos.
There were many ships in the port, many more horses running to and from those mentioned ships or otherwise moving about in the market and along the docks. Some looked so normal, Cleone could swear they were on the mainland, and then there were others. Equines seasoned by the sea and the untamed land, barring scars or even missing entire limbs that made Cleo taking in a shaky breath before averting their golden eyes to not seem rude.
She was in a completely different land than the welcoming sands she was accustomed to. They had no idea where to go, zero clue what was keeping the captain and some others of the crew so long. Their coat itched uncomfortably, though still Cleone took a step forward to lose themselves in the crowd with a tug at their lightweight cloak that kept the sun off their coat’s darker complexion. Their hood was left down, letting them take in everything around them freely without having to peer around cloth. No jewels adorned them, of course, with her bridle and anklets safely back in her room. To roam around pirates with such prized possessions? That was a fool asking to get robbed. All Cleone wanted was to stretch their legs and poke their nose around, her natural curiosity rising as well as worry that they pushed down in favor of the former.
Why not explore?

Trade was becoming harder by each passing day. Or well, not harder, but there was definitely something more intense about it. The knowing looks and glances passing around, whenever he reached Valore or bigger ports in Onea weren’t hard to notice. Being a talorian trader, who in their mind was against them, didn’t help his business. He could feel how his trades were less successful and orders weren’t plenty anymore. They forgot that the Rogue Alliance wasn’t the mainland. They had no alliance to anyone yet, so they should be free to trade until something began. Until the war broke out and the ships turned into battleships. Nothing had happened yet though, so Sunil just felt frustrated by the lack of income he gradually started noticing. The Setting Sun had just returned from a trip to Valore, Onea and back again. They’d felt the glances that passed, the uncertainty in the air. It was clear that the Rogue Alliance were still unaffiliated though. They still dared go to these places and trade with them, so why the anxiety?
Sunil got up from his bed, deep in thought, and passed the doors to the front room of his cabin. The map, set in place by a variety of knives, shards and smaller treasures, showed their trade routes and notes for each. Books spread across the table, some open and some closed. The cabin was somewhat of a mess lately, but he knew where everything was and that was the most important thing. He gave it a quick glance before walking out on the ship, seeing the crew putting the last things in place before they left for the Isles. They had done a good job, as usual, and Sunil gave the harbour master a quick nod before he left the ship as well.
As he looked around the docks, he noticed a seroran ship much like the one he had raided on the bottom of the sea. There was a certain style to them - they looked open and free, as if it could soar the skies instead of sailing through the waves of the sea. He admired the work, as he continued further into the “city”. He wore his hair loose, since the wind wasn’t there to get it in his face. Adorned with one of his many crowns, he looked around to see if anyone was worth interacting with. A dark hippocampus caught his eye. They looked lost, yet intrigued by the crowded marketplace. They didn’t seem to be of the Isles and probably wasn’t talorian either. Maybe seroran? From the ship he had noticed earlier? He walked up the them and stood beside them.
“It’s a bit of a mess, isn’t it? I find it quite comfortable though, makes you feel like you have something to do - there’s always something new to see” He commented, looking out at the marketplace with it’s stands offering everything from familiars and alcohol to fabrics and notebooks. He glanced at the hippocampus, looking for their reaction to his approach.

Cleone A lie can travel halfway around the world Perhaps, instead, they should have gone for a swim. Lost in a school of fish, what difference was it surrounded by so many various equines that pushed and shoved as the tide did with its own more gentle pull? Nose wrinkling as much as it physically could, the trader was beginning to second guess their decision to leave the safety of the ship for favor of exploring. Unless they could get out of the crowd, what was there to see? The flanks and legs of other horses? Sometimes, she wished she was taller, she sighed at the thought.
It was afterwards that movement caught their eye to their side. Someone had come up beside them, startling them enough that the Seroran took a step to the side and flicked their ears back in uncertainty as they gazed at the hippocampus beside them who commented so casually. Was he talked to them? A quick glance around, no one else paying any mind to the pale and decorated equine beside her, confirmed they were. A bit of a mess? “You could say that,” Cleo agreed warily, not yet relaxing beside the companion that had chosen to join them. Why had they decided to speak with her? Was there anything to gain? She had no valuables on her, she could explain. It might send them on their way, though as a trader and therefore part of a business, they had to be smarter about the way they spoke to others. Why scare off a potential buyer even if they could be a pirate?
“Is there? Always something new to see? It seems so chaotic here,” they continued, ending their remark with a small uneasy laugh as they shifted on their hooves. It seemed to bold to ask for any sort of tour, betting the man beside her had better things to do than entertain a young adult new to the island. Still… there did not appear anything too threatening about them. Maybe they were as bored as she had been stuck on the ship, looking for some entertainment. Decisions were tossed and turned in her head as she regarded them from the corner of an eye, otherwise following their earlier gaze to the market stands.
“Is there only crowd and stands here?” A naive question, purposely asked to poke and test what their reason for coming up to her was. She looked expectantly at them for an answer, though was polite enough to not demand any sort of immediate response as their head tipped to the side as if to convey the curiosity that did bubble up inside. They wanted to see more, but was this pirate willing to show them or would they get bored and part way?

Of course Sunil couldn't help but snicker at the smaller horse beside him, as they took a step to the side when he appeared. He took a moment to take in the sights of the Isle again, the bustling crowds roaming around. Port Lorin was truly a wonderful place - but it definitely wasn't for everyone. The older equine looked down at the newcomer again, smiling a bit. "One day you'll learn to see the beauty in the chaos, I can promise you that" Laughing at the remark - and her question, he nodded at the different stalls. "You'll rarely see the same thing twice here. But the stalls aren't everything of course." He took a step forward, raising his head up high as if to take in the sight and smell of the Isle. "I don't think it's possible to get tired of this place, if I need to be honest."
Lifting his hoof off of the ground, he looked back at her. "I could give you a tour, if you'd like? Can't promise all of it is likeable, but there should be something of interest" He sent her a grin at the last sentence. He didn't expect her to like the brothels, excotic dancers and alcohol - but you never knew, perhaps she was more than she looked like. There were so many stories and places to see on the Isles. The giant skeleton on the Isle of Bones for one. Did she know what a Scagrywr was? Had she seen the Isle of Blood, experienced the magnificent work of the brewers there? Just thinking of everything made his head spin - he hadn't spent a full day just taking in the Isle in a while - and to be fair, he kinda looked forward to it. Perhaps he could make her visit again - traders from other herds brought fresh goods and was always welcome.
