Soriano | War Forged Merchant
Soriano looked up to the blue sky. He remembered why he didn’t enjoy the trip to Sedo. It was always way too hot. He missed the chill of Kaia’s mountains and Alya’s wind. He shook out his mane, getting a grip on why he always came to Sedo first. First off, to get the hottest visit over and done with, and they had a variety of herbs and plants that would last through his travels over the rest of the summer.
He shifted his pack a little bit as he walked, a shimmer of water catching his orange eyes. soriano sighed and relief. The river always seemed to put life back into his limbs. The liver chestnut stallion took his bag off and plodded into the river, thankful for Cascade’s mercy on the unforgiving landscape. He wondered how anyone would chose to live here, but a lot of other equines would ask the same thing of him. Living in Onea provided it’s own challenges, but with Kaia and Alya’s protection, it was a wonderful place to live.
Soriano looked around, trying to see if he was close to where anyone was. He squinted his eyes, thinking he could see another figure in the distance. He sighed and took a drink from the river, he put his pack back onto his back and plodded along the river back to the other figure. “Hello?” He called out, not wanting to startle the other, or scaring off anything unwanted before he could get to them.

Antonio had just finished up a depressing day of farming. The drought had killed off the last of his plants, and he was forced to face the truth. He was without food, and he could no longer provide for himself. Leading his familiar fennec fox, Terra, down to the banks of the Niurros River, he had to make a decision. Abandon his farm and go searching for a place to feed himself, essentially becoming a wanderer, or stay and starve.
His hooves sank into the mud that was along the banks of the river. The river had receded in the drought, which was also concerning. He half slid - half walked to the water's edge and dropped his head. He treasured the cool water and started to drink his fill. His thoughts turned back to his choice, but before he could really go into deep thought, a voice pulled his attention.
"Hello?"
A stallion's voice, unfamiliar and not far off. His head jolted up, and Terra growled in the direction of the voice. Her growl was less then threatening and she was far too small to scare off another horse, but Toni bumped her with his muzzle anyway, hushing her. His green eyes flickered in the direction of the voice, and his tail swished in anticipation. He finally called back, his voice cutting through silence.
"Yes? Hello?"

Soriano | War Forged Merchant
Soriano’s ears perked as the younger stallion’s voice cut through the silence. Then went right back to their normal spot against his head as he got close to the young stallion. “Yes, hello. I’m Soriano,” he said, looking to the fox with Antonio. Soriano’s eyes drifted to river. “I could not help but notice that the river seems to be a little low. Do you have any idea as to why?” He asked, looking back to Antonio.
He looked back up to the sky, again wishing to be closer to it in Kaia’s mountains. “I’m Soriano, a merchant from Skeldr.” He gave the stallion in front of him a little half smile. “I was hoping that I would be able to find some herbs for teas in Sedo, but I’m starting to doubt that a little bit, with the river this low.” He looked to the fennec fox. “And who might that be?” Soriano asked, gesturing to Terra. “Quite the cutie,” he said, his same half smile crossing his face.
A stiff breeze blew over Soriano’s coat, making him shiver for no reason. He shook his head a little bit, trying to adjust to the warmer climate of the southern herds. “I’ll never get used to this warmth,” he muttered to himself as he checked his pack again.

"Antonio." The bay chimera said, dipping his head in greeting, and offering a tired but friendly smile. Toni followed the older stallion's eyes to the water. "We have had a severe drought this summer. The river has dried and most, if not all, crops have died." Tossing his head, He dropped his head for another drink, listening to Soriano talk. He perked up, hearing of the stallions strange background. "It's not often we have visitors. You're right, it's unlikely, but the river is your best bet. You might have better luck down river.."
Toni chuckled as he commented on his familiar. "Her name's Terra, found her during my Ceremony of the Rising Wind. Watch out, she can be feisty and possessive." As if in response, Terra head-butted his leg. He glanced down at her and nudged her gently. When he looked up, he was surprised to see the stallion shiver. It confused him, but then again, most outsiders did. Besides, he couldn't judge the stallion. He came from Onea, which he could only assume was much different.
"What's it like in Skeldr? I've never left Sedo, lived on this section of the river my whole life.." He said softly, his green eyes sparkling with interest. He really hoped the stallion might tell him of the world beyond, as it was likely he'd never have a chance to explore the world.

Soriano | War Forged Merchant
Soriano listened as Antonio spoke, happy to have meet a friendly horse. He had had some close encounters a few times in past years, especially in the Aodh area. Soriano mused over Antoni’s question about Skeldr. “Well, it’s a lot colder than here, that’s for sure,” he said, flicking his ear. “The air is light, while it’s pretty heavy down here. Alya blesses our passages on some parts of the mountain, as you could fall off with a decent gust of wind.” Soriano stopped and thought for a little longer. His orange eyes drifting back up to the sky.
“There are plenty of predators, most of which you see as familiars. It’s interesting, so it’s a little funny. Some have a snow leopard as a familiar when they killed their parents so many years ago,” he shrugged a little bit as he stopped speaking. He looked down the river, past Antonio and Terra. “Would you mind escorting me? I’ve had a few too many run-ins with slave traders, and they have taste for picking up horses of War Forged.”
Soriano looked to Antonio. “I understand if you would rather stay here, but it would be quite nice to have some company for some of the way. Haven’t really had that since coming from Onea.”

Antonio's eyes sparkled with a child-like awe as he listened to the stallion's words. Some of it seemed very strange. Heavy air? It was all intriguing and different, and allowed Toni's imagination to run wild. He had to mentally remind himself to focus a few times.
"I'd love to! I don't blame you for being wary of them, I've heard some stories.. I just finished up in the fields and planned on taking a walk anyways. What exactly are you looking for? I know quite a few of the herbs that grow around here." The bay stallion grinned and walked off, motioning for Soriano to follow.
"It must be lonely traveling all that way by yourself. How long are you planning to stay in Sedo and where will you go next?" The questions seemed to flow from Toni's mouth. The outside world fascinated him, and he figured that it might be beneficial to learn everything he could from Soriano. After all, he must've seen a lot on his travels. Perhaps he had been to the other herds as well?

Soriano | War Forged Merchant
“Most of the stories are quite true,” Soriano said, looking to the stallion. “Though, their merchant district is quite beautiful and pretty much always active.” The stallion began walking just after Toni motioned for him to follow. “I’m looking for herbs that would be good for making teas with. I know a shop keeper back home, he owns a coffee shop and he loves it when I bring new herbs around for his shop.”
“It gets lonely sometimes, but I’m currently saving up to help with training to be able to own a familiar,” Soriano said with a small shrug. Sori thought about what Toni had asked him. “I’ll probably be here for a few days, then I need to start my journey to Aquroe,. I need to get there by about mid summer so I can make it to Valore by early fall, which will give me enough time to get back to Onea before the first snowfall.”
Soriano let his eyes wander as they walked along the river. He looked back to Antoino. “I don’t mean to be nosy, but how old are you, Toni? I recently turned 27, so I’m just curious.” He looked back to the river, unsure if the chimera stallion was going to answer his question, he was also prepared to answer any more that the stallion had to throw at him.

"A coffee shop, huh?" Toni hadn't had coffee in quite some time. He believed the last time he tried it, he was fairly young. He remembered it tasting fairly bitter and being hot. Hot drinks weren't exactly useful in a desert unless you were sick, so the thought of a shop keeper serving such beverages was another foreign concept. Tea, however, was not. While Toni didn't drink it often, he was somewhat familiar with the herbs used for drinks. "There's an extremely small waterfall up here, no more than a five foot drop. I think that would be a good place to look for herbs of that kind."
"A familiar? What kind of familiar do you want?" He asked, glancing at his own little 'bundle of joy'. "I know it's a long journey, but I can't help but be a bit jealous of you. To see so many beautiful cities and meet so many people... it sounds wonderful, and terrifying, all at the same time."
"No, no it's a fine question. I'm 25." Toni said simply. Soriano acted like he was much older than 27, but then again, traveling must make one mature quickly. "What age did you start traveling around? Also, you mentioned you're a merchant, what do you sell besides herbs and the like?"
As the two walked, the sound of water moving faster started becoming louder. As Toni had said, there was a small waterfall. Surrounding the waterfall were some various herbs, and although they didn't look as healthy as they should, they were doing better than some other plants in the area. "Here we are! I know the plants don't look to good, but the summer has been rough on them so far." Toni said softly, and he looked as though he might cry from the thought of them withering.

Soriano | War Forged Merchant
”Sounds like a perfect spot to find some herbs,” Soriano said, a small smile on his face as he thought about what Marco would think with the stock of herbs. Though Sori had been to the coffee shop many times, he usually ended up getting the same tea, or ones very similar to it.
Soriano thought about what kind of familiar he would want. ”I’m not exactly sure, but something that would be able to travel with me all the time, and be able to handle the cold of the mountains come winter. I have thought about saving to get a Pygmy Griffin, but I’m not very sure about it.” He listened as Toni spoke about his thoughts of traveling around, then his next question.
”I think I started traveling when I was around 16, so I’ve been doing it for a while. At first it was just within Skeldr, then I started making trips to Breim. I probably started traveling across Hireath when I was 23 or 24.” He said after thinking of how long he had been traveling to the different herds and towns.
”I sell nearly everything and anything. If someone wants to make a trade and I know I can profit from it, I generally take it, so I can get some pretty crazy stuff from town to town. I’m pretty sure I’ve sold a couple of plants that weren’t meant for medicine,” Soriano said with a small shrug.

Nosing some of the plants, Toni listened to the stallion talk. He certainly had an interesting life, and it made him feel like he should be doing more. Then again, he had never been farther than 10 miles away from his home in any direction, except for the 15 mile trip north to Osulas. The thought of leaving sent a small tremor of fear to the pit of his stomach. He didn't think he could ever leave the Niurros River. It was far too important, and the world was so vast, he would probably end up getting lost. Still his heart yearned for something more exciting.
"A pygmy griffin? I've heard of those, but not too many own them around here. It might be too hot for them, I don't know. They certainly sound interesting." His next answer rocked Toni's previous thoughts. '16? That's crazy!' He shot the stallion a shocked look, unable to fathom roaming and and dealing with others at such a young age. "You must've been brave to start out that young." He said softly, adding a smile for good measure. "Well, I'd give you something, but I don't have much to begin with." he chuckled half-heartedly. "I'll help you search for your plants though, what do you need?"

Soriano | War Forged Merchant
Soriano listened as Toni responded once more to what he had said. ”From what I know of them, they come in varying sizes and able to handle different kinds of weather,” he said, not even knowing that he knew so much about the little beasts.
Soriano chuckled a little bit at being brave to travel around. He nosed in the plants a little, searching for the right scents of the plants. “No, I’m not brave. I kind of started traveling as a way to get away from my family. But at the same time to see the world,” he smiled at Toni before carefully picking some the herbs and stringing them together to hang upon his bag.
“I just need enough of these in order to make some profit and still have some left over for my friend,” he answered Toni, happy to have some company while he was picking the precious herbs. He smiled his half smile as Toni spoke. “Just you’re help and company is more than I could ever ask for of another.” He looked back to the little fox by Toni, his half smile still upon his face. He hoped he would be able to get himself some kind of companion soon, traveling got lonely when no caravans were to leave when he was.

"Huh, they seem interesting. If you ever get one, or any other kind of familiar, I'd like to see it. I love seeing them all, and I think they're kind of a reflection of their owners, in a way." Antonio said softly, searching for some herbs that might be good for teas and coffee. Anything that smelled good, he would check closely and try to remember if they were edible. He was pleased that the stallion still wanted him around, he had been a tad worried that Soriano might push him away after being led to the water fall. It had been awhile since he had met someone new and exciting that had been willing to share their adventures so freely.
"Get away from your family?" That was something he'd never really heard of. Being brought up in such a large family, he had never thought he could get away from them. And why would he want to? He always had someone to play with, confide in, and be around. If one of his older siblings kicked him away, he'd just go find another one to play with. He loved them and he would go visit them daily, whether they liked it or not. "Why would you ever want to do that? I don't mean to prod, but it just seems so.. different."

“I’ll be sure to come by when I do get one then,” Soriano said, offering the younger stallion a half smile. He picked and strung another strand to be hung upon his bag. He chuckled softly as Toni mentioned how they come to reflect their owners. “I believe that is the case as well. Since most pick a familiar that takes after them, or works best with their personality.”
When Toni asked Soriano why he wanted to get away from his family, the chocolate coated stallion had to stop and think. “Well, I’m the oldest of three, and I have an amazing mother and father. I just wanted to see the world. I’ve been like that ever since I was little, along with always crafting things and picking up scraps left behind by others. My parents understood that I was a restless spirit and helped me start my career.”
