Cleone You dive into the water, but can't see how deep it is “C’mon, Taye, the water’s not going to bite you,” sighed the trader, standing there at the edge of the water. They had only managed to get far enough away from the port, their hometown, before the other girl had stopped on the beach upon probable realization of where her best friend had been leading her to. Didn’t they both deserve a nice, relaxing swim after all the chaos their herd had been subjected to?
Cleone rolled their eyes, giving their feathered friend an exasperated looking before skipping from the ocean that had rushed at their feet only to pull back away before touching or washing over them. “I thought we could go for a swim - it’s nice to,” they interrupted themselves, trying for a convincing smile as they bumped Taye’s hip with their own when they came to stand beside her. “Please?” they begged, batting her eyelashes, “it’ll be fun! I promise. I won’t even leave you this time if we see something shiny unless you really want to check it out. I’ll even help you swim if you really need to.” Though Alya’s children were perfectly capable of diving. They did have those that gathered underwater, however, their feathers were usually a little more… water resistant.
She ‘hm’ed thoughtfully under her breath, playfully poking at one of Taye’s feathers as if inspecting it, before grinning innocently and nudging her again. “You can’t say no to me,” she tried instead, tilting her head. “Let’s just relax and have a good time, okay? We need a break.” After returning home, the drought, threats of war with Aodh and aligning themselves with the Talori. Before they went back to their trading jobs, all Cleo wanted to do was have a day in the surf and sun with their best friend.
She wouldn’t, of course, drag Taye if she truly didn’t want to swim. Cleone was known to beg from her, though no one else saw the side from her. They hated to request things, bothering others, but wasn’t that what best friends were for? Taye was practically her sister, there after so many years of being pestered, she probably didn’t mind at all when Cleone suggested something as silly as going for a swim.

[ Taye ]
Feathers of brown and blue twitched in discomfort and disgust upon the girl’s back, golden eyes assessing the gentle waves and ripples of the water inching nearer to them before falling back to the sand and disappearing. Sure, she stood a safe distance from the sea but that didn’t make her like it anymore than a day where she would be closer to it, or on a ship or boat. Thinking of all the splashing over the hull and onto the deck made her shudder and she gave her friend a doubtful look.
“Don’t lie, Cleo. You know lying isn’t good,” she scolded her friend, even giving a laugh at their suggestion to have ‘thought they could go for a swim’. Her hip was bumped and the larger girl stepped to the side as if moved from her position with her friend’s force, yet Cleo was much too small to really get her to move anywhere. It put a smug smile on Taye’s face, but it was one that didn’t last long when she remembered her current situation. She grunted softly in thought, shifting from one leg to the other before keeping one partially bent and putting more weight on the other.
“You’ve left me multiple times though,” she accused, swinging her head in her direction to stare at her and lift a brow. Could they really look her in the eye and tell her they would ignore something that caught their eye because their friend, who despised water, wouldn’t go with them after it? Her nostrils flared with a snort and she shook her head a couple times. “Cleo, dear. I’m not made for the water— or the desert, at that. By the gods, I do not know which I hate more. Sand clings to me and is a pain to get off, meanwhile water helps to rid of it but once you get out, the sand clings to you more. There’s no winning.” It was unclear if the winged woman had a secret fear of the water and she used her disgust to cover it up, but who would go swimming at all if they feared it so greatly?
She ‘hm’ed in thought, amusement on her face with her friend’s claim. Did she really think that was true. Taye stretched out one wing behind Cleone’s back, using it to pull them closer to her. “I could say no to you easily. Don’t be so full of yourself. I love you, but that doesn’t mean I’ll give into you,” she teased them, leaning closer to bump shoulder against their own. What did it take the last few times for them to actually get her into the water? She pressed her lips into a thin line, glancing back towards the water. “You do know there are plenty of other things to do that are fun and relaxing, right? But… you will owe me after this. Bare that in mind, alright?”
There was no way Taye would get into the water without compensation. If she could put up with Cleo’s love for water and need for swimming as well as their need for her to swim with them, she thought there was no problem if they would do something for her later. Nothing big, just stupid or silly like the idea of swimming had been.
