= Luna = 1 | 449The celebrations were just beginning to die down after a long month of praise and glory to the new Empress. It was a facade at most, a mask most horses wore to hide the grief they sowed for the past six months. Luna felt it too, deep in her breast. The loss of Hawkeye and most horses she’d known in the palace hit a sore nerve. It took her whole being not to publicly mourn and release the flow of emotions she kept tight in her chest. Cassandra’s strength was incredible as well- Luna noticed that the fully grown mare had adjusted well to her new position and admired her for being so poised after her father’s death.
With the sorrow still lingering, Luna took after the former princess in hopes of moving forward with her life. In order to heal, one must let in light.
The sun high in the sky was a perfect example. Winter was soon to clear out and spring would blossom forth. A pleased sigh escaped the mare’s lips at the thought of the new harvest season with all the delectable fruits and treats. The simple thought pulled the image of a bright chestnut boy she’d known once, long ago. Lucifer… A frown settled on her face for just a moment as she wondered where he’d gone. Just another royal lost to the sea, she assumed with a twinge of regret. Wherever he was, she hoped that Cascade was watching over him.
Her lingering on the past would have gone on much longer had she not noticed a new shop on the street. Curious eyes roamed over the sign of the building, a small hum of interest buzzing her lips.
“The Windy Bay. What do you think William?” The small inquiry was met by an agreeing chirp as the cocktiel answered earnestly. She giggled, pushing the door open gently with her teke and hearing the ring of a bell.
The first thing she noticed was the abundance of plants crowding the front of the shop. It was an overwhelming amount of green really. The sweet aroma of flowers wafted through the air, the lighter scent accompanied by a warm incense that settled heavy on her senses. It was beautiful. For a moment… it reminded her of home.
Luna stepped further into the shop, letting the door close quietly behind her. She didn’t want to disturb the peace in here.
“Hello?” The gentle call almost echoed through the store as she pushed past a frond of fern, wondering if anyone was actually there. With no immediate response, she shrugged it off, amusing herself by wandering around and letting her gaze roam over the greenhouse assortments.

= Luna = 2 | 296Her attention was focused on the petals of a lovely pink hibiscus when an oddly familiar voice pulled it away. Turning to meet the other horse, Luna found that he looked just as surprised as she felt in that moment. She’d really not had expected to see him again, nonetheless in the capitol but Luna found that it felt nice that she at least recognized him.
“Kingston?” The smile he had, no matter how awkward it was, was infectious and she found herself beaming right back. Saying his name only brought her back to the unfortunate way they met and Luna found herself glancing over his feathers briefly. Stop that Luna, he’s not like them, she scolded herself, keeping a bright smile on her face.
Lifting her gaze, she stared in wonder at the plants that hung from the ceiling, mouth open slightly in awe. “Do you own all this?” The question was presented with a soft and curious tone, a slight hint of doubt getting stuck in her throat. It wasn’t that she wasn’t impressed but for a pegasus to start a nice business like this in the city? Luna almost thought that perhaps he was just an employee.
Clearing her throat, she remembered that he had asked if she needed anything. “Oh, uh I was looking to spruce up my room and I wasn’t sure what to look for. Perhaps you have some recommendations?” The confidence in her voice almost startled her. Usually she was very quiet and came off as timid but ever since she earned her fins, she found it was easier to speak up.
She knew exactly what she was looking for too (who wouldn’t if they grew up with plant husbandry?) but she wanted to test his knowledge as well.

= Luna = 3 | 325Something about the way he spoke filled her with delight. Growing up in a village full of agriculturalists gave her a love for plants herself and seeing that King loved them as well… It gave her a certain heartache for home. She missed the simplicity of the villages; although she dearly loved the capitol, the quiet of the country was much prefered.
As he went on his spiel of flowers, Luna kept a small, amused smile on her lips. She did take his suggestions into consideration, however. Snapdragons would be lovely for spring, a touch of the sunset in her room- cherry blossoms would be a nice touch as well. She was so deep in thought that she didn’t even register the gasp that left him until he spoke.
“By Cascade, you’re a hippocampus.”
Luna looked at him with surprise before glancing back at her fins. A soft ‘oh’ escaped her as she too remembered that she seemed to have them. Flicking her ears back in a mix of pride and discomfort, she lifted her head and smiled shyly. Sure, being blessed by Cascade had given her a push to be more confident when she spoke but that didn’t mean she necessarily liked the stares that came with it. It was to be expected really, a common horse with nothing going to bed suddenly having fins the next day? Most would say it was a miracle and that she’d earned them. Sometimes she wondered if she truly did.
“Yes, Cascade blessed me recently,” she murmured, shuffling her hooves as he stared. Others’ reactions had made her proud, albeit sheepish to the attention. His gaze however made her shy back, almost embarrassed.
After a few moments of lingering, awkward silence, Luna cleared her throat and looked to the rest of the store. “Perhaps you could show me what else you have?” She offered quietly, hoping to break him out of the weird state he was in.

= Luna = 4 | 265As soon as he looked away, she relaxed.
She loved her fins, sure, but she still wasn’t accustomed to the stares. The way he looked at her with such shock and almost awe made her want to hide. Even as he looked back at her with more caution, she found she could not meet his gaze, afraid that she’d find him staring once more.
He finally spoke and shifted the focus back onto finding the right plants for her home, much to her relief. Luna bit the inside of her cheek, pale eyes lifting over the ferns hanging from the ceiling. She had come in here knowing what she wanted but now she wasn’t so sure…
She hummed quietly, turning away from him and taking a few steps down the aisle. The cockatiel that had been silent the whole time finally made his presence known again, fluttering off of Luna’s shoulder and zipping onto the rafters. He sang to them from his perch, giving Kingston a high pitched whistle of warning. Luna’s eyes followed him, a soft smile lifting her lips as she chuffed in amusement at her familiar’s antics. It seemed that he was the only good bird here.
Taking her time, Luna allowed herself to study the plants nearby before finally turning her gaze back to the stallion. Their eyes met for a split second before they flicked away again, her ears angling back shyly. “What would you suggest for me?” She murmured, her curled ears focusing in his direction to catch his words yet she still didn’t raise her eyes towards him.

= Luna = 5 | 212Luna wasn’t too blind to miss the relevance of the flower’s name. It seemed fitting, however. She knew of the morning glories that actually bloomed in the morning but moonflowers had their special attributes.
She followed him over to the shelf where the blooms lay, admiring the pattern of the closed petals. “You would think they’d call them night glories instead,” she mused quietly, a gentle laugh escaping her lips at her own joke. She glanced towards him quickly to seek his response towards her humor, meeting his gaze and smiling brightly without shying away immediately.
The eye contact didn’t last long, however, as she went back to looking at the flowers. She adored morning glories, appreciating how they only opened up during specific times. Most would think that a flower that doesn’t bloom all day long would be useless but Luna related to them. Allowing them their own time to open and show off the beauty they held inside with only a few being able to see that.
She frowned slightly, still seeing King’s unmoving form out of the corner of her eye. Perhaps she misjudged him. He wasn’t being malicious or anything negative… Just nice. For a pegasus at least.
“I’ll take them,” she murmured, dipping her head towards him.

= Luna = 6 | 189Luna’s stomach fluttered with delight as he picked up the blossoms, her mood instantly lifting from the earlier anxious state she was in. She was excited to have something to brighten up her room and this was perfect. He’d certainly get a good review from her. The store was so lovely, even if it was run by a pegasus. Although he’d been just a little bit invasive in the beginning, she couldn’t help but actually feel comfortable calling him an acquaintance. Maybe even a friend. Perhaps Cascade would be pleased with this.
The thought made her smile.
Looking up, she let out a soft whistle, signalling for William to come down from the rafters. She waited patiently while the ever loyal bird sailed down and landed on her back, singing a happy little melody to her. Smiling brightly, she followed King to the register, pulling out her little pocket of spare shards she’d earned in her work at the palace. She held it open expectantly, locking eyes with him once more.
“How much will it be?” She murmured, ready to purchase her treasure and go home to plant it.
