The celebration was at a high, music and laughter filling the streets as Inaria’s citizens celebrated a new beginning.
Luna was among them, drifting among the party goers in a more relaxed state with William sitting on her withers. With Thalassa rising to be the new Empress, she had no idea what her station was anymore. The Empress had promised they’d discuss it soon enough but she was allowed to just enjoy the festivities for now.
So she did.
With the new age came new looks. Luna was dressed her best, a new veil (gifted from Thalassa) and flowers strung with pearls adorning her body. Her blonde locks dyed the color of Cascade’s ocean, she looked like a brand new person. Her father had almost burst into tears over her new look, telling her how much she looked like her mother. That almost made her cry as well.
She stretched her neck over the crowd to see if she could spot her father anywhere, hoping he was at least enjoying himself. It would do the old man good to have some fun after the months of stress they’d all gone through.
Lost in her own thoughts, she didn’t watch where she was going. The alarmed whistle of William came too late as a heavy weight crashed into her and she wound up on the cobble ground, dazed and out of breath.

The first thing she registered was how much her chest hurt. Whoever she’d run into was built like stone and by the gods did it hurt.
The second was William’s piercing whistle in her ears. He was angry, she could tell by the sound of wings flapping furiously and high-pitched screaming.
Groaning, she shook her head at the other horse’s words, pushing herself onto her hooves. Her pearls had unfortunately fallen from her frame, she noticed.
“No I’m ok- William stop yelling,” she begged her bird to calm down, looking up at the other. At least he’d had the kindness not to run off after knocking into her.
Ocean met the sky as their eyes locked, Luna finding herself staring deep into the gaze of one who matched her. It took her a moment to come back to her senses as she was suddenly aware of just how open they were and that they were both staring intensely. She dropped her gaze, flicking her ears back in embarrassment as she focused on anywhere but his face.
“I’m so sorry I wasn’t watching where I was going-” she started to apologize, only to be cut off as she noticed the feathers along his shoulders. Her mouth gaped slightly for a moment before she reminded herself it wasn’t polite to stare at any pegasus, with or without wings. She shook her head, glancing back at his face momentarily before smiling awkwardly.
“Uh well- I hope you enjoy the festival,” she chirped before sidestepping around him, promptly forgetting her pearls on the ground.

She’d only gotten so far when his quiet voice made her stop in her tracks. Something about the quiet plead forced her heart to twist but she couldn’t even think about why he would stop her.
Luna turned her head and noticed the pearls in his teke, heat flushing to her face as she realized they’d fallen from their collision. Embarrassment pricked her skin and she let her ears fall back slightly, retracing her steps and coming back close to him. Lowering her head slowly, she allowed him to lift the pearls and place them carefully around her ears.
Time seemed to slow as she finally looked back up at him, her breath hitching in her throat as she met his gaze once more. He seemed so sweet, so gentle- the feathers were hard to overlook though. The last time Luna had come face to face with a pegasus well… It wasn’t a good time for her.
A soft sigh escaped her lips as she offered him a sweet smile, trying to make up for her behavior only moments ago. “Thank you,” she murmured, dipping her head politely before she turned to leave. Something made her pause though as she glanced back at him once more.
“What’s your name? So I may know you if I see you again.”
Certainly she had no intentions of doing so but Cascade always had something in store.

Kingston. His name was sweet, almost fitting if he didn’t look so shy. A small smile crept onto her lips as he asked for hers in return.
“I’m Luna,” she murmured in response, her eyes bright as she made eye contact with him again. It was brief as a sudden shout from the crowd startled her and drew her attention away from him. Once the celebrators had settled, she glanced back at King and laughed quietly.
“Well I guess we should probably get back to the party,” she suggested lightly, having forgotten the previous incident for the moment. “It was nice meeting you!”
Dipping her head politely, she collected her still fuming cockatiel under her veil and turned back to disappear into the crowd. Once she was away, she let out a soft breath, unsure why her heart was still racing. He was sweet and courteous but those feathers… Perhaps he was just blessed that he didn’t have wings. Luna snorted to herself, a heavy weight settling in her gut as she felt guilt creep in.
Was she being too judgemental? Perhaps…
Shaking her head, Luna decided that it would be a thought for another day. Right now she could only just enjoy herself.
