Othala | Freedom's Flight | Medic I don't wanna hurt you, it's not my nature.
Thick fog lay over the jungle this evening and the light rain offered just a blurred view over the lights of Inaria and the surrounding villages in the distance. She was so close to her old home, yet it felt further away than ever before. Even the Aerie had changed. The Flock's camp in the mountains had always been lively despite the tough conditions, but now it was quiet, a gathering place for the often gloomy thoughts of it's remaining inhabitants. So many had left...many friends or at least close acquaintances. She took in a shaky breath and fought to prevent the tears streaming from her eyes again, as she thought about the farewell. Othala was glad for those that decided to begin a new life, far away from the violence of their old one, but it was hard to stay behind. At least Renata stayed in the Aerie as well, her mentor was someone to lean on and she was more than thankful for the mares support.
Another good reason to stay had visited her only a few minutes after the tears had dried once more. Whitaker had told her that someone was in need of medical assistance at his little cave dwelling on the ground level. She had agreed to look after that patient soon and he had disappeared again, maybe set out for a patrol. Othala hadn't asked him. Swiftly she packed up some basic instruments and herbs, actually she doubted that she would need any of those, her blessing would do most of the work, but she liked being prepared for everything.
It still felt strange to her to fly down to the "basement" of the Aerie, for she had spent most time in the higher parts of the camp so far. Her patient either wasn't a Pegasus or not in the constitution to fly. So far she also hadn't had the chance to ask Whitaker why he moved from his comfortable tree-house into...a cave. For a moment she stood before the dwelling, almost hesitant for unknown reasons, before she knocked her hove against the stone. "Hello? May I come in? I'm a medic, Whitaker has send me" she called out.

He had slipped and fell. There was nothing to it, really. He had gotten a bit too confident in his climbing, wanting so desperately to be up at the top of Aerie with the other Flight members. However, his cloven hooves had taken him only as far as they could, and it wasnt long before they slipped on the smooth surface of a boulder and down tumbling the kirin colt went. He blamed it on the soft drizzle of rain. If the rocks hadnt been wet, he would have been able to make it! They were just slippery!
However, Whitaker was having none of his excuses, and he told Gaelan to stay put and wait for a medic. As hard as it was to listen to his dad's orders, Gaelan was hurting too much to rebel. His knees were scraped up, his leg hurting with pressure, and there were several other smaller wounds scattered across his body. No matter how many times he protested and claimed he was fine, he sure didnt feel fine. He couldnt remember the last time he had felt this pain, or seen his own blood staining his coat.
The colt laid out on a bed of pelts and leaves, his hooves stretched out before him, his head on the ground. Before him was his familiar, Fang, an Emerald Tree Boa. The snake tickled the colt's nose with its tongue, bobbing his head as Gaelan giggled. If there was anything Fang was good for, it was keeping Gaelan distracted.
At the sound of a hoof rapping against the rock outside, Gaelan's head flung up, large ears pointed forward and eyes wide. Fang scuttled to his side, hiding against the colt's side and poking his head over his back to see who it was.
The mare at the mouth of the cave claimed to be a medic, which Gaelan remembered Whitaker had called her. He wasnt sure what a medic was, but Whitaker had made it sound good. Like she was going to help his pain go away.
Taking a glance toward Fang, the colt's whiskers flicked with curiosity.
"Come in!" He called back, tucking his hooves closer to him in case he had to stand.

Othala | Freedom's Flight | Medic I don't wanna hurt you, it's not my nature.
For a moment she waited in silence, but then a childlike voice answered her. Why was there a foal in Whitakers dwelling? Well that was something she could ask him about later, for if the child was harmed, she shouldn't waste any more time standing before the cave. When she entered, her eyes had to accustom to the weak light inside for a while, before she actually could see the little colt clearly. "Hello, my name is Othala and don't worry I...", her voice cracked for a moment when she started to examine his body from the distance, to maybe already detect some external injuries. He was laying on the ground, what made it a little difficult for her, but what actually made her falter, was the shimmering of light on his body. The Light refracted at something on his body...green scales? And where that small antlers on his head? What in Cascade's name was he?
The medics thoughts finally returned to the here and now when the colt made an almost suppressed, pained sound. Immediately she felt bad for standing around uselessly and wondering, while a child was hurt and needed her help. "I'm here to help you. You don't have to stand up if that position is more comfortable to you" she told him and banned any hesitation from her voice. Instead she tried to surround herself with a calming and happy aura, just as she learned it in her training. A stirred and nervous healer wasn't a help to anyone. "So, what is your name little one, huh? Would you mind telling me what happend to you? That are some proper abrasions that you have there. Does anything else hurt badly? Can you move all of your legs?" she asked. In the end it wouldn't really matter what he will tell her, for her blessing would detect any violation later, but it was good to have him talking, to forget the pain a little.
"I can also give you some herbs to numb the pain for a while, if they are too great." she assured him and walked a circle around him for a moment to gain an overall impression from him, both for medical reasons and her own curiosity. Suddenly, something, as green as the colts scales, moved right before her eyes. Surprised and a little shocked she moved back a few steps, until she realized what that moving thing was. "Oh, is that your familiar? What a beautiful specimen!". She could almost laugh about herself, why was she so nervous today?

Large ears flicked forward at the sound of hooves echoing through the cave, her voice following. She introduced herself as Othala.. he recognized that name. Could he pronounce it? Not very well, but he could remember it. However, her voice faded before she could finish her sentence and he could feel her eyes burning on his scales. He was used to this reaction from others, but he didnt understand why. Didnt pegasi recognize their fellow kind? Sure, he didnt have wings yet, but he would some day! Was he really that different? Especially after the events at the temple, and how the others had been nervous around him after his outburst, he felt especially self conscious.
He tried to tuck more into himself as he liked, wrapping his tail around his body, but the movement caused pain to shoot through his shoulder. He whimpered softly from the pain, freezing in place. His ears pressed back as she stepped closer to him, eyes wide as he looked over the stranger himself. She had wings too, maybe he could trust her.
She suddenly started to speak to him, asking his name and where he hurt. He found himself becoming a little more comfortable around her, as she was no longer staring in silence, and actually asking questions.
"Gaelan." He said, short and simple to his name. "Uh.. i fell." He tried to explain, turning his neck as she circled him. She mentioned his familiar and a wide smile found his lips, removing all doubt he had before.
"Fang!" He exclaimed, grabbing the little snake softly by the neck and dragging him out of his hiding spot. He held the snake out before him, head held high with pride and eyes gleaming with excitement. "He's my snake. I.. found him lost and brought him home." By now, he had forgotten about some of the pain in his legs as he struggled to hold Fang still. The snake wriggled from his grasp and tucked himself back at the kirin colt's side. He wasnt a fan of being shown off, but Gaelan was proud of his little pet.
He moved his leg to allow the snake to slither into him, and that movement reminded him of his fall, pain ebbing where skin had been scraped. He looked back toward his injuries and huffed.
"They hurt." He said softly, wishing he could explain more, but lacked the words.

Othala | Freedom's Flight | Medic I don't wanna hurt you, it's not my nature.
A minimal change in his posture was all she needed to know that his feelings were hurt. Either with her words or her posture. It was irrelevant how, the only important thing was that she had done it. And it made her feel ashamed. Some more she could think about once Gaelans wounds were tended to.
"Gaelan huh? Would you do something for me Gaelan? Can you promise me to only climb again when you are with an adult?" she requested with a warm smile and finished her examination. He wouldn't need any painkilling herbs and he was probably more than lucky that nothing more serious than abrasions and bruises had happend. She should probably ask Whitaker to speak with Gaelans parents about this. It was more than irresponsible to let such a young colt wandering around in that terrain without any superstition.
It warmed her heart to see him smile, and how openly he presented his pet to her. Othala was relieved that he apparently didn't took amiss of her previous behavior. "Fang can be happy that you found him. Take good care of your little friend" the mare replied amused and watched how he flinched as he moved to give his snake a little more space. "It will stop hurting soon, I promise. Try to lay still for a while and relax. I...have a special gift. It might feel a little warm, but not uncomfortable. You won't feel any pain afterwards." Othala almost felt like she had been taken back to her childhood. She had always been the older sibling, the eldest sister in charge to watch over her sibs. Well that didn't went to well, if she looked at her family now. Concentrate she exhorted herself and restored the warm smile on her face that somehow got lost as her thoughts had began to wander.
Slowly she began to stretch out her telekinetic feelers, her teke glowing a a soothing, turquoise, color. "Relax, trust me" she reminded him and guided the warmth of her blessing through his body, sensing destroyed and broken cells and regenerating them. Much time had passed since she earned the blessing, and yet she was still awed by that power, and the mercy of her goddess. Other patients had told her that it didn't hurt. Most described a warm feeling or a tingle, sometimes also a tickle, usually when she tried to heal broken bones.
The procedure was tiring, but it had been much worse on other occasions. Bruises and abrasions were easy to heal, in contrast to other violations that she had seen during that war. And it still wasn't over...
"How do you feel?" she asked silently and a little absent because she still put most of her concentration in the healing process. It would take a few more minutes, but then it should be done.
