Joanne Got no way to prove it So maybe I'm blind But I'm only human after all
x | x Standing in a rose bush, staring up at a lattice covered in vines and wondering just how the hell to get up to that window wasn’t the strangest place Joanne had ever found herself in. Being a baker and part-time smuggler, the pink haired woman had found herself in all sorts of strange places, ranging from 100 feet below valore to the back of a bread baking oven (both very terrifying) Thing was Joanne hadn’t really wanted to go to those places, but right now? Oh well, right now she was turning every single gear in her head trying to map out the best route up this wall without cracking her skull open.
Leila’s estate was beautiful, crafted by the finest big shots and gardened by real professionals who probably wouldn’t appreciate her standing knee deep in one of their rose bushes. The front door was almost always open to the baker, and Joanne had found herself camping out in one of the various rooms of the manor many times before but this time the front door just wouldn’t cover it. To put it lightly, both women had had very rough weeks, and with all the chaos currently happening in their grand city, Joanne had wanted to plan something nice for her girlfriend.
So there she stood, satchel of cookies and other baked goods secured on her belt, staring up at the second story window where Joanne was pretty sure Leila’s room was. Clapping her hands and mentally preparing herself, the pink haired women began to climb up the lattice. She definitely wasn’t the quietest thing in the world, but she was slowly making her way up “Leila!” she half yelled as quietly as she could, glancing around before continuing her way up.

It was only at night the noble seemed to have the means to relax.
She’d drawn a hot bath not too long ago, allowing herself to sink down into the boiling water and just forget. The level of stress she had leaving that court was enough to make her head burst. So it was here she settled, letting the aroma of the bath clear her senses and let her mind go empty.
A familiar voice shattered that stillness.
Leila sat up and stared out from her bathroom, pale eyes immediately locking onto the open windows in her chambers. Was that… Joanne’s voice?
Frowning, she climbed out of her tub, pulling on a silk robe and making her way to the window. Looking down, she let out a shocked gasp seeing Joanne clinging to the lattice. What in Ignacio’s name was she doing here? Crawling up the wall like some baboon? She rolled her eyes, almost amused by her girlfriend’s antics.
“Joanne what the hell are you doing? You’re going to get yourself killed!” She hissed, leaning from the window and holding out a hand for the other woman to grab. Pulling her inside, Leila gave her a flat stare, placing her hands on her hips.
“You do realize that the front door is wide open for you,” she remarked dryly, slightly upset that she was pulled from her moment of peace. She was only fully aware that she was dripping wet and barely clothed in front of her oh so smug lover.
A dramatic sigh left her as she strolled over to her love-seat, pouring herself a glass of wine and sitting nonchalantly. “Want to amuse me with the tale of why you’re here?” She let a smile hint on her lips before she took a long drink, crossing her legs to keep her girlfriend from getting any ideas.

Joanne Got no way to prove it So maybe I'm blind But I'm only human after all
x | x Too focused on her climbing, Joanne hadn’t realized that Leila had, in fact, heard her when she had called her name. It was only her gasp that made Joanne's head snap upwards, almost losing her footing but grinning none the same. She was always happy to see Leila, especially when she was actually relaxed for once… but from the look her face, Joanne’s monkey antics were probably doing quite the opposite “Hey babe!” she chuckled almost nervously, clearing her throat and grinning when Leila offered her a hand. No matter how long Joanne had been around Leila, the noblewoman always managed to steal away her charm and collectedness. Of course, she did her best to play it off and act as cool as a cucumber but there was something about Leila’s aura that always made her stumble twice as hard.
Yanking herself up the last little bit of the Lattice, Joanne hefted her legs into the wind and stood triumphantly in front of her girlfriend, a large grin plastered on her face as she stood with her hands on her hips, almost mirroring the women in front of her. Brushing off stray leaves from her jacket, Joanne scoffed and turned her head up at Leila’s words, eyebrows raising as a smug smile replaced her victory grin “Front doors are boring,” she exclaimed, turning around and opening her arms wide “haven’t you ever read one of those cheesy romance novels? Ya know, An eternal flame or Blazing hearts, that sort of shit!” she explained, glancing behind herself “Front doors aren’t romantic, Leila. Scaling a wall and valiantly leaping through a window? Now that’s romantic!” Of course, that’s not exactly how Joanne’s plan had played out, but hoisting herself up a wall and stumbling through the window was close enough.
Turning herself around with a flourish, it was only now that Joanne realised that Leila was basically naked, silk robe clinging to still wet skin. It was only then that Joanne also realised that she had probably interrupted a soothing bath. Clearing her throat as a blush spread up her cheeks, Joanne grinned once more and nodded vigorously “but of course!” walking over to the table where Leila’s wine glass currently resided, Joanne untied the satchel around her waist and began to carefully remove its contents “Turns out someone at the shop made a couple too many batches of various pastries. Spoiler alert, that someone was me” She finished, Jabbing a thumb into her shoulder as she showed off the spread now residing on the table. Frosted, royal icing cookies, chocolate dipped strawberries and a small decadent cake was now proudly displayed, only slightly squashed. Smirking, Joanne quirked a brow at Leila “Turns out that baker also happens to have a girlfriend who is ever so stressed from the gruelling duties of dealing with other nobles” her tone was light, but her words were sincere.

There was something about Joanne that Leila loved and treasured dearly. Perhaps it was the fact that they were one and the same in their goals or Jo just had that Personality that made anyone upbeat when she was around. Either way, the baker was one of those rare souls that allowed Leila to just simply enjoy the moment and not worry about whatever hell was going on outside.
She rolled her eyes lightly as her girlfriend rambled on about love stories and those eroticas she found her sister sometimes getting into. It was cute, really - Joanne doing everything she could just to show off her love, even though Leila really wasn’t the romantic type.
Her sharp gaze followed Jo over the rim of her glass as the other woman finally delivered what she’d arrived for, features visibly softening as the contents of the satchel were ceremoniously displayed for her. The lengths Joanne went for her just to please her…
Setting down the cup, Leila reached out and plucked a strawberry, letting out a low sigh of delight as she bit into the fruit. Chocolate was her favorite and Joanne knew that all too well.
At her girlfriend’s last remark, she frowned, quickly pouring herself another cup of wine. “You have absolutely no idea,” she muttered bitterly, taking a swig before allowing herself another taste of her knight in shining armor’s decadent baking. “They’re all pompous idiots that either think the world revolves around them or that partying is the only solution to every problem. It’s disgusting!” Leila’s voice was the gateway to her emotions as she allowed herself to express her exhaustion, settling against the arm of her love seat.
She kept her cup at the edge of her lips, staring at the marble floor. “It’s bad enough my parents want me married soon,” she added, her tone quiet.

Joanne Got no way to prove it So maybe I'm blind But I'm only human after all
x | x Brushing off her hands of sugary dust, Joanne beamed as Leila took in her assortment of goods, pride swelling in her chest. It made her heart sore to see the usually stern-faced noble relax for once, letting her walls fall even if it was only a fraction. Joanne watched with her eyebrows raised as Leila carefully selected a strawberry, her smile stretching into a smirk. Snatching her wine glass quickly, she took her own sip. Wine always tasted too bitter for her tongue, but it was always good with a little chocolate. Handing it back to the woman in front of her, Joanne made her own selection from the treats, snatching up a sugar cookie with royal icing before plopping down on the sofa with her girlfriend.
She angled her body towards her, taking a bite out of her sweet treat as she leaned her arm against the back of the sofa and supported her head with it. Her pink eyes were trained on Leila, watching as her face darkened as she spoke about the aforementioned nobles. It made Joanne giggle almost, to picture Leila sitting in a room full of pompous idiots all trying to make the show about themselves, even when they had more important shit to worry about.
It wasn’t often that Joanne spoke seriously, always managing to add a hint of humour to her words even when addressing more dire situations. But now she slowly nodded at Leila’s words, taking another bite of her cookie before speaking, a soft smile on her face. “Got any hot studs lined up? Particularly any with bright ass hair?” She winked. It did not sadden Joanne to think of her girlfriend marrying someone else; she knew that their social stances made it near impossible for them to be wed unless Leila was willing to give up her rank (Joanne would never ask nor force Leila to do that, to change her way of life for someone like her) The day would come when she would be wed, and Joanne would have to share Leila with someone else. Her eyes looked out the window briefly before meeting Leila’s stare once more “You know, it could open up some kinky possibilities in the bedroom” she joked and leaned forward, pressing a quick kiss to her lips “But seriously… you’ll figure it out. You always do babe”

= Leila = 3 | 259 Leila shot Jo a disapproving look as she jested, unable to help but smile at the suggestion though. In all honesty, some part of her did want to call the sweet baker her wife… Titles and laws stood in the way though. Her parents would both equally have a heart attack if she announced that she was marrying a commoner, even if Joanne worked in her mother’s business. It just wasn’t possible.
It wasn’t the prospect of marrying that bothered her really, it was the fear that she’d be stuck in an unhappy marriage like her mother and father. She knew she didn’t have much of a choice when it came to politically marrying but all she wanted was someone she’d actually get along well with. The dream of true love was one that was thrown away long ago. The future of their house rested on her shoulders after all.
Jo’s voice brought her from her thoughts and she was thrown off guard as her girlfriend kissed her. “Joanne, you of all people know how selective I am,” she scolded teasingly, letting a sly grin touch her features. “If anything, I’ll most likely be sharing someone with Lilith. She’s been wanting to hound after you ever since I’ve mentioned you like… Once. And you know how keen she is on claiming everyone she can.” Leila made a face, leaning against the baker. “But your sweet self is all mine.”
A genuine laugh left her as she settled back, gazing at the other with a warm expression. “How’s business, love?”

Joanne Got no way to prove it So maybe I'm blind But I'm only human after all
x | x Finishing off her cookie, Joanne munched on it contently while she listened to her girlfriend speak. Scooching over slightly, she took the opportunity to kneel and then practically lie down ontop of her Leila. Her legs and hip were angled away and off of her, chest to chest as Joanne laid down, her head resting just under her chin. Joanne let out a happy sigh and reached to grab another sugar cookie, taking a bite and savouring its sweetness.
However, the mention of Lilith practically had Joanne choking on it, letting out a sputtering cough. Lady Lilith was… one hell of a woman to put it lightly. Powerfully by both her family name and her own built up reputation, the woman commanded any room she walked into with looks and smiles alone. And to be honest? That scared and turned Joanne on in one fell swoop.
Laughing the slight blush that had arose off from Leila’s comment, Joanne shook her head “Ya know, I’ve thought about sending her a gift from the bakery, get in on some other nobles but like…” Joanne squinted and used her cookie to emphasize “I’d have to send like, a million cookies to cover for all her kids and grandkids and shit” she laughed, finishing off her second cookie.
Lying her head back down, Joanne shrugged her shoulders at the question “Decent, got a real big demand for glaze covered fruits and a couple big wedding cakes in the mix. Ignacio’s horns, you should see some of the shit people request!” Shaking her head, she smiled up at Leila “How bout you?”
