Ezmeralda | War-Forged | Herder
She had set out early in the morning before the sun had even had the chance to rise over the horizon to make the trek to Muiris's cabin, leaving her sister to tend to the farm. He often didn't have time to travel to the Farmlands to spend time with her when he was working, and it had been awhile since she had been to his cabin, so Ezmeralda had decided to surprise him. She'd get the fire started to get the cabin warmed up before he returned from working a long day and hopefully make some dinner as well. Who knew when the last time he had had a decent meal was with how busy the Raiders, Valkyries, and anyone else who could fight were nowadays. There was much preparation to do with war hanging over their heads. It wouldn't be long before they were at war, and Ezmeralda wasn't sure when she would get the chance to see Muiris once it did... or if they'd ever see each other again.
The walk would have been a bit nicer if the weather was a little more forgiving. Snow was already falling from the overcast skies and was adding to the already high piles of snow that lined the roads. She'd bundled up in her warmest furs and cloak, determined that a little cold weather wasn't going to stop her from seeing her boyfriend. She wanted to do something nice for him and show how much she cared about him, and a bit of snow and sleet was not going to stop her.
With the declaration of war, anxiety and fear had Ezmeralda in a death-grip, leaving her restless and without sleep ever since she had gotten the news. Her mind had been whirling with possibilities of the future and what would happen and what she was going to do and what would happen to Muiris. Growing up with Raiders in the family, she knew that they often were called away for battle and how they could come back hurt or worse, not come back at all. She hadn't thought that it bothered her before, but, with Muiris, the one who brought her peace and happiness and love like she had thought she would never have or deserved, going to be among the warriors selected to fight, Ezmeralda didn't know how to comprehend all of the thoughts and emotions that had been flooding through her. She could lose him and the thought of that sent a rush of panic through her. She wanted to see him- needed to see him because she didn't know how much time she had left to be with him, and Ezmeralda didn't want to live with any regrets. She was so tired of having regrets of things left unsaid.
She trudged through the snow for hours, climbing into the higher altitude toward the cabin. The path from her home in the Farmland was a familiar one, and even with the snow swirling around her and growing in intensity, her legs carried her confidently in the right direction until, at last, she could see the wooden cabin almost hidden in the snow banks and trees. A shiver ran down her spine at the thought of escaping the numbing cold that had seeped into her bones, and she picked up the pace the rest of the way to the cabin door.
Ezmeralda knocked quietly on the door before peering into a small window on the side of the cabin to see that it was dark inside. Assured that Muiris hadn't made it home yet, she made her way inside after picking up firewood to light a fire.
Letting out a sigh of relief to have escaped the brutal snow storm growing outside, the unicorn mare tossed a few pieces of wood into the fireplace and set them aflame. Already the warmth of the fire was seeping into the cold cabin air. Moving on, Ezmeralda took out the vegetables and broth that she had brought with her to make soup and placed them in a pot over the fire to warm before wrapping herself in a blanket and sitting before the fire. It probably wouldn't be long before Muiris got back with the storm getting worse, and her heart swelled with excitement and glee at the thought of spending time with him after not seeing him in days.

From the moment the sun kissed the horizon to the moment the moon found its place in the sky, Muiris was working. While he loved his rank as a Shield, is was increasingly becoming obvious how little free time he had. He had always been a busy body. He always needed something to do, even if it wasnt relevant. Back when he was a raider, he would fill his free time with training or patrolling, but now? He felt like a stranger to this so-called free time.
However, he had the next day off, so he trudged from his place in the barracks and made his way toward his cabin. He wanted to surprise Ezmeralda at her farm, but he had to drop by the cabin first. With the recent events, and the war looming over their heads, Muiris had decided it was about time to ask her to marry him. It was a huge step for him, especially considering how his last engagement had ended, but it was one he was confident he wanted to take. He had known since the moment he met her that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her, so the decision was easy for him to make.
However hard it was, he still couldnt help but feel nervous. As each hour of the day ticked by, he could feel his chest tightening more and his heart leaping into his throat. His fellow shields had noticed this and asked if he was okay, but he brushed it off. He was fine. He would be fine. Everything was fine.
Even Avonaco had noticed her master's mannerisms and had kept eyes on him all day, her golden gaze sharp. He felt as though she could see right through him, and it wasnt helping.
During his trek to the cabin, snow had started to fall from the dark clouds above. Muiris paused, his breath swirling before his muzzle as he sighed softly. Normally, he welcomed snow, but after the terrible storm they had before, he was convinced any more would bury Onea entirely. The snow was already up to his knees, and he knew he was taller than most. Even Avon had to leap through the snow to travel, sometimes disappearing completely in the deep drifts.
However, he welcomed the cool air that pulled at his loose pony tail, the breeze helping to calm his nerves. By the time he had made it to the cabin, a layer of fallen snow had already gathered on his back. Avon found her place at his hooves as they got closer to the door, the path to the cabin plowed down.
Muiris suddenly paused at the sight of a warm glow in the window. His brow narrowed as he slowly approached, Avon taking her place before him. She sniffed the hoof prints in the snow, but did not seem worried. Muiris knew she was not kind to strangers, so whoever was behind the door, was someone he knew. Who would stay here this late? He thought to himself as he pressed open the door with a creak.
The door opened to reveal Ezmeralda sitting by the fire, covered by a blanket, and a pot of soup over the fire. Avon busted past Muiris and, while tracking snow across the floor, settled herself by the fire. Her nose worked as she tried to get as close to the pot as possible without getting burned.
"Ezzie?" Muiris spoke up, unable to hide the surprise in his voice as he shook the snow from his back and stepped through the door. While he was excited - overjoyed, actually - to finally get to see her after the many days they had been apart, this had certainly thrown a hitch in his plans. Closing the door behind him, he shivered as he was met with the blazing warmth of the fire.
"I guess we both had the same idea, I was just about to head down to the farm to surprise you." He grinned with a soft chuckle, making his way over to her and giving her a kiss on the forehead. "What do you have there?" He nodded toward the pot over the fire.

Ezmeralda | War-Forged | Herder
Ezmeralda watched through one of the small windows as the world outside grew darker and snow fell to the earth in flurries. Muiris wouldn't be back until late probably. Working as a Shield was a bit different than a Raider. It meant more hours and different responsibilities. Protecting the War-Lord herself was a tough and long job, but Ezmeralda was immensely proud of Muiris for his new job, no matter how worried that job now made her with war barking at their heels. He'd be tasked with keeping the War-Lord safe during battle, and she could only imagine how dangerous and violent the fighting was around the leaders. Despite the warmth of the fire, a shiver ran through her as she stirred the soup. What would she do if she lost him? She wasn't sure if she would make it without him at her side. She loved him so much and wanted to spend the rest of her life with him, and the thought of this war taking that opportunity away from them made her heart skip a beat every time she thought about it.
What if he didn't even want to get married? She found herself thinking over and over. She recalled the night when they had first met and the story he had told her of his ex-betrothed. She had broken his heart, but surely, Muiris knew that she wouldn't- couldn't do that to him. His happiness was something that she was always thinking of, and she enjoyed doing little things to make him happy like leaving letters behind for him to read when he left for work or making him food or wool blankets from the sheep that she still kept on her land or even just asking how his day had been. Ezmeralda wasn't sure if marriage was something that he wanted or if he wanted to just be together without the formality of marriage, but she did know that, as long as he was there, she would be happy.
Enveloped in her daydreams, Ezmeralda didn't hear that someone was there until the cabin door swung open and a white canine bolted from the outdoors toward the fire. She nearly jumped out of her own skin, biting her tongue to keep herself from yelping in surprise when she recognized the wolf as Muiris's familiar, Avonaco, who promptly sat down beside the fire as she sniffed at the pot hanging over the flames.
Ezmeralda twisted to see the surprised look on Muiris's face and grinned. "Mui!" She called back happily, stirring the liquid in the pot once more before rising from her seat in front of the fire. "How was work?" She was always curious of how his day had gone and what he had been up to.
A content smile spread across her face as he walked over to her and placed a kiss on her forehead which she returned with a kiss on his cheek. "It had been a few days, and I knew you had been working hard, so I didn't want you to have to travel all the way to the farm just to see me." Ezmeralda rambled and reached to hug him. "And I really wanted to see you," she said, squeezing once before letting him go with a small smile.
Her gaze drifted from him to the pot over the fire. "I made some vegetable soup from some of the vegetables that I grew before the cold weather ruined my chances of growing anything other than carrots and potatoes, and I also brought some bread and wine that I took from Roselia. You know how much she likes to relax a little too much after work." She said with a soft laugh, shaking her head a little. Oh gods, maybe she shouldn't have brought the wine. Was it too much?
"The soup is probably done if you want some." Ezmeralda offered, changing the subject before she could second-guess herself any more.
