"A wise man fears three things: the sea at storm, a night with no moon, and the anger of a gentle man." __________________________________I T H R A N Vagabond | VindicatorDawn broke slowly over the forests, bringing light to a world that had already been awake for some time. Birds chirped in the trees, rodents rustled in the undergrowth and fallen pine needles, and the earth moved and shifted slowly in an ancient rhythm under the hooves of a lone vagabond horse. Or, at least, it seemed to. He couldn't actually sense anything other than a connection, faint sensations of ponderous motion, even something that was almost a slow, contented train of thought.
Ithran smiled to feel the earth around him. It always made him feel more connected to Onea, and to Hiraeth in general. He could feel it as it slowly absorbed everything that happened in and around it over the course of eons. At times like this he felt he could sense the whole land.
A faint rustle in the brush nearby alerted him to the footsteps of Blaze. She had been out tracking down food, wandering far from him, but apparently she had decided to return. Despite her size she was usually eerily silent, and this morning was no exception. She snuffled, keeping pace with him, her muzzle stained with... blackberry juice? Blueberry? He wasn't sure. Cinder chirped from Blaze's back and he laughed softly. The pair of them were nearly inseparable nowadays and he suspected it was partly because Blaze was much, much better at tracking down food than Cinder.
He shifted his attention away from them, turning it back towards the earth underhoof instead. He'd gotten extremely skilled at using his blessing from Kaia. It was second nature, now, to sense the earth, and it was a familiar presence, always there but distant. It tolerated him and occasionally even accepted him, but the power wasn't quite his own. It was Kaia's, lent to him for a time.
Something about it seemed playful today, and he responded in kind. He stopped near the edge of a small glade through which a creek ran. On the bank of the creek, several feet in front of him, He raised a small arch of earth, just tall enough for him to pass through. He raised a small bridge beyond the arch, using stones from the small creek, and cemented it together with clay and a few mental commands. It wouldn't stand long after he left, but it was sturdy enough for him to cross over. He paused for a moment, still on the edge of the glade, to admire his handiwork. Ordinarily he'd have just crossed the stream, but sometimes it was fun to practice, to exercise his mental commands and create something that, while perhaps not exactly pretty, was at least a bit more than needed.
