The morning was warm, the sun already beating down on the lands of Sedo. The winds had kicked up fairly early that morning, waking Briny from her restless sleep. Typically, on a day like this, Briny would be off trotting to work, leaving the other Folk behind in her wake. However, this time, she decided she deserved a little day off. Instead, she figured she would try out the new windracer board she had managed to get hooves on. It wasnt as large or flashy as the ones the windracers used, but it was good enough. It went fast enough to get her adrenaline going and didnt break down from a lot of use.. perfect.
She had told them that she didnt need help using it. It didnt seem to hard to use, after all. What was so difficult about standing on a board and directing it where to go? Turns out, there was a lot more than that. Briny had spent most of the morning crashing, eating sand, and hobbling her way back to the board with the help of the wind pushing her along. She was never a mare to give up, but the rashes on her knees were starting to hurt quite a bit.
Taking in a deep breath with determination on her features, she hauled herself to he hooves for what felt like the thousandth time that day. She marched over to the board laying on the sand and pulled it back upright. One more time. One more try and then she would go home. She didnt need Kristofer fussing over her minor injuries.
Placing her hooves on the board, she pulled herself up, holding onto the rail with a soft glow of her golden teke. Taking in a breath, she pushed it off the ground. The wind played in her hair as the board took off. It only wobbled a little bit, but she was still going! She was doing it!
It seemed as though her confidence got the best of her, and soon, she found herself tumbling back into the sand. This time, Briny did not sand right away. She laid on the ground in defeat, a chuckle leaving her lips as she rested her exhausted muscles. Her board laid on the ground a few steps away, skid marks leading to the small crash.

The sun was shining today, as it was most every day, just the way the stallion liked it. While still young and teased that he wasn't quite stallion material yet, Navjeev took it with a grain of salt, brushing it off and moving on with his life, only focusing on any praise he may have. He had just finished running a few messages among the streets of the city, and it didn't look like anyone else had anything for him to do today. Soon he wanted to find a longer route to send him across the desert sands, but for today, he wanted to have a little fun. Racing up and down the steps of the city just were not enough for him, he needed action out under the sun. His darker pelt tended to burn under the warming rays, so he didn't go out all the time, but he was tired of staying in the shade the last few days, and would risk a little burn for a little excitement. His teke flashed grey green, identical to his eyes, as he grabbed his board and raced along the steps to the lowest levels of the city and out to the sands. It wasn't long before he found a breeze that captured his sail and he sped off, whopping with joy as he adjusted his sail to get the fastest speed he could manage. Snaking across the sands, he did a few circles and figure eights, getting the feel for the winds today, and hoping that perhaps someone from the higher levels of the city were watching. He was a bit of a flirt and enjoyed the attention. Someone was guaranteed to be spellbound by him eventually. It wasn't long before he noticed a few disturbances in the sand. At the speed he was going, it was a wonder he noticed anything at all, but somehow he managed to have enough awareness to avoid obstacles and oddly enough notice strange occurrences. Slowing down, Navjeev made a turn to observe the sand marks. Getting closer, he couldn't help but chuckle, he knew those markings all too well, having made them many times in his past. A bit of nostalgia struck him as he remembered being a young colt with his first board out in the sands trying to master it all on his own. He still had that old board, a gift from his cousin Katarina, painted by 8 year old him to have racing stripes in red and blue. Looking at his current board, it was a far cry different. While he kept a few different sails on hand for different designs, this one he had commissioned an artist to paint a desert scene upon the fabric, blending in with the background but being a beautiful piece on all its own. Shaking his head to stop being so distracted by his memories, his eyes scanned the horizon to find the horse who kept crashing. Sure enough, they weren't too far away, and he kicked his board back into motion once more to approach. Getting closer, he wasn't surprised to find someone much smaller than him, and from a distance, he assumed it was a younger filly. What did surprise him though was even from this distance, he noticed the shark like tail and fins. What was a hippocampus doing so far from a water source? Wasn't it uncomfortable out here under the sun? Navjeev had never been a conversationalist, always on the go trying to do his next job. It didn't surprise him that checking his mental data banks brought him no information on the species. Being the flirt he was, he never tried to be rude, so decided to try to avoid too many questions or statements that may be offensive. Approaching, he could tell this this equine was older than him, opposite of his initial assessment, and he slowed down to not spray sand over the form laying in the dust. Coming to a stop, he stepped off his board, making sure to stand between her and the sun, preventing it from getting in her eyes as he shaded her. "Need a hoof?" Post 1 for Navjeev

Her long ears flicked at the sound of someone approaching, but she kept herself in the sand. Her golden eyes closed as she heard them approach, a small smile on her face. She looked like an idiot, she knew it, but she couldnt help the laugh that bubbled in her throat. She had always been someone who could pick up on other talents quickly, but this one.. oh, this one, she was struggling.
Her eyes peered open as a shadow fell over her, and she found herself face to face with another equine. Briny was typically very good at knowing names, but she didnt know the name of the large stallion that hovered over her. He asked if she needed help, and she let out the giggle she had been holding back as she rolled over onto her hooves.
"Im fine." She replied as she shook the sand from her curly coat. She glanced behind him, noticing his racer board propped nicely in the sand.. a contrast to hers that was crashed into a drift. She tipped her head ever so slightly, long ears flopping to the side.
"Youre a windracer?" She asked, nodding to his board before taking the few steps to pull her own out of the sand. "I'm a water gatherer, but i got this a few days ago, just to play with it." She explained. "And its great for travelling.. when you can actually stay on." She chuckled. "Maybe youd like to give a newbie like me some pointers?" She grinned. She was always good at making friends, and had no shame in asking for help. This stranger seemed nice enough, even if she had to crane her neck just to look him in the eye.
"What's your name?" She continued to speak, not really giving him a chance to answer. "My name's Briny."

The laugh from the equine in the sand confused the stallion for a moment, but not as much as her appearance did. He hadn’t interacted with many hippocampi, but here was one, far from the water. For having such a bulky tail, the shark hippocampus was able to easily get to her feet, and Navjeev was somewhat impressed. As she questioned him about himself, he couldn’t help but grin, she seemed a very friendly and talkative sort, and he thought he might not get a word in as she kept on talking. Eventually though, she ran out of steam, and he could answer all of the questions she had asked of him. “Ah yes, I am a windracer. My name is Navjeev. It does indeed look like a newbie such as yourself could use some pointers. A water collector doesn’t seem like someone who I’d find on a windracer board out in the middle of the desert. Especially such as from a hippocampus such as yourself.” He stood back and looked at her posture, seeing which hooves she put her weight on, and how she was balanced. Using his teka, the same grey green that made up his eyes grabbed her board, and he carried it over to them. Setting it upright, he went to work adjusting the sails and handles, making sure it was all level and straight. As he worked, he talked about what he was doing. “To make sure that you aren’t crashing as much, you have to make sure your board is in good shape. Too many imperfections can throw off your balance. One of my cousins couldn’t figure out what she was doing wrong until I pointed out a nasty divot in the bottom that would catch. I have wore out sails to the point where they had thinning points and small holes in them, which made a huge difference in the aerodynamics.” Standing back he admired his handiwork, and set it down in front of her. “Now, you’re used to swimming and using your tail to propel and steer. I wonder if that’s part of your problem. You are supposed to move with the board, not move and steer the board to move with you. I also notice you seem to put a lot of weight into that hoof,” he pointed to the offending hoof as he spoke, “and you need to compensate for that, as that will tilt the board more to that side. Any questions so far?” Post 2 for Navjeev
