Muiris - War-Forged Raider -
A wall of snow hit like a truck. One moment, it was like normal snowfall. Everyone was used to this kind of weather, having made the huge mountain their home; but then came the storm. The wind howled, snow whipped in all directions. Darkness started to fall, sucking away the warmth and the light from the sun and leaving the group in a struggle to keep together. Shouts could be heard as the group tried to stick together. The wind played tricks, carrying the voices of the struggling equine to places they were not, fooling anyone who played along into thinking their teammates where in the opposite direction of where they actually where. Muiris had taken the lead, his thick feathered hooves sinking into the deepening snow as he tried to peer through the storm. Behind him, stood the two scouts he had managed to find- Fox and Kell. Some of his hair had come loose from its bounds- flapping wildly in the wind against his snow-packed roaned coat. He stood still and silent, his snow-lined ears on a constant swivel to try to find the others. His deep brown eyes glared through the storm, his vision blurred by the flurries in his face and the ice on his eyelashes. The others were no where to be found- they had no choice but to press on and hope to run into them further down the mountain. He quickly whipped around the face the remaining of his team, holding his head high and taking a deep breath.
"We need to keep going!" He shouted, barely audible at the storm tried to steal his breath. "The others will be fine- the storm will settle down." At least he hoped it would.. One could only be optimistic in a situation like such if they wanted to make it out alive. He clenched his teeth at the thought and sighed, jerking his head to the side to motion for them to follow, and turned around. His eyes were set hard and cold as he skimmed what he could see before him, which wasnt much, to give the storm some credit. He lowered his head against the wind, his eyes squinting and aimed toward the ground. As long as they were going down the mountain, they would be good, right? Right. The stallion pressed forward, one thick hoof in front of the other. He was grateful for the iron horseshoes he had managed to get a hold of before this, their neatly spaced spikes digging into the ground and giving him the perfect traction for fighting such a storm. He sent a glance back behind him, making sure the scouts were keeping up.

Kell | Scout Kell was glad for her winter coat. It made this trek through knee-deep swirling snow a little less bone-chilling, a little less frustrating. A little. Not much. There still remained the fact that they were in a snowstorm to begin with; she would have to have a word with the weather witches when they got back. Preferably a vulgar one. If this was what they had called a little light snow (that had just so happened to come a day early) then they needed a little more sense in their heads (and Kell was all too happy to give them her opinion of their weather-predicting skills). Ears laid flat against her head, the grey mare shook the gathering snow off of her back with a snort. Their group had originally been bigger; there had been more horses at first, but they had fallen behind, and Kell wasn't about to freeze her ass off waiting for them. They would survive; they were War Forged. "Where are we supposed to meet them?" She had to raise her voice to a hoarse shout to be heard over the howling wind. She supposed that they should begin trying to find the damn ambassadors. Assuming that the Seroran delegate was where they should be, at least. Not to mention that everything looked the same in this featureless white mountain on a rapidly darkening night. WC: 229

She squeezed her eyes shut and tried to remember a time when she was warm, baking in the heat of the sun. Summer? It seemed eons away in either direction.
Welcome to Onea, Serorans. It's a little different from your home. She chuckled at the irony of an extreme Onean climate greeting the desert-dwellers.
She opened her eyes, but it didn't matter- she only saw the faint outlines of Muiris's and Kell's rumps amidst the blizzard, and night was falling fast. She wondered how much longer she'd be able to see them before darkness smoked the land like thick velvet. The landscape that she knew like the front of her hoof was cloaked behind spiraling snow, in every direction. She felt a strange vertigo, knowing she'd walked this place a million times but couldn't see it, couldn't tell.
What did Muiris say? She could barely hear him over the roar of the wind. Snow flitted onto her lashes, and she shook her head, forelock sweeping back past her ears.
Earlier was the first time she had met anyone in her team. A quiet Raider and a grumpy Scout were her current companions. There had been more, originally, but they became disjointed. One second there were more bodies walking next to her, and the next moment they were swept away in the wind. She hoped they were together. Even for a WF horse, this weather was brutal. And even the best Scout wouldn't be able to tell Skeldr from a tall conifer.
Fox looked ahead again. Muiris, a Raider. He was surprisingly calm and soft-spoken for a Raider. Or maybe she was just accustomed to the rough brutes her father galavanted with.
But Kell, those wings... they sent shivers down Fox's spine. They were eerie, like the mare was part dragon. Fox snorted. Would certainly make sense.
"Maybe we should stop and regroup!" she screamed over the wind. Night was falling faster than anyone wanted, and it would make their trek thrice as difficult.

Muiris - War-Forged Raider -
The stallion paused, his ears flicking back at the sound of the mares' voices behind him. He waited and allowed for them to catch up for the sake of his own voice, his brown orbs fixated on their forms moving through the thick storm. His shoulders inclined softly in a shrug, and he let out an exasperated sigh. "Not sure." He replied with a curt nod toward Kell. His gaze flashed quickly over her large bat wings- curiosity peaking on how they havent frozen off yet in this cold? "We were supposed to meet in town, but our jolly little get together seems to have turned into a search party." He huffed, his breath spitting out before him and getting brisked away quickly by the violent weather. His eyes flashed to the sky, a glare in place on his features .. Had he believed in the gods, he would be cursing their names right now.
His attention flicked to Fox as she approached with her opinion. He shook his head, blinking the snow from his eyes. "No, we should continue-" His reply was cut off by a grasp of cold air down his throat, causing him to duck his muzzle by his chest until it passed. His nose twitched, wiggling the tiny prongs that were supposed to act as horns atop his nose. Shaking the sudden snowfall off his face, he cleared his throat. "We'll be fine! The others can care for themselves and it would be better if we split up anyways. We'll cover more ground." He replied, looking back toward the shorter sabino mare, determination in his tone. He refused to give up. He had failed enough missions in his life, and he really wanted to do well on this one. A small smile parted his lips and he chuckled. "Besides, its just a bit of sn-" Cut off once again by a gust of wind, as if it were trying to prove his point. "-snow." He added with a shake of his thick mane and a jerk of his head as he started walking once more. Yeah, just a bit of snow.

Kell | Scout
Had she felt more humorous, she would have laughed at Muiris's words. Just a bit of snow, he said. As if this were a light little shower that would pass in twenty minutes' time, and not a full-blown blizzard that sent chills into the hearts of even the tallest pines. Had she felt more humorous, she would have made some flippant comment back, something about the delegates receiving a warm welcome from both the War-Forged herd and its land.
But Kell was not feeling humorous. The biting, screaming, kicking gusts, feeling more like horse than wind, had driven away any humor she'd had before, and had left her with the temper of, appropriately, a dragon. In fact, the chill had sharpened her temper to a knife-sharp point, and she was most definitely not in the mood for cheer and assorted happy things.
So instead she had bared her teeth (big mistake; her teeth were ice-cold and her mouth dry before she could even articulate anything) and given the stallion's rump a glare that was nearly, nearly hot enough to melt ice. "Shut up."
The idea that they were either hopelessly lost or unable to find their way around was not very appealing to the rose grey mare; but secretly, she found the latter concept absolutely terrifying. If they couldn't even tell the slopes roofs and bright lights of Skeldr town in this blizzard, they were doomed to die a wretched, icy death.
So she snorted to drown those thoughts out, and kept forcing her hooves to move. Better to walk than to freeze.

Fox | War-Forged | Scout | 259 words
Exasperation churned in her body. Were they just going to walk forever? This isn't just snow, Muiris. At the sight of Kell's narrowed expression, her own temper flared.
"Stop!" She called again over the flurries. "We need to stop!" Tears of frustration sprang behind her eyes. Her throat burned.
"Do we even know we're going in the right direction? Where the hell are we?" She shook the gathering snow off her grizzly pelt. "We're looking for a needle in a haystack. A dark haystack. This is impossible. All because of Hira." She normally admired and respected the War Lord, but her mental capacities were fried, and it metastasized into snark.
She paused, considering her words. They seemed to hang in the white noise of the wind and snow, like daggers dangling on strings. She sighed.
"I'm sorry. I'm just tired. Physically and emotionally. I'm about ready to give up."
Muiris had been so kind and patient with the two of them, being a kind and quiet strength throughout the evening despite the mares being.... well, mares. She blinked back her tears, and walked over to the stallion, feeling very small and annoying. She gently touched him on the shoulder with her muzzle. "I'm sorry. I know you're doing your best." She let out a shuddering laugh. "I wouldn't blame the delegates if they took one look at this weather and turned around-"
Wait. What was that?
Ears pricked. Breath stopped.
Noise. Lilts and echoes on the wind, the cadence of speech rustling through the snowfall. Voices? Who was nearby?

Muiris - War-Forged Raider -
The stallion rolled narrow brown eyes at the pegasus' comment, his own temper threatening to flare at her rude response. But he snorted it off, steam rolling from his nostrils just to get pummeled out of existence by the harshness of the blizzard. Now was not the time to get snippy at each other- that would only make matters worse. His ears flattened against his neck as the smaller mare started shouting, causing him to dig his large hooves into the snow in a hard halt. An irritated glint flashed through his eyes as he leaned his head around to look back, finding a rather displeased Fox. Mares. He huffed gruffly in his mind. He did not partake in the sexist thoughts of his herd, but sometimes he could see where they were all coming from. Had he been with other Raiders, they would have been down the mountain by now, and with less squabbling too. Muiris opened his mouth to respond, but was cut short while she continued. His teeth gritted together at her mention of the fault of Hira- anger once again boiling up through his blood. He took in a deep breath, silence falling between the trio as he tried to calm his flaring temperament.
His ears flicked back toward the smaller mare as she started speaking once more, his eyes reopening as he felt her soft muzzle against his shoulder. His skin twitched from the contact, but it seemed to help him calm down.. at least a little bit. He let out a large breath, a hint of an understanding smile tugging at the corners of his lips. "Understandable." He replied, his ears twitching to the side. "But i would be careful placing blame on our leader. She is only doing whats best for the herd." He looked down to Fox, then allowed his gaze to travel over to Kell. "We are War-Forged, we do not give up. To give up is to die- which will surely happen if we stay bickering in this damn forsaken storm." He grumbled bitterly toward the little flurries, the wind once again hitting his coat with vicious vigor.
The stallion's head suddenly jerked up, his mane flopping harshly against his neck from the sudden movement, the same sound reaching his own ears. He shifted his hooves, now facing the direction of the muffled voices carried on the rapid wind. He could tell Fox had heard it from her interrupted speech, but.. He turned to Kell, his brow quirking. "Did you hear that?" He asked, his tone strained in hope that it was only the storm playing a trick on their worn out minds.

Kell | Scout
Kell's limbs were starting to grow worryingly numb. While she'd lost all feeling below her knees a while back, the sinister whispers of numbness were creeping farther and farther up her legs and wings. Her hooves were already beginning to give way from nothing to a deep-seated ache, and the same was happening to the exposed skin of her scars. That was... bad. Twisting her head around, she noticed that a healthy coating of snow had already settled on her wings and back. That was good; the snow blanket would help to keep some of her body heat in.
Kaia above and helow, the chestnut scout was spoiled. Kell was seventy percent sure she detected the hint of a whine in Fox's voice, and found herself wondering how the hell the sabino mare had even become a scout in the first place. Torn between a mixture of contempt, surprise, and confusion, the greying mare was unable to come up with a reply for a few seconds. "Spoiled," she finally muttered under her breath. Ever the eloquent one, she was.
"Oh, you're tired?" she snapped, louder. "We just lost half our group, we're supposed to find a bunch of low-landers who are probably already dead from hypothermia, and we're lost in a blizzard, and you want to go home?" There was no stopping her tirade now; she was on full steam, and there was little poor Fox and Muiris could do to placate her frustration. "Well, I got news for you, princess. I'm tired too. I'm freezing my ass off just as much as you, but you don't hear me complaining. So you better shut up and start acting like a - what?" Unsure whether Muiris was just trying to get her to stop or was genuinely concerned, Kell kept her ears pinned for a moment longer, but common sense won out eventually. Pricking her ears warily, she stopped talking and listened.
Her heart thudded with a sickening lurch. Yes, she heard something. Voices; louder at first, but they hushed after a few moments. The unmistakable crunch of footsteps in the snow; footsteps that weren't theirs. The grey scout darted a worried glance at the other two horses, all previous quarrels forgotten, and motioned them closer. This was far too grave a situation to complicate with petty disagreements; and whoever might be out there, she doubted they were friendly. Why wouldn't they call out otherwise?
"Yeah, I hear 'em." The winged mare released a pent-up breath as she whispered her response to the raider, the tight worried lines around her eyes saying it all.

Checkpoint 1: Night is falling fast and the snow is only worsening. As the conversation turns to considering the options- you hear snatches of words, of voices, on the wind that come and go, making it impossible to judge how close they may be. Do you investigate? Rumors of Cultists have been circulating the mountain, and this snow marks the Night of Bloodletting... And you have two mares in your party.

Fox | War-Forged | Scout | 237 words
Fox bristled at Kell's snarling words. Her eyes narrowed. "I'm just trying to be rational, you know. We could die out here." More, less polite words churned on her tongue, but she kept them to herself. She didn't have the energy to argue, so she let Kell's accusations rolled off her skin. She doesn't know me.
But there was more to worry about. Others were nearby.
And suddenly, like a jolt of lightning, her father's words from earlier flashed into her mind. Bloodletting. Cultists. Bride. Sacrifice. She gasped- she'd forgotten the pagan ritual of the first snow and the crazed rogues who hungered for death. Nolk had warned her to be careful, to travel with a stallion tonight.
Shaky, she took steps in the direction of the voices, not bothering to tell the other two what she was doing. She probably looked in a daze, but she didn't care. She had to know.
She squinted her eyes, neck leaning forward in the bitter wind.
There.
A few rolling hillsides below, in between gusts of wind and snow, bodies walked together in the moonlight, quiet as mice except for the voices. They were unfamiliar dialects, spoken with a slight accent unknown to Onea. She sniffed the wind, now cycling in her direction- the slight odor they carried certainly didn't smell like Oneans either. They smelled like the moist lowlands and deciduous forests of southern Hireath.
She turned to Kell and Muiris. "Vagabonds. Cultists. It's the Night of Bloodletting." Her voice shook. Blood drained from her face. She looked at Kell. "We're in danger."

Muiris - War-Forged Raider -
The stallions ears laid back against his neck as the voices became more distinct, liquid forms before them floating throughout the storm. He took hesitant steps after the small mare, his head cocking and eyes narrowing as he stared intensely over her back through the whirlwind of snow. He stopped, but the mare kept advancing. "Fox.." He called out softly, meaning for it to be louder, but he was in doubt she had even heard him. His eyes widened ever so slightly- the tales his mother told that he had always thought were just stories. The cultist. The bloodletting. Killing, hunting, innocent mares. And he happened to be stuck with two of them. His ears flattened, his cold eyes now set with determination at Fox's next words. No, they were not in danger. He wouldnt allow them to be. He snorted sharply into the cold wind, swiveling on his spiked front hooves and shooting narrowed looks at both mares. The wind carried his bundles hair softly on its otherwise vicious bursts.
"Stay close. Stay quiet. Lets hope they are just as lost as we are." He said quietly, his head dipping down in hopes his own body mass would block his deep voice from traveling. Despite him seeming calm, the stallion's heart was racing in his chest, threatening to pop right out and bounce away. His lungs felt constricted, and it wasnt just from the cold. He was scared, but he wouldnt admit it. He couldnt admit it, or that would mean giving up. Slowly, he glanced back at the dark forms in the snow. They had stopped, their conversing getting louder and then suddenly falling silent. Muiris bit his lip and tipped his head in the direction away from them, hoping the two would get the hint that it was time to move.
Slow, heavy steps carried him through the thick snow as he tried to walk as carefully as possible. He even found himself accidentally holding his breath, letting it out slowly between gritted teeth. One dark ear stayed posted on the maybe-cultists, the other pointed at his team mates. If they played this out right, they would be able to get away without a conflict at all. What he didnt know, though, is that one of the strangers in the storm had separated from the group, straggling behind the lost trio. His bright yellow eyes shined in the darkness of the storm, a sinister smile taking part on his lips.

Kell snorted. White clouds of steam escaped her nostrils, and she didn't have to try very hard to pretend she was a dragon. She amused herself for a brief moment pretending that she was one of them, but her humor quickly soured when she remembered one very important difference between the two of them: they could breathe fire, and she could not. They could keep themselves warm, and she could not. Thus her good mood was broken.
So it was with undue venom that she replied to Fox, hissing, "We could die any time. If it's tonight, so be it. But if we keep going, it won't be." She wasn't totally sure about the second part being true, but better not to voice her doubts aloud; it would undermine her argument, and Kell disliked being undermined. You know, I should really shut up, the grey mare decided.
Kell's ears flickered in uncertainty for the first time when her chestnut companion mentioned the Night of Bloodletting; she had completely forgotten about that hellish ritual. But after a few moments of worriness (she would never admit it was fear), her ears returned determinedly to their place, pinned against her head. "Well, I don't know about you, but I don't plan on letting a goddamn Cultist kill me for some creepy ritual, and I ain't about to let that happen to anyone else either," she whispered.
Her heart leaped into her throat as she heard a crunch of a hoof in snow. A crunch that didn't belong to any of their hooves. A crunch from someone who was trying to be quiet. She spun around faster than she would have thought possible, teeth bared, shaking the snow off of her wings and flaring them instinctively. She was met with a pair of yellow eyes.
"Who the bloody hell are you?" she growled, scraping a hoof against the snow.

Fox | War-Forged | Scout | 271 words
It was a good strategy. In hindsight, when this night was all over and she had time to ponder, she'd decide the cultists were smart after all. Make the little herd think they were spying on the Vagabonds, that they had the high ground, while one was spying on them. Pretty clever. At Kell's snarl, Fox whipped her head around. She couldn't tell what color the horse was, but it was medium-sized and big-boned. The snow flurries made it look ethereal, like a ghost moving through water. Moonlight bounced off its yellow eyes. Hard eyes, like those of a doll. Or a dead animal. They terrified her. Its voice grazed her mind like teeth on granite. Male, it had to be. It was talking to Kell. "Oh, just a traveler." The voice was slow but confident. Eerily confident. Traveler, my ass. She knew what he was. She could suddenly almost feel her mortality, tangible, like a leopard on her back. And how inconvenient death could be. Unconsciously, she started backing away. "You might start running, my dears. But that would be futile." Suddenly the stranger let out a war-cry that made the hair on Fox's back stand up. It sounded like a wolf call from hell. Replies cried back from across the hilltops, from the herd she'd seen earlier. Fox's blood ran cold. She was no warrior. Not for these bloodthirsty corpses. The yellow eyes came back to theirs. "Futile," he repeated. "We will find you." He released another war-cry, and the responses were illogically closer this time. They were moving fast. "Muiris!" Fox hissed, barely audibly. "What do we do?!"

Muiris - War-Forged Raider -
The stallion whipped around at the sound of Kell's voice, his patience running thin. He had told them to be quiet, and speaking was quite the opposite of that. Why did they feel the need to go again pretty much everything he said? What was the point in him trying to lead them, to safety, if they wouldnt listen to him? If he had it in him, he would have just left them to fend for themselves by now, but he knew he would never be able to do that. Not in good conscious, anyways. But his breath caught in his throat as the scent of another being crossed his muzzle before he was even able to see them. His gaze landed on gleaming yellow eyes, just as the stranger started to speak. Muiris' blood ran cold, blood draining from his face at the realization of who has before them. He opened his mouth to speak, but found he had no words to give. He had training to fight, to protect himself, as other Raiders hardly needed help. How was he supposed to keep the two scouts on his team out of danger if he didnt even know if he could protect himself? His mind spun, his eyes narrowing and ears staying fixated on the pretense of the other. His skin twitched at the howls and hoots from the stranger's buddies, the wind and intense snow throwing off their location. As far as Muiris knew, they could be right behind them and they wouldnt even know it.
His ears flicked toward Fox, his name being called pulling him back to reality and reminding him that he would actually have to act. He stared at her in silence for several moments, his ice-cold breath caught in his lungs. A small, sudden smile soon started creeping across his lips, his dark brown orbs twinkling as if he was enjoying himself. Which he was. This was a test. A test of his strength and leadership- both of what needed work, but there was never a time like the present. And boy, did he have an idea. His gaze shifted back behind them, the more treacherous part of the mountain looming over them.
Quickly, the roaned stallion whipped around on his hooves, rearing up and slamming two spiked horse shoes into the ground only a few feet away from the dark, yellow-eyed stranger, sending chunks of snow flailing in all sorts of directions. Oh yes, yes this would be fun. "Head up!" He shouted, his teeth baring together as the stranger stallion jolted back a few steps to get away from Muiris' snapping teeth. Muiris didnt care that they heard where they were going- they would find out rather quickly anyways. But what he did know, though, is that the three of them had the advantage. They were War-Forged. They lived in this bullshit weather. Vagabonds? They werent as used to the dangerous climbs in a storm such as this.

And here Kell found herself in a dilemma.
She was faced with a cultist, who clearly showed intent to harm her and/or Fox. There were possibly - no, there were probably - more cultists out there with similar intents. Muiris was attacking the yellow-eyed one, and keeping him at bay, but she did not know how long that would last for.
There was Fox to worry about, who was younger than Kell herself, and needed protection from the cultists. While she didn't doubt that any horse could fight like a fiend when faced with certain death, every horse had their limits, and she had a feeling that Fox would reach hers sooner than Kell would.
She would also have to keep the weather in mind. They were in the middle of a gods-be-damned blizzard, and there was a chance that they could die. While the three of them were somewhat more accustomed to the frigid temperatures than the Vagabonds, hypothermia was still a very real possibility.
And on top of that, there were the Seroran delegates to remember. If those thin-coated stick-legged horses were still alive, they would soon not be; they were far less suited for this weather than the Vagabonds or the War-Forged themselves. Kell considered that portion of their mission a failure; the only thing that mattered now was their survival.
With that in mind, she carefully considered her options. She could a) fight with Muiris, b) flee with Fox, or c) flee/fly alone. She immediately discounted c) as an option; it would be both stupid and suicidal. It was down to her instincts: fight or flight.
After hesitating for a few moments, wishing desperately that she could fight, she glanced towards Fox and clipped the other mare with her wing to get her attention. "Run!" Kell shouted, wasting no time in kicking up her heels and lurching into a gallop. She raced away, breath steaming from her nostrils, and tried to convince herself that what she had done was right. That she'd saved her life and Fox's, and Muiris could handle himself.
She was, however, unable to outrun the small voice in her head that breathed to her that she was a coward.

Fox | War-Forged | Scout | 337 words Fight or flight. She could hear her heartbeat roaring in her ears. Fight or flight.Muiris chose. He chose to turn wild like an animal and taunt the stranger. She couldn't move. Fight or-
Her paralysis was interrupted by a cold leathery brush on her shoulder. The bat wing, it touched her. She turned, stone-faced in fear. Kell was bounding into the forest, wings flying behind her & snow churning behind her feet. In a flash she was gone from sight into the night-blanketed woods. The dragon mare was beckoning her, asking her to join? Or doing so out of survival? Either way the cold touch had a warm connotation. Let's survive together. So Fox chose. She brushed her tail to Muiris's flank to get his attention. They locked eyes. Fox nodded toward and lurched into the woods. She hoped her face told him what her voice couldn't. Come when you can. Be safe. We'll all survive together. She kept her ears forward, galloping at top speed through the frozen trees and twigs, snapping every branch and vine on the way. Moonlight bounced on the snow and ice. At least the blizzard was ceasing- the slowing snowfall, at least temporarily, gave them better vision. Soon Kell's rump came into view and she followed the gray mare. Blood roared in her ears again, terror moving her legs. She prayed they'd miss any patches of ice. Was this survival mode? This was a new fear, a threat Fox had never faced before. She knew death, knew it too well. But never her own. She ran for what seemed like forever, and then kept going until her legs burned with pain. Kell seemed to be in better shape, or was using her wings as an aerodynamic advantage. For the first time, Fox envied her. When Kell started to slow, Fox did too, panting. Were they safe yet? They hadn't exchanged a word the whole run. Fox looked over her shoulder, squinting for Muiris, willing him to come out of the shadows.

Muiris - War-Forged Raider -
The stallion's skin pricked as the sabino mare pulled his attention away from the cultist for just long enough for them to lock eyes. His gaze was now hard, cold, full of determination.. and a spark of excitement. He could see the message in her eyes, but his was clouded with bloodlust. He gave he a snort and a sharp dip of his head, catching a glimpse of Kell as she darted away first. Good, for once they were listening to him.
With a loud roar of a battle cry erupting from his lungs, the bay roan stallion whipped around on his hooves and lunged at the stranger cultist, his eyes flashing with mixed emotions of anger and madness. His lips curled back in a snarl, sharp teeth aimed right for the dark stallion's throat. The cultist was taunting him, dogging his attack and aiming a kick toward Muiris' chest. Blood rushed to the stallion's head, his ears seeming to throb as he pushed out the distractions of the world around him. He didnt even hear what the cultist was screaming, but out of the corner of his eye, he noticed a smaller group running out to follow the mares. Muiris came to a pause, digging his spiked hooves into the ground and lowering his head, angered puffs of steam circulating his muzzle like a bull facing a fighter. His eyes drew narrow, his pupils dilating into a dagger-like glare as he stared down the other stallion- who now he assumed was the leader of the small group. Kill the leader, kill their direction.
Another fit of rage and adrenaline coursed through his veins, both stallions lunging at each other at the same time. The cultist sunk his well-aimed teeth into Muiris' shoulder, causing an angered shout of pain from the draft. Pain shot through his shoulder, blood dripped down his roaned coat. Murius used the momentum to throw his weight into the smaller stallion, whipping his head around and grabbing him by the base of his neck. His teeth sank into the thick flesh of the darker stallion, ripping him off his back and slamming him into the blanket of snow beneath their hooves. The other stallion squirmed on his back, his hooves flailing wildly without direction as he tried to scramble to his feet to attack once more, but Muiris had had enough. The large stallion slammed both hooves onto either side of his head, the ground shaking under his vicious weight. "Call them off!" He roared, his teeth only an inch away from the offenders muzzle. His ears pinned to his neck when a smile erupted from the cultist's lips, his head leaning closer against Muiris' cheek. Hail Digend, he whispered, his tone dripping with venom and threat. His smile widened, the peace on his features causing anger to boil Muiris' blood. He would have to take this into his own hooves.. quite literally. He slammed his hooves into dark creature's head, his spiked horseshoes easily cracking his skull on contact. Warm, sticky blood spattered up the roan's legs, dabbled against his chest and neck, but he wasnt going to stop until the damn cultist was putty under his hooves.
Muiris paused, an eerie silence falling between the storm. The smell of blood tickled his nostrils, warmed his insides. He looked down at the messy corpse below him, a smile cracking his lips. "Hail no one, dumbass..." He chuckled, hopping over the body and turning to look in the direction the mares and other cultists had gone. They were all out of sight, but he could still see glimpses of their tracks. Muiris took a deep breath and lept in their direction, his hooves thundering against the ground as he took off as fast as possible in their direction. One down, several more to go. Hopefully he wasnt too far behind.

Her breath grew ragged, each gasp sending icy fingers into her lungs.
Don't let them catch you. Don't let them catch Fox. If they catch you, you'll die. If you run out of breath, you'll die. If you trip and fall, you'll die. If you lag behind, you'll die. And Kell did not want to die, not tonight. So she kept running.
Her legs felt as though they were full of liquid fire.
There were more of them. She sensed them. They were running after her and Fox. They were to be the newest victims in the bloodthirsty ritual. They were to be brides. The thought thoroughly repulsed her, and she shook it away. Kell was no one's bride.
Her hooves were so sluggish that she missed a step, and nearly tumbled into the snow before she was able to catch herself.
It was a minor mistake, but serious enough that it shook Kell to her senses. She could not continue this way; if she did she would trip again, and her reflexes would not be so kind this time. So she slowed to a stop, snorting and blowing from the exertion, and turned to face their pursuers.
Two that she saw. They too were worn down by the exertion, standing on shaky hooves, but the frenzied glints in their eyes told the mare all that she needed to know. Their determination was strength enough, and they would fight until they could no longer stand. It was possible that she could take on both of them alone, but chances of survival would be greatly increased with a partner. She hoped Fox would join in the fight.
One came at her from the front, and the other circled around to attack her from the back. Kell allowed herself a grin. This would keep the cold at bay, if the previous running hadn't. And if she lost herself to the bloodlust, well... who could blame her? It was self-defense, after all.
The one behind her attacked first, lunging in to try and clamp his teeth on her hindquarters. She kicked out with both legs and felt a satisfying resistance as her left hoof connected with him, but the angle was wrong and the resulting cut was too shallow to do much more than enrage him. Damn.
Barely a moment later, the second one made his move. Sidestepping her, he dropped his head and came at her flank with his horn. Kell swung her hind end around to present less of a target, and snaked her head forwards. He gave a satisfying snarl of pain when she clamped her teeth down, but still managed to score her along the side with his horn.
The second cultist was coming back for another pass, and Kell realized that her approach wasn't working. So she hopped backwards a few times. Now they were both in front of her, and she stood a fighting chance. Fighting chance? Appropriate, she thought with a chuckle.

Checkpoint 2: A sudden pause in the screaming wind, if not the fighting, but it's enough of a pause that you hear... shouts? The Serorans! They're near you, and they're under attack from the Cultist's Gyrtrash familiars! Head over to Serora Plot 005: Mountain's Misgivings, and help them- if you can!
