Malik | Talori | Tenderfoot A striped form darted through the thick brush surrounding the outskirts of the grand city of Inaria, dashing away into the shadows of the foliage where his dark pelt was well camouflaged from prying eyes who might be tempted to keep him tethered to the landscaped grounds of the palace. The sun was just high enough in the sky to barely see it over the horizon, and it created an array of different pinks and light blues as it rose slowly higher into the sky. The early morning was the perfect time to sneak away from the watchful eyes of the servants and other adults meandering through the halls later in the day, and it meant that he had the entire day to explore the strange place that was his home.
Malik trotted through the jungle occasionally stopping to investigate an interesting plant or rock or bug. There was so much to see and figure out, and he felt as though he had only barely scraped the surface of cool places hiding in the dense forest that awaited his discovery. 'I bet there's some really awesome underwater stuff that I can find!' Sedo definitely didn't have as much water that a hippocampus like himself could enjoy. It wasn't as if he didn't have fun adventuring around Sedo, but the dry, arid climate had never really felt like home, and it always ended up leaving him feeling dried out and dehydrated. While he had just arrived here and hadn't had much time to venture out on his own, he'd been told there were lots of places to go and things to see. He'd even been told that Aquore had an underwater city! How cool is that?!
Distracted by his whirling thoughts, Malik nearly missed the colorful flash of movement up ahead, causing him to stop dead in his tracks. Maybe it was some kind of tropical bird or one of those raptors that one of the palace kids had warned him about. Well, he certainly wasn't going to let it get away!
Bound and determined to catch up with whatever had caught his eye, Malik charged through the brush at top speed, narrowly dodging trees and thorn-covered bushes.

It'd felt like forever since Agnes was allowed to run freely in the wilderness without the thought of being grounded by her father, lingering over her head. She stretched out her bright wings, ruffling them in the soft sunlight. The soft chill of the morning air meant that she felt invigorated, ready for whatever was out there today.
She bounded forwards, energy springing her legs to life as they pushed her from the ground. They flailed out behind her in a lanky mess of excitement and hops. Of course, flapping her wings was part of the joy too! She fluttered them wildly, her flying lessons with her father were less than fruitful but it didn't bother her! Swimming was much better ANYWAY. Her body caused the leaves of the tropical brush to smack and whip, whistling against the sudden impact. It didn't hurt, she was too fast for that! The leaves she did break though from impact, left small green streaks on her mottled fur. Agnes knew of a small stream running just outside Inaria, there was a few waterfalls and there were shells in the pool that maybe she could even play with. Throwing them in and out of the stream seemed like the best idea so far.
She hated playing with other kids. They were always so boring and immature. She was far more mature than anyone else! Even the adults were impressed by her behaviour! Though her father always, always! Tried to tell her otherwise. She was rude and a brat. Pft. No, she was intelligent and amazing. She didn't have time for dumb conversations! Reaching the edge of the stream, she pounced from the rocks into the water with a cheer. Having fun by yourself was better than having no fun at all.

Malik | Talori | Tenderfoot Malik dashed wildly through the brush. Large leaves smacked against him and caused his already disheveled hair to tangle even more. There was no way he was going to let this colorful whatever-it-was get away from him! He ran like the wind trying to keep up, but it was beginning to seem as though he was not going to catch up. 'Wow, it's really fast! Maybe it is a raptor!' The young colt thought, skidded to a stop and taking deep, gulping breathes.
Darn! He hadn't been fast enough! His eyes studied the forest around him, not seeing any sign of the colorful flashes he had seen before. He'd really hoped that he was going to be able to catch it and see what it was. Maybe he'd be able to brag about it and show off whatever it was to the other kids here. Maybe they'd even be jealous and want to come on adventures with him to see what other awesome stuff he could find! That was certainly the hardest part about moving to this new place. Malik didn't have any friends here, and everyone he talked to didn't really act like they wanted to be friends. They acted all weird and spoke strangely and used words that he imagined his tutor would teach him when lecturing about being respectful. Hopefully all Talorians weren't like that.
After finally catching his breathe, Malik saw the vegetation in front of him rustled wildly, and before whatever was there could get away, Malik jumped through the bushes in front of him into a small clearing where he nearly collided with the brightly colored perpetrator he had been chasing.
The hippocampus stopped suddenly, nearly causing him to face-plant from his momentum. He stared for a moment, not really believing what was standing in front of him. It wasn't a bird or a raptor. It was another horse! A smirk pulled up the corners of his lips, making the rigid fins on his face move slightly. "You're really fast! I saw something really colorful running up ahead of me and tried chasing after it, but I thought it had gotten away. I guess it was you this whole time." Malik rambled out, excitement over unexpectedly finding another foal his age in the wilderness clearly showed itself.
"My name's Malik. What's yours?"

"Crap!"
Agnes yelled in surprise, her fun splashing about in the cool water cut short. She struggled to whip round fast enough with the water pushing against her. She stared at the foal who was looking with a smirk. What was that about? She squinted in suspicion, twisting her ears back and staring coldly at the colt.
"Well duh, I'm fast!" She grinned smugly, her face scrunching up into a confident, cocky happiness. She flapped her wings as hard as she could, splashing the surface of the water with loud slaps as droplets of water rolled off the tips of her feathers. Within the droplets of the water, the reflection of her beautiful Macaw wings could be seen creating a rainbow of water. Agnes chuckled and bounded towards Malik, trying to get out as quickly as she could as she squared up to him. "Malik huh? I'm Agnes. You're not allowed to call me that though. I don't know who you are Malik and all I know is you could be some ass." She bit her tongue in a display of rudeness and huffed her forelock from her face.
"So Malik, you gonna tell me who you are? Why were you chasing colourful things, you hit your head as a baby? Your momma kick it or something?" Her voice carried a certain excitable edge to it. Her tail was wagging away like a dog's. She hadn't met a hippocampus with branches sticking out their face before, so Malik was weird looking.

Malik | Talori | Tenderfoot Malik chuckled as she cursed and spun around in the shallow water that she stood in. A kid who cursed? How cool was that? She must be someone fun!
He watched as she flapped her wings against the water, splashing water around her. The little stream looked relaxing and refreshing after running around all morning, and despite having lived in Sedo for the past few months and was accustomed to heat, the humidity of this tropical paradise still got to him at times.
He cocked a brow at her confident remark, returning her smug grin with one of his own. No one had ever talked to him like that! Everyone either was too nerdy or too quiet to ever talk to him like this horse was talking to him right now. Her cocky behavior and rude remarks didn't seem to have any affect on him, and instead of shrinking away from her brashness like most horses probably did, Malik found himself wanting to stick around.
As the young foal rose out of the water and stood in front of him, Malik straightened up, his sonar-disk shaped ears protruding forward as his long tail fins swayed slightly behind him. "And for all I know, you could be one too! Or some wild kid living in the bushes by herself." He said with a snort, knowing enough about Talori customs to know her display was meant to be rude and disrespectful.
"Pffffft. I didn't hit my head as a baby. I thought you were a bird or a raptor or something, so I chased after you to see if it was something really cool." Malik explained, rolling his eyes. "And I'm not ass. I come from the palace, but I just moved here from Sedo which is where my dad sent my mom before the fighting started here." One of his large ears tilted to the side, listening to the jungle around them for a split second before swiveling back toward Agnes.
"So Agnes-but-I'm-not-allowed-to-call-you-that, who are you? Are you some kid whose parents abandoned you in the jungle and you live here now?" Malik asked curiously but without losing his confident stance.

She raised a brow, pursing her lips in thought. "I'm not a bird. I'm a pegasus. You've heard of them right? After all, Cascade likes to shun the winged ones. And you got her blessing with them fins." Agnes nodded knowingly, flicking her ears forwards. "You got the cool part right though. That- I definitely am."
She took a few more steps towards him, trying to push him back with her very -small- presence. "Come from the palace? Like a servant or something? Your face looks dumb enough so maybe you are the son of one! Hah! But woah, from the desert? Did you not dry out?" She snorted, standing on her toes as much as she could to raise herself to his height. Getting a closer look at him, he was a little bit too clean and neat to be a servant. His forelock was scruffy but everything else looked fairly...Clean. Huh. She got distracted by his large ears, watching the circular things move with fascination. Her's were big too! Just pointy! Her face dropped and she stuck her tongue in her cheek. Live in the jungle!? It was fun but not THAT fun!
"My parents did't abandon me. My momma loves me and she's a pirate! ...I think. And then I have my dad, he's uhm... Well, he's in trouble but he deserved it because he's dumb too and really ugly. His eyes are always dark and dull." Agnes tossed her head with a smirk. "I don't know how he managed to be my dad. I'm so beautiful in comparison." She clicked her tongue with a wink.

Malik | Talori | Tenderfoot Malik's brows furrowed slightly. "Of course I've heard of a pegasus. My sister's friend is one, and Sedo is full of pegasi." He said and twisted of his mouth in thought. Did she think he was dumb or something? Despite her insults, he couldn't keep the smile that crept onto his face when she said that she wasn't a bird but was definitely cool. Her sly, cocky attitude was strangely appealing and humorous to him for some reason. Maybe because this was the way that he wanted to act and talk with his friends, but at the palace, he'd surely get a slap in the butt for behaving this way.
He looked down at Agnes as the little filly moved closer to him, staring up at him with a scrutinizing gaze. Malik held his ground though, standing over the shorter foal and staring down at her with a curious expression. She sure was an odd one. "Pffft. I'm not a servant's kid, and my face isn't dumb! My dad is- was Emperor Hawkeye and my mom was one of his wives." Malik offered the information reluctantly, knowing how weird people got after hearing who his parents were. Not that he thought it mattered. They were just his parents. It didn't change who he was or how he acted... most of the time anyways.
A frown formed on his face as she rose up on her toes, getting inches away from his face to study him closer as if he were some rare kind of bug or plant. "Sedo was really dry. I had to be careful not to stay out in the midday sun for too long without being able to get into water or the sun burned my fins." The striped colt explained, flicking his long fins.
His eyes widened in surprise to her answer. "Your mom's a pirate! That's so cool!" He said, unable to hide his excitement. "Your dad does sound pretty lame." He guessed that she took more after her mother's pirate spirit than whatever her dad was.
"So, now that you know who I am, and I know who you are, what do you want to do? We could explore, or we could go our separate ways. It's up to you." Malik stared down at the pegasus, wondering what would be her decision. Most of the time, he could guess what someone would generally do or say, but with her, Malik had absolutely no idea what would come out of her mouth next.

"Then it's hard to understand how you mistook me otherwise!" She chirped, fluttering her wings. With how close she was, she took the chance to shake out her coat like a dog. Hoping to get the prince just a little bit wet.
"So your dad was the Emperor huh? Didn't he die?" She asked curiously, swinging one long ear back in a little attempt to be...'polite'. Death was a weird concept and she definitely didn't know how to react about it. So instead, she barged into Malik's chest. "Well just cause you're a prince- Don't expect special treatment. Your face is, definitely, still dumb. Yeah..." She stepped back with a cocky grin, looking at his face. "Definitely dumb." Agnes reared up on her back legs and stuck her tongue out once again.
She listened to him speak about Sedo. It sounded awful. Dry? Water not readily available like this stream behind her? Yuck! Agnes rolled her eyes. "Sounds awful. I hope I never go there, I'd rather drown!" At Malik's excitement about her mother, she raised a brow and rolled with it. "Yeah!" She lifted one foreleg. "She's awesome and she'd kick anyone's butt if they looked at her funny!" It began to dawn on her though... She hadn't seen her in a year. A brief wave of sadness washed over her and she scrunched up her face. Hmph. "Yeah my dad is really lame..." She tossed her head and whipped Malik with her tail as she turned away from him.
"Well Princey, we've got stuff to explore- If you feel like dirtying up your hooves." She looked back over her shoulder with a smirk.

Malik | Talori | Tenderfoot Malik rolled his eyes at her comment. Of course if he had seen more than just her wings in the dense brush, he would have noticed that she was a pegasus not a bird or raptor! "I'm still getting used to looking through all of these bushes and trees. There's no jungles in Sedo." Malik explained with a frown. "There's really cool dunes that you can surf down though and awesome caves to explore! It's just really different than this place." He said just at Agnes shook out her coat and sprayed water onto him, causing a grin to widen on his face.
His ears twitched at her question, unsure how he was supposed to feel. Sure his dad was dead and so was his mom, but he had never really spent much time with his dad enough to feel anything special about him. "Yeah, he died before I moved here." Malik said, not knowing the exact details of his father's demise. "But it's whatever. I didn't really know-" He was cut off when the little filly barged into his chest, making him take a step back so that he didn't fall on his butt in the mud. A playful smirk appeared on his face as he pushed her back, not caring if he wasn't as careful as he had to be rough-housing with his twin.
"Good! I don't want to be treated differently." Malik said with a defiant snort. Stopping his eyes from rolling once more when she said his face was definitely dumb. "Whatever, feather-brains." He said in a mocking tone, sticking his tongue out at her.
The colt nodded his head. "Parts of it was really gross. Deserts are not super fun that's for sure." He said, wondering if he would ever have to go back to the dry, arid climate of Sedo. Maybe to visit Pearl when she lived over there someday, but hopefully, his next visit wouldn't be for awhile.
Malik was lost in his imagination of what it would be like if one of his parents were a pirate. How awesome would that be! They'd have all sorts of cool stories to tell and gold and weapons that they could show him! Being whipped in the face with the tuft of her tail woke Malik from his daydream, and he scrunched his face up momentarily before he got the invitation he had been waiting for.
A crooked smirk painted itself across his face. "I'm always up for adventure." Malik said and didn't waste time before trotting to catch up to her before he was left behind, splashing water with his hooves on his way to walk beside her. "So where are we headed?"

Trying to imagine a world without foliage was a difficult concept for the little filly. She flicked her tail back and forth, scrunching up her nose in her many attempts to imagine sand dunes and caves. Caves that you could explore…? Agnes thought to herself briefly about her own expedition into a cave...Nah. She may be small but those small tight places would be the scariest- Well not scariest but…. She didn’t want to think about it. “Well this place seems like it’s the best place, just hearing you talking about...Dunes to slide down? We probably have some on the beach…. Maybe.” Agnes shrugged, watching the colt opposite her.
He admitted to not wanting to be treated differently? HAH! “Oh yeah? Likely story buddy. You’re a… Well you don’t live in a house but that big place, I bet you’d cry if you had to stay in a house like mine!” Agnes grinned and bit at the air in his direction as he stuck his tongue out back at her. She began to trot up stream, following the winding trail of water away from the little pool that she first dove into as Malik followed alongside.
“Well first things first, we’re going to follow this water.” She said matter of factly, her trot very bouncy. “And then when we find even more water, you’re going to jump in it. And since you’re a fish, You can take a look at the bottom and see if there’s any treasure! But if you do find it, you have to give it to me. Since you have all the treasure in Aquore.” She added quickly, bounding head and spreading out her wings to help with her balance over the pebbled shore of the stream. Agnes kicked some stones here and there, stumbling every now and then but not at all being phased by the possibility of embarrassing herself. She was GREAT at walking on these. Pft. Whatever.
