The morning was cool, the sun having rose into the sky. A soft breeze snaked its way through the buildings of Inaria, tickling wind chimes and rustling curtains on open windows. Many were just getting a start to their day, though Menoetius and the other Guardians had begun their day several hours before. Meno was typically one who took the night shift, though today, he had been asked to cover the day shift for another. He was exhausted, his eyes squinting against the rising sun. He was used to being out under the stars and the moon, not the sunshine.
He took to patrolling the streets, his hard gaze and tight lips an obvious sign that he was to be left alone. Luckily, most knew the aged stallion was not one for small talk or pleasantries. He was here to work, not to get distracted by talk of the weather or health. His heart was still heavy from the death of his son and the emperor in the past short months. Although it had been agreed that the prejudice against pegasi was to be lifted, he still found himself glaring harder at the winged folk when they passed. They had been the cause of all this, after all. Their precious Flight members.. Even if they had not sided with the terrorists, Menoetius didnt trust them as far as he could throw them.
Just as he turned a corner into the center of town, his hooves tapping against the cobblestone street, a sudden burst of light caused him to stumble. His eyes burned as he tore his gaze away, feeling warmth run against his chest and legs. Just as soon as it began, however, it had stopped... and laying in the middle of the street was... a kirin?
Whipping out his glaive from its place against his side, Menoetius swung it before him as he approached slowly. Other citizens seemed curious, a small crowd gathering behind him as he called for everyone to keep back. His gaze was fixated upon the scaled beast, his eyes narrowed as he called out, "Dont move!" his weapon pointed at her skull.

A flash of light, blinding, but short lived, burst in the center of town and there she was. Nashira opened her eyes and stared wild-eyed at the figures that loomed. Even before the appearance of the glaive wielding guardian a scream had ripped itself free of her throat, more following in quick succession. It was a sound of pure terror and the way the kirin scrambled against the cobblestone, but her hooves found no purchase and she merely scrambled around. Sparks leapt off her hooves, dancing across the stones before blinking out of existence. Her panicked rolling only stopped as she found the weapon pointed at her skull, though even then it took her a moment to register. Tears fell from her eyes as she at last focused in on all the creatures that surrounded her. What were they? Covered in scales and fleshy, flappy things, but they weren’t like her… were they? She wasn’t sure… what was she even? Her head was heavy with something, and she had seen the glittering of rainbow scales, but she couldn’t remember. It was the lack of memories that made the event so truly terrifying, she couldn’t remember anything. Tears brimmed her eyes as she stared up at the strange creature who pointed the weapon at her skull and yelled. His expression was angry, eyes narrowed, and she couldn’t figure out why. What had she done? Why was he mad? “Please, don’t hurt me…” Nashira pleaded up at the stranger, sparks still flickering with her panic.

He held his weapon steady as he watched the creature before him flail about, finally settling her gaze upon him. Fear suddenly washed over her features, tears dripping down her cheeks. This was no play to try to soften the Guardian's heart, as many of those who were guilty tried. No, Menoetius could feel the terror she emitted, and felt his own nerves rising. A scared creature could often be a dangerous creature, so he had to plan his next move carefully.
She pleaded for her safety and slowly, the Guardian lowered his pointed weapon, holding it to the side as a warning to the growing crowd to stand back and keep out of his space. He studied the kirin before speaking again, meticulously picking over every single bit of her appearance, right down to her curved antlers and shimmering rainbow scales. Her coat was light, her build dainty. He noticed the sparks forming from the movement of her hooves against stone, his ears pricking forward momentarily in curiosity. Antler, scales, unicorn tail.. And she was blessed..
"Kirin." He heard the whispers ping ponging through the crowd behind him, their tones nervous and uneasy. Kirins were supposed to be dead. Extinct. Erased. Nothing but a fairy tale, yet.. here one was, laying in front of him, begging for her life.
Turning to his audience, he laid his ears against his neck and pressed toward them. "Everyone, scatter!" He shouted. He didnt need prying eyes as he tried to decide how to handle the situation at hoof. The crowd dispersed, some lingering long than others, and some getting away as quickly as they could. As soon as the last straggler took to their own business, the Guardian turned back to the kirin, slowly placing his weapon on the ground.
"I'm not going to hurt you." He said, his gruff voice as soft as he could muster. He had a million questions, and he was impatient in wanting answers, but he would have to go slow.. He didnt want to terrify her any more than he already had.
"Can you stand?" He took a step closer, offering help if she needed it. Perhaps if they could get out of the middle of the street, it wouldnt be so overwhelming.

She watched carefully as he lowered the pointed weapon, eyes dilating as light shimmered off the blade. He’d moved it to the side, placing it like a barrier between her and the growing crowd of equally fleshy finned equines. Slitted eyes stared up at him as tears continued to dampen her cheeks and drip from her chin in the most pitiful of ways. A scared beast she was indeed and he was wise to be wary as sparks continued to dance from her hooves from the pure panic and adrenaline that coursed like fire through her veins. They weren’t harmful, mildly annoying at best, as her blessing seemed weakened from the long emptiness of wherever she was before. Try as she might, there would be no electrical storm, no disabling shocks, only sparks for now.
Her curled ears perked forward and strained to hear, to understand the words as they were passed among the gathering, again and again, Kirin, echoed by voice after voice. Was that what she was? What was that? Why did they speak in such hushed tones? The questions started to build, her own inability to answer overwhelming her senses, causing still more tears to fall. The shout made her jump visible, cloven hooves skittering across the stone as she was once more sent scrambling. Nashira stopped as the bodies began to depart and the weapon was placed on the ground, eyeing the approaching figure with the same look of a trapped animal.
His gruff voice was of little comfort, despite the obvious effort to soften it from before. She flinched with each word, and, as the strange fleshy beast took a step forward, she panicked. Nashira scrambled, hooves finding purchase on the cobblestone, if only briefly, somehow managing to pull her lithe frame upwards. She made a mad dash with no idea where she was going or how far, her only instinct screaming that she needed to get away and get away fast. That fight or flight instinct had been triggered and, unfortunately, flight seemed her best option… She would rocket across the stones, but, her hurry and the uneven surface made for tough running. Whether he gave chase or not, she wouldn’t make it far, a hoof catching on an uneven stone, ankle twisting, and her body came crashing hard to the ground.
With her ankle twisted, there would be no more running, instead she simply sat and sobbed, a gross awful sound of someone utterly unsure, utterly defeated. It was quite unladylike… and not at all pretty to look at. “Please,” She managed between those awful noises, “Don’t hurt me, I’m sorry.”

He noticed her flinching with his words, causing him to pause in his approach. However, panic had already set in. The kirin before him scrambled to her hooves, finally finding her legs before shooting off across the cobblestone. At first, Menoetius found himself frozen, his brow arched as he watched the awkward mare stumble across the road. He had a feeling she wasnt going to go very far.. he could tell from her uneven gait that she wasnt going to last long on those cloven hooves of hers.
Swiping his weapon off the ground, he tucked it back to his side, and casually jogged after her. He winched as her hoof found an uneven stone, sending her into the ground in a heap, her scales clacking against cobblestone. A sigh left his lips as he slowed, once again leaving his glaive behind as he approached again.
This time, her sobs were stronger. He wondered if she could even see behind the tears that flooded her eye. She begged for him not to hurt her, which caused irritation to rise in his throat. He had already said he wasnt going to, and the guardian was not known for being a very patient man. It took all his willpower to keep himself from simply knocking her out so the crying would stop.
Taking in a deep breath and working his jaw, he shifted his attention to her ankle and drew closer to it, deciding that there really was nothing she could do to him even if she tried. However, he remembered the sparks, and held a good distance from them. He tuned out her gross sobbing as he studied the injury, his lips twisting in confusion. He was no cleric, but he knew some.. basic medical skills for the sake of keeping himself alive. It wouldnt be pretty, but it would work.
"Stay here." He said, snorting with amusement to himself - where was she going to go? - before turning and scanning the area. He found some small, growing trees by the side of the street and made his way toward them. He snapped off a few branches before pulling off some of the wrap that laced his glaive.
He approached her slowly, holding out his findings for her to inspect if she wanted to. Again, they werent pretty, but they would do. "This will help your leg." He assured her before bending down to apply his makeshift splint.
