......
They told Moe that they weren't allowed to leave at night anymore. Which completely wasn't fair, because Moe was Moe and they needed to find the aliens. So, with determination, the pegasus foal snuck out that night, carrying their tiny body across the desert in search of aliens.
Their hooves dug into the sands, pushing them ever onward. Their tiny wings arched, fluttering and flapping as they pushed onwards. With a hop, Moe clambered onto a nearby rock. Alya’s winds pulled at their hair, causing them to giggle and bounce a little. It was nice, having the winds back. Their caretaker had taken them to see one of the furies to learn how to fly. But Moe never seemed interested, always wandering off into the desert to find aliens. Their caretaker was a nice horse, an older unicorn with a house full of children able to be adopted. Moe had only been there for six months after bouncing out of his last caretaker’s home because they couldn't care for them anymore. It was a pattern they had become used to. Stay somewhere for a little while, then move on because horses couldn't figure out how they got out to do what they did at night. Which was only wandering about.
Their head tilted back, staring at the sky. The stars were a constant source of fascination for the young pegasus, who stretched their wings beneath Alya’s skies and danced in Her breezes. Moe’s legs stretched out and pushed forwards, the foal galloping forwards to race a breeze. Of course, the breeze won. Moe didn't have very much stamina, being a child and all, but it made them giggle and rear, playing with the wind as it stirred sand around them. Then they were off again, playing with the wind and staring at the stars.
The top of Osulas was somewhere they visited often, scrambling up stairs to see the sky in all its splendor. They respectfully avoided the fields, not wanting to step on any precious plants. Those were needed! Moe stepped around the leaves of a cabbage, after admiring the stars in a puddle of water for a moment. They made sure to not brush the leaves of the vegetable, knowing in their heart that the cabbage would feed someone else, maybe even them! They licked their lips thoughtfully. Hm...they did like cabbage….no! Moe shook their head, continuing on. Then, they reached their place, high above Osulas. Moe could see their caretaker’s homestead on the edge of the city, so small from here, as well as the rest of Osulas. Some lights still shone, horses burning the midnight oil. Moe could respect that. Their periwinkle eyes turned from the city to the sky above, wings stretching above them.
“Hi Alya!” They chirped to the sky above them, sitting back on their haunches.
“I had a really good day today! I saw some rocks that looked like birds and some clouds that reminded me of you! Oh! I brought you somethin!” Moe turned to their saddlebags, pulling out a small scrap of paper. Drawn on it in charcoal was two stick figure horses, one with four wings, the other with tiny wings, both with goofy little smiles on their faces. Moe set the paper down, tail wagging slightly.
“I hope you like it! It's you and me!” Moe said, large ears swiveling forwards. The wind toyed with their mane. Moe bounced up and down, wings flapping. She liked it! Then, the pegasus sat down, head tilted back at the sky.

Embryss had always been prone to wander, more often as of late. Her mind remained unquieted since the negotiations and subsequent events on Talorian shores, and it seemed her whole importance and values were shifting. Embryss had spent most of her life perusing political affairs, her career and all the excitement that came with it. Of course, coming from a large family meant there were always some stronger ties to home – but Embryss only recently just how important family was. The messages came slow in her mind; slow down. Perhaps only half of that were true – she would never quiet the fire or passion she held in her job, but”she did need to focus on her home a bit more – and all that it entailed. After all, Serorans placed great value and joy in family and making it grow. Embryss often wondered, what would she do to follow such a path?
The stars had glinted every brighter since Alyas return – perhaps the Serorans had grown used to such a faint glow. The harsh reds and earthy colours were dimmed to cooler shades of teal and blue and purple in this light and It was during these times Embryss felt the most calm. She did not wander as far this evening and chose to stay closer to Osulas. A few nights Prior Embryss and Jack had reunited and tried to master flight together – a far trickier task than most! Embryss looked out at the scene before her, Osulas’s faint glow behind her and the sights of Zissuet in the distance. A herd of Perytons bounded to a new location and the wind teased at some of the larger trees that graced Osulas cliffsides. Embryss sighed deeply and concentrated on the night sky for a moment – feeling every star and its quicksilver snap came and went in periods of calm. Embryss used these quiet nights to focus her cosmic blessing further, and see what she could do; she had always wanted to attempt a star-shower across the skies. Embryss paused a moment, before trying to guide some of the older stars across the cosmos and hurtle them into a shower. Most of them hardly budged but three managed to soar across the sky, magnificent sparks tailing behind the stars before fading forever.
She heard it as a faint, childlike whisper at first. Who was that? Embryss thought. As she followed the sound closer suddenly she saw a flutter of dark wings scrambling up rocks – and a tiny foal jabbering on to the night sky. Embryss looked around her, trying to see if its parents or caretaker were nearby. Hmm. Nothing. Was the child speaking to Alya? Embryss smiled and slowly walked towards them. “Uh….hello there!” she spoke gently, before stepping closer and taking note of the foal. They hard larger ears and seemed to be a mix of mule. Their mane was a rich dark colour and their wings were quite strong. Why were they out here? “What is your name?” She glanced down to see a paper with scribblings of Alya and the child and smiled. “My name is Embryss.”

M O E Serora Folk ......
Moe had been watching the sky for years at this point. The colors of the stars had shifted in the past few weeks, becoming brighter and shining down on the tiny foal. They were pretty small for their age, but hardy, their fetlocks showing a bit of fur. They preened daily, made sure their hair looked less like a mess. Their caretaker helped them immensely in that regard.
The tiny pegasus shuffled their legs, idly shuffling the paper between their hooves. Slowly, they bent down, intent on tossing the paper to the wind so Alya would receive it to hang in Her cosmic space. Maybe if they were lucky, She would shift the stars and make their picture! Moe slowly shook their head, chiding themselves. Alya had better things to do than change Her stars to make his little picture! Least that's what the other kids told them. But they also said that the aliens aren't real so they weren't the best source of information. Moe at least knew that for a fact!
Then, something shifted in the sky. Moe’s head lifted from their drawing, watching as three stars went careening wildly through the air. Their mouth dropped open into an ‘o’, the child awestruck by the cosmic phenomenon. They held their breath for more, but it never came. Instead, hooves sounded behind the child. Moe twisted their head, feathers fluffing up slightly as they got ready to bolt. Their mind reminded them that this could be the aliens, coming to take them and haul them off where they could never be found. They puffed up their cheeks with held breath, going still and silent. Only to release it when the horse came into sight. It was a dark mare, lighter hair coming up to make an elaborate hairstyle Moe would want to attempt if they physically could. And she had tattoos! Really pretty gold tattoos, crafting the image of Alya, climbed up the mare’s chest and throat, with some decorating her front legs too. A nose ring connected to a cuff on her ear by a delicate chain.
Moe offered the mare a wide smile, wings shuffling against their back.“Hi! Im Moe!” They said back, ears swiveling around to face the mare“You have really pretty tattoos!” The child commented, eyes scanning the mare, wondering how she would respond. Embryss was a pretty name! It sounded familiar, but Moe couldn't quite put their hoof on it. Eh, she seemed nice and that's all that mattered!

They were incredibly chipper and such childlike glee made her heart soften. “Oh to be a child again” Embryss thought. Where the weight of the world and baddies were held at bay by miraculous adults. Adults like Embryss. Her tired eyes looked up to the sky once more before back down to Moe, who had now introduced themselves. “It is nice to meet you Moe” Embryss chirped back “Thankyou. And I am sure you know who it is on the tattoo?” Embryss eyed the drawing Moe did once more. Embryss still needed answers however, and this innocent chatter could not be maintained forever.
“Why are you out here all alone, Moe?” she asked “Where are your parents or caretaker?”. Embryss took another moment and strained her eyes into the distance, she did not remember passing any others on her way here. Perhaps this child was lost? Or orphaned? Embryss would have to speak with the caregivers in the morning to find out more.

Moe’s answer was a grin and a nod. Of course they knew who was on Miss Embryss’s tattoo!
“Its Alya!” They said, tail wagging slightly. Then came the next question. Moe tilted their head. “I ain't got no parents. The aliens took them.” The tiny pegasus mused.
“My caretaker lives over there. ” Moe lifted a hoof, pointing to the house on the edge of the city. “They are really nice. The other kids aren't though. They keep telling me the aliens aren't real. But i know they are!” Moe’s feathers puffed up as they puffed out their cheeks.
“I came up here to talk to Alya, and give Her my gift!” The mule bent, snagging the paper between their teeth to show to Embryss. “Dwew if mywelf ” They said, before their ears stood straight up as they remembered they had to do something. Quickly, the mule stood, moving to the edge of the cliff to toss the paper to the wind. Then, they returned to their place at Embryss’s side, plopping on their rear once more.
“Why’d you come up here Miss Embryss? Did you wanna talk to Alya too?”

“I ain’t got no parents. The aliens took them.”
Embryss blinked, looking at the small child. Aliens? They would do well to meet Nicodemus she thought to herself, but could not help but linger on the thought of what they meant. Were their parents killed? The Ill musings of a troubled mind? The scenario was likely and perhaps she would investigate it further. Perhaps there were some records of a murder, or their caretaker knew? Moe mentioned their caretaker and she trailed her gaze off for a moment. Perhaps Embryss would speak with them later – she took note of the location.
Embryss shifted her gaze back to the child and smiled. Their devotion to Alya made her think of her own youth – and even now. There was something sensitive and beautiful about devotion and faith – a reason to hope beyond what was present. Embryss watched as the paper fluttered in the wind, quivered, before being hurtled into Alyas currents.
A lot had shifted in Embryss since her return. The murkiness and messiness of political affairs quickly obstructed all of the more attractive thoughts of travel and pomp that Embryss had once thought of in her line of work. She was younger, sillier when she had started – and a lot had changed since then. More than ever, Embryss placed a great importance on family, connections and togetherness. For whatever the destiny each god had plucked for each mortal – their time on earth surely had to mean something? Perhaps it was time to explore her meaning. Family. Give more and be more than herself. She looked to Moe. Perhaps?...
Embryss smiled and spoke softly. “I did. I have been coming up here a lot to speak with Alya. I always find the stars a lot easier to talk to than the winds.” She smiled, as what seemed like glimmers and star-fall form around her back. Slowly larger stars formed at integral points in a wing, and in a few moments, space-like wings appeared by her side, folded to rest. After that, she plopped down beside Moe, enjoying the cool desert rocks beneath her and taking a moment to really rest. “What do you talk to Alya about?”

......
Moe watched Miss Embryss closely. It was an innate talent of theirs, the art of watching people, so much you would think the child was a born perception based spy. But Moe just liked watching horses. It was fun to watch them. How they acted. Moe found it funny sometimes, what horses thought you wouldn't see. Once they saw someone trip and look around frantically like someone was about to jump at them. That wasn't a nice day for Moe.
But Miss Embryss seemed...nice. Their caretaker was nice, but their attention was split between half a dozen foals at any given time. Moe would never admit it, but they liked the individual attention they received. It made them feel, for just a moment, special. Integral in some way. The foal was one who desired attention like a thirsty horse desired water in the Sear. It was something speculated about when their caretaker thought they were asleep, but Moe knew. They worried for them, and their apparent strangeness. But Moe thought they were just fine on their own. No help from Mullahs and the Prophet needed.
Then, something shifted on Embryss’s back and Moe watched wide eyed as the seemingly common mare sprouted starry wings. They gaped for a moment, periwinkle shooting from their own wings to the mare’s next to him. “Woah…” Moe whispered, awestruck. Then, they realized. Miss Embryss had asked them a question. They quickly scrambled to answer.
“I like to talk to Her about a whole bunch of stuff. Most of the time I talk to Her about my day though. And if She knows where my parents are.” The foal frowned slightly, scuffing a hoof against the ground. “I also sometimes bring drawings up here to give to Her. I hope She likes them”

Her heart had softened with age. Embryss smiled as Moe scrambled to find an answer and she couldn’t help but draw a leg closer to keep the child safe. One of her astral wings drew close for a moment before fading from view. Alya would have surely been smiling at them – they were selflessly devoted to her. Embryss pondered on the thoughts for a moment, “perhaps…..is it time to devote my life to something bigger than myself? A child?” The thought filled her with fear, joy and joy all swirling within her heart.
She smiled at Moes response, they seemed unsure. Embryss spoke softly, warmly “I know that Alya likes them. She cares and has deep love for all that shelter beneath her wings. Have you ever thought that perhaps the stars in the night sky might have been inspired by your drawings?” Embryss smiled and gently nudged his cheek before looking back up to the sky. “I reckon our great sky mother is telling you every night the stars come out that she loves your drawings, Moe.”
Embryss took a deep breath and took a leap into the unknown “Perhaps in the morning I should go speak with your caretaker, Moe. They sound awfully busy, perhaps you should stay with me and my family?”

Moe happily allowed themself to be tugged into the hug. With their ear pressed to Miss Embryss, they could hear her heartbeat, and the vibration of her words. They opened an eye, staring up at the sky above. Periwinkle scanned the stars, searching for a visage of their drawings. Maybe one day Alya would speak to them. They hoped that day was soon.
Then, Miss Embryss spoke of talking to their caretaker in the morning. Moe raised their head in brief confusion, then realized. She….she wants me. She really wants me! The pegasus foal smiled as wide as they possibly could, feathers fluffing up. “That would be awesome Miss Embryss!” Moe gasped, tail picking up wagging like a happy dog. They pulled from the hug to bounce around, wings flapping like mad. This was so cool! Miss Embryss was gonna adopt them! Moe whirled, smiling wider than ever. “My caretaker should be looking for me, if you wanna talk to them now!” Moe began to bound for the edge of the steppe, despite Embryss not answering their question. They always were an impulsive child.

Embryss enjoyed the moment while it lasted, and as she looked down at Moe who had taken to her embrace – Embryss realised her world was about to become so much bigger. No matter her purpose and role as a Councillor to the peoples, she was now to give care to another soul as well. Her importance, her ego and everything she had ever used to define herself was now shifting and changing. Both fear and pride rose within her heart and not long after the words left her lips that she was going to adopt Moe, the young foal erupted into the sky, overjoyed.
Embryss was jolted out of her pondering and calm and watched Moe’s display of joy as they bounded across the rocks and suggested Embryss go speak to their caretaker now. She blinked for a moment, letting herself collect her thoughts before slowly getting to her feet, chuckling as she did. She smiled warmly at Moe and spoke “Okay Moe, let us go see them then.” She looked to the edge of the Steppe and as fate would have it, could see a horse wandering below – one who seemed to be searching. She looked to Moe and asked, “Is that them?”

Moe bobbed their head. “Thats them!” Their caretaker slowly came into view.
A unicorn, their horns curving around their long ears as they searched for a certain feathered foal. “Moe?! Moooe?!” Their voice echoed around the canyon. As they grew closer, they were easy to identify. An overo mule, white splashing over their buckskin coat. Moe’s tail wagged slightly at seeing them. After a moment, the foal piped up. “Over here caretaker!” The mule’s head snapped to the foal, before they were visibly relieved. They bounded across the sand, snagging Moe into a hug, muttering empty threats and hugging the pegasus close to them.
“I told you not to go alien hunting!” They hissed. Moe looked up, smiling. “I found someone who wants to adopt me!” The unicorn’s eyes visibly widened, looking up from Moe’s black mane to spy Embryss. They blinked. “O-Oh! Wind under your wings Councillor Embryss.” The unicorn smiled, tail twitching. “I hope Moe wasn't bothering you!” Moe snorted in their embrace. “I didn't do anything!”
Moe listened to their heartbeat in their chest. Hrumph. They didn't do anything. That wasn't fair.

Embryss could hear the voice of the caretaker trailing, very quickly outvoiced by Moe eagerly. Embryss followed Moe down to where the caretaker was and smiled, watching the two exchange quickly. Embryss’s detail was quickly shifted from Moe as the caretaker addressed her. Embryss smiled and bowed her head in respect. “And wind under yours, caretaker…..?” She queried the name, smiling. Embryss chuckled “Moe was not bothering me in the least. In fact I stumbled upon them! They are quite the artist might I add” Embryss looked down to Moe and winked.
Embryss took a step forward “Actually Caretaker, what Moe says is true. With the oncoming threat of war and my time abroad in negotiations….it has put a lot of my life into perspective.” She smiled, perhaps a little helplessly. “Moe would be introduced into a very large family, I would never be short of support, nor would Moe” she chuckled. Half of Serora knew the family, and how large they were.

Moe looked up at their caretaker, a smug expression sitting on their tiny muzzle. The caretaker sighed.
“Ime. My name is Ime.” The unicorn said, releasing Moe from their embrace. They chuckled as the pegasus foal scrambled over to stand beside Embryss, smiling up at the taller mare. Ime stood, their leonine tail swishing behind them. “They are a good artist.” Moe’s eyes lit up, the foal bouncing on the tips of their hooves as they stared up at Ime, waiting for the caretaker to give in. The unicorn smiled down at the foal, before focusing on the Councilor before them. “I have no doubt Moe would be well taken care of by you and your family. If Moe truly wishes to go with you, I will not deny them that.” Moe erupted upwards, wings fluttering as they ran a small excited circle, eyes wide. Ime chuckled and shook their head.
“Moe is yours, Councilor.”
