The drought has devastated Osula’s farmland, and the Nomads have returned to the capital with similar news of their own crops. The situation is looking well and truly bleak- so much that even non-agriculturalists are urged to spend their “free time” searching for precious resources for the herd. The Shaman is a natural choice, with his deep knowledge of the earth and its herbs, and with some fleetfeet, his medicine horse, and apprentice, the group sets out under the burning sun. Jack | Shaman
Sedo was a hot and arid place, any horse knew that
What they did not know was how hot it truly got under Ignacio's sun.
The heat had devastated the land, ripping water from the soil and leaving gnarly cracks in the ground to ensure that it's presence was know. Not only did it effect the land and crops, but the people as well. Jack and Osula's medicine horses could barely keep up with the number of Horses that passed their way, illness's ranging from extreme dehydration to heat stroke and everything in between. It was a dire situation and even worse was the incoming nomads, bringing barely any successful herbs or food their way. Was Ignacio punishing them? Raining his fiery heat down up the land that his sister shielded and bringing her people crumbling to their knees.
With such a dire situation indeed, Jack was tasked to lead a party into Ziuseset, in search of anything that could aid their herd. So they set out under the radiating sun, packed lightly with enough food and water for at least a weeks travel, and enough space to bring back anything important. Jack stood silently near the stairs that would lead them down to the canyon floor, lost in deep thought. He hadn't been a shaman for very long, and wondered if had failed as one. Here he was, about to leave the ill and worried horses that needed his attention just to maybe find some herbs. Was this trip worth the risk? or should they pray that Alya would save them? Furrowing his brow, Jack glanced up at the sky. Was Alya testing hiss faith?
With a shake of his head, he turned to face his gathering party, offering a polite smile to them "All set? Well then, let us be on our way" and with that, he began to descend the great stairs. He knew where they were to first go search for herbs, a luxurious patch that he had found as a medicine horse. It always provided a plethora of useful herbs, and hoped it would have survived the drought. After an hours travel, they finally reached the base of the canyon, stepping out of the shadows and into the heat of Ziuseset "I would have rather liked to leave at night, but the area we are going is known for it's dangerous nocturnal creatures... we shouldn't have any trouble, but in case we do, we have you three fleet footers" he chuckled softly his eyes going over the members of his search crew.
"Now, keep your eyes out for anything green, or that seems to be alive. We need all we can get" he explained as they began to walk, his eyes scanning the area around them.

Leif | Serora | Apprentice
It was hot. Very, very, very hot.
So hot that it seemed that the earth itself was beginning to crack under the sun's harsh rays. The drought seemed to be taking its toll on the land that they called home. Sedo was literally cracking and crumbling under their hooves. It certainly hadn't help the plant life either. Crops had withered away to unusable clumps of dust, and herbs for the ill were reacting the same way to this unbearable heat.
Leif had been chosen to aid in a search for any sort of plant life left in Sedo, and the young colt was practically bursting with excitement at the thought of going on his first actual mission. It had gotten even more awesome when he saw horses that he knew there. Basyl and Aragon were friends of his, even though Basyl wasn't very fond of his canine familiar, and he looked forward to traveling through the desert with them in order to help their herd. Who knew, maybe they'd even find something!
The heat of the sun as it sat in the sky was almost unbearable for Leif as they traveled to wherever their team leader was taking them. He could feel sweat dripping off of his skin and onto the dusty ground beneath him. His dingo familiar, Bambam, panted beside him, walking in his shadow though it didn't seem to be helping keep the sun off the poor dog's fur. Leif groaned quietly to himself, his blue eyes looking around for any signs of a pond or something that they could stop at to get a drink or rest. "Are we almost there yet?" Leif questioned as an hour passed by and the group was still moving. 'I sure hope so.' Bambam whined up to him, knowing that the other horses around them weren't able to understand his speech.
At the sight of the canyon, Leif let out a soft sigh. He was so ready to be able to look for plants in the shade of the canyon walls! His ears swiveled toward Jack as the stallion spoke, and a smile appeared on his face at the mention of 'dangerous nocturnal creatures.'
'Don't get any ideas, Leif. I'll keep my nose on any signs of any dangerous predators. You look for plants and water.' The dingo barked up to his friend who rolled his eyes in response.
"My familiar, Bambam, says that he'll keep a look out for any dangerous creatures while we search. That'll help us focus on looking for anything helpful." Leif said, giving the group a cheerful grin. "I'm gonna go look over here near those rocky outcroppings. Those would protect the plants right?" The apprentice walked forward curiously, poking his head into different crevasses and other shady-looking places for any signs of life while Bambam snuffled around them, on the lookout for anything unusual.

Checkpoint 1// You’ve set out to locate resources in the parched Zuisuset. Though the sun is hot on your back, you know that you must muscle through the misery of the heat. Someone must find new herbs, for the herd at large is suffering, the deplorable conditions causing your fellows to fall ill.

Aragon arrived early to their meeting spot early, as she usually did. She felt the hot sun on her back and stretched out her long agile legs. She would have to be smart with spending her energy, it always felt as if the sun could drain energy from her. Especially today, this would be a tricky time.
When everyone appeared Ari smiled at her friends, Jack, Leif, and Eryin. She offered a polite dip of her head to Basyl and Kaliska, two mares she hadn't had the pleasure of speaking to.
When Jack began to speak the red Arabian have him all her attention. She nodded hearing the game plan and looked to the other fleet feet there. She walked with the small group, pulling down her goggles down to protect her eyes from the sun's harsh waves and any sand that could fly into her face. She flicked her braided tail once before checking around the surroundings behind the group. Her small ears flicked hearing mostly the sounds of hooves kicking up dirt, and the different breathing of the squad. Hearing Leif talk Aragon looked over go him. "Just stay in view for now." She said seeing he was already off. She watched him to make sure nothing would happen, Ryder didn't need to loose another horse close to him.

Jack | Shaman
Jack sighed softly in relief as they finally entered the next canyon, the shade a nice refreshment from the blistering sun. He took out one of the canteens he had packed and took a sip, being careful not to waist any water or drink too much. When he was content, he put it back in his satchel, and looked at the others "yes, fan out for now and carefully gather anything of value. And do watch out for snakes, we don't need to have another ill horse to treat" he said with a soft laugh, even though he was entirely serious. Before going to search, Jack watched Lief for a few moments, taking in the child who had so much promise in him. It made Jack even more determined to help find these vital herbs and not let another life go to waste.
With a crack of his neck, Jack began to search the cracks and cervices of the canyon, plucking anything green "be on the look out for a horned flower with pink petals and white spots on them; It's a amazing plant that really helps a dehydrated horse. We ran out of supple of them about two days ago" Jack said loudly enough for the rest to her him, his words echoing off the rocky canyon walls. "Once we've thoroughly been and cleaned this area out, we can head further into the canyon" he spoke "many of the more valuable plants we are searching for thrive in the shade."

Basyl | Fleet Foot
Basyl had remained silent during majority of the trip. She only knew Leif out of all of her companions. The day was hot and not long after they had begun their mission, she could feel the heat building under her fur. It was more than a little miserable. But it was her job and the herd needed the herbs, so despite the discomfort Basyl kept her head high as she trotted along, eyes sharp for anything that looked alive. Though finding life in the desolate heat of Sedo was easier said than done. More than once she thought they had hit it lucky, but it turned out the yellow plant was either not what they needed or long dead.
Eventually they came to a shady relief of the canyon's shadows and Basyl took no time to revel in it. Just the few degrees of change was a blessing to the sweaty horses. But the break only lasted a few moments as Jack commanded the small crew to continue their pursuit of herbs. While Basyl picked carefully over rocks, occasionally kicking smaller ones out of her way. Her head bobbed up and down, down to search for the flowers Jack had described and up to scan the surroundings for her companions. As the time grew and their search only proved fruitless, frustration began to grow in Basyl. She understood the need for their work, but wouldn't Gatherers have been better suited to the job?
Basyl knocked another small rock from it's lodgings. It only revealed a small black scorpion that was none to pleased with being disturbed. The tobiano mare jumped back, snorting in surprise. But a small scorpion would be no match for her hooves, she concluded and thus nothing for her to fear. She picked her way over the angry arachnid, who snapped it's pinches at her in an attempt to appear more threatening. At least it had spirit.
A low groan grew in her throat, "Has anyone found anything?" she asked, her voice echoing some off the canyon walls.

Eyrin | Medicine horse
Eyrin was sweating, like a lot, his messy mane sticking to his forehead in a fashion that made it more difficult to see. He tried shaking his head to get it to the side, but it only worked partially. Maybe should Alexa cut it back... Then again it did come in handy against pesky insect, though he was sure even they did not manage in this weather. It was hot! And not like normal Serora hot either, more like Ignacio had finally decided to fry them all. He threw a somewhat miffed look at the sky as if Ignacio was actually sitting there, laughing as he watched them crawl like little ants. Hopefully there would be no bush fires...
As everyone slowly gatheted, he dipped his head politely. Though ge knew most by face and even some names, he didn't actually knew any of them personally, well, anyone but... He smiled at Aragon, having know her since they were foals. He was happy she was around as it made him feel a little insecure, being suddenly surrounded by so many 'strangers' to him. He was pulled from his thoughts as Jack spoke, explaining why they were leaving now rather than at night. To be honest, Eyrin was a little worried, 'cause as he understood it all medicine horses were coming and sure herbal knowledge was important for this task, but... "Will the herd be alright, Shaman?" He couldn't help with worry. He had already fussed about his father's burn wounds before leaving, the proud stallion's hide was sensitive normally, now he could barely leave the shade.
When told to fan out, he made to look under some rocks as well, but froze in his tracks as their shaman mentioned snakes. A shiver wracked his big frame, immediately much more reluctant to go anywhere near possible hiding places for the limbless monsters. He gulped, instead inspecting a rather death looking bush for useable leaves. Where they any good dried? He wasn't sure, he was still learning the many herbs after all.
He looked over his shoulder as Basyl called. "Uhm, maaaybe? Does anyone if this is of some use?" He asked, poking the bush with his hooves and making some of the few shrivelled leaves fall of. Oops. He quickly pulled his hoof back, looking sheepish. "I don't know this one," he admitted.

Aragon heard Jack talk and once again, and gave him his attention. Flicking one of her small ears to point towards him listening to his description. 'A horned plant..?' She thought to herself trying to picture the flower in her minds eye. The red Arabian trotted around, her long legs stretching out in front of her as she looked around the barren desert. Deciding to take Jack's advice and fan out she moved out a little more but tried to stay close to the min herd, in case of any animal attacks that could spring up.
Ari heard Basyl's question and sighed. "I haven't seen much other than dead grass.." She said looking at the dried yellow grass. "But there must be some close by!" She added trying to keep optimistic in the situation. Making a circle she passed by Leif and Bambam then back to Eyrin. Ari giggled seeing the the leaves fall. ".. I really don't understand this flower stuff.. but that definitely looks dead." She said and looked up at him trying not to crack a smile.

Kaliska | Fleet Foot
The Arabian mare kept to the back of the pack. Lost in her own thoughts. 'Why would Alya cause such a horrid drought? Was Ignacio initiating war?'. Her light purple eyes were down at her hooves, seeing nothing but yellow stalks of grass dot the cracked dusty wasteland. She was snapped from her internal conflicts by jack telling everyone which plant to look for. Her head raised and nodded softly taking in the info.
Her spindly legs kicked up some dirt as she fanned out with the rest of the group. She headed east, her head low to the ground. She wasn't one for much conversation yet she was too shy to speak to anyone. She was use to being holed up, reading her books in her small little mud hut not far from this area. So being in the company of others was a rare occurrence to her.
A squawk from Nasim broke her silence. She looked down to the Zesla following her. She smiled warmly to the Zesla and turned towards Jack. "Maybe Nasim, my zesla, could help us in some way? His diet mainly consists of snakes." She chirped in her typical soft tone. Her flower knowledge wasn't that great but she wasn't afraid of snakes, considering she had to take care of Nasim. The creature was circling the mare in a child-like way. Completely enamored by his owner.

Leif | Serora | Apprentice
As Leif heard Aragon call back to him to stay in sight, he rolled his eyes playfully, casting her a mischievous grin before trotting around the surrounding area in search of anything that looked like it was alive. "I'll stay in sight, Aragon." Leif groaned with a huff. Of course, he wouldn't go running off into the wilderness by himself, though he was used to doing so with Bambam, but this was serious business! He was on a mission to find some sort of plant life.
He occasionally glanced around at the other members of their party during his search. His ears perked up when he heard Eyrin's nervous call. Excitedly, Leif trotted over to take a look at the stallion's findings, but to his dismay, the plant that Eyrin had found looked like it was as dead as the rest of the plants around here. "I'm pretty sure that thing is long gone whatever it is." Leif chuckled, poking the dried bush and causing more of the leaves to rustle and fall off their branches. "Nice try though! I've only found rocks and spiders."
Leif turned his attention toward the grey mare, Kaliska, when her soft voice spoke up, pointing to her familiar that was walking around her. He stared at the strange creature for a moment with a grin on his face as her words grabbed his attention. "He eats snakes? That's so cool! I've never seen a zesla before. He's really awesome." Leif said, glancing over at Bambam as the dingo huffed loudly. The colt shrugged innocently, nudging his canine companion in an attempt to convey that he didn't mean that he was any less cool than the mythical creature. "I don't think that we're gonna find anything in this area. Should we keep moving further into the canyon?" The colt asked curiously. It sure seemed like everything right here was of no use to the herd.

Eyrin | Medicine horse
Great, now everyone was poking fun at him, great move Eyrin. He looked at the bush, a little miffed. His mentor used to dry herbs on occasion to keep them longer, he had hoped the sun had basically done the same. The others seemed to just consider it death though. "The dried leaves, I meant," he mumbled quietly, embarrassed by his own suggestion. So far for making a good first impression.
He walked around and faced a rock, veeerrrryy carefully lifting it a bit from a distance. The idea of snakes had him sweating even more as he peered under it. Phew, snake free, but sadly also plant free. His ears flicked towards the others' conversation, his interest peaked by the Zesla. He suddenly felt like getting one himself. Perfect, snake devouring creature. Well, if only it hadn't been a mythical creature that was. He doubted there were tons of them to go round. Trying to make conversation, he turned towards leif. "What about your familiar? Does it eat snakes too?" He eyed it, not all that familiar with...well familiars. Keeping his ears turned for a reply, he set about inspecting another rock cautiously. He huffed when it turned up nothing again, both relieved and disappointed. No snakes, no herbs. "I hope the deeper parts will grants us better luck, not much seems to be out here," he said to no one in particular.

Basyl | Fleet Foot
Basyl rolled her eyes at everyone. They were tittering fearfully about snakes of all things. A low huff came from the mare. Not everyone preferred reptiles like she did, with the thought she shot a glance to Bambam. She raised her head, ears pressed back as she listened to everyone talking, "If you see a snake, just give it a wide berth. It doesn't want to be bothered as much as you don't want to be." she explained, snakes weren't inherently evil.
Her bobbed tail wiggled a bit as she continued on her pursuit for the flowers. This was more up Kyanite's lane than her's. Her hooves scuffed up against the rocks that she punted a few feet ahead of her. She was quickly growing exhausted of this search, her frustration only rising.
Her head swiveled around to look over to Jack, "Wouldn't it make more sense to look for green plants closer to the river?" she asked, the exhaustion pretty plain on her face. Even in the shade of the canyon it was way too hot. What ever happened spending the blistering days in the coolness of their adobes?

Jack | Shaman
Jack was too lost in his own thought and heard little of what the group was talking about. He was contemplating different reasons as to why this was dreaded drought had plagued their land. Perhaps Cascade was finally drawing back the water that she had given Hireath, slowly killing off the children of her siblings. Had something happened in the Talori herd to cause this? or were the gods waging war once more and causing the death of their creations in turn. It angered him to think of Alya in such low manners, but it seemed that she had already turned her back to them...
Jack shook his head and continued to search for anything useful "please Alya, left us find anything! help your people..." he spoke softly to himself, grinding his teeth. When he heard Basyl direct a question his way, he quickly lifted his head, ears turned toward her "Most of the rivers beds have dried up, ripping any water the plants would have had anyways," he shook his head sadly "plants that thrive in the shade with little water our are best bet, as rare as they may be..." he finished, letting out a sigh. With heavy shoulders, Jack began to move forward "Come, we will look deeper in the canyon and hope to find something to help our herd" he spoke, glancing back to make sure they were following him.
"If any of you begin to feel ill, please inform Eyrin or I. I do not wish to have one of you fall to the heat of the sun this day" he said in a louder voice so they all heard him.

Leif | Serora | Apprentice
The colt's ears swiveled toward Eyrin as the stallion turned toward him and his familiar. He glanced down at Bambam, who seemed to still be pouting over his master's apparent betrayal at saying the zesla was cool, and chuckled. "I've never really seen him go after snakes before, but he eats meat, so I guess if he caught one, he could eat it." Leif answered, waiting to see if Bambam would say anything to confirm his thoughts but sighed quietly as the dingo remained silent. 'Woops. I think I might have hurt his feelings a little bit.'
Leif turned back to look for more useful herbs in the nooks and crannies around the canyon walls. He turned over rocks, peeked into crevasses, but wherever he searched, there were no signs of anything green. He listened intently to the others as they spoke about the river and how it, and other water sources, had dried up from the heat. It was a miracle that they weren't already too dehydrated to even move. He lifted his head from his search when Jack motioned for them to continue further into the canyon, and Leif trotted forward, his familiar close on his heels. "Yes, sir!" Leif responded back to Jack's instruction to tell him or Eyrin if he was feeling sick. Now would certainly not be the time to get ill and not be able to help.

Eyrin | Medicine horse
Feeling more than a little embarrassed, he acted like he was inspecting another rock. Well, he was actually really inspecting the rock, but the point was looking too buzzy or maybe being too buzzy to feel embarrassed. He guessed it didn't work in the end, so he just concentrated on Bantam and the possibility that he may be able to eat snakes.
Well, that didn't help either except the thought of snakes had him concentrating on those pesky creatures again.
And he was probably overthinking things again.
What was he reasoning about? Oh, yes, distracting himself from being emb-
Luckily there was Jack to save him from his own thoughts, mentioning his duty to take care of his companions if they felt ill. He hoped nobody would start feeling unwell though.
Eyrin sighed a little, he needed water. He was confusing himself more than he usually did and silently prayed Ayla to bless them with some relieving liquid to quench their thirsts. As hard as it was, it was not the moment to give up though and they needed to push through, even if the gods were currently occupied. He was counted on. "Yes, please do not hesitate to tell if you do not feel well. I will do my best to assist." He hoped the deeper part of the canyon would grant them better luck as he started moving in that direction.

Jack | Shaman
With a glance back at everyone in the party Jack observed each member, taking in their condition. The drought had taken the energy and drive out of mostly everyone in the herd, but the lack of not finding any usable resources seemed to really be getting to everyone. With a quiet, frustrated sigh, Jack furrowed his eyebrows and thought for a moment, staring at the hard ground.
With renewed vigor, he lifted his head, turning back to the group and smiling softly "come on everyone, let us move forward into the next section of the canyon" he said enthusiastically, beginning to trot towards the next bend of the canyon.
As everyone began to trot forward, Jack fell back slightly to mingle with the other horses, offering each of them a drink of water and making sure they were okay. He fell back to Leif last, smiling slightly at the young stallion "so, Leif, how is your apprenticeship coming? well, I hope" he chuckled softly, looking down at him "I remember my apprenticeship being filled with the worry over what role i was eventually going to settle with."he laughed again, remembering his younger days in Serora. He glanced up for a moment from their conversation, making sure everyone was continuing along the trail and not lagging behind or showing signs of exhaustion.

Leif | Serora | Apprentice
Leif trotted along after the longer-legged horses of his group, trying up to keep up with them so that he didn't fall behind or get lost in the canyon. He glanced around them curiously at the landscape as well as the other horses around him. He'd never met a couple of them personally, but he was sure that he had probably seen them around, and of course, he was pretty good friends with Basyl and Aragon. Jack, Kaliska, and Eyrin seemed nice though. It was exciting to know that he had been chosen for such an important mission like this at such a young age. 'Oh man, I can't even imagine what I'll be doing when I'm older! I bet it's going to be awesome!' The colt thought excitedly, not letting his thirst and hunger from the weeks of drought slow him down.
When Jack came around with water, Leif drank a bit, trying not to be too eager with his helping before offering his familiar a sip as well. He handed the water back to Jack as the stallion began to speak. A smile pulled up the corners of his lips, and his blue eyes turned upwards toward the taller stallion. "My apprenticeship is going awesome! I've learned a lot from a lot of different horses. My dad taught me a little bit about herbs and different plants, but I really like training with Io, she's kind of like my mentor, and Basyl whenever I get to see her. I'm not too worried about what I'm going to be though. I know that I'm gonna be a warrior..." Leif paused in his speech, 'like my mom,' almost falling out of his mouth before he quickly caught himself. He didn't want to be like the mare that had abandoned him and his father to disappear to some unknown place without even a whisper that she was leaving. Shaking his head, the colt recovered and returned back to his usual, goofy grin. "Hopefully, I'll even be good enough to be an Iron Hoof for the Sultan."

Basyl | Fleet Foot
The day was only growing hotter and Basyl only a bit more annoyed. She understood the necessity though, but their lack of success was growing more and more frustration with every step. Jack made rounds, giving everyone water. She excepted a small amount, she didn't want them to run out of water, it would be a long day.
Eventually she slowed her steps and glanced over to where Jack and Leif were talking, "Hey, Jack.. couldn't we use Bambam to track down these herbs? I mean he is a dog. Dogs can do that whole smell-tracking thing." she said and glanced over to Bambam. She could definitely like the dog better if he made their day a lot shorter. Basyl turned to gaze across the desolate terrain. Her mother had always said that the harsh place they lived, made some of the strongest horses in all of Hireath. The War Forged had nothing on them. But Basyl couldn't remember a day that she had hated the sun's heat more.

Jack looked over at Basyl as she spoke, nodding his head "yes, Lief, do you think you could ask bambam to-" Jack trailed off, his ears flickering as he heard something "sh, everyone stop for a moment" he spoke, ears moving as he listened hard. He swore he had heard a-
Dingo
and a whole pack at that. The wild dogs growled as they came around the bend in the canyon, teeth bared as they stalked forward, tails and hackles raised. Jack licked his lips, taking a step back "They must be starving," he thought aloud "everyone, back against each other! don't let them get you from behind" he said, moving closer to Lief. The dingoes began to move closer, some even daring to lunge at the horses feet "Stay close to each other-" Jack shouted, only to be cut off as a dingo growled and lunged at him. Jack managed to bring his leg up in time to defend against the attack, the animal's fangs sinking into his flesh. With a pained cry, he stomped his legs, kicking the dingo off of him. With blood dripping down his leg, Jack stomped his hooves against hard the ground, earning a cry of panic from the fallen dingo.

Aragon listens to the group as continued walking. Now her mind drifted off to Ray as she thought about how he was and what he might have been doing. She sighed and looked forward again.
Hearing Basyl talk she listed to her "that's genius!" She said. But there was also the problem that the group didn't have herbs to give him to help him find the scent.
As they continued moving Aragon was about to account ahead but hearing Jack she stopped. 'Dingos!' She though as she saw the pack approach. She pulled down her goggles and got ready to attack. "Watch out." She said as she summoned wind to come whirl around her front legs. As a dingo ran forward to attack Aragon ran at it head on. She sent one of the winds off her legs to act as a knife and cut through the dingo. It sliced the dogs eyes. Pain the dingo whined and tried to turn around and run from the herd of horses, blindingly stumbling along. As another jumped up to try and grab her back Aragon kicked her back legs up pushing the dog further into the sky then having the wind slam its body down onto the ground. With a sickening crack it's body collided with the ground.

Leif | Serora | Apprentice
His ears perked up at Basyl's question. What a great idea! Before the colt even got the chance to ask Bambam if he could scent out from herbs for them, deep, menacing growls echoed off of the canyon walls. Leif's ears fell back against his head at the sight of the pack of starving dingoes. They bared their teeth and growled as they waited for any sign of movement to begin the hunt. "Bambam, stay close. I don't want you to get mixed up with them." Leif whispered to his familiar just as Jack stepped in front of him to protect him. The colt let out a stubborn snort, looking around Jack to see one of the dingoes break off from the others, diving after Jack only to be kicked by the Shaman.
With that, it was like all hell broke loose. The dingoes lunged forward, their teeth bared and ready to bite. Leif whinnied in shock at their sudden, quick movements, and as one jumped up to try to bite his neck, he was lucky enough to get a kick in with his front hooves, sending the canine skittering on the ground. 'Look out!' Leif heard Bambam call out, and he turned just in time for another dingo to claw at his shoulder. The colt winced in pain, turning his head to try to bite his attacker, but his familiar was already to the rescue. Bambam let out a loud snarl, tackling the wild dog off of Leif and pinning it to the ground by its neck. Blood formed on Leif's side where the dingo had scratched and bit him, but the apprentice pushed past the pain, kicking out at any canine that came close enough to him. "Watch out for Bambam!" He called out to everyone else, worried that his friend would be mistaken for one of their attackers.

Eyrin | Medicine horse
Interest caught, he listened to the suggestion of Bantam sniffing out herbs. That was a pretty smart idea, only he wouldn't be able to help with herbs they had completely run out of, which were the ones they needed the most. He held his mouth, not wanting to be a downer.
Jack's sudden request for them to be quiet came a second before growls reached his ears. It seemed snakes turned out to be the least of their problems as starved dingos appeared, every single one of them eyeing them as walking meat. The canines were hungry and it was clear their group was walking dinner in the animal's eyes.
Eyrin was quick to back up, his rear facing the others as if on instinct. "Form a circle!" he called with a speed of reaction that was much unlike himself. "That way they can only attack the front." Turning towards Leif, he called. "Keep Bantam in the middle. He can't get mixed up that way and defend us if one slips through." The white of his eyes showed and he breathed heavily as he tried to ignore the dingos attacking his companions and faced his own opponents. His hoof struck the first, the second, their bones easily crushed under his weight. It made him feel sick. It was self-defence, but this as blood coloured his hoof, he couldn't help but feel disgusted. These animals were starving, hungry enough to throw caution in the wind and attack them. They were probably as suffering as much from this draught as they were. This was not for him, he was meant to heal not kill. As their blood mixed with his and his friends' however, a little sympathy for the creatures drained away. It was kill or be killed and he swore his herd mates would not be the ones that fell. A circle, a circle would keep 'em safest.

Basyl | Fleet Foot
All of the sudden praise for her idea made Basyl beam. She probably should have mentioned the idea sooner, but just as she was reveling in her own brilliance Jack shushed everyone. With the canyon quiet, Basyl could feel goosebumps spread over her flesh at the sound of the hounds. This was why Bambam uneasy. He reminded her too much of the dirty dingos that patrolled Sedo. Basyl sprung into action though, backing up to stand beside Jack and Leif. She snorted and slapped her hooves hard against the rock below, the blow echoing through the canyon. The hounds lunged at her and her companions and she flung her front hooves at them, stamping and snorting, threatening to crush their skulls under hoof. The dingos were smarter and faster than she had expected though and they dove in more than once at her front legs and while she stamped wildly, they would dodge away completely unharmed and a new open gash on her front leg. It stung, but the adrenaline that ran through her, made it more than a little easy to ignore it.
The band of horses backed against each other and tried to evade and chase off the dingos. The frustration built in Basyl. She didn't have the patience to play tag with these damn hounds! She turned slightly to look to the rest of the band, "Watch your backs." she warned and faced the menaces again. The muscles in her hindquarters and shoulders bunched and she launched into action. Basyl barreled towards the dingos, her legs wildly flinging out at them. She could feel a few blows hitting fur, her head ducked and she chased a dingo with the threat of teeth.

Jack|Shaman
Jack grunted as he stepped back, stomping his hooves occasionally at the wild creatures "Lief, tell Bambam to stay near! If he's attacking the others, we wont hit him!" he shouted, trying to be heard over the yapping and growling off the Dingoes. He didn't want anyone to get badly injured during this trip, and that included everyone; familiars and all. Jack let out a hoarse yell as he tried to scare off the dogs, his nostrils flared and his eyebrows drawn down. Jack glanced back as they were being pushed, surrounded by the dogs "We need to push forward!" he yelled, leaping forward and slamming his hooves down, a dingoes leg caught underneath it, the beast letting out a blood curdling screech.
With a yell, Jack leaned down and grabbed the animal by the scruff, using his momentum to lift the dog and fling it at the canyon wall. Jack panted, blood dripping down his face as he kicked at the other dogs "If worst comes to worst, we make a break for it!" he shouted, his throat becoming course as he continued to shout at both his team and the dogs. If things continued like this, they would all be lying in a ditch and bleeding to death.

Aragon flight viciously. The red roan snapped and bared her teeth at the dingos that were creating their own circle around the group of horses. When Aragon heard Jack say the group should push foreword. She looked at the mess that laid in front of them. 'I could knock them out of the way by creating a tornado like structure..' She thought, momentarily distracted, a dingo took its chance and leaped at Aragon grabbing her throat in its jowls. Fear washed over Aragon as she felt the dingo hanging from her neck. Her body reacted before she could think, she jumped up and threw her head from side to side in a desperate attempt to dislodge the animal from her throat. She felt her own blood run down her neck, feeling eerily cool against her skin. She brought up her front legs in a rear and kicked up till her knees repeatedly connected with its body. When the dingo finally listened its grip and let go Aragon took the chance to jump up and plant her hooves into its body. Quickly crippling or killing the beast. She sucked in a breath enjoying the fact she could breathe and looked to the group.
"We need to make a break for it!" She said in a smaller voice than her regular tone. This fight was going down hill fast.

Leif | Serora | Apprentice
Leif's ears swiveled back to the other horses around them and nodded in agreement. A circle would provide enough defense to keep the dogs from attacking their backs, and if their familiars were in the center, they would be able to make sure no dingoes made it into the inside of the circle. "Good idea! Bambam, guard the middle of the circle. Make sure none of them get in." He told his companion who nodded silently, darting into the middle of the circle that they created.
Leif kicked out at the dingoes that came near him, using the strength he had gained from all of the hours of battle training he had put himself through. It was difficult going though, and he could feel his kicks getting weaker and weaker as his energy began to deplete. With each passing moment, the dingoes seemed to be getting stronger and bolder, knowing that they were wearing out the young colt and the rest of the horses around him. He was the smallest out of everyone though, and it would be a lot easier to take him down than any of the other larger horse. He could see them trying to figure out ways to finish this and earn their meal, and Leif's legs shook with exhaustion.
When Jack and Aragon suggested that they should make a break for it, Leif nodded hesitantly. He wasn't normally one for giving up or running away, but he didn't want to see any of their party getting injured or worse. "I think that might be a good idea. If they haven't run away yet, they're just going to try to tire us out until they can take one of us down." Leif explained, having seen how Bambam hunts in the past. Dingoes like other canines were opportunistic hunters, and it would only be a matter of time before they got the opportunity to take one of them down for good.

Basyl | Fleet Foot
Blood was oozing down her front legs and her lungs straining to suck air in. Today was going just terrifically. Basyl slapped hooves after another dingo, but it only dodged away only to slink back in. Her bobbed tail wiggled in frustration, this had to end soon or one of them would end up seriously hurt, "We need to make a break for it or kill them all now." she snorted, as she threw another sharp hoof out to the face of a dingo, it made contact but the strike wasn't hard enough to kill the beast, just would it's eye. Payback for the cuts on her legs, she figured. Basyl cast a glance over to her comrades, Aragon was profusely bleeding from where she had been bitten on the neck and the others didn't seem to be fairing all the greatly either. Run. Basyl decided suddenly. They were all too worn and wounded to kill all the hounds that accosted them, "Jack!" she called as she shirked off another attack with a sharp hoof, "Do we head back the way we came or do we go deeper into the canyon?" she asked, backing in closer to the older horse.

Jack|Shaman
Curse this
With the words of his teammates in his mind,Jack lifted his head high and looked at the other horses "Run into the canyon! We'll circle back once we lose them!" he shouted, his words echoing loudly off the canyon walls. With a deep breath, Jack reared slightly before charging forward at the dogs, causing them to scramble out of the way, opening a path for the others horses "Stay close!" he shouted, pounding his legs hard against the ground as he raced past the dogs, some turning to follow the others. They couldn't keep this up for long, but hopefully they could outrace the dingoes and have them loose interest.
Alya give me strength, Jack thought as he ran hard, his heart beating loud in his ear. The canyon walls were still high above their head, the layers of rock blurring together as Jack ran, his world a blur. In an odd sense, running through the canyons brought memories from his childhood to the surface of his mind, remembering the days of hiss youth when he would run about Osula and the surrounding area. Was this the end for them? Why would such memories arise at a time like this!?
Jack shook his head and charged forward, snaking his way along the narrowing canyon paths. It was getting tight now, Jack estimating that two horses would barely be able to run side by side. He prayed that the canyon wouldn't narrow any more...
and just as he prayed, the walls suddenly curved away from them, branching out. Jack was thankful...until he noticed the ledge. With a gasp, he desperately tried to stop his movements, digging his hooves into the hard earth, but-
The ground was gone from under his hooves, his heart fluttering...and for a moment he felt as if he could fly, the wind gently tangling through his jet black hair. And then he was sent back to Earth, his hooves colliding with the ground. The hill had looked a lot more menacing when Jack had spotted it in front of him, but now he had to try and keep up as his momentum increased, his hooves skidding along the hill. But all it took was one lone rock to trip up Jack, a gasp ripped from his throat as he fell, tumbling down the hill. He gritted his teeth, praying that his legs would be intact when he finally stopped.
With one last tumble, Jack finally stopped at the bottom of the hill on his side, his breathing ragged. He slowly opened his eyes and lifted his head, looking around. It was...a meteor crater that he had fallen into, the rock that had made the impact all but gone. Jack was sincerely glad that the crater hadn't been deeper, for he would be standing with his father and alya if it had been. With a panic, Jack jumped up, looking back at where he had fallen. He prayed that his comrades would be able to stop and safely come down the crater wall.
