In retrospect, this was probably wasn't one of Ida's best ideas.
Travelling alone to visit one of the vindicator safe houses just beyond the War Lord's Road wasn't usually a big deal. As an experienced soldier, she knew the safest route to take without being spotted by raiders. Ida had taken the journey so many times she could do it with her eyes closed. Or maybe not, she began to realize, as the blizzard only seemed to get worse with every step she took. It was a complete whiteout, and Ida could barely see her nose in front of her let alone where she was going. As much as she hated to admit it, she was completely lost.
It wasn't as if she could stop moving though- Ida knew enough as an Onean native that stopping in the middle of a snowstorm was a death sentence. At least keeping her blood pumping would prevent herself from freezing. But the wind continued to howl deafeningly through her ears and straight down to her bones and she began to wonder if her fate would be to become a snowbank. It was far from uncommon in Onea, through Ida figured it would be a rather embarrassing way for her to die.
The cold began to numb her legs first, and so she dragged them through the snow instead. While most likely a sign of frostbite, it was because of this that her hoof caught on something hard. With a soft 'whump' she tumbled into the stinging snow. As she struggled to stand, her hooves scraped away the top layer of snow to reveal... a pathway? "Thank the gods!" Ida thought; she had found the War Lord's Road! "Perhaps I could find the safe house with my eyes closed." Ida stood up. If only she could follow this path, then perhaps she could find a building along the road. Or another horse. Whatever the case, it would boost her chances of getting out of this mess.
