Marshal | Raider
There came a scratching from the door, followed by a rush of cold air and in entered a bloodied snow leopard. The animal didn't appear to be injured, but seeing the favored familiar of the Valkyries make such an appearance pulled the old raider out of the calm. First, Addeva moved as if on a mission. Marshal had only just gotten to the shelf where he placed his crossbow by the time the zonkey was out the door. Oh, for the love of Kaia. Quickly following suit was another Valkyrie, Amber, and... Lorencio? Oh. Fuck. He must have summoned up all remaining youth he had as he turned on his haunch and blazed a path toward the door.
"Lorencio! Get back here!" He shouted out the door. No answer. Ok. He turned to the remaining Valkyries. "Watch them, please." He wasn't sure how well that would stick. The familiar of one of their fellows just showed up a mess and two already left, plus a child. "I'm going to get Lorencio back here." He wasn't leaving for long, hopefully. Just enough to grab the child and throw his ass back in the fortress. He turned to the War Lord's children.
"Keep ya behinds planted."
And with that said he raced into the snow, keeping his head low to follow the tracks of the others. The old raider couldn't tell if it was the rest he had taken or his golden days blessing him with the speed he once had, but it wasn't long before he could pick out Amber, Lorencio, and Scorch up ahead. He slowed back on his snow plowing and shouted through the storm. If he could get the child back before he found something interesting, this would be easy. "Lorencio! Fortress! Now!" Keep it short. Keep it quick. Just turn your scrawny ass around and Come Back.

L O R E N C I O "Innocence is like polished armor - it adorns and defends." ......
Lorencio jumped at the sight of the pit in the road. From the sounds he could hear, there were horses trapped inside. Ears twitching at the noises he jumped forward, trying to look in the pit and see what was going on, but he couldn't get past the other horses standing at the edge of the pit. Frustrated, he backed up a few paces just in time to hear shouts from behind him. What was happening now?
He turned around to see the big stallion galloping up, a big crossbow held at his side. He looked pretty mad.
"Lorencio! Fortress! Now!" He shouted, glaring at Lorencio, who flattened his ears and looked right back. He didn't glare, that would be disrespectful. But he didn't drop his eyes, either.
"I want to help." He didn't mean to sound as petulant as he did. He'd come out here to help, and he was sure he could, if only Marshall would let him! Scorch could go back, though. She might get in the way, and he couldn't trust her to sit where he told her too if she saw other people getting excited. Marshall had a point, and maybe he didn't realize that this wasn't the first time Lorencio had been in a situation like this. He knew it was unusual for a horse his age, and he understood why adults would be worried, but he could handle it. "I know it's dangerous. I want to help."

Amber
War-forged | Valkyrie
Amber did her best to keep up with the younger valkyrie, annoyed by her lack of response, but sympathic to the reason why. Their sisters might be in danger and it was difficult not to want to rush in to help, even if they did not know what they were rushing into. She was annoyed when the raider joined the fray, but calmed down a bit as he adressed Lorencio. Sure, let him babysit so they could concentrate on other things.
Amber moved to walk behind Addeva, perserving energy by using the path the donkey had already cleared. There was no use in using up all her energy before even arriving. Soon enough they reached a spot where they could see other equines gathered, judging my Addeva’s reaction, the ones they were looking for. Amber trudged passed them and has her eyes widen as she saw the wounded mares below, heart speeding up as she saw the blood. Addeva was already moving to try and pull them out, but Amber, quickly assesing the situation, had another plan.
Stepping forward she surveyed the edge of the pit. “Everyone, please stand back,” she said, not quite commanding but more coaxing. Hmmm, maybe those books she had been reading were paying off. She needed some work space. Drawing on the cold already around her, she called on her blessing, gathering the quickly falling snow together and as it became ice, pushed it forward to form steps all the way from the bottom of the pit to the top. They were crude, not elegant at all, but they would get the job done. She made sure not to make the ice too dense, smooth ice far too slippery.
“Quick,” she said, concentrating on keeping the makeshift stairs together. “Get them out before this thing gives.”

Playing chase with her brother and new spotty friend was the greatest game ever until the door flew open and everyone went quiet.
She stopped suddenly, frozen in place at the sight of the bloodied big cat. The bear pelt slowly slid off of her.
Everyone was suddenly leaving in a rush. No one was watching them anymore. No one was smiling. Some uneasy feeling rolled around in her belly.
The spotty friend lurched out the door with everyone else. The old gray stallion was shouting. He looked back to Anika and Grigori.
"Keep ya behinds planted."
Scared and wide-eyed, and suddenly not in the mood to be silly anymore, Anika plopped her rump on the floor. It suddenly didn't feel safe or warm or cozy in here anymore, even though the big fire crackled not too far away.
In her nervousness, she leaned over and started chewing the fur on Grigori's back. She wished she had her own long hairs to chew, but being near her brother was the only good and nice thing right now, so she didn't mind. She pressed her body close to him and nibbled furiously. // Anika for this chapter : )

"Hey! What if we can get the soft dirt to pile up and make some short of little slope with these wooden spears?"
“That… could be doable. The only problem is finding enough soft dirt when the ground is this fro—”
"If you guys get up, can you use my back as a stepping stool?"
"Noble offer, Hot Stuff, and I mean no offense to your strength, but you can hardly hold yourself up, much less another horse. Not with that leg."
Alyshia groaned. They were talking in circles again.
Delta whistled out a signal, and the dappled mare could only sigh as she wished someone were around to hear it. Godsdamn, the night was wearing her thin—
Yoowwwl!
Startled, the Valkyrie immediately swung into battle stance, whipping out her sword as she turned to face whatever wild animal had decided to test her patience today... but faltered as a familiar spotted pelt rushed to close the distance between them.
“Poofkin,” Aly murmured under her breath in relief. It was then that she noticed the figures running close behind the snow leopard, their forms hazy in the worsening weather. Thank Kaia, she wasn’t alone!
Wait, was that—
“Addeva?!”
"Alyshia! Delta!"
Aly returned the shoulder bump in kind. “Thank the gods, we really found ourselves in a bind this time. Who else is with you?”
Her question seemed to go unheard as the zonkey found her injured companions, her own voice faltering at the sight. However, Addy wasn’t one to dawdle, and she immediately put herself to use through her blessing and the pelt on her back. Alyshia made to help her, but both were outshined when Amber entered the scene.
The appaloosa didn’t care how crude those icy stairs looked; to her, they were the most beautiful thing she’d seen all night. The Valkyrie descended into the pit without another thought, speaking to the nearest injured equine; Clementine. Delta slid in after her, making a beeline for the still-impaled kirin. Aly wished her the best of luck getting him out.
“Alright, Clem, let’s get you out of here. Come on, up we go. You can lean on me. There are others down here!” she called back over her shoulder. “All are alive but injured and will need help getting out!”
And—oh, sh*t, Avocado. Did she just pass out?
Yep.
She was out cold.
Sh*tsh*tsh*tsh*tsh*tsh*tsh*t—
“If someone can take Clementine I can carry Ava. Let’s get everyone out of this hell-hole as quickly as possible!”
As soon as another volunteer made their way into the pit, Alyshia moved onto the listless unicorn, kneeling down and using her teke to slide her onto her back. As soon as she was secured and Aly’s bear pelt tucked over her, the appaloosa carefully climbed back up Amber’s steps, giving her sister-in-arm a grateful nod in passing.
