The events of celebration and prayer had carried on throughout Sedo and wider Serora for a many days and nights. Embryss had made a few obligatory appearances to her family and closest friends but for the majority; she spent in solitude. Some nights prior, if an on-looker were to observe the stars they might have seen something truly marvellous; the birth of a new constellation – A dual pair of wings, those most notably depicted on the goddess Alya. It was for Serora, for Alya’s chosen and Embryss’s family and peoples. This was her doing and was Embryss’s gift and sigil for the enduring months to come.
The build-ups to this moment raced through the mare’s mind as she awaited atop a non-descript mesa on the outskirts of Sedo. Embryss always had a strong sense of direction and purpose and her moral compass was often due north. But now? Someone had placed a magnet on its surface and the mare had never felt more adrift. She stood at council-meetings with conviction and had rallied cries and voices to support the Seroran-Talorian cause…but deep down, nobody, not even herself wanted war. Who knew what secrets the Talori held. She had steered her people blindly into a void and she had felt backed into a corner the moment she stepped into the role; resist help and perish. Accept help and still lose precious Seroran lives. Why should she, the council or sultan have a say in life, such a precious thing?
At every turn she felt a failure. War-Forged. The absence of Alya. A nation divided. ”Oh my heart where have your colours gone?” she would cry. It had all happened so fast and for both Embryss and Nafisa – it had caused them adrift. Gods, Embryss loved Nafisa, but every day they saw each other was painful. The absence of Alya and the cries of the people drove them apart. War was coming and Embryss was floating – she needed to say things to Nafisa lest they never have another chance. So there Embryss stood on the eve of battle, waiting for a love lost. No matter what had occurred between them, she would always love her, and Embryss needed her to know that.
If there was ever one closer to Alya it was Nafisa, perhaps her guidance would help her.

NAFISA The fire in my woods, burns me and nobody else word count: 348 | reference | sobs violently ➵➵➵ The festival had only momentarily distracted Nafisa, she was bound to being there, to show support to a herd she intentionally drove to a temporary drift. But that was weeks ago it seemed, Serorans are a family and like all families they reconcile and reunite, and so they did. They showed their love in the form of a festival, headed by their newly elected sultan. Nafisa’s presence was there but fleeting, she would engage in short, playful conversations but she would not keep in one place for too long. The whole ordeal felt wrong to her, the celebration felt like a quick solution to the issue at hand and Nafisa was distraught. However there was one saving grace to this affair, she was to meet the other half of her heart here. Embryss was much stronger than she, she always had been, there was no hesitation when Nafisa was asked to meet her once again. It had been so long since Nafisa felt a moment of peace or of privacy. A moment where she could ignore the world and focus on her heart for even the shortest second. Perhaps this meeting would allow Nafisa to apologize as well, as she had not honored her lost love during the final moments of their relationship. It was in Nafisa’s nature to turn to her goddess but she should not have turned her back to Embryss; not during the most tempestuous times. So she followed the trail to Embryss, quietly greeted by the night sky filled with the tapestry artfully crafted by darker mare, even when she was not near Nafisa her presence filled the Mullah with such powerful pride and love. Finally she found herself behind Embryss, Nafisa’s crimson eyes humbly casting away from her form “ Embryss…” she said softly, the sort of soft that nearly blended with the faint sounds of the festival behind them. Nafisa never recovered from the butterflies that Embryss gave her, they fluttered within her and she felt her heart pounding in her ribcage. “ I’ve… missed you greatly” she spoke again, this time more confidently.

Soft words floated on the breeze and adjoined with the distant muffled chatter, but Embryss could pluck such words from any crowd. “I’ve missed you greatly”. Embryss turned to face Nafisa, her piercing crimson eyes stood out like stars as they caught the faint starlight. Embryss sighed, smiling and walked towards her. She could spin and halt on a dime as her heart thumped harder the closer she got to Nafisa - but she did not falter. Once they were close she smiled and gave the mare a welcome. “I’ve missed you too.” Embryss spoke. Embryss wanted to be closer to her – and even though they stood a breath apart she felt miles from the safety of the shore. Embryss’s thoughts babbled through their life, meandering past passion and romance. She thought back to the council room with her brother in law and the Talorian princes. How Fi spoke her mind and passion against the two rulers. Gods she admired her. She wanted to embrace her, but she knew it would only pain them more.
“Fi…I don’t even know where to start, I don’t even know the beginning when I cant tell what is up” The words collapsed out of her mouth, gathering momentum like a rockslide. “I have never felt more lost, after the meeting and us….” Embryss halted her words and took a deep breath. It was this sort of self-centeredness that Fi did not need right now. “I’m sorry……..How have you been since Alyas migration and the meeting with the Sultan?” Embryss looked to the skies and her recently crafted star-map. Her mind drifted to the thought of making her own map so Alya could find her peoples again. The faint glow in the distance and the chorus of voices in prayer – the fact that Fi was not there instigating prayer had spoken millions. Her own golden eyes gazed back to Fi’s; she was lost too.
“Day by day my vision of Alya fades. My memory of her raw power wanes and the stardust fades in my veins. My people may cry and suffer no matter the season but Alya has always been a constant. Until now. I’m worried about you….” Embryss paused and looked at her, apologetically,
“I miss you like crazy.”

NAFISA THE FIRE IN MY WOODS, BURNS ME AND NOBODY ELSE word count: 324| reference | ooc message goes here➵➵➵ She couldn’t help but to conjure up a small smile, Embryss’s concern for Nafisa was endearing. However the dark mares final words dragged a chill up the Mullah’s spine “ I miss you like crazy”. Those words put Nafisa to shame, whatever thoughts she was premeditating all but evaporated, she couldn’t do anything but look away. She missed her too, she missed everything about Embryss and gods did her mortal soul ache for everything they had. But she couldn’t miss a beat, returning her gaze to Embryss she gently pressed her nose to the mares cheek and whispered “ I miss you too.” Nafisa backed off after that, she had to regain composure and fast. Recalling what Embryss had just said the Mullah tried to answer her in some way, she could at least do that “ I have felt her absence as well--as we all have--but it is in our very lifeblood to survive and until she returns we must try” the words felt strange, almost like a lecture but she was a Mullah after all and speaking on behalf of the Goddess was her divine duty. She was unsure whether to mention her dreams… perhaps not now, there was more to discuss between the two. “ Embryss if there is anything I want you to know” she was serious now, “ is that you are not lost, you are still a child of Her stars and you always will be. That is a tie that will not ever be severed,” she tried to gauge Embryss’s response but hastily continued “ I… I know we will bring her back and I know everything to come will bring peace...” she was still avoiding something in her words. Nafisa wanted so badly to tell her now, to soothe her former lover's pain, to reassure her that they would be free of every sin committed by someone else. She wanted so badly to just tell her “I’m so sorry Embryss… for everything”

The mare quivered at Nafisa's touch and Embryss did her best to pull herself from the swirl and regain composure. So much had happened between them, and both had grown a lot since they first met. Embryss listened intently to her words of survival and Alya's connection. Oh how she wished it were so and she felt as upbeat as Nafisa did. If there was one thing that was always heightened within Embryss, it was her intuition. Something seemed strange in Fi, but she couldn't quite put her hoof on it. Perhaps it is nothing her thoughts echoed. Embryss's eyes gazed down the canyon to the faint lights of the celebrations and smiled "We always were tough eggs. I doubt any of us, much like Alya, would ever take no for an answer".
Embryss could smell the war-march on the horizon, at least from the depths of her mind. It rattled her to the core. Perhaps any moment Alya would land between the war marches and smite all that dared harm her lands and people. She couldn't help but see the sands washed in blood and her nightmares of her loved ones harmed, captured or killed kept her awake at night. If any ill thoughts or issues needed to be settled, now was the time.
“I’m so sorry Embryss… for everything”
Her breath left her body, choking on the void for a few short moments, before her eyes glassed over. "We had our callings and we weren't....strong enough. To fight through. Its my biggest regret. It's why I worry. Do I have what it takes for the next few months." She took a deep breath and looked back to her, tears still running "I am so sorry too. I should have kept my focus with you. Alongside you. We could have built stronger through it.....but I didn't. I ran. Whatever happens to you or me...I don't want any more bad blood between us. I love you...I....I always will." Embryss sighed. Oh how she wished things were back to how they were. Maybe there was still hope for them? She had never seemed as resistant to change as she was right now.
Change. Perhaps that was all they needed?
"How do you do it, How do you still look ahead?"

NAFISA lyrics go here word count: 464| reference | HERE IT COMES➵➵➵ She felt a constriction around her throat, there was no proper emotion to convey how her heart broke each time a tear fell from Embryss’s eyes. Nafisa inhaled sharply, her own eyes welling up but she had to hold them back no matter how close they were to falling . “I am so sorry too. I should have kept my focus with you. Alongside you. We could have built stronger through it.....but I didn't. I ran. Whatever happens to you or me...I don't want any more bad blood between us. I love you...I.... I always will” Nafisa recoiled, she loved her too, she loved her so so much, but she also ran. The golden mare ran away from her and they had never quite reconciled properly and now seemed the perfect time. “I love you too Embryss , even when we were so far apart I loved you…” she felt a tear run down her cheek, she didn’t care anymore she wanted her love to be known. Nafisa had many regrets in her life, many times she wished she could do over but gods, she wanted to change how she had ended things with Embryss and now she was given the chance. There was little to no time left with the illusion of peace, Serora inches towards the war and Nafisa had little time to repent for her past “You and I did our best…” she wasn’t quite sure how to continue “I am glad… that you and I have shared the experiences that we did, there is no other soul that I would have rather been with than you” that seemed okay, she thought. But words kept inching on her tongue and she felt there was so much more to say. But before she could she was grateful for Embryss’s next question. “How do you do it, how do you still look ahead?” The mullah collected herself again, she had to, with a soft smile she looked at Embryss “I have come in contact with someone who may be able to help us” she sounded confident. “It’s a long story, if you have the time. But I feel close to a solution that will benefit our people” she continued, the names she was going to reveal made her wary but she trusted Embryss , she trusted that she would listen to the entirety of her story. Sure the cultists had briefly encroached on the seroran land and left a strange taste on the folk’s tongues but they were outliers, the extremists. Digends name was no curse, if anything his name was akin to a patron deity of change to some serorans . But Nafisa pondered too long on this, the only way to determine her companion's reaction was to tell her honestly and confidently.

“Alya’s wings guide us
Alyas wind leads.
We thankyou mother Alya,
For the stars, skies and breeze.”
The chorus of childhood laughter and repetition echoed in the back of Embryss’s mind. Any Seroran would have known this, one of many small chants and poems that the children would be taught by their parents. It was during the hard times, the droughts and storms that Seroran’s of all ages could be drawn together within the safety of each verse. Even now and before, through all of her journeys to Onea and back, Embryss would catch herself muttering the words. They seemed to fill her heart with hearthfire, spirit and hope.
But now? The words had lost all meaning.
She clung to the moment she and Nafisa shared, it was all that had ever made sense, especially now. Embryss wondered what would come of them. It was easy for her to be swept up in feelings and perhaps that was what had brought them undone in the past. Embryss let Fi’s words settle, and the moment swirl to a calm. “It’s a long story, if you have the time. But I feel close to a solution that will benefit our people” Fi remarked. Embryss’s ears pricked forward. She pondered for a moment, thinking on what she meant. Sure, the Talorian alliance was risky, but surely there was no better solution than it?
Embryss looked back to Fi, a puzzled and inquisitive gaze. Had the councilor overlooked all the options available? “I always have the time Fi….What have you learnt?”. A sudden shiver ran down her back, either Embryss had been blinkered by the treaty and had not seen another option? Or was there something far more sinister at play. Surely….not? A faithful Mullah’s word was obviously the most true…
