Iyasu
Iyasu continued at a trot through the streets of Nariah, his expression open and calm as he made sure to avoid running into others while he traveled. However, an occasional ear or tail twitch betrayed the slight nervousness that was swirling in his chest. His day had started with his normal schedule. Get up, get ready, go to the temple, go back home, set up shop, make any medicine necessary for pickup, read, and wait for patients. One horse had soon come in to pick up the salve they needed shortly after he had settled. After giving them the prepared mixture and visiting for awhile, they had left and he was back to waiting for another patient. However, today he got much more than just another patient. He received a summons from Doev, a King's Guide, for a meeting with Prince Yoru. Doev had not elaborated much on the reason his presence was requested, only that his services were required as soon as possible. Now he was glad he had no patients staying in his home at the time. He made sure his little "office" was closed properly before leaving, and hanging a sign on the door. He hoped no one in need of urgent medical attention stopped by, but he knew that other healers could help in his absence.
He hoped he wasn't taking too long to get to the palace. It was times like these that he regretted not being incredibly fast. But soon the palace gates were in view and he slowed to a brisk walk. A guard stepped forward, and Iyasu immediately bowed. “What is your business at the palace?” “I have been summoned.” He stood up, producing the stamped note, which shimmered the blue of his teke around the edges. The guard gave a quick nod. “Follow me please.” As the pair traveled Iyasu allowed himself to be absorbed by his thoughts. A healer like himself meeting a member of the royal family seemed almost unreal. He had only been running his practice for a short time. He had a couple regular clients, but the majority of his clientele was comprised of one time patients for small remedies. He was happy that he was able to help anyone with his work though, no matter who they were. He hoped he could now. “Here we are.” Iyasu was pulled from his thoughts by the guard’s words. He was standing to the side with the door open. “Thank you.” Iyasu gave a quick bow, before stepping into the home. The guard shut the door behind him, and Iyasu immediately began looking around for the reason he was summoned.

It had all started the day before. Hooves paced the small room, breathing hard as pain forced sweat to glisten over his hide. The day had been great. Gemstone was such an adorable filly. Doing all she could to help him, to spend time with him. Treating him like any other equine and not someone special. He had shared with her some of his favorite fruit, a thing the young colt would have never done before this. But the resonating hit and fall that had started their friendship had caused the royal pegasus a night of agony. Doev had done all he could to sooth the little one but even he was not protected from the lashes of anger the colt spewed from his mouth.
Doev knew the colt meant none of it, and chuckled softly at some of the phrases and words that spilled from his gritted teeth. A warm blanket had been laid over his form and a cold damp one over the wing. After many hours of pacing, Yoru had eventually collapsed on the floor, letting the kings guide read to him all night. The pain wouldn't let him sleep and sure enough, with tears coating his face, the larger male rose and left him to tend to his duties as a guide. Yoru was left behind, assured that someone would come soon to help him.
True to his guardian's words, the door opened and Yoru shielded himself from the brightness of the outside against a knee. When the door closed he looked up to see a dark colored horse. Nothing pretty or special about them. The young colt felt some of the uneasiness from the unknown bleed away. With a small breath he turned his head and rested his chin back on the floor. The home was dark but lit by a fire. Yoru was sprawled out in front of it, each wing stretched wide and blankets covering them. Dual colored eyes looked up at the new 'guest' and he swallowed hard. "Y-you must be the healer..." Words where pushed out in clearly a pained way. He was not doing well. "M-my wing hurts... C-can you help me?" To the left of the door would be a table with a couple stone statues on it's surface. Tucked under one of the bases would be a white envelope that had Iyasu's name scrawled on the front of it. Clearly it was a note left by the guide to go over basics with the young royal. Wither Iyasu read it or not was up to him.Iyasu, The boy’s name is Yoru. You will notice he seems to be in a great deal of pain—his right wing is the issue. It has been broken for some time. With consideration for his worsening condition and his usual healer on leave, I have commissioned you for treatment. However, I must express some ground rules:
~Be calm and patient with the boy. He is sensitive, and does not fare well with harsh commands.
~Under no circumstances are you to bring how he injured his wing into question. He will shut down on you and not recover for days. Do not do it.
~There are additional supplies in the washroom should you require them and the kitchen is well stocked. You’re welcome to whatever you need. I’ve left a kettle on the fire; should Yoru prove too nervy for you, make him some jasmine tea with rose hips. He’ll settle down.
Take care of him, and please notify me in regards to any concerns or accomplishments once you’re finished. Thank you for caring for my boy.
—Doev

Iyasu
Iyasu noticed the colt soon enough upon entering the room. The poor boy was spread out on the floor, and with a quick look over his form Iyasu could see his labored breathing almost immediately. His compassion kicked in very quickly, and the fact he was in a palace or with royalty quickly became a distant thought. The goal now was to help the injured pegasus in front of him, any way he could. “Yes, I am a healer. My name is Iyasu.” He smiled kindly. “We will see what we can do about that wing alright?” Thankfully he had worked on pegasus patients in his apprenticeship, and had read much on the theory and practice outside of that. Taking a step forward he noticed the envelope on the table, seeing his name neatly written on the cover. “I suppose Doev might have something to say about your condition?” He quietly mused. He pulled the envelope from under the base of the statue. “Just one moment. I want to see what he says.” Iyasu quickly opened the envelope and read over the contents. On the first point he would have had no issue, he always endeavored to be calm and quiet with his patients, but the other two points he was told were much appreciated. “Doev let me know where to find supplies if I need them, which is good.” He told Yoru, only saying enough, as he put the note away and back on the table.
Iyasu walked calmly toward Yoru. “Are you able to tell me anything about your current condition Yoru? You may write it if you do not want to speak okay?” He carefully knelt down near the boy, making sure to not crowd into his space, speaking softly. “I am going to start taking a look though, alright? I want to get an idea of what I’m working with so I can treat it properly. Let me know if I need to stop, or if you are uncomfortable with what I am doing at any point. We can always take a break.” He then started slowly and gently feeling out the the muscle and bone in Yoru’s wings with his teke, making sure to give Yoru ample opportunity to cut in if needed. He made sure he applied only minimal pressure, since there was no point in making the pain any more unbearable than it was already.

The healer was polite and calm. Exactly what Yoru needed. The air in the room seemed to still and relax as the young prince realized this. Swallowing hard he nodded. "I-I'm Yoru..." He whispered through the strain of the pain and waited for the healer to come close. "Ok..." A sniffle was pushed forward, wiping his face on his knee and tried to hide the tears that escaped. It was all too much. He hated this so much...
Giving the healer the time he required, Yoru tried to be silent. He personally did not like it when others talked at him while he was reading so he tried to pass on that same courtesy for others. As the note was folded and put away, the light blue eye watched the other finally approach. Though he was not the healer and had learned to not micromanage when it came to his wing. Each healer treated it slightly different then the last, so finding that one that could make an honest difference was something the young royal and the king's guide had been working on for so long.
Watching him kneel, Yoru whimpered and covered his face with a leg. "I-I fell on it yesterday... I-I ran into someone and-And I fell on my side. I-I had her help me stretch it to stop the muscle spasms but... I-It really hurts today..." Though as the other kept talking the young mostly black colt tensed. Breathing hard through his nose, he tried to not panic. It was so hard not too. Iyasu would find that his left wing was perfect, muscles strong and bones with no breakage. A model wing.
The right one was a disaster. Bones where in the wrong place, flattened and shattered. Muscle had tried to regrow and his tendons where clearly strained. It was almost as if someone had put massive amounts of pressure on it and didn't let up even after the bones snapped. It was clear after whatever had initially happened the proper care had not been taken and it had tried to heal all wrong. As the teke happened over a rather sore, tender spot, the colt jolted and yelped. "S-stop! P-please..." He shook, large tears falling again.

Iyasu
Iyasu only gave a cursory check to Yoru’s healthy wing, in order to gain a baseline for his bone structure. He nodded lightly as he listened to Yoru explain what had happened the previous day to cause him pain, brow only pinching momentarily as he got an idea of the full injury to the colt’s right wing. He made sure to keep a calm focus on what he was feeling through his teke, not wanting to upset the colt any further. This had definitely been a serious injury, and definitely while he was younger based on the way the wing had tried to grow afterward. Though perhaps not as far back as he may have thought, by how it is affecting him. Doev’s mention of Yoru’s reaction to inquiries about the origin of the injury concerned him as well, and made him ache with sadness that Yoru had likely gone through a very painful experience. However, that wasn’t what he needed to be concerned about at the moment. He needed to be focused on seeing how to settle the current pain the boy was in, and he was starting to get an idea of what he could do when Yoru cried out. Iyasu stopped immediately, his teke disappearing in an instant. “Shh.” He made sure to relax his posture, hoping to make the boy relax too. “It’s alright Yoru. We can stop. Just breath.” He wanted to reach out to the boy in comfort, but as he didn’t know how Yoru felt about contact he only touched his foreleg to Yoru’s briefly to try and convey his understanding before he just took a moment to breath with the colt. “I think I know enough to move forward with a treatment today.” He smiled at the colt. “But would you like something to drink before we continue? Perhaps some tea?” He tilted his head slightly. “It should help you feel better.”

The pain seemed to sting and shift, feeling the pressure leave instantly. Yoru sagged onto the floor, tears falling as he tried hard not to fall into a fit of sobs. Iyasu was one of the gentlest so far and one that seemed to actually show genuine concern. Panting, the young prince lifted his head and nodded. Breathing deeply, in time with the healer, Yoru's gasping pain soon calmed, lending to soft controlled breaths. At the offer of Tea the colts ears flickered forward and he nodded once more. "Y-yes please..." Knowing exactly which Tea it was.
The kettle was easy to use. There was leaves already steeping inside with small roses scattered about. Setting the metal handle on the iron rod hanging above the fire would set the water inside a bubbling. It wouldn't be long before steam was escaping out the top. A quiet whistle was all that alerted them that the water was boiling. A tray of cup was set off to the side, decorated in soft whites with pastel pink flowers cascading around the edges. Another was of lines flowing to resemble water against the crisp white background. They where smaller then a normal tea cup bu it was obvious this tea was not meant to be guzzled like water on a hot cave day.
When offered his cup, the young royal held it in his amber teke and sipped gently from its rim. Within moments the youth was calmer then before.

Iyasu
Iyasu was pleased to see Yoru calm down after completing the breathing exercises with him, and even more pleased by the excitement the colt showed at the mention of tea. Iyasu knew that mental health was just as important as physical health, and wanted to make sure he could work some with Yoru during this visit. Even if it was only through cultivating a calm environment this once. He nodded in response to the boy’s response. “Then we shall get that started then.” Using his sapphire blue teke Iyasu lifted the pot Doev had left ready onto the rod hanging in the fire. “There. Now we just need to wait.” He looked back at the young royal. “Let us continue breathing until the tea is ready. Meditation can be good for settling pain, and is good for mind and body.” He smiled again, taking the time to relax and assess the boy visually. He didn’t stare, but gave more of a cursory examination. Yoru seemed to be more relaxed, and the injury did not seem to physically be affecting him anywhere else, which was good. The underlying injury of his wing may be difficult to treat long term, but his current pain was more connected with the muscles and tendons having been aggravated. He had some simple solutions they could do today with what he had available thankfully, and should get rid of most if not all of the colt’s pain. Iyasu wanted nothing more than to help Yoru. He heard the soft whistle of the teapot. He turned and lifted the tray a little closer to them, before taking the pot out of the fire to pour the tea into the beautiful mismatched cups on the tray. He set the pot down and turned to Yoru. “There we are. All ready.” He watched the boy take his cup and take a sip, before he took a sip himself. He closely watched through half closed eyelids as the boy became even calmer almost immediately. After a few moments of calm, Iyasu decided to speak once more. “Well Yoru. In simple terms it seems your muscles and tendons are still agitated from the fall you had yesterday. You stopped the main spasms, but there is lingering irritation. Nothing too serious, but definitely painful.” He smiled softly. “So I can easily give you some herbs for pain that you can even use in tea, and we can do some hot and cold therapy while I’m here for a bit to see if we can get the area to calm down some.” He set his cup down. “As long as you are alright with that of course. I’ll never force a treatment on you that you do not want.”

This healer was turning out to be a wonderful match for the young royal. Not only was he focused on making sure the pain vanished, but he was taking care of his mind and keeping the young colt calm through out the whole process. Usually with new healers he was a shaking fearful mess. This was not the case at all with Iyasu. After a few more sips, and a couple more coordinated breaths with the larger darker horse, Yoru's dual colored eyes lifted. Ears swiveled forward, giving the healer complete attention.
Absorbing his words, Yoru nodded slowly and set his chin back on the floor, placing his cup down out of the way. "Yes please though... You'll need to leave a list of the herbs you left. So that Doev can look it over." Ears swiveled catching a bit of the fire crackle on the never ending burning logs. "What is... Hot And Cold therapy?" It was words the young one had never heard before. Though tears started to slip again as the pain seemed to thread back through his form. Distraction worked well on him. "It won't hurt much more will it? I-... I'm willing to try anything..." Clearly this pain was one he could not bare much longer.

Iyasu
Iyasu appreciated Yoru’s attention. After the boy was done with his tea Iyasu gently moved their cups onto the tray, before putting it all off to the side once more. He slowly nodded after Yoru’s suggestion. “I'll make sure to leave a list for Doev to look over later, including instructions on the amount if needed.” He smiled softly when he heard the boy's question. “My apologies. I should have explained.” He lightly touched his foreleg to the colt's once more to try and comfort him. “Hot and cold therapy should not hurt any more, as it's similar to what you have been doing.” He used his head to motion to the blankets likely left by Doev. “You use alternating applications of heat and cold in order to sooth pain. Neither temperature is at an extreme though, so it is not dangerous. Cold tends to mildly dull the sense of touch in the application area and lessen the pain, while heat tends to loosen stiffness or soreness in muscles and joints. Together they should help to reduce the irritation that your wing currently has, and to take away the pain you are currently experiencing.” His chest ached a bit at the colt's edge of desperation. This pain was obviously taking a toll, and Iyasu prayed that his treatments would be enough to help. “I'm going to start with a cold application to hopefully dull some of the pain you're experiencing, and then grab some of those herbs as well. Which means I'll be moving around for a little bit okay? Just call if you need me in the interim.” Iyasu stood slowly, trying not to startle the colt. “But can you first point me toward the washroom and the kitchen? I'll use the water, and then possibly some of the herbs from there.”

The small colt watched with large eyes as the other moved slowly. The gentle touches to his foreleg where not forgotten, rather appreciated. Not often where horses willing to actually touch him, and Yoru did not know why. This Royal business made little sense to the colt who had grown up not knowing how important he might or could be. Rather he was whispers of discontent and gossip among the palace and Nariah. He could barely go anywhere without someone knowing who he was...
As the healer slowly stood, the colt nodded, long bangs shifting on the plush carpet before the glow of the fire. Picking up a small brush from beside the fire he used his Teke to point in the directions of the two rooms, since he could not stand. Or did not wish to stand. "The kitchen is just behind me, through the curtains hanging. The bathroom is to the left of me, down the hall. First door." Head laid back down and the brush was gently put back. The pain was starting to creep back so Yoru reached for the cup and sipped what tea was left in his pink flowered item. Legs stretched, feeling the blankets rustle around him. This hot and cold therapy sounded nice right now, especially with the way Iyasu had phrased it.
No one had tried this technique on him before. It would be good to try something new and hopefully it worked...

Iyasu
Iyasu looked to where Yoru pointed, nodding to indicate that he understood. He looked back at the boy and dipped his head slightly. “Thank you.” He saw the colt drink the last of his tea. “I beleive their is some left if you want to brew yourself another cup of tea. I will be back shortly.” With that Iyasu turned and walked first toward the washroom.
This technique should at minimum reduce the boy’s pain, if it did not completely remove the intense pain he was currently experiencing. Yoru seemed like a good kid, and Iyasu really wanted to make him feel better. He made sure to grab two small blankets, and to soak a few small cloths in cool water once he was in the washroom. He then ventured to the kitchen to grab some herbs from their supply. After searching for a minute he found what he needed to supplement the few herbs he had brought with him in a small bundle, and crushed some that were easy to brew like fennel and licorice root. He wanted to use more herbs that had a good flavor in tea to make it easier for Yoru to ingest. Iyasu then made sure to grab a small amount of ice from the little icebox in the kitchen.
He came back carrying the herbs, ice, and wrung out cloths with his teke and had the blankets draped over his back. He knelt down once more near Yoru, carefully laying the herbs on the tray they had used for their tea earlier and laying the blankets close to the fire to start warming up. “We’ll use those for applying heat later.” He explained, smiling. He then placed the ice inside the cool cloths that he held before looking at the colt. “I’m going to place these on different points across the muscles in your wing. They are a bit damp so that they can start cooling until the ice has a chance to start working, okay?” He started slowly and gently placing the cloths, making sure to try and avoid particularly sensitive areas. “I also have some herbs we can brew into tea to help in the interim as well if you want.”

As the healer moved off, Yoru shifted the pot back to the fire and waited. The fire crackled and weaves, splashing him in soft warmth. As the kettle whistled it's need to be removed Yoru did so without any effort and poured himself another glass. Doev always kept his favorite well stocked and ready to go. Something the youth really appreciated. He seemed to sink into himself as Iyasu was absent, feeling the pain threading through the wing and into his shoulder. It was hard to ignore.
Though it was soon that the healer was coming back, kneeling beside him in the firelight. Large red and blue eyes lifted to gaze at the other. He understood the blankets would warm up from the fire, head tipping at the damp clothes he held up. "O-ok..." The small dark colt answered, almost worriedly. Head dropped and he covered his nose with a knee, feeling the weights settle on his wing. Iyasu avoided the really intense spots perfectly. Once the set up was done, Yoru relaxed as it didn't hurt more then that. Another nod and he whimpered. "Y-yes please..." He was a perfect candidate for herbs, his body the right sensitivity for them to work to their fullest extent. As the ice started to seep through the cloth and into the feathers the little colt shivered. "I-I always forget h-how cold Ice r-really is..."

Iyasu
“There we are.” Iyasu murmured once the cold cloths were in place. He was glad that it seemed he had truly avoided the most sensitive areas of the wing. When Yoru gave his assent, he nodded and began preparing the tea, adding the herbs that would compliment the colt’s favorite flavors as best he could as well as one or two herbs that would not hardly affect the flavor. He chuckled mildly at Yoru’s comment, smiling a little. “It is rather chilly isn't it? Luckily that cold should help to numb the pain.” He dropped his voice to a mock whisper. “But it should also make the heat application that much nicer.” He turned his head as the pot began to gently whistle once more. Iyasu took the pot from the rod with ease and turned to pore the water into Yoru’s little flowered cup. “The cloths can be left on for 15 minutes, but since you are not used to the cold I may take them off after only 10 minutes depending on how you feel. If the cold begins to feel painful itself for any reason let me know. Really you can let me know if anything is off, and you are free to ask questions.” He smiled at the colt, offering the cup. “I tried to use the good tasting herbs, so it was nicer to drink.” He shifted the couple of herbs left on the tray. “These are all good for pain though, most with either a good or very mild flavor.” He turned back to the young royal, blue eyes curious. Now that his physical health was being handled, it was time to focus more on mental health again. “This treatment will take a bit since I need to alternate between hot and cold multiple times. Is there something you would like to do in the interim Yoru? We can meditate, talk, or perhaps even read? Whatever you would like to do.” Iyasu smiled, patiently waiting for his answer.

A small shiver scored through the youth as Iyasu whispered. Lips curled up in a small smirk and the tiny colt watched him. This healer was perfect. Yoru knew he had thought that often since the black stallion had entered Doev's home, but it was the truth. He was one of the most gentle, compassionate and knowledgeable healers that had touched him since he had gotten hurt. "W-we can try for 15... It doesn't hurt so much as it is just... Cold." The young royal responded, his head turning towards the male to watch everything he was doing.
As the herbs where added to the Tea he tipped his head, watching the water turn a different color. "I like herbs... Could... You teach me more about them next time?" Head lifted, good wing folding in a bit as the blanket moved over the rest of his body. It was good because he liked to stay warm which is why he stayed in front of the fireplace. When Iyasu spoke again a light brightened in the youths eyes. "Did you want to read a book?" Large ears swiveled forward, all attention now placed on the other equine within the room. Books where one of his favorite pass times. Any chance to read them was a good time in Yoru's mind.

Iyasu
“I would love to teach you more about herbs next time Yoru.” Iyasu was happy about this interest. Once the colt had shifted he used his teke to straighten out a rumpled part of the blanket before looking back at the young royal. He felt he and Yoru were getting along quite well so far. The mention of a next time alone was a good sign of this. He was aware that not all first meetings between patient and healer went well. He had more than one past instance to back that up. Having a good energy resonance between equines was important to him. If a healer did not get along with a patient, it is hard to take care of them and could just be damaging to their mental health in the long run, no matter the outcome with their physical health.
Iyasu smiled at the colt's enthusiastic interest at the mention of reading a book. It seems he had struck upon one of the colt’s interests. “I do enjoy reading quite a bit, though I must admit that the large majority of my reading is texts related to healing. Perhaps I can bring one of my books on herbs for you to read sometime if you would like?” He added, remembering Yoru’s interest in learning about herbs. “I am never one to turn down a good story though. Even the shorter folktales.” He flicked an ear as a log cracked in the fireplace, before pointing them back at the colt once more. “Is there a particular book you would like to read Yoru? I'm assuming by your interest that you like to read as well. I could also read to you if you want, but as always it is your choice.” He smiled as he waited for his reply.

A next time there would be. He was so calm, so relaxed. Doev would be more then happy to know that Iyasu was handling the young royal so well. Yoru was a spirited youngster beneath all the pain and fear and to have gained his trust so quickly, it was a good sign that the dark colored stallion knew what he was doing. Plus the positive energy only made the small pony mix want to see him again. If just to learn about herbs and the different properties they held.
When Iyasu mentioned books, the colts ears leapt forward, head lifting and wings shifting. This was of course a mistake and the young nobility whimpered as pain scored up through the limb. How could he have let himself get so excited? Settling as much as he could, Yoru nodded his head. "Yes please... I would, really like that." With a weak smile he picked up the tea and took a couple long sips, anything to dull the pain once more. Once again the healer mentioned books and Yoru smiled bashfully. "I do... M-my favorites are ones about brave knights and... And about the gods... The stories about Argus make me sad..." The colt whispered, head dropping as his ears pinned back. The fire shifted, flickering beside them as if joining the conversation. "Maybe... Could you read one of the red books? Doev reads from that one all the time. It's filled with many different stories about heros and beasts..."

“Oops.” Iyasu murmured as he carefully shifted the ice back into place after they moved with Yoru’s momentary burst of excitement. “There we are.” He smiled once again at the colt's enthusiasm over the subject of books. Such a topic was likely to distract him easily, and give more time for the cold to numb some of the pain.
“Heroic tales are always exciting to read.” He agreed, before letting out a small sigh. He flicked one ear back momentarily. “The tales of Argus are quite sad.” He looked down briefly, letting a quick prayer pass to the arcane god in his mind, before turning his attention back to the young royal. “The stories for all the gods can be quite sad though, can't they?” He added.
Iyasu listened to the colt’s request and nodded. “Of course I can. Just a moment please.” He smiled, standing once more. It would be easier and a little more efficient to read the spine labels from up close than to try and grab one of the books with his teke from the ground. “Is there a particular one you would like me to grab to read to you? Or just any of the red books?” He took a step toward the bookshelf beside them, knowing that the young royal will give him the answer he needs before he pulls it from the shelf. It would be good to read something for pleasure in the vein of fairytales after his focus on medical texts as of late.

Once the ice pack had settled back on his wing and the soft silence for the gods lifted, Yoru watched with wide expecting eyes. The bookshelf was littered all types of books, ranging from the histories of Briem to tales so wild and farfetched it was surprising someone had written them at all. When Iyasu posed the question, Yoru shifted his body slightly and dipped his head with a firm nod.
"The one with the spine torn at the top and the red fabric peeling at the bottom." Knowing the state of the book was a clear indicator that the young prince knew the book inside and out but it was clearly one of his favorites. Large dual colored eyes watched as the healer plucked it from the shelf and moved back down to the ground beside him. Before he could start though, the dark colt shivered. "Do you think it's been 15 minutes?" The cold was seeping into his body now and small shivers caused the blankets around him to shake softly. But the colt made no move to remove the ice packs or even complain. He was trying to be a good patient after all, since his trust and respect for Iyasu was growing.
