Io │ Screamer │ Serora
Water was one of the handful of things that brought the pegasi comfort and these days it was where she was usually found. The wind goddess who presided over this harsh desert had fallen silent and Io, like most of the Serorans, have felt their faith shaken. Her children were left back at home in the care of Cherche so there was no need for concern. She knew that the young mare was more than capable despite how unruly her little ducklings could be every now and then. Today the scout just needed time for herself, or at least with a friend. Io wasn't alone when she had headed out - similar to when she had insisted to stay that night when her friend's daughter was born. Selora was insistent on keeping her company today, claiming that she needed the quiet, peaceful outing herself as well. Having no energy to argue or the heart to turn her new found friend away Io could only accept. Unfortunately the walk along the river had to be cut short when she felt the strength in her legs slowly ebb away. With light laughter she simply teased that she was out of shape before she found a calm little outlet in the river for a nice soak. The crystal clear pool was shallow enough to have been significantly warmed by the sun so it was a perfect place to relax. A soft sigh of relief escaped her dark lips as she shifted her wings and raised them up in a stretch. The water soothed her aching legs as she plopped down in the shallows, letting her body settle into the soft mixture of red sand and pebbles. But there was something that had been bothering her since she and Selora had headed out on their little outing, so with a deep breath she turned her head towards her friend, ears twitching before perking in her direction. "Sel, is something wrong?" Io asked, her voice gentle but far more softer than usual as if her energy had completely been drained away. "You have that look on your face."

Selora It was a lovely day for a walk. Though it was terribly hot under the Sedan as always, Selora enjoyed the weather nonetheless. She had slowly been getting used to the heat again - of course, right before she must leave for the shores of Aquore. Though she had not a need for complaint, she was quite happy to be returning. Yet something could be said for the friends she had connected with in the few short months she had been in her home country. Selora has insisted on joining Io that morning for a walk along the river. Something deep within her spirit had told her to go - and she listened. By the Wave Mother’s sweet graces, she listened. She had woken up that morning, blood dripping from her nostril as she found herself drained of energy, and a cold sweat chilling her to the bone. She unmistakably had a vision in the night - a cursed dream that was most definitely the result of her newfound blessing, which had grown stronger all too quickly for her body to handle. She had woken up in a cold sweat every night for nearly three weeks, and she had good reason. Something was wrong, something was very wrong. Even as she had walked quietly beside her new friend along the river's edge, something felt unshakably off kilter. She had not noticed how quiet her own voice had been in conversation until Io was growing weak suddenly, covering it up with light jokes and quiet laughter. She had slipped into the waters in a small cove they had happened upon, and Selora stepped into the water, her vision from the previous night eating away at her. She had seen Io with eyes open wide, yet they were cold and emotionless. She had seen nothing but her friends beautiful bi-colored eyes staring at her, and her own child’s crying out through the fog of the vision, “ Wake up, Momma! You’re scaring me!” She had been crying, and Selora could not soothe her. Io’s voice suddenly snapped her out of her train of thought. Apparently her face had given away her distraction. “ Yes, yes, dear. I’m alright, just… didn’t sleep well. Eleanor woke up in the middle of the night again. This is the third time just this week, Io… I’m not sure what to make of it.” She knew she looked exhausted, dark circles forming beneath her eyes. Io nearly mirrored the same dark circles under her eyes, and her face as a whole seemed hollowed. Was she eating enough, getting enough sleep? Selora could only worry, and the vision made her anxieties only worse. Had she seen what she thought she saw?

Io │ Screamer │ Serora
A gentle expression of concern spread across her face and Io's ears flattened lightly against her white mane. She had done her best to help aid her friend down the new road of motherhood but at the end of the day she couldn't call herself an expert - after all who could truly know everything there was to know when it came to the unpredictability of children. "Little Eleanor?" Io echoed the young filly's name as if it was almost unfamiliar to her. She closed her eyes tightly for a moment before opening them again, mustering a deep, heavy breath before she forced a small smile onto her face. "Has she been feeling alright?" There was genuine worry behind the question for the pegasi had grown to love the little blue-winged filly as if she were her own. The amount of individuals she was willing to protect now had only grown. It would have been easier to rationalize the possibility that perhaps the child simply missed the familiarity of home, hence her troubled sleep. But Aqoure was a home that little Eleanor did not yet know so that couldn't be a cause. "Do you know what it is that wakes her?" Io asked after several moments of quiet, her eyes squinting slightly from the sunlight as she shifted to a more comfortable position in the pool, trying to keep herself beneath the shade of the rock wall towering above them. She could see the exhaustion on her friend's face and couldn't help but feel sympathetic. It was a handful to look after her own three children but of course there was no way she could adore them any less. Io flicked her feathered tail, causing a small splash that rippled the surface of the pool. "I hope it's not the heat that's getting to her.. it's been cooler here in Sedo than it has been in years."

She had found herself thinking back again to her daughter’s terrified face as Selora had awoken, her legs locked in bent position and her daughter looking down at her, eyes wide and tears falling down her petite face. Selora had felt her own tears fall as she had rocked her daughter once the rigor in her legs had melted away, kissing her messy blonde hair and promising her everything would be okay, that Mommy was just allergic to the stray cat that wandered about outside. Of course, this was a lie. But she couldn’t tell her newborn what truly was going on - even if she knew what exactly that was.
Selora tipped her head to look at Io with drained eyes, the lilac color of her irises seeming to lack their usual light. She stepped her hooves into the cool waters, submerging part of her body by laying in the wet sand and pebbles. The cold rocks beneath them felt good against her warm body, yet she couldn’t focus on how good the rocks felt on her cramped muscles, from a night of terrible visions and even more frightening dreams. She could only focus on the visions, over and over and over again.
“Oh, she’s fine dear. She goes through these phases of not sleeping well, perhaps it is nightmares. She just climbs into bed with me when she has bad dreams, though. I’m certain they are just a child’s bad dream, i couldn’t imagine it to be anything different…” There was a buzzing in Selora’s wars that made her head throb. She squinted towards Io, and suddenly, a flash of the vision she had seen the previous night broke into her view. Io’s head hung limp in the water, similar to how Gianna’s did when she had found him dead in the Wave Mother’s Ocean.
Selora gasped loudly, standing quickly and pushing her way through the water to Io’s limp body. Her voice seemed quiet in her own mind, yet she felt as though she were yelling. “IO! Io, are you alright?!” The buzzing in her ears only grew louder, and she could feel her nose growing wet. She had splashed quite a bit as she had moved through the water, but why then did the liquid on her nose feel warm? The water was at least 20 degrees colder than the air. And even more odd, the wetness tasted of metal, tasted of blood...

Io │ Screamer │ Serora
"Selora..!" Was the cry that escaped her. Io wasn't prepared for when her friend suddenly lunged in her direction. Her enormous wings flapped wildly in alarm but she did her best to keep them from accidentally striking Selora. Her bi-colored eyes were wide in fear and confusion and her ears were pressed tightly against her white head. With water now dripping down her feathers and face from her thrashing in the pool Io turned to face the small mare, a look of horror crossing her face at the sight of blood dripping down her friend's muzzle. "I-I'm fine, Sel!" She exclaimed, her voice wavering as she inched closer to her, lifting a wing to touch her feathers to her shoulder as she searched Selora's face. "Your nose.. it's bleeding... Are you hurt?" Io uttered quietly in a soft tone of voice. Her brow knitted in concern and again that sense of helplessness came hurtling back. "Are you alright?" Her fear and worry was clear on her face and it was taking a lot of control to hold back tears. "Selora what.. what's going on? What's frightened you?" Frantically Io searched her friend's face, as if she was hoping to find something there that would answer her questions and bring her some sort of reassurance. "You look almost as exhausted and as troubled as me..." she added quietly, exhaling in a soft sigh.

The vision washed away nearly as quickly as it has come, though the fear of losing her friend and seeing those cold, dead eyes staring at her remained behind, lingering in the back of her thoughts. Shaking her head roughly as she felt Io’s soft feathers touch her shoulder, Io’s voice sounded far, far away from her - as if she in a cave, the voice echoed in her ears. Her ears pressed against her neck, and then moved forward, flicking uncertainly. “I… I am sorry, my friend… I don’t know what has come over me.” And then she noticed the blood dripping from her nostrils, licking her upper lip as it dripped into her mouth. Blinking as though she had not known what had happened, Selora paused for a moment, a deep sigh lifting her chest. “Io, you know me to have been blessed by Cascade… I have told you this, I believe… well, that same blessing has become somewhat of a curse… I wake up in terror nearly every night, seeing visions of awful things… terrible things that I would never imagine to think. Yet there must be some truth behind them, if they stem from the goddess… my daughter is too scared to sleep in her own bed anymore, she tells me, even at her young age, that she is scared her mommy will hurt her, in my convulsions. Io, I am so frightened… I don’t know what to do… the things that I have seen recently…” she hadn’t realized the tears that had found their way down her cheeks.
Selora moved to look her friend in the eyes, her own lilac eyes sparkling with tears. She couldn’t believe what she had seen, but couldn’t bring herself to reject it completely. If the visions were truly from the goddess, there was denying them. “I have been seeing you in my dreams, my dear friend… I have been seeing your death.” She hoped and prayed she was wrong, oh did she pray. This blessing had truly come to be a curse.

Io │ Screamer │ Serora
Every word out of the smaller mare's mouth was picked up carefully by Io. Her brow was narrowed slightly as she tried to connect the meaning in what she was explaining to her. Yes.. she remembered her mentioning something about that blessing before, although it was only brief. But Io couldn't have ever imagined that a power that would be considered a gift could become a curse - one as horrible enough to instill fright in a young child and cause such pain and fear in it's barer. There was so much that had happened in just the last three months that Io couldn't bare the thought of anymore threats and dangers posed to her loved ones. What would it take for her family and friends to finally be safe? Oh if only Alya was listening. But even the goddess herself had gone silent, as did the winds. Her children were on their own in her absence. That was enough to have shaken the pegasi's faith to the core. As Io opened her mouth to speak she was immediately silenced as Selora's last sentence caused her blood to run cold. Her body fell completely still as her muscles stiffened. Her blessing was meant to see the future, wasn't it? But that couldn't possibly be true... how could it be? The only thing Io could do was slowly shake her head in disbelief as she pulled back her wing to her side. Only with a deep breath did she manage to find the courage to speak again as she tried to steady her nerves. "Selora, what have you been seeing of my death?" Io dared to ask. Whether the answer was something she was expecting to hear or not, she had to know. If there was some way she could avoid it she would do anything. Her three children, Kit, Neo and Nico, they couldn't be left alone without a mother. They were already without a father. How cruel could the world possibly get if she was taken from them as well? "There must be some way it can be avoided..." Io murmured quietly, almost to herself as she stared down at her reflection in the surface of the pool. "M-my children, I..." she turned her head and her gaze towards her friend once again. "No.. that cannot happen, Selora. My children.. out of anyone else, they need me most." It was difficult to keep her voice from breaking out of desperation. She had lost the love of her life only previously and things had only seemed to spiral downwards since. "How could this be..."
