B R I N Y smell the ocean and feel the sky; let your soul and spirit fly The sun had slowly been sinking, finally giving way to the moon as it disappeared behind the horizon. The group had been traveling along the river, Briny in tow as she tried to stop every few steps to peer into the water, hoping to find maybe a shell or a neat rock. She had been left behind before, so it wasnt like she didnt know how to get herself to safety, but she appreciated this group's dedication to at least trying to keep the young mare close. However, the darker the sky became, the closer Briny decided to trail behind. It was one thing being left in daylight, but she didnt want to be caught dead alone under the moonlight.
Her ears flicked at the sound of the leader calling for a halt, claiming they would spend the night by the river and take up their travels again in the morning. Briny trotted through the group as the other started to lay down or grab a drink. Her messy hair flopped along her neck, her forelock falling in her eyes before she flicked it away with a bob of her head. Night had already began, there was plenty of time before she needed to sleep!
Stopping beside the river, Briny slipped her saddle bags from her shoulders and let them drop to her hooves with a thud. The flap started to wiggle as her familiar, Riven the Dwarf Caiman, shuffled out from his home inside the bag. He let out a yawn before giving the mare a glare for the rude awakening. Briny giggled quietly as she pulled her forelock back, fastening it between her long ears. Her muzzle dipped down the river and she took a sip, watching her reflection dance in the ripples from the drips off her muzzle.
Just as she was going to jump into the water, her ears caught the sound of muffled voices. Curiosity got the best of her, and the mare scooped up her tiny crocodilian friend and placed him on her neck as she took on a trot toward the voices. She stopped as she noticed others approaching, large ears pricked forward as she watched them get closer. She didnt recognize anyone right away, but she was sure she would find someone who's name she knew eventually. She offered a smile as many dispersed, small talk starting in small groups. She edged closer to the leader of her own group, her ears straining to hear his murmurs.
It seemed as though they were bunking together for the night! Excitement poured through the mare as she realized this meant more friends!
A smile plastered on her face, she meandered her way through the new group, offering greetings to all she came across. It was then that her attention was caught by another, their coat darker than her own, but interesting markings lining their neck. A small grin played across her lips as she approached the stranger quietly, not wanting to bother them.
"Wind beneath your wings," She greeted happily, "My name's Briny."

It'd been a few days since Mauri had closed up shop, packed her saddlebags, and headed off with the rest of her group. She wasn't particularly happy about the move, to be honest, and with each passing day she found the idea of settling down permanently more and more appealing. It seemed that every time she got attached to a place, she was uprooted. Such was life, she supposed.
Her eyelids had grown heavy and she blinked slowly every so often, following along silently near the back of the band. The chattering and scattered hoofbeats of excitable foals provided the soundtrack for her travels. The adults spoke mostly in low, calm murmurs, keeping each other company during the trip as the foals frolicked and enjoyed the opportunity to stretch their legs more than normal. Mauri lifted her head enough to watch a trio of them giggling and tripping over their own hooves, playing a game of tag as the herd moseyed onward. So much energy. She sighed softly and yawned, returning her gaze to the ground in front of her.
She managed to keep her legs moving when her mind checked out completely, in some half-state between sleep and consciousness. She kept those legs moving so well, in fact, that she wasn't aware they had reached their destination until she collided into the hindquarters of the mare in front of her. She was greeted with a snapping of teeth in her face, and returned the sentiment with a roll of her eyes, grumbling under her breath with her ears against her skull as she plodded off. She'd heard something to the effect of "-staying here for tonigh--" and off she went.
She perked up a little when she caught sight of the river. It'd been so long since they'd stayed near it; mostly they'd found small pools and things. Fixated on the thought of wading right in and taking a nice relaxing bath before bed, she sped up a little, ears relaxing, nearly perked-- until she found herself in front of a strange looking mule.. shark? She stopped, looked her up and down -- well, back and forth, really, considering the length from nose to fin-tip and considerable lack of much height -- and let out a sigh involuntarily when the greeting exited the excited mare's lips.
"Yeah, uh.. wind beneath yours," she mumbled, clearly not anywhere near as enthused as her new companion. She took another step toward the river, still planning to follow through on that bath and silently hoping this jolly little shark would be on her way. She glanced at her, not sure whether to keep walking or wait for whatever Briny planned on telling her. She was exhausted and a bit irritated, but not necessarily inclined to be rude, so she settled on the latter, hoping this would be quick.

B R I N Y smell the ocean and feel the sky; let your soul and spirit fly The mare's ears flicked to the side at the newcomer's mumbled response. For a moment, the thought that perhaps her welcome was not, well, welcome, passed through her mind, but such a thought did not last long. There was no one Briny couldnt warm up, even if it took a couple tries. Her fuzzy ears were brought forward once more, a smile still present on her lips. Perhaps this stranger was simply tired from her wandering, but Briny was quite the opposite. Sleep and Briny never really got along, especially when the night air felt cool in her thick coat.
She stepped aside as the other took a step toward the river, her golden gaze focusing on the water before back at the mare. Now that she was able to examine her a little closer, Briny found the marking on her neck incredibly interesting.. It almost looked like a map.
"Do you want to go swimming?" For now, Briny would ignore the fact that the mare never gave her name in return. If anything, that would make this more fun! Briny could come up with a nickname for her even! Just the thought of this caused the mare to shuffle her hooves in a little jig of excitement. She had never made a friend where she would have to guess their name before.
"C'mon, it'll help you cool down! Im sure you've had a busy day." She urged, flicking her head in the direction of the water before turning on her heals and stepping toward it herself, stopping only to glance over her shoulder to make sure her new friend was following. The small breeze tugged at her messy hair, twirling the hanging cloth from her headband and momentarily brushing it against her face before she flicked it away with a golden glow of her telekinesis.
