Tansy | Cleric "Even from a dark night, songs of beauty can be born." - Mary Anne Radmacher
Tansy barely heard Dae's attempts to get the group in some semblance of order after Zenith's appearance. Mindlessly she left the injured ones side and managed to locate some of the minor ingredients she had been babbling on about. Cabbage. Gingerly tearing off a leaf she set it down on a flat surface with the intention of rolling it to break up the inner part of the leaf that would release the calming qualities that would slow the intense bruising she would be getting but the Golden horses words stopped her. "Take nothing" She looked to him as he turned to follow through with his plans, to Kalakara following suit and then to poor Zen. "I... Uh... Well...." Reaching back to the plethora of things about she bit gingerly on the head of cabbage and turned back to Zenith and gave a goofy wink. Some genetic failing led to a sort of inability to blink where the other eye meant to be open nearly closed itself. Awfully silly she must look, trying to show Zenith some confidence while a cabbage in her mouth. No matter, she scoffed to herself and prodded to the injured horse and nudged her with her nose and cabbage. "Awff wheee geooo" ("Off we go") And followed Kalu and Dae out the door pausing beside the large opening for Zenith, her tasked patient and eyed the streets cautiously trusting the big stallions guarding ability Word Count : 247 Post Count : 6

Farsight || Harrower
Eyes followed his movements, how he captivated the whole room with his words and authority. A look towards himself, only made Farsight look away. No, this was his place. He was no Paladin, the harrower was not his cards, he merely played the cards. As Daemyn spoke he could see how the rest of the group responded and reacted, he was a guard it was natural for others to respond to a stronger figure. A figure that knew the hardships, had a plan. Yet for Farsight all he could do was bit down on his own tongue, to stop himself from saying anything. His pride and ego hurt, but it didn't hurt as much as realizing his place amongst them. A bitter taste began to fill his mouth snapping him back to life, he swallowed and watched them all moving. Dae was already out and the others were following suit. If anything Daemyn was the true Paladin here. Farsight stood in the room for a moment as he looked back and his brows furrowed a bit as he looked around once more. His emotions were like an angry storm. The kind that made waves crash into the shore, each emotion hitting him with more difficulty than the next. It was drowning him; his emotions, yet all he could do was bite his tongue. Attention turned to the other Tansy trying to lighten the mood with Zenith, she was such a breath of fresh air. Even in times of dire needs she was trying to lift spirits. Eve would be blooming with pride to watch this, and if Farsight's words meant anything, he'd be sure to tell her if he. Well no need to dabble in the negativity. He let out a sigh, ears bent back as he remained silent and walked out of the door and out into the open. It was free game here and all he could think was making sure they all got out alright. Eyes looked off into the distance looking to see if he could spot figure moving or lurking about in shadows. Farsight snorted as he flexed his wings a bit trying to settle them tightly to his body, there was no point in keeping them tucked surely it was noticeable to all at a mere glance at who had wings and who didn't. It was only a matter of time before they were spotted. It was a race now, and the odds were easily stacked against them. WC|| 416 Post 8

Serene l Brewer /// Zenith l Brewer
"We leave now. You will tend to Zenith's wounds when we are safe and no sooner. I exit first, guarding the street and I make up the rear. Kali takes point, she knows the way. You two keep your wings tucked in tightly, ya hear? And Zenith, the moment your gear causes any issues or slows you down, you let me know. If necessary you will drop it all and I carry you. Tansy, you stay close to her. Take nothing with you. We've not the time to gather supplies. Do you all understand? "
Serene nodded curtly, wrapping her shawl tight around her body in an attempt to hide her wings before slipping out the door behind Kali. Though she felt the plan was a bit hasty, she trusted the golden stallion knew what he was doing. Years of training for emergencies had prepared Daemyn well, and Serene wasn’t about to doubt the younger horse now.
Zenith, on the other hoof, was not at all ready to leave the perceived safety of their mentor’s home. Glancing nervously around the group, the small appaloosa rolled themself out the door and into the stormy streets. Tansy was still close by, doting as much as she could as the group tried to inconspicuously make their way out of the city. The injured horse trusted Dae, but his plan worried them. 'And Zenith, the moment your gear causes any issues or slows you down, you let me know. If necessary you will drop it all and I carry you.” His words rang in their ears, terrifying the horse further. Dae couldn’t understand the implications of what he’d said, and they knew he was only trying to help and be a good friend...but still… They tried to shake the thoughts away, but it was no use. If Dae forced them to leave their mobility equipment, Zen didn’t know what they’d do. That equipment was the only way the young horse was able to function, to move around, and they idea of going into the wilds without it….It was too much for the copper appaloosa.
Only a few moments passed before none of it would matter. Another scream rang through the streets, causing Serene to push the group to move faster. They needed to get out of here now if they wished to remain unseen and make it to Kali’s hideout in one piece. Rain poured down from the heavens, making visibility difficult and travel rather dangerous in of itself. 'Oh Cascade, why don’t you do something…' She thought to herself as she pressed on, staying as close to Kali as she could.
Fear coursed through Zenith’s veins, and though they tried to keep it under control, the raging storm coupled with the howls of pain from an unfortunate victim of the extremists made it almost impossible. Trying to push through it all proved to be too much for the horse’s body as they sped up, trying to stay close to Tansy. The appaloosa slipped on the wet cobblestone street trying to make a turn. The force sent them sprawling on the ground, helpless to get up on their own. "Farsight..." they called hoarsely, the wind having been knocked out of them by the fall making it difficult to breathe. Of all the horses Zen could have called in that moment, they honestly had no idea why it was Farsight's name that graced their lips in that moment. There was just something about him that the copper appaloosa found comforting, and he was the one they wanted at their side now.

Daemyn | Guardian Post 5 Word Count: 375
It was going well. They would all be safe soon, able to breathe freely again, because it was all going so well. More or less. Calathea had to return soon after she'd departed as the rain grew thicker, making it almost impossible for the small bird to stay airborne. She perched on his back again, digging toes into the base of his mane to cling on for dear life. It irritated Daemyn greatly that the rain was working against them so, but at the same time the thick downpour might obscure their forms from a distance, make the pegasi less noticeable. He was tempted to part the rain, bend it away from the small group, but even that, he worried, might somehow draw attention. They weer doing fine. They would all be fine soon. And then, in front of him, Zenith caught a slippery rock and crashed, sent sprawling on her side thanks to that damned box. He cursed darkly under his breath, skidding to a halt next to her struggling figure. The gear was no aid at all and in his opinion they'd all do better to dump it and simply carry Zenith, but that brought along a whole other line of worries, didn't it? How long were they going to be hiding away? How long until all was calm at it was safe to return home? Daemyn was certain he would have no trouble carrying Zenith, but what if they encountered dangers, predators? Despite his earlier harsh words, there was no way he could force the other to leave behind the mobility gear she was so dependent on. Daemyn snorted heavily, pausing a moment to peer behind the group, checking for any who might pursue them. Then, with a shimmer of pale blue and green matching his eyes, he used his inborn telekinesis to carefully right Zenith and the cart, helping her up. "Are you alright? " he asked, voice softened tremendously and head dropped to hers so he wouldn't have to shout over the loud drumming of rain. "Do I need to carry you? " he asked with clear concern, and added quickly to ease any mounting panic: "I-I won't make you leave any of this behind. "Later he would no doubt apologize for hours.

Kalakara | Brewer The overo's hooves skidded on the cobblestones as he tried to slow himself to a stop, unable to slow himself quickly on the wet ground. Cursing, he skidded to a halt, practically falling over himself as he made a large, looping u-turn, facing Dae and Zenith. Still struggling to gain traction, he scrabbled forward, rushing to his fiance's side, taking in the mess that was Zenith and her cart. Trying to keep from frowning, not wanting to make Zenith feel as though she were the reason for this, Kali examined the situation.
"You're stronger than I am," he stated, bending down to shout in Dae's ear above the din of the rain. It was cuttingly cold, and he felt it run in rivulets down his hide, making him shiver. "You carry Zenith, if need be, and I will help with the gear," Kali instructed, feeling strange. It was not normal for him to be giving orders, especially to a Guardian, but today was not the time nor place to discuss it.
Without another word, Kali began to walk around Zenith and her cart, eyeing the situation and trying to decide what the best way would be to transport the gear would be. It was mobility gear for Cascade's sake, but it didn't look very mobile without Zenith to lead it. With his ear twitching as he thought, Kali let his eyes rove over the gear from new angles, still seeing no way they could get Zenith up and the gear moving without her. Hopefully, they wouldn't have to separate Zenith from her gear. ||

Tansy | Cleric "Even from a dark night, songs of beauty can be born."
- Mary Anne Radmacher
"Zenith!!! " Tansy shouted, the small cabbage she had been trying not to drool on popped from her mouth and landed upon the cobblestones with a soft 'thwunk' just as Zenith had a moment ago. Trying not to crowd but knowing herself the one capable to assess any damage that the carted horse may have taken. Although the facial wounds still seemed horribly painful, there were no obvious signs of distress. Except for the moan to her betrothed. A small sliver of steel broke into Tansy and she flicked a tail and moved inward for comfort at Zenith ''s side. "He's here, he's here. Farsight here please." She called out much more loudly thann poor Zenith had in the ground, prior to being righted by simple magic. With keen eyes she pushed her muzzle neared, gently pressing Zenith's neck while staying near enough to slip herself under their neck incase the fall had weakened her. While waiting for some sort of response of wellbeing from the injured horse, and for Farsight to come close to ease them Tansy thoughtfully looked over the mobility gear much like the tattooed Kala was now. She could see no quick way to deal with the hindering yet helpful equipment besides one of the more balanced horses sliding into the stuff or simply lashing it to another horse and pulling it in a wagon sort of fashion. Relaying her thoughts out loud to Kalakara, all the while still thinking. "One of us could maybe take over the equipment while the big boy carries Zenith. Or just tie ourselves to it like a wagon, both require Zenith to be out of the gear. " Speaking softly she looked up at Zenith, still poised to intercede if Zenith's legs gave out. " You alright to go on? We can go slower while the others went on ahead. I will stay with you but Farsight shouldn't.... " Letting that sentence trail off with the dark implications it brought she fell silent. Awaiting the responses of others. Word Count = 339 Post Count = 7

Farsight || Harrower
Rain drenched him as everyone slid out from the house, who would have thought they couldn;t be safe in their homes? The past events still haunted him daily, and even if they could find peace, would his kind find peace? Would they ever look at his type with anything but disgust and shame from what has happened? The rain somehow felt reassuring to him, reassuring that even after all of this, he could still feel things, he was still here. Though he wasn't entirely sure if that was good or bad anymore. Farsight moved with the group, his mind somewhere else, but every scream brought a shiver down his face, made him gradually lose more and more hope. Farsight shook his body trying to rid himself of the rain, and yet it wouldn't let up. Many claimed Cascade wept for them, he'd like to believe she had to drown them all out. Hide them all away from her view. A blind eye.
Suddenly he heard the crash and fall and his head turned and saw Zenith on the ground, and as if everyone was trained, but him. They flooded around her asking questions. All stronger and better then himself. All he could do was look to her with a painful expression. He didn't quite understand why he hurt as much as he did seeing this scene unfold, but by gods it hurt. A single step back and he gulped a bit, yet Tansy called out his name and he couldn't pull his eyes away from Zenith. He stood there but a mere second more, before walking forwards, he eyes his companions how they discussed of carrying her or her equipment. Farsight managed to swing next to her. Eyes looked to those about him and with out a moment to spare a single wing spread out, blocking Zenith from the falling rain. Head lowered down to her as he smiled lightly to her. "Zenith." he merely whispered her name. Sure he couldn't do much, he obviously wasn't strong enough to carry her, or her equipment. He wasn't a healer like the others. All he could do was simply block the rain away from her. It wasn't much but it was all he had to offer.
"We got you, Zenith. It's okay." he remarked. Yes, it would be okay for them all. Farsight vowed it from the beginning. He may not play the role of Paladin, but his heart was true in a sense. His eyes never left Zenith's, never wavering to another as he merely just took in the sight of her. How the world around them have crumbled and affected each one. All of those that could help aid laid hidden away. What a shame, what a shame that a misfit group like them had courage to try to do something. Sure they may fail, some could get caught. Though Farsight liked to believe something was better than nothing. "Whatever you choose we can make it work Zenith. We'll get somewhere safe all of us."

Serene l Brewer /// Zenith l Brewer"Zenith!" The pegasi shouted, wheeling around to rush towards her fallen companion. Tansy and Dae were already at the young horse's side, sending a wave of relief washing over her. It was short lived tho. It was apparent to the older mare that Zen's wheel-cart was in need of repair, and the younger horse would need help getting to safety. "Kali, Farsight and I can take the cart, as we still need you to lead the way. We'll stay close behind you, and Dae can bring up the rear with Zen...."Letting herself trail off, Serene began unstrapping the small appaloosa from the cart. Looking at Daemyn, she nodded, knowing the larger horse was the only one capable of carrying Zen the distance they had to travel. "Tansy dear, You should stay close to Daemyn and help him with Zen if the occassion requires it...But you're right Farsight and I should keep moving....If you and Dae need to slow down to care for Zen, so be it." Her voice quiet as she spoke. "It's safer for the two of you and we could always send Kali back for you as well..." She trailed off once more as the red appaloosa stirred. Zenith moaned softly, fading in and out of consciousness as Farsight spoke softly to them. "We got you, Zenith. It's okay" They'd hit their head harder than they realized in the fall, and the rhythmic rainfall was quietly lulling them to sleep. The soothing darkness that lay behind their eyelids was calling to them. No. They couldn't fall asleep, not now. Zenith looked up at the palomino stallion solemnly as they spoke. "You can carry me Dae..." Their voice was weak as they spoke. "Just make sure the others get out of here safely too." Turning to Farsight, they continued, their voice barely a whisper. "Thank you for being here, you're braver than you seem." They smiled, struggling to sit up making it easier for Dae to lift them. "I'm definitely looking forward to that lunch with you when this is all over." They laughed weakly, leaning against Farsight for support. At least the adrenaline pumping through their veins was keeping most of the more ridiculous side of their anxiety at bay. [Post 6, Word Count: 375]

Kalakara | BrewerAs soon as Zenith was taken care of, Kali concerned himself with the task of leading them to his safe haven. As the others has pointed out, he was the only one who knew where they were going, and so was the only one who could take the task upon his shoulders. "We've got some ways to go," he called out, shouting above the din of the rain as he guided the others towards their destination. Kali moved slowly, knowing that the encumbered other horses would have a difficult time, especially those taking care of Zenith and her cart. Kali's own hooves slipped on the wet cobblestones, and he feared they would reach their journey's end without incident, thanks to the pouring rain.
It was not, however, the rain that was their downfall. As Kali rounded a corner, near the edge of the city, he was suddenly met with a group of rioters. The group was busy vandalizing the shop of a poor Pegasus, but their attention was not quickly kept by the home when the group, Pegasi and all, stumbled into their view. Kali's eyes grew wide with horror, and he felt the icy rain shoot through him like a bad omen. In the fleeting seconds between his running across the group, and their realizing that Kali had Pegasi beside him, Kali felt that he could see his entire life unwind. Surely, that was a good thing, he thought, as he feared the reel would not get the chance to grow any longer.
"Cascade," he mumbled, as the enemy began to approach. "What have I brought us to?"

Farsight || Harrower
Eyes never lingered away from Zenith, no. He have made that mistake before and he wouldn't allow it once more. Though her soft voice awakened him back into the dreary scene they where all in. Brave? No he wasn't it was from fear, he was fearful and scared, but he couldn't admit that to her. He couldn't shake with fear, he had to ignore it, let it fester in his own mind. "Me brave? I've only seen true courage in your eyes." he remarked offering her a smile. He didnt fault in his words, truly she was brave, not many would save him, lie and get beaten up for his sake. They hardly knew each other and yet look at what she did, for him. He took in the sight of her, and would demand some sort of justice for those extremist. Ears perched high on his brow at the mentioning of lunch, he couldn't help, but smile.
He looked to Dae as she agreed to let him carry. "Keep her safe..." he whispered out. Yet it was time to move and he had a job to do. Help carry the cart. He looked to Serene and nodded. "Ready?" he smiled faintly as he moved to pull the cart forwards. Though just as they were moving along, getting to go, he heard the voices the shouts. He felt the fear crawl up his spine like a spider to its prey in web. They had to abandon the cart, they could get Zenith a new one surely. She was blood to the Emperor their king. Eyes widen as his nostrils flared. "We have to run..." he muttered out. They had to move go. "We got to move now." he hissed out to them and he looked to Serene, they couldn't keep the cart could they. It was clear to see they were the targets and nothing would stop them from getting to them. Eyes looked to Serene for a moment and gave her a brief nod. "Tell her.... I wish I could have done more." He whispered out to her softly. Offering Serene a smile before he separates from her completely.
1 2 3 The seconds pass all to slowly for him, everything moved like it was slowly turning to ice. Movements blurred and softened as he rushed to the right of the group out of the reach of any that would have dared to grab him. But his action was quick and none were wiser that he would do such a thing. To their eyes surely it would look like he was fleeing from them all together fear had gotten the best of him. Little did they know yes fear had clung to him like the rain on his body, but his actions were not of cowardice, but of bravery, as he dashed outwards he spread open his wings and taking a sharp turn, wings kept him from slipping, a thing he was so grateful for. Yet as he dashed towards their enemies, gods have mercy he passed a glance to his comrades.He wish he never had, memories and moments rush upon him like a flash flood. Quick and erupt, it would surely drown him alive. Raw emotions gave him life as he did not fault in his steps.
4 5 6 More time slipped by, yet everything still moved as slow as fresh snow falling on a clear day. Memories took over his mind, and it seemed to pass by so quickly. he would remember them all. He would never forget them. Farsight knew he was never worth much, a mere peddler on the street, a pegasi to be engulfed by the sea. He was a means to an end. Farsight let out a shaky breath hooves gliding across the wet ground, he would not be stopped, not by his comrades, not by any force alone. Heart raced more and more till it threatened to rip from his chest, was this what it felt like to fall? He pondered to himself. Eyes caught sight of the horses the ones that wanted him so dearly. Seconds. That's all he had to give, but it was all he had to offer them.
7 8 9 Wings opened wide as he leapt forwards into the sky. Winds ruffled at his feather, he let out a steady sigh. Yes, he had come this far, he knew this was to be the end, if they did not kill him, he would be beaten enough to wish they had killed him. But he harbored no ill feelings in that mere moment to the wind. he felt more alive then anything. He was the master of his fate, he was a harrower and his future was his alone. Eyes looked to the horses before him and letting out a war cry, he tucked in his wings, and dived right at them. No mercy, he thought simply to himself. He hoped they had ran saw their chance to gain time to move and hide away from their view. Farsight prayed for once he did something right. For once, please let him do something right..
10 All he had, he gave to them. Seconds.

Tansy | Cleric "Even from a dark night, songs of beauty can be born." - Mary Anne Radmacher
Tansy felt like an intruder suddenly as Zenith and Farsight talked a bit. The vanner tried not to listen, this was their moment but she had caught a word about a date when this nonsense had finally ended and the female couldn't help but smile. Knowing all too well that Farsight had been fretting about this match with the pretty mare but things seemed to be coming together. Some sort of warm glow radiated out from her center as she thought happily of how something good was coming from this disaster. That was of course until she heard Kali press up a word to their goddess and she saw them. She knew she would look back on this moment and swear the rioters before them had glowing red eyes and were monstrous. Now however she could see they were just her herd turned vile as they destroyed property not their own simply because the owner had wings. Biting the inside of her cheek until she tasted the salt and silver of blood as she tried to battle her rush of rage to confront them. They needed out and that needed to happen seconds ago. They did not need the hot headed female to rush into their numbers and be pummeled just from association of Pegasus friends. Closing her eyes for a moment she collected herself and opened them softly. She knew well Dae was a strength to them right now but she also was a thick and powerful horse even if she was only a female. Passing Farsight, Kali, Zenith, the rest, and stood between her new found friends and the rioters who had turned their attention to them. "Go, i'll be right behind you guys" Setting her eyes into a hard piercing stare she watched as a few of the baddies took some steps towards them. The hate coming off them in waves but she pushed back with her own. That was until however Farsight bolted passed them and headed towards the group bent on anything from looting to murder. Her heart tightened and felt like it stopped. She loved him aye, but he was her brother and that's where the love came. They leaned on one another and he was her only light in this world. What the hell is he doing, she cursed him with surprising anger but it only made it stronger because fear drove it forward from her. As she watched as he made a path to the right of the group her flanks began to quake "FARSIGHT, YOU BLOODY FOOL?! NO!" She shrieked at him as cantered on away from the rioters and soon enough his wings parted and he was in the air. That bastard, she had no wings to follow and help. Her bright eyes welled with tears and she looked back to the group behind her as a few drops fell into her already wet coat. Her eyes locked on Zenith and a strange emotion welled in her. Jealousy? Fear? The need to protect her? Even Tansy could not say to herself but regardless if that bloody horse was going to try and get them an outlet she would not waste it and if anything happened to him she would hate herself if they lost this chance. He better make it, she thought, I'll strangle the fool myself She thought with a tinge of panic. Never would she say things and normally wouldn't even think as such. She was such a caring beast but Farsight was not her to keep her heart warm. Looking to Dae she spoke, a hardness in her voice now. "We go. Now"It seemed for a moment the rioters attention was on the Pegasus that was diving for the group and her heart stopped yet again. Going against her own suggestion as she froze and watched him, riveted to the spot.

Daemyn | Guardian Post 6 Word Count: 358
Daemyn moved gently but swiftly, getting Zenith onto his back once she accepted his offer. With the blue-green shimmer of his magic he made sure she was secure and wouldn't slide off his drenched hide. "I've got ya, " he said softly, while Calathea hopped up his neck, chirping encouraging tones to Zenith, before focusing on the street, alert and ready to sound the alarm. Daemyn tested the added weight, thankful to find that he wasn't really bothered by the smaller form. The rain tickled his nose and he snorted heavily, standing back to give the others room to fiddle with the cart. They would all be fine. They would all be safe.Then they were one the move once more, fast and precise, closing in on the wilderness which would, for once, aid them. It was so close that Daemyn almost allowed himself a moment of relief, just as Kali came to a sudden stop. Calathea gave a screech of alarm even as the enemy was sighted by the small band of 'refugees', and Daemyn felt his blood turn cold as ice. Had Zenith not been sprawled across his back he would have charged and his skin twitched as he struggled against that protective instinct. Farsight rushed forward without warning, stunning the Guardian and locking him to the spot. He watched with mounting terror as the small stallion threw himself into the angry wind and then dive-bombed the rioters. "NO! FARSIGHT! " he cried out, thunderous voice joining Tansy's. No, the fool! He would be torn to shreds... and so would the rest of them if they did not move. Daemyn would not let Farsight's bravery go to waste, but that did nothing to stop his insides from aching painfully. "I'm sorry, " he muttered, loud enough to carry to his passenger's ears. Daemyn's heavy head nodded in agreement with Tansy's harsh words, but he was left with a bitter taste in his mouth. "Kali, Serene! Run! " he barked, hoping to gain their attention and with that the lurched forward, holding onto Zenith tightly as he made for the relative safeness of the wilderness, keeping Kali, their guide, in sight.

Serene l Brewer /// Zenith l Brewer Serene stood eyes wide as the scene played out before her. Her group had been spotted, and they needed more time to get away. Turning on her heels, she faced the rest of the group, trying to assess their current situation a bit better. As she did, a white spotted blur sprung up into the sky. Farsight... "You damned fool of a child what do you think you're doing?" She screamed after the colt. Closing her eye's she cursed herself for putting him in danger. She should have known he'd be the first to jump to action to buy even a moment more for those he called his friends. She should have done more to protect him. Inhaling deeply, Serene summoned forth the power she'd been bestowed with by the gods themselves. Water pouring from the sky suddenly turned to ice as Serene opened her eyes, righteous anger taking over her very being. Slamming a small fore-hoof into the mud, she summoned forth massive ice walls, encasing their attackers within the walls. The rain was sure to weaken and melt the walls shortly; but between Farsight's sacrifice, and the wall forcing the attackers to find a new direction to chase them, the group had a fighting chance. "Kali, Serene! Run!" Daemyn's voiced barked out as he ran forward, Tansy by his side. The small pegasus only nodded as she tuned to follow along, not wanting to waste Farsight's rash but caring gift. Zenith grimaced in pain as they were jostled terribly on Dae's back. He was solid and sure footed, but it still wasn't a comfortable way to travel with all the bruises they had. It took them a moment to realize what had happened, as the pain they were experiencing was making difficult to focus or hear and see straight. It wasn't until Zen saw Farsight's winged form overhead that they actually understood what had transpired. "Farsight!" they croaked softly, voice cracking mid call. Feelings of guilt and anger washed over their small form as Daemyn continued to carry them to safety. Zen hardly knew the stallion, but they'd grown fond of their betrothed, and had even begun thinking about the possibility of a future with him. And yet, in that single moment, all of those possibilities seemed as if they'd been snuffed out.
