Gemstone and Saira ✦ A Private Roleplay ✦
The location of the roleplay is The Starlight Rest Inn, an Inn in Sterling run and owned by Gemstones' grandmother, Alba. G E M S T O N E ✦ Breim | Uncut ✦
"A gem cannot be polished without friction, nor a man perfected without trials." ~Lucius Annaeus Seneca ✦ "Welcome to Sterling! If you need somewhere to rest and recuperate, please consider staying at The Starlight Rest Inn for the duration of your stay! Have a good evening!" Eloquent, straight to the point, keep eye contact short and sweet, just as she was taught all her life.
A lone child clad in a deep, vibrant purple cloak with an emerald clasp glistening on her throat stood outside of a building built into the stonework of the Sterling cavern. Various textiles decorated the outside of the building, showing off the artistry typically seen in Breim’s secondary city. Torches and imbued crystals glowed from the walls, providing an eerie, yet welcome glow to those who passed by.
Gemstone had a permanent smile on her face. This was her job, a responsibility handed to her by her elderly grandmother who ran the inn behind her. To try to get passers by to use this particular inn while they traveled, using her adorable demeanor was no easy feat, but it was worth it in the end. It gave her experience, which was much needed at this stage in her life when she was still searching which path she would take.
So this was better than nothing. She could go exploring the nearby caverns where she was allowed to roam, but getting attention from random equines was much more interesting. Not to mention she got to see the beauty of Breim and beyond. She was never quite sure if anyone she saw wandering the city was from any of the other herds, so her brain automatically counted everyone as a part of Breim.
Her favorites were pegasi. Who in Breim didn’t think so? Wings, feathers, the ability to fly? She would often pause and watch any pegasi who passed. The way their wings moved when they talked, how their head feathers caught the light of the gemstones, even just the colors of the feathers. Common horses like her were limited to earthly tones. But pegasi could have all colors of the rainbow decorating their wings. She was jealous, naturally, but her upbringing let her be jealous, but to also appreciate who she was.
Her parents, while both common themselves, had their special points otherwise. Where unicorns had their horns, pegasi had their wings and hippocampus had their fins and frills, common horses had this unequaled strength. Either it was a gift of Argus and Kaia, Gemstone was determined to believe that everyone was special in their own way. It was a teaching from her parents she remembered everyday; she was named Gemstone for that reason, she was special even if she was common.
“Welcome to Sterling!” The filly announced again, offering those who walked by a brilliant smile and gleam from her emerald eyes. It might just seem like a sales pitch, but the girl was generally happy and pleasant anyway, and those who knew her well could verify such personality traits.
“Welcome to The Starlight Rest Inn!” She said to those who did find interest in staying for a night, walking past her and returning her smile as they passed through the doorway. It felt good to get her grandmother customers. “Please enjoy your stay!”

Saira hummed as she walked through the city streets. Sterling was an... Odd place, that was for certain. But still, she traveled here to hear the pleas of those who were unable to make their way to Nariah, and the temples there. It was her job to do so after all. She gave a sigh, hearing the din of the Makers hawking their wares. Her wings fluffed a bit at a gust of cold wind blew down from the Skylight. Ah, it had been a few weeks since she had seen the sky... If she were, to be honest, she couldn't wait to travel to the Point once more, and to the farms scattered around it. Travelling in the open air, where she could stretch her wings freely... That was a good time. As she walked, she was frequently stopped, and complimented on her appearance... That was something she doubted she would ever be comfortable with. She chuckled to herself as she walked away from one such encounter, looking around once more. She was in a part of Sterling she had not been in often, and so, she was unsure of where an inn might be... It was certainly a troublesome position, as she walked the streets. Most here in Sterling weren't quite as welcoming as those in the Point or Nariah to rooming a stranger... Saira sighed, her wings fluffed in annoyance as she tried to pick out a voice calling out an inn from the din. Eventually, she heard one, bringing a smile to her face. "The Starlight Rest... Sounds pleasant." She told herself, heading towards the voice she heard. She smiled, seeing the young teen standing outside the inn. "Are there still rooms available?" She asked with a smile, her head lowered so that she did not tower over the young filly standing in front of the inn.

G E M S T O N E ✦ Breim | Uncut ✦
"A gem cannot be polished without friction, nor a man perfected without trials." ~Lucius Annaeus Seneca ✦ One might think it disappointing to watch so many pass by while they were trying to sell their wares, or in Gemstones case, a bed to sleep in. But that was part of the adventure of it all, if you could call it that. Gem certainly would. By making work into a game, it wasn’t really work anymore. It was a positive way to see the metaphorical silver lining on a dark cloud.
Not to mention, there could be dozens of reasons why those who walked by didn’t stop. Perhaps they lived nearby, had no money, had another place to stay. It was important to stay positive. And so she did. Gemstone kept a smile on her face and spoke to those who walked by, oftentimes earning a smile, and sometimes succeeding to get someone to stop in. Those times were the very best.
Her voice rose above the crowd, needing to reach those at a distance. And it appeared she had caught someone's attention. The typical ‘Enjoy your stay’ quip was on her tongue and nearly breathed before she realized she was being spoken to directly. The filly gave the mare a quick once over, excitement bubbling through her. A pegasus! Beaming, and bowing her head, she replied in her pleasant manner, not at all perturbed by the mare’s size but grateful for the lowered head regardless.
“Yes ma’am! There are plenty of rooms left!” She was sure of it at least. After doing this for a while, she got the hang of mentally counting how many came and went, just in case such a question arose, which it often did. Some equines were just simply in too much of a rush to ask the innkeeper herself, so Gemstone took on that responsibility all on her own. It gave her a small sense of pride, to say the least.
“Is there any particular kind of room you might be looking for?” Gemstone continued, secretly wanting to keep the pegasi mare in her presence for just a moment longer. “My grandmother might have an opening for our deluxe room, which has a wonderful view of the Skylight, if I do say so myself!”
