Change in Pace Ciardha | Kanaloa
Time spend in Torrine has been rough on them all. While Ciardha tries his best to keep a smile on his face, he notices that those around him are struggling, including his own body guard, Kanaloa.

C I A R D H A hide your eyes, darling, people can see your heart through them The early morning sun had just started peeking through his window, stirring the coucilman from his sleep. Pulling himself up from the pile of blankets he called his bed, he mumbled quietly to himself as he woke his stiff joints from their slumber as well. Stretching his legs, his knees creaked in protest, causing him to move maybe a little bit slower than he usually did. He may only be forty-five years old, but he felt like he's been alive for a century.
Meandering his way through the hut, the stallion shoved aside the small round table in the middle of the room to reach for his cup of tea left unfinished from the light before. Glancing into the cool, amber liquid, he furrowed his brow at the sight of a few gnats floating at its surface. Giving an exasperated sigh, he pushed open his tiny window and threw the tea outside, hearing a small splash as it hit the rocks outside. He placed the cup down and scooped up a bowl of fruits and nuts before turning back to the door.
Pushing the door open, a stream of cool light poured into his hut. His fins almost sparkled in the morning sunlight, his dark blue eyes squinting from the sudden light. His hut was always kept so dark; a large contrast to the outside world.
Closing the door behind him, the stallion simple stood on his porch, resting the bowl on the railing as he picked at it. His long ears flicked forward as he watched the other early risers, offering a greeting if they looked his direction, but otherwise keeping to himself and enjoying his breakfast.

Kanaloa | Guardian
Kanaloa had risen as tte first rays of sun started to peek over the horizon, his early waking shedule still drilled into his body. Now he stood dutifuly outside Ciardha’s door, waiting for the council member to rise and start his days as well. Though he did so without complaining, the guardian felt winded. It was not like he was spoiled in nature, but even a simple guardian was used to certain commidities and it were those things he sorely lacked in Torrine. Not his bones, but his joints ached from sleeping on the cold hard floor, having giving his blankets to whom he deemed needed them more. His ageing joints did not agree with his mind’s and heart’s decision.
His tired feeling was not only due to uncomfortable sleep though. Between their problematic current situation and worries about what the future may bring, Kanaloa had more than enough on his plate. It was no wonder he was yawning as he stood at his post, walking a little in front of Ciardha’s temporary home to ease his painful muscles.
Then of course there was that job in itself. It was not what he had expected. Even now he stood there, watching mornfully as a young mother tried to carry her ailing child. His body itched to approach her, like he had always done when he saw citizens in need. Now however he was stuck, unable to leave his post, prisoner to his duty so he had to watch her struggle forward until she was out of sight. He sighed. He could see the irony and wondered if the gods really did hate him that much.
The councilor appeared on the porch and Kanaloa stood up straight, greeting the stallion in a polite fashion. “Good morning, Sir.”

C I A R D H A hide your eyes, darling, people can see your heart through them The stallion startled at the sound of Kanaloa's voice ringing out from behind him, nearly dropping his bowl of breakfast. His heart pounded in his chest as he turned to look toward the guardian, taking in a breath to regain his composure. Having a body guard was not something Ciardha was used to.
"Good morning, Kanaloa." He greeted back, shuffling his bowl of fruit and nuts before holding it out the guardian. "Hungry?"
His dark blue gaze focused on the older stallion, a soft smile on his lips. He had noticed the guardian looking awfully.. tired lately. Ciardha knew it was a common expression on most stuck in Torrine these days, but this was.. different. Pressing his lips together and humming to himself, Ciardha placed the bowl on a small table that sat by the door.
"I want you to walk with me." He suddenly spoke after a brief pause, turning toward the steps on the porch and trotting onto the road without waiting for a response from his guard. He figured he was following, not giving a glance over his shoulder to check.
"You seem tired, Kanaloa." He prompted, only looking toward him when he heard his heavy steps following.

Kanaloa Talori Guardian Kanaloa watched the stallion jump a little at his greeting. He wondered if that was his fault or if the councillor was simply on edge because of their situation. It was hard to tell. He straightened his posture as the stallion asked him if he was hungry. His stomach rumbled in reply, but he kept a straight face. "It could be worse, Sir.”And it truly could. Kanaloa didn’t lie, though he did avoid the whole truth. He was hungry of course, probably taking a little less than what he needed to be in top condition, but it was bearable. Far better to see others starve while he ate his belly full. He had some reserve to live off -even if he would never have admitted it out loud- and there were others who needed it more. He was not against giving away some of his share. He didn’t say anything of it to Ciardha though. The councillor should not have to worry about meals. No, their higher ups needed to be kept in as good a shape as possible. They were the people’s role models, beacons of hope, those who were looked up to. It would seriously damage moral if they started looking as terrible as some in camp did. “Please eat well yourself.”"I want you to walk with me."“Of course, Sir.” Kanaloa was quick to fall in place behind him. He didn’t generally walk next to the councillor, the position leaving too little overview in case something happened. Nothing had yet, but Kane was rather safe than sorry. Ciardha was quick to prompt another conversation. Kanaloa wondered if this was something that followed protocol, talking to your assigned charge to protect, or if he was doing it wrong. He hadn’t been schooled in this. The question made him pause. Not in step, but it halted his thoughts for a second. Yes, he was tired. He supposed it wasn’t surprising considering their conditions. “A little, Sir. Getting a bit older, my bones make it a little more difficult to sleep,” he admitted. He tried to offer a good-natured smile, but it turned into more of a grimace when a child nearby started to cry and his ears and eyes shortly flicked in it’s direction before turning back to his duty on hand. C I A R D H A hide your eyes, darling, people can see your heart through them His ears laid back ever so slightly as he heard the heavy stallion fall in step behind him. Ciardha always found it odd that guardians would do that; walk behind or in front instead of beside. It was not his place to try to change it, though, so he simply slowed his gait in order to make it so he wasnt shouting over his shoulder to converse. His attention flicked to the child as it started to cry, offering a smile to their mother as she tried her best to hush them. He understood. Time in Torrine was hard on them all; if only children had the ability to repress the feelings like the rest of them.
"You do not need to keep addressing me as sir." He started with a soft chuckle, pausing only to let his royal blue gaze wash over the hardened guardian before resuming in his stroll down the beaten road. He nodded slowly as Kanaloa mentioned his age, a sigh leaving his lips. "I know how that is." While Ciardha was not nearly as old as his guard, he sure did feel like it. There were days when he woke up, feeling as though he had been living for centuries. Their current situation did not help, as his bones protested the lack of his usual soft bed.
"I mean tired in another sense, Kanaloa." The councilor added, stopping and turning to face him, his tail swishing behind him from the sudden movement. "I am meaning your life. Your job. You dont seem very happy." Always the blunt one, the councilor was. He was certainly not going to beat around the bush. "Life is too short to be stuck in a position you do not enjoy, especially at your place in life- and by no means is that a jab at your age." He smiled slightly, his grin crooked. Every now and then, he pretended to know how to be humorous. "Perhaps it is time to pursue something different.. a change in pace, of sorts."
