Ichigo sat at a large table. Paper, ink, and various other items were sprawled lazily about the table. She sighed down at the contents. There was an obnoxious mess to clean up, but she was so focused on the task at hand. The mare groaned loudly. "Why must I be out so late!? Stupid stallion, can't get off his lazy ass to pick up a damn stamp." She had better things to be doing than wasting her night waiting on some customer who couldn't be bothered to come earlier. But, of course, her mentor couldn't be bothered, either. The old coot. Hopefully her father wasn't too irritated watching her daughter so late. She wasn't expecting it to be this long. Ichigo finally got to her hooves and began to pace. Why was he so late? Was he being eaten by some rabid animal in the Labyrinth? That seemed the only reasonable reason. Well, that or he had to work late as well. That was probably more likely. Ichigo started messing around with an ink tray resting on the front counter. It was so black. "How can a liquid be so black? It's kind of pretty..." The mare muttered softly to herself. As she moved around the tray, her nose slipped and her front lip was dipped in the black ink. "Shit!" The brindle mare searched around quickly for a rag to wipe it off with. Nothing! "How can there not be a rag in such an easy-spill place!?" Then she heard the click of the door. Ichigo's head swung around rapidly. She quickly wiped her upper lip on her knee, which only made matters worse. Now she had a stain on her mouth and her knee. Word Count: 286 Post: 1

Mairon [ post #1 || word count: 311 ] |
At this hour streets were quiet and dark, the only light coming from lanterns that were placed at irregular intervals. The kirin walked down the street avoiding the light where he could. He hated that it had come to his, him running errands at such obscure hours when the entire city slept. But that was precisely the reason he was out, everyone else was in, there was no one to gawk at him or stop him for a series of suspicious questions.
He scowled up at the dark windows of the buildings. If he had it his way, he would be walking boldly down these streets in the middle of the morning rush with everyone scrambling to get out of his way and kiss the ground as he passed. The delightful fantasy was short lived as the kirin rounded a street corner and spotted his destination, the only shop on the street that was still lit. He sighed and hefted the small silk bag he carried. Inside were two ornate wax stamp seals he had been commissioned to create. It had been an unchallenging and inglorious task but the kirin couldn’t turn down an opportunity for paying work. After all he did have to eat and pay for the many expenditures of running a forge at the same time.
Upon reaching the door he pushed it open and stepped inside, taking in the many pieces of paper and the prevailing smell of ink. It took him a moment to spot the mare behind a writing table, once he did however the fact that she was covered in black ink became glaringly obvious. He tilted his head as he appraised the mess, a pale eyebrow rose in disdain. “I just came by to drop off these wax stamps.” He held up the bag just in case this mare was a complete simpleton.
I been through the darkest of caves and suffering
One hundred steps off the end of the road
Painted with passion, my favorite color
Hope I'm alive when the story gets old |
