Thana | Vagabond | Cultist
The forests of Onea were quiet aside from the sound of her and her mother’s hoofsteps on the fallen leaves that blanketed the ground. They had left early that morning to go to the market, and her mother had dragged her along with her, saying that she couldn’t leave a child alone by herself. ‘Yeah, right, and that’s why you spend so much time with me because you love me so much.’ The young mare had thought to herself. There was no arguing with her mother though, so she would have to just enjoy seeing some different scenery and ignore all of the stabbing insults her mother was already throwing her way. “If you could walk faster, we’d get there sooner. If you didn’t have those fins on your back, you wouldn’t look so much like your father and you’d be a lot more pretty.” Thana felt anger seething beneath her calm exterior, feeling it threatening to bubble over and explode.
Little did Thana know the reason behind her mother bringing her on this trip. She was unaware of the murderous thoughts on the other mare’s mind and the silent prayers to Digend she was saying as she begged for his recognition and respect. Her daughter was the definition of perfection in the Cultist world. She was bloodthirsty and spread chaos without even truly trying, and she knew that she would never meet that level of greatness. That left only one option if she wanted to show Digend her greatness. Thana had to die.
Bothered by her mother’s harsh words, Thana had trotted forward in an attempt to block out the mare’s presence. “What a stupid bitc-” was all she was able to mutter under her breath before she felt a sharp pain in her hindquarters that caused her to whirl around to see what had hurt her. The sight before her was one that she hadn’t expected. Her mother stood there with a wicked, thrilled smile on her face, and a blade was gripped tightly in her telekinesis where Thana could see the blood on its shiny surface. “What the hell?” Her mother’s only response was a laugh before she darted forward, stabbing with lightning speed toward her throat. The hippocampus dodged just in time and felt the blade of the knife brush past her neck. “You’ve always been a pain in my ass, Thana,” her mother started as Thana retreated a safe distance away. “Everyone has talked about how much potential you have as a Cultist. How proud and happy Digend must be with you… but I was the one who brought you into this world wasn’t I? Shouldn’t I have some kind of recognition, some respect?” Thana had never seen her this way, so crazed, but the young mare didn’t budge, didn’t run away with her tail between her legs. Oh no. This was much too fun and interesting. “I have to kill you, oh daughter of mine. That’s the only way Digend will see me.”
The pale mare charged her once more, raising the knife above her head to try and stab her in the head to end the fight as quickly as possible, but Thana saw her coming from a mile away. As she brought the knife down, she made a grab for it, throwing herself against the larger mare as she fought to keep the blade out of the way. She felt her mother try to pull the knife away from her, but Thana only tightened her grip. A small smile worked its way onto her face as she felt the adrenaline pumping through her veins. The uncertainty of making it through this or being killed by her own mother was quite ironic, and a small giggle escaped her lips. The unexpected laughter caused her mother to falter, and Thana ripped the weapon from her grasp and impaled the blade into the other horse’s chest.
The young hippocampus saw the terror in her mother’s eyes as her blood spilled from her wound and began to create a pool beneath her, and it wasn’t long before she fell to the ground, her body still and lifeless. Thana’s fiery eyes couldn’t stop staring at the crimson red blood on the ground and the knife where the hilt stuck out of her mother’s chest. Where fear and tears should have been, however, Thana’s eyes only had admiration and inquisitive interest.
She had killed her mother.
