Private RP between Diony and Little Bird around the main land of Sirith. Diony has journeyed a log way, and has in turn lost his path. Little bird spots him and offers her help to the spindly stallion.
Diony is in this color, and Little bird is in e980a0
With that, our journey begins. . .
The air was crisp and cool in the upper layers of the atmosphere where a young, rose colored pegasus swooped through the clouds above the ocean below her. Her brown eyes scanned the blue-green sea for any signs of land. Her father had given her a break from her Vindicator training today, and since they had traveled to the outskirts of the Talori herd, she was determined to venture further into the tropical jungles to see what she might be able to find. 'Maybe I'll even find a hunky mer-stallion. Wouldn't that be fun?~' Little Bird thought to herself jokingly with a trill of laughter before her eyes widened with glee at the sight of a green splotch of land ahead of her. She dove through a cloud, feeling the water within drench her feathers and pelt before the bright sunlight and warm wind dried her off.
As the land grew closer, Little Bird circled high above the beach for a minute, making sure that there wasn't anything dangerous on the unknown lands. Her careful gaze swept over the white sand beaches until they settled on a dark figure moving wearily through it. They didn't seem to be making much progress across the uneven terrain, and Little Bird narrowed her brow, wondering if they needed any help. Maybe this could be her first solo mission as a Vindicator and help this horse! Little Bird grinned, silently praying to whatever god or goddess was listening that they wouldn't try to attack her as she slowly descended toward the beachy area in front of them. She landed gracefully after having landed thousands of times before though landing on sand was a little new to her. Her maroon wings flapped once to keep herself from thudding heavily on the ground before her hooves finally settled in the uneven sand, and she folded her wings against her sides as her brown eyes focused on the horse in front of her. He was a tired, weary looking, young stallion that was probably only a couple years older than herself, and Little Bird found her normally confident tongue slipping into embarrassment. She'd never really met anyone her own age before, and she wasn't going to pretend that this stallion wasn't good looking though he might be in need of a little grooming and touching up in places where he might not be able to reach himself. Other than that though, he was quite easy on the eyes. "Hi there. Are you alright? You looked pretty exhausted from up there, so I thought I'd stop by to ask if you needed any help or anything." Little Bird finally brought herself to say, casting a friendly smile in the stranger's direction.
Diony had been traveling for a fortnight now and he was none the better for leaving. He would have had more sleep if he stayed, but the stallion wasn't staying for a fifth year, much less would there be an opportunity to do such in equally as long. These thoughts about his actions made his brows furrow and head drop. No doubt he was less than inviting to any passerby.
These sands didn't seem to have an end and the sun was high, which by this time Diony had hoped to have some sense of where he was. He paused and looked to the sea of the hippocampi. That's where his father came from, the merciless mercenary. Diony never faired well in the water, which was no doubt caused by living in Breim during his own prime teaching stage- of which Diony had noted in the foals of the-
No there he goes again, thinking about them. He thought of the sea more, oh how it glittered in the noon-sun. He inhaled the sea's fragrance, and the smell of his father stirred in his memory, too. A gentle smile graced his face as he stepped closer to the incoming tides, the water sweeping around his ankles as he watched the sun dance on the water.
Beyond the stallion there was a soft thud of air hitting the ground. Diony looked to see a Pegasus landing nearby. The two made eye contact of sorts and she began to approach. Diony started to worry. He already had open wounds from escaping, and he was to tired to fight any capture. The Pegasus came into focus and he studied her while lowering his own head. He was bigger than she, but he wanted to make sure she knew he wasn't a threat. The mare's red mane was elegantly windswept in the way that every Pegasus is blessed with. Her wings were deep red and folded. This mare was truly a ruby in the sand, but her words caught his attention more
"Hi there. Are you alright? You looked pretty exhausted from up there, so I thought I'd stop by to ask if you needed any help or anything."
Help? His ears shot forward. Surely this was a rouse. She'd want something in return, but she could see him in his condition. Obviously poor by the lack of fat on him. She could certainly tell he'd be no use as a fighter, he showed scars on his face. She came from the skies over the sea, somewhere he can not go, what could she want with him? Diony began to study her words and voice. Not Aodhian, she was far to kind. He hoped that she was not of talori, for what a life she must lead being of the sky. His head started to hurt from analyzing too much, and he decided that maybe some horses were just nice.
"Yes, I'm fine." He started, gruffly, trying to hide his hoarseness. "I aim to Breim. Could you point me the way?" He added, praying his accent wasn't too noticeable. If anything, maybe she knew the way to his home.
Little Bird waited patiently for the gruff-looking stallion to speak. He probably hadn't exactly been expecting anyone to see him here let alone drop from the sky, so it didn't really surprise her that he was so silent. Her gaze swept over him, seeing the scars on his face and the way he dipped his head. He was a bit taller and bigger than herself, but he didn't exactly look like a threat to her in the shape that he was in. From the looks of it, he looked like he had been through a rough time, and as her eyes landed on the large wound on his side, they widened a little bit.
For the first time, Little Bird wondered if this horse was from the Talori herd. Her father had warned her about the sacrifices that they made and how they chopped off the wings of pegasi and threw them into the ocean to drown. A shiver ran down her spine at the thought of his wound being from a pegasus that had escaped the same fate. He didn't really look like someone who could do such atrocities, but as her father had told her, you could never fully trust any stranger in this world. Everyone had their ulterior motives to their actions... which could be exactly what he was thinking about her offer to help now that she thought of it.
Her ears swiveled back toward him as the stallion finally spoke, and she nodded her head, causing her mane to fall slightly into her face. "I can point you in the right direction to Breim. I've only been there one time, but I didn't get a chance to go underground or anything. Are you from there?" The pegasus asked curiously before turning her head to look at the ocean around them. Breim definitely wasn't in that direction or that one. She thought to herself, mapping out Hireath in her head the way she normally did she wasn't entirely sure where someplace was. Her eyes lit up when she finally remembered and envisioned the stallion's destination. "Breim is in that direction. It might be easier to follow the coast since the forests here get pretty dense from what I hear." Little Bird answered, pointing with her nose toward the northeast.
She looked back at the stranger with a slightly concerned expression. He didn't really look like he was up to walking the rest of way to Breim in the condition that he was in, and for some reason, the thought of him leaving so soon was a little heartbreaking. Maybe it was because it had been months... or maybe even a year since she had come into contact with anyone else aside from her parents. "If you'd like, I can travel with you a little ways to make sure you're headed in the right direction, and maybe I can fly up to see if there's any fresh water in the forest or something." She offered, casting him a small smile. "My name is Little Bird by the way. I'm a Vagabond." Little Bird introduced herself with a dip of her head, leaving out the fact that she was a Vindicator. Her father had told her to keep that as much of a secret as she could since a lot of horses didn't exactly like the Vindicators or Vagabonds in general for whatever reason. Maybe if he proved to be nice, she'd tell him that she was one if he asked, but for now, she'd leave that part of herself in the dark.
Diony watched as the mare looked around, her silky mane shaking loose. Her words registered with him and he looked to where she originally pointed. The woods were dark and his heart dropped. Surely there were beasts there to hunt him. She asked him if he was of Breim. He thought for a while. We was a vagabond in all but name for so long, but that was where he was foaled. "Yes. I've been gone so long and I need to return." he added, as vaguely as possible. When she offered to travel with him he gave her a light nod. He was a social soul and he needed something to get his spirits up. Surely a kind mare would help. "My name is Little Bird by the way. I'm a Vagabond."
Bird? How comical. "My name is Dionysus Baudin. Please call me Diony, and if my accent is too much trouble, please tell me and I'll try to. . . Tone it down." Diony said warily. The Aodhians had trouble sometimes with the Frenchness in his fathers voice, but certainly a Vagabond is more accustomed to different accents.
As the two walked the coast, Diony took this time to look Little Bird over. She was a lean mare, well muscled and feminine, and her wings were marvelous. Diony, however didn't like the formality in her name. Little Bird was too long. If the two were to travel together, then he'd need a new name for her. "Little" didn't describe her well enough, and "Bird" was to blunt for a magnificent creature as she. For now she was a guide, so formalities would be fine. But maybe this little birdie would see him again. . . He certainly wouldn't mind.
She flicked her ears in his direction as he answered her question, and she nodded at his response. "Really? I've never met anyone from Breim before. I've only been there a couple of times before though, so I didn't really get a chance to see much of anything there." Bird added with a small chuckle. During her father's brief teachings of the different herds and their lifestyles, she faintly remembered the Breim have stayed in their underground tunnels and caverns since the Smothering, so it was a little peculiar to see one this far away from his home. Maybe he was like herself and enjoyed a little adventure every now and then. Part of her wanted to ask, but she knew that it wasn't any of her business why he had left or why he was returning back.
The roan mare gave him a rather sheepish grin when she saw him weigh her name in his mind. Almost everyone she told had something to say about her strange name, and she almost always silently cursed her parents for naming her something so odd. Little Bird listened with interest as his accent came out a little stronger than his first gruff words, and for some reason, it brought a little smile to her face. At his offer, the mare giggled, shaking her head. "Don't worry about it, Diony. I've heard plenty of accents before, and I catch on pretty quickly. Plus, yours isn't bad." 'In fact, it's pretty darn charming, but I'm definitely not going to say that out loud.' Little Bird thought to herself.
As the two of them set off down the shoreline, she stuck to the harder sand near the water where the waves washed over the sand and her hooves with each step she took. The ocean amazed and scared her at the same time. She was amazed by its beauty and vastness, but its depths frightened her. She wasn't exactly a strong swimmer, and if her feathers got too wet, she wouldn't be able to fly, so she'd sink to the dark depths. Taking her mind off of her fears, Little Bird turned her attention back to the stallion she was traveling with. "So, Diony, what is Breim like underground? Or did you not live there for very long to remember much of it?" She asked curiously, wanting to get to know more about all of these strange, new places, and of course, she wouldn't mind learning a little bit more about him.
Diony smiled at her words. He noticed her watching the water with heavy thoughts on her mind. He knew most Pegasi preferred not to get their wings wet, much less near the ocean like this. This Vagabond bird was definitely braver than most of her kind, and certainly nicer than most. Little Bird asked him about Breim which lead him to ask himself about Breim.
" I lived there for my first few years with my mother, and my father visited often. He was also a Vagabond- a sell sword of the sea- and also the source of this voice. He told me of his many great adventures in battle and that inspired a sense of adventure in me. The tunnels there are easy enough to navigate once you have a basic layout of Breim. I knew mum was just east of the main area-the one with the skylight, and if you get lost, odds are you'll eventually run into someone who knows the way. Though I only lived there for a short while. When I was old enough to hold my own without a dam, I wanted to go out with my father and have my own adventures. It took a lot of convincing and deal making, but Mum agreed after a long while. My first journey out, I was too scared to leave the area just outside the caves. Plus I missed mum too much, but then after a couple years, I had been to the edges of our realm. It's been so long since I've gone home, easily 4 years give or take," the stallion told the mare as they walked. It made him homesick to think about, but he would return soon enough.
He'll I can't even remember how to get home I've been gone so long.
He looked to the mare again before asking her about her childhood. "Your turn"
"Little Bird." he added with a smirk and a nod
She listened closely as he began to speak, and while he went on about his home and how he had ended up here rather than the underground tunnels of his herd, she tried to imagine what the dark caverns and tunnels looked like and how his home must look. Living underground didn't exactly seem like something she would enjoy too much since she was used to wide open spaces and the big sky to fly around in, but she'd still love the chance to at least visit. "I'd imagine seeing the outside world for the first time was pretty scary after seeing only rocky tunnels and stuff for the first few years of your life."
Little Bird wanted to ask more about this adventurous father of his, but Diony didn't exactly seem like he was still around. Maybe something had happened between the two of them, and maybe it had something to do with that large wound on his side. The young mare pushed back her imaginative thoughts, not wanting to form any crazy theories about the stallion beside her that she was just starting to get to know.
When he turned the limelight in her direction, the roan mare chuckled softly, ruffling her feathers before resting them back down again. She'd never really been asked to tell someone about herself before, and she wasn't extremely sure where to even begin. "Well, I've always been a Vagabond, traveling around with my mother and father. My father's a pegasus like myself, and my mother is a horse. We've been all over Hireath for my parent's job which is good for me because I've got an adventurous side too, so I get the chance to explore. My father has been training me since I could walk, so that I know how to defend myself and fight, but my mother doesn't really want to have anything to do with me." Little Bird admitted with a shrug of her shoulders. She wasn't really upset that her mother didn't talk to her at all except for the occasional eye roll or sarcastic comment, but it would be nice to have a mother that actually loved her.
"Other than that, I haven't really done anything else aside from traveling." She said with a smirk in Diony's direction.
"I'd imagine seeing the outside world for the first time was pretty scary after seeing only rocky tunnels and stuff for the first few years of your life." Diony gave a steady nod at her words. It was scary at first, but everything is when it starts. Even this companionship was, but now its not quite as frightful. Little Bird stretched her wings before recounting her past to him, and he watched her feathers closely. They were truly beautiful.
She told him of her woes, and he couldn't help but be intrigued. This mare was a marvel of her own. She'd surely traveled more than he had, but she showed none of it like he did. No scars to be seen, only freckles here and there. They were approaching the ends of the shore now and Diony looked to her for direction.
Once Little Bird had finished speaking, she let things fall into silence. It wasn't an awkward silence though. The waves lapping on the shore created some background noise while a few sea gulls squawked overhead as they flew up and down the shore in search of whatever it is that sea gulls did.
Every so often, she turned her warm brown eyes in her new companion's direction, watching as he forced his weary body to move forward. She wondered again where he had been and why he seemed so exhausted. She was a traveler herself, and she wasn't scarred or thin looking. Some would probably say that she was a little on the plump side if anything if they didn't know about her strenuous exercise regime. The Vindicator inside of her wanted to help him, give him some food and water, anything to help, though she guessed that she was technically helping now.
As the shoreline disappeared into the jungle, the roan mare frowned, peering into the dense forest. "Hm. Well, it seems we won't be traveling on the beach anymore. I'll fly up to see if there's a pond or something nearby so that we can take a little water-break before we keep going. The jungle can get a little... hairy." The young mare said, giving him a nod of her head that sent some of her long curly hair into her face before she unfurled her russet wings. With a few running steps and hard flaps of her wings, the pegasus mare was up in the air, swooping over the jungle before she quickly spotted a small pond nearby that seemed promising. Little Bird quickly returned to the beach beside Diony, landing gracefully in the white sand before casting him a bright smile. "There's a pond not too far into the jungle that we can stop at before continuing. I can lead the way." Little Bird stated and took the first few confident steps into the dense vegetation before glancing behind her to make sure that Diony was following.
The silence between them was acceptable. There was a lull in their dialog and their scenery as they passed into the depths of a forest scene. The mare offered water before bounding up in a substantial way. Her power was amazing, something Diony didn't know he liked. Diony's attention was also brought to the fact that he had been enjoying her company more than his thirst and hunger beckoned him.
Before long, Little Bird Returned and brought him to a near by pond. as they walked inward, Little Bird shot him a few looks to insure he was following her. As the pond came into sight, Diony sped up his pace and passed the mare as they came to an opening. Vines draped from the trees, but it was a clearing just the same. A few creatures scattered when the two arrived. The water they had gathered around had a few water flowers scattered here and there and the water was deep blue with varying depths. Diony took a long awaited drink and stepped lightly into the water. The coolness relieved the pain his new cuts sent and the water eased out dirt and blood.
Diony turned over his shoulder and connected eyes with Little bird. "Though our journey has not been long, surely there is some wariness in you. Come cool off, Little bird." the stallion beckoned. Swimming was always his favorite thing to do, but the sea was no place for open wounds.
Little forest creatures scattered in their wake as Little Bird lead Diony toward the pond that she had seen from above. The dense vegetation was a little harder to navigate than the open skies, but it wasn't long before the trees and vines opened up into a small clearing where a lovely blue pond sat awaiting them. Its deepest depths were a dark blue that faded to crystal clear shallows. The Talori horses certainly had it nice when it came to landscapes. The tropics was probably one of Little Bird's favorites when it wasn't blistering hot that is.
As Diony walked past her in a hurry to get a drink of water, Little Bird walked at a more leisurely pace to the pond, dipping her head carefully once she had reached the edge to get a drink. Her brown eyes glanced around them carefully, looking for any signs of predators or possibly Talori patrols. The Talori didn't mind Vagabonds within their borders, but being a pegsus in a place where they were sacrificed for enjoyment, she didn't really want to run into any of them.
The young mare lifted her head at Diony's invitation and took a hesitant step into the water. Water was one of her biggest fears. Something about the amount of water and being unable to breath in its dark depths was terrifying to her, but this little pond probably wasn't too deep, right? "Sure, I could use a little swim." Little Bird murmured, walking out into the pool until the refreshing water washed over her shoulders. The cool water relieved some of her aching joints and muscles, and the roan mare let out a quiet sigh of relief. "I have to admit that when I first got here, I didn't think I'd be able to get over worrying about Talori horses capturing me and sacrificing me for Cascade, but this." She said, looking around at the tropical jungle around them before resting her gaze on Diony. "This is very nice."
