Prompt: With many of the Raiders leaving Onea to assist in the southern war, it is vital that all able bodied members of the herd are trained and reaching their full potential, the Scouts and Valkyries in particular, as it is they who are to pick up the Raider’s slack. Accordingly, two senior Scouts are sent on a low-risk circuit, to further the training of one of the youngest in their number. It has been an uneventful circuit through the lower forests, resplendent in autumn colours, and the light is starting to fade. Best make camp soon.

[/div][/div] A light orange glow enveloped itself over the land. The light poured through the canopy of the trees and wrapped itself around every surface it could touch. The travel from Skeldr that had started in the early morning had been long and now the evening had begun to settle in and go silent. The birds and other animals quieting down for the night. Light hooves stepped across the forest floor, setting a light crunch underneath their hooves.
Alvane walked just slightly ahead. Though stopping to letting the two younger, smaller horses catch up. Her attention was grabbed by a blood red leaf, plucked from the branches of an old elm tree by Alya’s soft chilled breeze and watched it twirl and dance to the ground, landing in amongst other brightly coloured autumn leaves. The mare turned to face Cass and Ales. The colt trotting happily along the scouting path. Though noticing how dark it almost was, Her ears noticeably twitched as she seemed to stare into space and then break eye contact with the emptiness. Letting the two pass by her.
“Perhaps it's time to set up camp.” the mare said aloud. “It’ll be dark soon and I believe we can all use a rest.” She looked around to Cass to see If she would agree and then to Ales, His Golden Eagle familiar glaring back at her. “There's a small clearing among the trees just up ahead.” She let her feet guide her forward again. Catching up and began walking along side Ales, putting him in the middle of her and Cass. Though still keeping at least a 2 horse distance from him as he cheerily trotted along. His high energy irritated her a little though she understood his excitement to be on an actual mission and far away from Skeldr Town.
“So Ales. How long have you been a scout for ?” The mare perked up. If she was to tolerate him for a few day, she may as well get to know him a little bit. Kids were not her thing, though she was happy that she wasn’t alone with him. Otherwise, she would have been rather annoyed.
“And what about you Cass, I’ve seen you around but never knew you were a Scout. Actually, I thought you were a Valkyrie” She carried on after Ales. She shuffled her cloak and harness, now beginning to dig into her coat. The sun nearly disappearing over the horizon.

Ales trotted happily behind the other two scouts, Jaggy going back and forth between gliding in the air above him and hitching a ride on his shoulder. They had been walking like this for most of the day, since it was just the three of them on this circuit, and the primary goal was for him to get training with other scouts. Ales had spent most of the way watching the trees and trying to memorize the path around him, or at least the important parts. Like the tree not far from Skeldr Town that had a funny face in the bark that faced towards Mt. Skeldr, or the group of pines that all had one side shaved off that faced a couple of the herder lands, or even the weird rock that had a point that looked like it was holding the sun at one point in the journey.
Ales stopped slightly, snapping out of his thoughts and allowing Jaggy to land on his head as Alvane told the group to stop to make camp for the night.
"Sure" Ales muttered, not sure if he had any say, or really wanted any, at this point.
Ales flicked his ears towards the leader of their small group when his name was mentioned. "Not for long. Dad didn't want me to be a scout at all, honestly I don't think he wanted me to leave the house. He gets a bit scared over me, my big brother, and my sisters, especially since Aly and Addy came back from one of their last patrols, and Aly got hurt. I actually thought it was really cool, and Aly was being super brave, but the plants around the house started shaking when she was talking about it, which means Dad was feeling upset or sad, so she stopped. It took me a whole month to convince Dad to let me leave the house afterwards, much less be a scout." He started his excited tirade. "All my "missions" have just been around the farmlands around Skeldr Town, and inside the town helping merchants and the like. That's why I'm really excited." Post #1 | Word Count: 359

Cassiopeia | Scout
The trek through the wilds had certainly been something. Their mission? Train some young colt how to be a better scout. Cassi felt it was a mission better left to wet nurses, but she wouldn't be caught refusing an order from the War Lord. At least while she still was the War Lord. The shorter mule had lagged a bit, she wasn't excited. Much of her clan and family had been sent off, either to actually defend Onea or to march down to the blazing sands of Sedo and make war with the Serorans. And with all the walking even swathed in her fur cape, after miles of walking she was cold to the bone. Annoyed and tired, when Alvane proposed setting up camp Cassi was more than happy to nod her head in solemn agreement. To get a fire blazing to warm her body and it certainly would give a more positive end to what had been a very long day.
It took Cassi a moment to realize Alvane was still talking, her long ears lazily flopping over to attempt to pay somesort of attention to her. She listened to Alvane and Ales chatter back and forth while she continued to trek ahead a few yard to what she figured was a suitable place to set up camp for the night. But when their leader said her name again her ears went pert and she tossed a look to her over her shoulder. Cassiopeia snorted, deep and throaty and full of bitter sarcasm, "No. I'm no Valkyrie. I didn't need some special agenda lead by the War Lord to get where I am." she rumbled, lifting a foreleg to pierce her cloven hoof through the bed of fallen foliage to toss it behind her. She dug through the musky compost searching for the packed down ground. Cassi made a circle, big enough for the three of them to lay down comfortably. Leaves and sticks weren't the most pleasant thing to sleep on, "I've actually been a Scout for only about three.. almost four years now. Before that I ran with some Raiders my father knew and even before that Kronos trained me. So I've been pretty much doing this job almost all my life." she shrugged, still concentrated on her task of clearing a spot for them.
Cassi eventually turned to look at her companions, "If you two wanted to find some dry tender and wood I'll finish doing this."

Alvane smirked at the young colt's comment about his father. I reminded her of her own. Over protective, literally suffocating with love. Alvane had met Edmond before, though she had found him to be rather serious and in fact boring. But that's the way she saw every other stone circle member. She never knew he was actually a family man. Alvane kept walking forward, only half listening to Ales as they made their way uphill. Once he mentioned Aly and Addy, her ears picked up. The last time Alvane was sent on a mission, those two were sent with her and a group of scouts and it didn’t end well. She actually began to blush a little, laughing on the inside at that experience.
They quickly reached the tiny clearing of grass and fallen leaves. She carried on to Cass, Agreeing with her about Hira’s glorified mares and helped a little a clearing the spot. “I highly agree” She turned to face Cass.“I do not need to be chosen by Hira to pick up a sword and defend what I need to” The mare unhitched her harness, slipping it and her cloak over her neck and dropping them to the ground. Her forelock falling into her eyes.
She again raised her her head and nodded to Cassi about dry tender. “Ales, with me” Wavering to let him follow. Alvane stepped onward into the tree-line looking for anything burnable. Walking only about 30 meters forward to a slim tree. To anyone else, it looked like a normal tree. But to her, it was one of her favourites. She plucked something from a low hanging branch and turned to the young colt who had hung back a little bit
“Hey, Ales! Catch!” She threw an apple. Ripe with the coming autumn. Large and bright red in colour. A little giggle escaped her mouth. She turned again to the tree to pluck a few more for the group to eat. “My father used to take me here when he was training me. This used to be our favourite circuit to go on. It was always the prettiest” She smiled to herself, her eyes falling to the ground. Alvane held the apples in a bunch with her Teke and almost floated forward, moving around the camp in a perimeter like fashion, looking for dead branches and other dry material. Picking up what she could and passing some of it to Ales as she went. Only returning to the clearing when they couldn’t carry anymore.
Alvane walked up to Cass and handed her some of the apples. Dropping the firewood to the other side of herself. “Best Apples in Onea” She quickly proclaimed with a deviating smile. And continued to raise one to her lips, taking a chunk out of it. “Would you like to build a small fire or shall I ?” She offered Cass, walking onward, near the center of the site.
The sun was almost gone now and the sky changing dark blue. The moons on the horizon.

Ales listened quietly as the others voiced their opinions on Hira's "mare club", as Dad had called it once before when he thought that his sisters weren't listening. It was interesting to the colt that even other mares in the herd had the same opinion, and a solid reasoning for it too. After all, he did sorta fight for his right to serve and defend his herd without the War Lord choosing him a glorified position, well it was more utilizing his father's inability to say no to him, even when he was annoyed or frightened for his son's safety, but it was still hard Ales watched intently as Cassiopeia started setting up an area for the three to rest, clearing it of sticks and debris, before attempting to help by picking up a few rocks that were rather large and started placing them outside the circle. He hardly heard Alvane's call for him to follow, when he dropped one of the rocks and ran after.
She stopped at a small tree, one that didn't look that good for fire tinder, and threw an apple at him. "Hey Ales, Catch!" He barely caught the bright red fruit before it would bonk him in the nose, giggling as he took a bite of the fruit, happy emotion bubbling in his mind, almost seeming to want to seep out into the world around him. He looked at Alvane cautiously, hoping that he didn't accidently mess with her emotions, as he did with Addy a while ago, making her run terrified at a small spider that he had been hiding from. (Boy did he get a lecture about control that day...) The last thing he wanted to do, was get on everyone's bad sides because he messed with their emotions by accident (Not to mention it was tiring if he tried too long and he didn't want to wear himself out.)
Thankfully if he did do such a thing, Alvane didn't seem to notice, talking about the memories she had with her father when they trained on this circuit, and passing sticks and twigs for him to hold all the while.
"I wish Dad and I could train like that, or anyone really." He said, not really knowing if the mare was paying attention. "Aly, Addy, and Kath sometimes teach me some fighting moves, and Dad tries to teach me how to control my blessing sometimes, but I've never had a chance to run a circuit. I've asked Dad if I could follow him on his Stone Circle duties, but he says it's 'too boring and serious for a colt like you. You should focus on just being a kid for now.'" He told her, deepening his voice to "imitate" his father's words.
As they walked back to where Cassiopeia had set up camp, Ales placed his fire kindling in the middle of the circle as Alvane did, stepping back and watching the older two.

Cassi half-heartedly listened to their conversation. They talked about family, how they had been trained. Cassi didn't like lingering on the past. A lot of it was filled with painful memories. Kronos had taught her, yes, but he taught all of his children. She wasn't the first to face his ire. Though, without his guidance Cassiopeia may have never survived the hardships of life that she already faced. She sucked in a deep, calming breath, listening to them chitter about an apple. Being alive now as better than being dead, she supposed. And even if their little training mission wasn't the most exciting thing she had ever done, she was still a functional part of her herd. The mention of a fire warmed her soul and soon her bones, she hoped. Cassiopeia turned to look at Alvane, "Make him do it." she said pointing to Ales with her nose, "We're supposed to be training him and if he wishes to stay alive in the wilds of Onea, he must know how to start a fire." she rumbled, looking at the young boy with a sharp glint in her eyes. He had the passion to learn, but Cassi had no interest in making it easy on him. Life was a struggle. Life was hard. Cassiopeia wasn't even Ales' age when she made her solo trek from Valore to Skeldr. She turned her full attention to Ales, "You do know how to make a fire, correct?" she asked, taking a few steps out of her cleared spot so he'd have plenty of room to set up and start their fire.

As your small party begins to look for firewood, raised voices echo through the dusky woods. Alarmed, you seek the source of the noise. As you creep through the forest, the sun sets and you discover the twinkle of a campfire through the trees. A group of travelers, some of whom are as young as your apprentice Ales, are arguing around a bonfire. A large mare waves a burning branch mid-argument, a trio of foals watching at her feet. What is all this ruckus in the middle of the woods? You decide to approach the campers, and maybe help resolve the conflict. Head to War-Forged Plot 408: A Brief Respite.
