Helene
Frustration threatened to consume Helene as the whole group of them started thinking over the answer to the riddle. She watched as Saleen trotted over to the map quickly, Helene could practically see the gears in her head grinding together to work out this riddle. Perhaps there was even smoke coming out from her ears from thinking so hard. Wanting to help her friend, Helene trotted over to the table and stood beside the Pegasus. She listened to Saleen explain the marks on the maps and where they were. Helene cocked her head as she stared at the map. A small pang of memories hit her heard at she watched the Mullah in training gesture to the forested area between Sedo and Sirith. It’d been the area in which she had been born. Where she had spent a small part of her formative years with her mother until they both met with her father, joining the herd in the end. The painted mare had many fond memories residing there. When Saleen motioned to the Valley of Melodies, Helene cocked her head in the other direction. The mare thought the poem over in her head and slowly an idea came to her. “Perhaps we should tell the adults about this, at least eventually. We can make a caravan to travel to the area.” Helene suggested. It’d be an exciting trip that’s for sure, but perhaps it would be best left to the adults to organize. Shifting in place, the dappled horse stared at the map as she thought. “Perhaps there’s a house, or a temple there? The riddle mentions the family, but it also mentions a door being unlocked when we present something. If that riddle is as old as we think it is, it’s safe to say that any buildings may be buried under sand, but we could find it eventually!” Helene said excitedly, happy that she was thinking of something to contribute. Thinking more on her theory, Helene looked at the map with determination. “However, first we need to find what these family members have lost.” the mare said

Haven || Tenderfoot || Status: Trying His Best
Haven was deep in thought, listening intently to the theories and suggestions, but so far none of it seemed to be correct. He bit his lower lip, the gears turning in his head as he called back all the lessons his mama had taught him at night before he fell asleep. He may not have been in this world for very long, but he'd be damned if he was going to let this riddle get the best of him. It would feel like letting his mama down somehow, and he just couldn't let that happen. Then suddenly an idea struck him, his ears perking up as he stepped towards Saleen.
"Maybe...it isn't land. What if the riddle means the sky?" A flicker of nervous excitement was set alight in his gut and he had to take a moment to breathe deeply before he could explain, "Cause north could mean straight up instead of actually north right?" He tilted his head as he recalled the riddle, "The coals could be the stars, since they can only come out at night like the riddle said..." doubt began to crawl into his mind as his brows furrowed, "Though I don't know what the rest would mean...or how we'd get the cube into the sky..." he sat down, frowning dejectedly, "Ah, maybe my guess was a little wild. Unless..." he perked up a little, stretching his neck to see the map, "Where's the highest point in Sedo?"

SALEEN SERORAN MULLAH APPRENTICE
Yes.... yes........ the red filly thought to herself, chewing on her tongue as the other children tried solving the riddle. All of their assumptions were good ones, and all made sense, but where would they start?
"God's Landing," she mumbled in response to Haven's curiosity, "but it will take us at least a day to even get there... aren't we all getting a little impatient?" The pegasus narrowed her brows as she examined the riddle again, and she began putting her brain back to work.
Once more, Saleen's eyes widened. "Wait a second," she exclaimed to her peers. "On a wall on the north side of Osulas, there's a carving! I've seen it, but nobody is really sure what it symbolizes, or even means! Maybe we should start there? It's close, I know we're all tired, but maybe it will lead somewhere." Saleen stood to her hooves excitedly, folded the golden paper behind a wing and walked toward the shrine doors, looking back to her friends. "Don't lose hope," she demanded, and threw the heavy doors open, letting the hot Sedo sun bathe her once more. 6 | 186

Noatak
A twinge of emotion seemed to seep within his small frame. Everyone spoke so freely, their ideas even odd, still were spoken no one feared to be mocked or reprimanded. How did others even those a bit younger then him gain such a skill? It made him sigh a bit, ears falling back, he heart stammering as he kept quiet, to uneasy to speak so freely even among friends. His nervous nature took over, and he was lost inside himself.
Though he looked to the others a bit, nodding his head to them as they spoke. Father always said it was important to show he was listening to others, and acknowledge them. so he did. But still words did not escape his lips, nodding and making light eye contact was all he could muster, and he hoped that would be enough. Shuffling on hooves nervously, he glanced at the map, and then back at the cube that was finished.
Though he was drawn back to the conversation at hand, by Saleen, she had an idea and seemed eager by it. Noa easily feed on that optimist energy and could feel a smile growing on his face. "Let's go." he whispered out, his mood already lifting. Though he eyed the Pearl and Haven, wondering if they would want to follow suit. Noa looked to Tiga and offered a bright smile, before turning to Saleen and Haven. "Ive never seen the carving before." he remarked gently, it seemed the small one was gaining a bit of courage.
It didnt take long for him to make up his mind and trot towards the opening of the temple, ready to start this journey, ready to get away from the puzzles and relics, that left him feleing less then what he truly was. He eyed the others with a bright and friendly smile. His little wings stayed snug against his form. Though he looked at Pearl and Haven, and mustered up some courage before trotting over to them. "Think I could walk with you both?" he asked. Suddenly feeling his cheeks begin to warm, his courage wavering as he nearly stuttered out the last bit.

Helene
Helene was starting to actually, finally, starting get excited about this adventure. She flashed a grin to Haven and praised him with a "Good job Haven!" and a telekinetic ruffling of his short mane. As they always say, more heads are better than one! The painted mare looked at Saleen as the younger mare explained her theory, about the carving on the other side of the city. Helene was starting to get more and more anxious to check this out, to see if it was part of the riddle. An excited giggle slipped past the mare's lips as she made her way quickly over to the Pegasus, more trotting than walking really. "Let's go children!" Helene said excitedly as she trotted past Saleen, standing at the top of the steps to watch the children file out of the temple. She'd bring up the rear once Saleen was done holding open the door and was down the steps. Out of the corner of her eye she saw Noatak looking at the young Talori royals, she couldn't make out what he was saying thanks to his soft voice, but she was sure the young colt was offering to walk with the younger children. It filled the young mare with happiness that the little one was attempting to make friends with the children, slowly coming out of his shell. Maybe it would help in the future.

SALEEN SERORAN MULLAH APPRENTICE
Perhaps the priestess had exaggerated when she said the carving wasn't far. The shrine was near the center of Osulas, and the carving was a few miles to the north, on the city's borders' wall. By the time they arrived, the sun was beginning to set in brilliant reds and purples.
Saleen admired the carving for a moment. It depicted a life-sized family of three horses -a stallion on the left, a mare in the center, and a foal on the right. Below each was a large basin; the one under the stallion and mare's were empty, yet the foal's was filled with a dark, gooey substance.
Quietly, the pegasus removed the riddle from her pack and held it up beside the large carving. When the sunset hit the golden foil, it revealed the exact carving they were looking at embedded in the text. "This is it," she declared, looking back at her peers with a beam in her eyes.
But, what to do with the basins? Saleen huddled close to the group and re-read the riddle.
"In the North there lives a family, each lost something dear..."There was a start. They were to collect objects and place them into each bowl. "The brave father lost his heart, his courage died within, Only in the dead of night can the coals be rekindled again."Little Noatak piped up without missing a beat; this part proved itself obvious once he made his remark. They should collect coals, he suggested -or rather as the riddle itself did so- and wait until the sun fully set before lighting them. It made perfect sense, everyone agreed. He and Helene quickly left to find some.
But with each verse, it got more complicated.
"The kind mother lost her way, her wings gave out in flight, Only a gift from Alya herself is bound to make things right." They pondered the possibilities. A physical gift from Alya was a rare occurrence, but Haven quickly pointed out that the mare in the carving was a pegasus, just like Alya and her children. Surely an entire pegasus would not fit into the basin, but perhaps a bundle of feathers would do. Saleen volunteered to use some of hers, and plucked a trio from her wings. She handed them to Haven, and the little hippocampus placed them into the second basin.
Noatak and Helene finally returned with the coals, and the Sultan's son carefully placed them into the first basin.
Finally, the third verse. "The dear child lost their faith, their spirit doomed to drown, Remove all of their childish fears and be met with great renown."Each of the children looked into the third bowl, the dark goo perfectly still within, casting their reflection. Saleen was confused, as it was already full. But perhaps it was the symbol for his drowning. "Maybe we should empty it," Helene suggested. Saleen looked back to the riddle. Yes, it said to remove their childish fears. She nodded at the older horse, and Helene promptly emptied the bowl into the sand. The strange substance created a pool at their hooves.
By the time they were finished, the sun had set and the stars began to come out. "The coals," Saleen exclaimed. The pegasus struck a match and handed it to Noatak, giving him the honours. He tossed it into the basin, and immediately they ignited.
Moments later, the wall began to make noises, just as the cube had. It sounded like something was unlocking from inside. Saleen let out a gasp and took a step back, one hoof pressing into the dark liquid. Each of the children followed suit, moving back as the large wall opened like a door, revealing what hid within.
Inside was the most magical thing Saleen had ever seen. A magnificently crafted weapon, coppery gold in colour, covered in markings and engravings that represented her herd's goddess. Surely, a gift from Alya herself.
The priestess immediately found herself on her knees in awe, nearly bowing at the object and thanking the goddess over and over for bringing her to find it. Surely it would help in the war to come.
Saleen was overwhelmed with honour, as a tear fell from her eye. 7 | 705

Pearl smiled warmly at her brother trying to pick apart the riddle, there was some swelling of pride in her chest and she wiggled her little tail happily. There was so much to do in one day, the thought of it was exhausting enough. Saleen wanted to take the group to carvings which she thought would be related to the cube.
The filly was doubting whether it would be a smart idea for her to go along. Perhaps it would be better for her to stay behind whilst everyone else could go and explore. She turned to ask Saleen if she could wander home, go get some rest and hide from the sunlight. "Think I could walk with you both?" Her head turned slowly to gaze at Noatak. Her eyes flicked over to her brother, Haven before back to the older colt. "Oh...Uhm..." Her skin felt like it was on fire at the question. She couldn't just go home when she had now been asked to accompany this colt along with her brother. Pearl swallowed and ducked her head with a small smile. "I see no problem with it..." Lies. Horrible. Lies. There was a big issue. She wanted to go home and hide under her woven blanket and sleep for eternity. Now? She had to walk. Walk in that heat again, walk the long distance and it was because this colt wanted to walk with her and her brother.
Pearl swallowed and bowed her head to Noatak, lifting a hoof. "My name is Pearl," She offered him another smile, warmer this time. Can't be too suspicious of every winged thing. Unless it was Saleen. The older mare had too much energy that Pearl was jealous.
