Prompt: A group of chevaliers is dispatched by the king to a rendezvous in Onea, where they will join forces with their War-Forged allies to begin the war effort in Sedo. Their long journey from Valore seems to be nearing completion as the band of soldiers crosses the border into Onea, and they march onto the War Lord’s Road toward the heart of their ally’s territory.
In their path, however, is an unexpected barrier constructed of massive felled trees, blocking the only path through the dense and unfamiliar forest. Preventing their passage are the anti-war Vindicators, whose sturdy new barricades on the War-Lord’s Road hinder the progress of slavers and warmongers. At their side is a capable mercenary, ready to aid them in their fight to cripple the might of Aodh.

Godric Godric kneeled. He kneeled with his sword drawn and stabbed into the earth, head bowed, his ears back and his eyes closed as he pressed his forehead to the hilt.
Godric kneeled and he prayed.
Godric had never believed in the gods. He had stopped believing in them the day he saw his father fight for the first time. He had thought, If there are gods, why do they watch their children suffer? Why are we left to scramble in the dark, a toy for another's amusement? He had spat on their names the day he had escaped, the day he had left his parents for a life worse than death. He cursed them when they took his eye from him, left to forge his own path. He had pitied them when he had fallen in love with Beartooth, wondering if they knew what love was, knew that feeling nestled deep in the very being of a person who loved another so much. Pitied them when he met his daughter for the first time. He had never believed, had never thanked them. Had never stared into the stars and wondered if they were really there.
But now he prayed. He prayed that his dear wife, his heart and soul, his Beartooth was safe with them. Safe and away from all the terrible things that were happening in the world. He prayed that she never have the need to steal again, to worry if someone was following her or trying to harm her. Safe in the stars, forever dancing in the dark sky above.
Godric furrowed his brow and stood, pulled his sword from the deep earth and flicked the dirt from its steel. He sheathed it and made his way to his fellow Vindicators, nodding once at each in a silent greeting. He stood beside Ithran, ready and willing to fight. Godric turned his gaze to the sky once more. He thought of his daughter Griffin, tucked far away and safe, dreaming peacefully of the days that would be spent with her father. She did not know her mother was dead, did not know who the gods were. But she would learn, learn as all children did.
She would face the world, teeth bared and heart beating.

"A wise man fears three things: the sea at storm, a night with no moon, and the anger of a gentle man." __________________________________I T H R A N Vagabond | Vindicator
Ithran sniffed the fresh, sharp air of the pine forests as the night winds ruffled his coat. Low-lying mist covered the road, and there was a faint chill. The barricade behind him was tall, sturdy, and studded with sharp, pointed pine branches that bristled menacingly in the fading light. They'd been waiting for hours.
He'd been told the Chevaliers would come through this point some time today. He'd expected them earlier, but wasn't terribly surprised that they were late. They'd probably been taking it easy, those pampered, lazy excuses for soldiers.
As dusk fell and settled into twilight around them, he made a mental check of his companions. He could feel Godric standing beside him, battle-scarred and battle-ready. Vigil, intense and silent as always, stood to the side of the road, invisible in the twilight thanks to the necklaces Dinah had given them. Ithran wasn't sure what to make of the stallion. He seemed a good fighter, but something about him felt... off. Jinxx he didn't know well either. The mercenary was a talented fighter, he knew that much, but he'd not had a chance to talk to her beyond discussing today's plan. Hoepfully Dinah's coin and promises would keep her loyal to their cause.
And Brielle...
Where was Brielle? He couldn't see her in the trees and could only hope she'd stayed put in the clearing where he'd left her. A battlefield was no place for a child, even one as resourceful and clever as Bri. He felt surprised, suddenly, at the level of concern he felt for her. He'd only known her a few short months, and already she was like the little sister he'd never had. If he had a chance he'd have to send someone to look for her before the Chevaliers came.
With an effort he forced himself to focus. He'd fought before, but this open provocation, this endless waiting, was getting to him. He fought the urge to go over the plan one more time. Ithran would stand alone in front of the barricade and confront them, hopefully driving them back without revealing himself or removing the . If it came to fighting, which it surely would, he'd be reinforced by the other Vindicators. That was the plan.
Once the attack started? Well, no horse could predict the future. All they could do was try to leave their mark. He focused on listening for the hoofbeats that would surely be coming any time now.
Somehow he was still startled when he heard them, echoing far down the road. It was the clear sound of metal on stone. This was what they had been waiting for. He turned to Godric, his heart beating quickly.
"I want you on my right, opposite Vigil. No need for them to see anything more than they must. Attack when I call." He hesitated, considering his next words. "...And if you see Brielle, tell her to stay out of the way." As much as he wanted to assume she'd be safe, he couldn't trust that she'd stay put on his orders.
A ghostly pale figure moved through the trees to his right and wandered into the roadway to stand next to him. It was Blaze. He quickly felt much safer. The bear would be a valuable companion tonight whatever happened, and the sight of a large bear alone on the highway in front of the barricade would be thoroughly intimidating.
The Chevaliers, faint in the twilight, grew ever closer, their figures solidifying out of the faint evening mist that hovered over the road. Ithran adjusted his shield, keeping it at the ready, and breathed in and out slowly to steady his pounding heart. No time for doubts now.

Vigil
It was odd, for the stallion to stand there as if flesh had to turned to stone. It wasn't out of fear that he stood there. No he was looking outwards on the road, his large long ears pulled forwards in hope to grasp any sign of movement, to see if those proclaiming a war would venture near. They were told there would be horses here to discuss with War Forged, a new war was but whispers one everyone's lips and mind. It was easy to see as to why, it had been a long time coming since the last war, and Vigil had prayed there would no longer need to be one. But of course that was folly, some sort of tale, told to keep foals wishful and innocent. The real lesson was everyone was at war, whether it was an actual war, or a different kind of war. There would never be peace.
But Vigil vowed his life to the Vindicators in hopes perhaps allow some a moment of peace. A quiet moment, and with war on the horizon, Aodh needed to be stopped, in more ways then one. Though his name was called out and Vigil broke out of his trance and eyed Ithran lightly. "Of course." he remarked. Though his words were harsh, but Vigil never meant to come out as cold as he seemed to be. He dealt with his own war within him. His vain and judgmental ways. Eyes glanced to the other horses and then back to Ithran, nodding his head as he soon turned and walked off to where he would stay hidden. His long ears remained perked forwards taking in any sounds and awaiting for what would need to be done. There was no time to waste on words, words were meaningless and if anything this life had taught him so far. Actions spoke louder then words.

<---Brielle--->
The forest was so thick and dark, it always seemed to sound like someone was whispering to the little filly as she waited. She so badly wanted to help, her heart was full of fire but she was no fighter. She was fine with this, she told herself firmly. Sitting alone in a clearing with plenty of distance between her and the fight was the safest way to spend the night.
Honestly she was happy to be as far away from those dark, scary horses though. She had spent the majority of the time they were preparing cowering behind Ithran's large form before he had ordered her to stay put. She'd never had the nerve to speak to any of the grim-faced equines that solemnly prepared for battle, it reminded her of a funeral and brought back shuddering memories of dark rifts in the earth.
Ithran's words echoed in her mind, her only companion in this horrible, shadowy forest. She squinted in concentration, recalling every detail of his face. Butterflies danced in her belly and a chill laced her blood. She had to remind herself she was not the one going to fight, but that was the problem wasn't it? A dark creature stirred within her. fear. fear of loosing someone she held close. That was why she wanted to help, she wasn't sure she would survive loosing Ithran. She had complete confidence in him, but it was the enemy she did not have confidence in, would they be merciful if it came to that?
She sighed, a shuddering, cracked noise, and turned her fearful sights toward where she knew the barricade to be. She reasoned with herself for a moment but ultimately rose to gaze anxiously into the trees. Surely it would not be too bad if she watched from a distance, the idea of not knowing was terribly painful. Her coat was dark and with the aid of some dirt rubbed into her vibrant mane and tail she could blend quite well with the black trees and dark, glistening needles. No one had to know she was even there... Ithran couldn't be angry if he didn't know she had disobeyed him.
She quickly rubbed the black earth through her bright locks, a little sad to see them so disheveled but determined nonetheless, before stumbling nervously toward the dense forest, only giving a quick glance to the clearing behind her. But her mind was made. Her hooves were soundless on the soft forest floor, luckily for her these were not the sorts of trees with branches that would snatch up And grab horns. So she made her way through the shadows, silent as the dead, despite quivering nervously with every step.
Only as she glimpsed the worn road through the trees did she realise how far she'd strayed, her sense of direction was not her finest point. She was distracted from her thoughts by the sound of iron-clad hooves not far at all from where she stood. Eyes wide in horror, recognising these horses to be no Vindicators she quickly made her way back through the forest toward the barricade. Miraculously silent she swerved from the roadside in order to keep away from prying eyes of Aodhians and vindicators alike. She stumbled for a moment on a wayward branch, a near silent crack the only sound made, barely audible to mortal ears as she shot to her feet and sauntered back into the shadows. Wary orange eyes now peered from deep amongst the trees to anxiously watch the barricade.

= RYUKO = "When they tear down your door, how you gonna come? With your hands on your head, or on the trigger of a gun?."
WC: 356 | Post #1The journey to Onea had been a long one thusfar, with most of the group traveling in a firm silence. No doubt it was the process of mental preparation for the war effort, and Ryuko himself was no different. They had been chosen by the King to be dispatched on behalf of Aodh, which of course was an honour. Yet, part of him couldn't help but wonder if a war didn't warrent a much larger group of individuals to be sent. The other half, was grateful that it wasn't the case. It might have meant that his partner, D'Angelo, would have been amongst them and the mere thought of it was something he didn't want to linger on too long. The palomino was a strong and able fighter, but knowing that he was marginally more safe back home gave him a measure of comfort.
Slowly, they began entering a thick mist that covered their path ahead on the War Lord's road and immediately Ryuko felt himself grow more alert and on edge. The trek had been easygoing so far, as was expected when traversing allied soil, but the lack of visibility made him wake up from his complacent attitude. He cast his red eyes over the group, meeting theirs as he communicated his caution about anything up ahead. When he took an observant note of those present, he felt a sense of empowerment at the company. It was a strong group, undoubtedly. They had the giant hulking form of Davine, the sleek and able pegasus Quince, the fearless paint Gypsy Vanner Axenus, and the ever determined Beyond with a fierce loyalty to king and country. He was sure they had nothing to worry about, yet he remained on the lookout nonetheless.
He moved on, before shapes began to take form in the distance and he paused, eyes fixed.
"There's something on the road up ahead." He tensed his body and squinted to try and make out detail through the fog.

Jinxx;Vagabond | Mercenary "I spend my night dancing with my own shadow and it holds me and never lets me go." Jinxx paced back and forth, her hooves tracing the same path over and over so many times the dirt had become disturbed and stomped down like a miniature valley. She walked from one end of the barricade to the other, her ears flickering back and forth to catch any sound. The others were alert aswell, and a few seemed to be praying. Gods, it was just like her to get involved in this. They were right in the path of the same herd members that wanted her either dead, or under their ownership. Jinxx stopped, her head snapping up. Was that...a twig snapping? She looked through the fog, squinting the best she could. Now she saw them, dark shapes coming closer. Finally, some action. It was an improvement over just walking back and forth...endlessly..with nothing but her thoughts to occupy her and those were never good. "Someone is approaching." Jinxx announced just loud enough for her new traveling companions to hear but not enough for whoever approaching to. She stepped forward, unsheathing her sword and holding it at the ready while she stood square, one eyebrow raised as she prepared herself for whatever was to face her in the following moments.

[ Axenus ]
The travel certainly wasn’t fun, a long walk from Valore and into the allied herd’s land of Onea. It was the King’s orders for the group of Chevaliers to travel all the way there for the upcoming war that would happen with Sedo, but Axenus was having mixed feelings and complicated thoughts. As much as he wanted to help out his herd and keep them safe, his thoughts were on his friend Phoebe who stayed back in Aodh. Was she safe? Would she still be safe when they returned? Granted, it could end up being more dangerous out here than there and he would never want to risk her life, but he would set his own down first for his herd and his friend.
It was all thoughts he never shared, not knowing how the rest would feel about him worrying more about a slave than he was about anything else that moment and how he wanted to get back. Not everyone thought the way he did and he definitely didn’t want to start anything should it be brought up. The herd needed him, they needed them all, and he wasn’t about to let everyone down. Everything would go according to plan and everything would be fine, then they could all head back home safely.
His eyes skimmed the few Chevaliers that traveled alongside him, not really knowing any of them personally. Apart from seeing them around the herd or in the barracks, he never made much contact with them, but he believed they were excellent soldiers if the King trusted the few of them on such a task.
The thick fog that rolled in made it more difficult to see, hardly being able to make out his own hooves that stepped over the ground and practically swallowed his group whole. His head lifted, ears perked forward and twitching in every direction as he listened out for anything that could possibly be lurking in the forest. They’d been safe so far but that didn’t mean nothing could happen, and with such a fog in the air it was better to be aware of everything around.
Ryuko’s voice caught his attention and his gaze focused forward. Yes, there definitely was something up ahead. What exactly that was, he had no idea. “I wonder what it could be,” he mumbled, more to himself as he tried to make it out. It was too blurry to tell from the distance they were at.

The chevaliers were close enough that he could count them now, and he breathed a short but fervent prayer to Kaia that all would go as intended. The Vindicators couldn't afford war, not as things stood. More importantly, the innocents who would surely be caught in the crossfire couldn't afford it.
The hoofbeats were eerily muffled by the fog. The light was fading fast, and he was grateful Dinah had given them the necklaces of invisibility. He didn't doubt the fighting ability of his companions, but they weren't chevaliers. Chevaliers had much more time to dedicate to training, and a steadier, healthier diet besides.
The way they moved in the fog made him think of ghosts. He wasn't a superstitious man - far from it - but there was something... otherworldly, perhaps, about the way they moved through the fog, their shapes hidden in the fading light. There were four of them, assuming none had fallen behind.
Drops of water hit his back and he glanced upwards. The sky, so clear minutes before, was starting to darken with clouds. He grimaced. Oh no. Rain was the last thing they needed. Their advance suddenly called to mind an old marching song he'd learned years ago about an army going to battle. It was probably the fog that reminded him. Half-unconsciously he began to sing, starting somewhere in the middle. It was a long song, and very old.
"Marching to uncertain end, ancient wrongs to try and mend. Shades of mist in blackened night, hid from even star's cold light. Rain poured down and intermingled with the fires war had kindled. Fallen friend and fallen foe left behind all earthly woe." It was a dark song, though the end spoke of peace, and he wasn't sure why it had come to him. Perhaps because it didn't try to hide the horror of war. It showed it for what it was, and Ithran realized he would do anything to prevent what would surely come if these chevaliers made it past the barricade.
Kaia preserve us all. He lowered his head and stepped back, closer to the barricade to inspect it again. He didn't care if they could hear his steps, now that they were so close. It was solid, though the branches that poked out made it dangerous. One large tree limb, towards the center of the pile, seemed loose. He stuck his head in among the branches, trying to nudge it back into place. As he withdrew, he felt the necklace catch on one of them and pulled tightly against his neck. His instinctive reaction was to tug backwards to dislodge it. He heard a snap as the pressure vanished.
With a sickening feeling he glanced downward to where the necklace now rested, useless, on the ground. Then, slowly, he turned to face the chevaliers. Without the necklace he was far more vulnerable. He'd have to rely on his strength and wit alone in this battle. Kaia send it would be enough.

= RYUKO = "When they tear down your door, how you gonna come? With your hands on your head, or on the trigger of a gun?."
WC: 406 | Post #2Next to him, Ryuko heard one of his fellow chevaliers echo his thoughts. With a short nod, he looked over to Axenus and frowned slightly. "We should get a closer look, but I'm getting a bad feeling about this. Everyone, get ready to act just in case.." the sentiment seemed to be shared by the group as he looked around and noted the alert stances and watchful gazes. With conviction, they moved as a group cautiously towards the dark blurr in the distance, details becoming more apparent as they did so. Getting close enough to deduct that the entire path of the War Lord's Road was blocked by a mass of fallen trees, stacked high enough to be of serious concern. "It's been deliberately barricaded. Someone doesn't want us to reach Skeldr." he uttered to whoever was listening in a hushed tone, though he was voicing conclusions he was sure the group had reached already.
Just then, a soft and almost inaudible sound reached his ears that caused him to stop 15 yards away from the road block. Singing. He listened carefully, raindrops now beginning to patter on his bright red coat, but was barely able to make out the words. What he did know, from what he could make out and the ambiance of the tune, is that it felt terribly foreboding. For a moment, he thought ghosts were chanting a warning on their journey to war. Everywhere he looked, he couldn't spot the source of the noise or any sign that they had company. "Does anyone hear that?" Ryuko asked absentmindedly before his eyes rested on some pacing tracks that seemed recently trodden into the ground, peaking his suspicions.
Seemingly appearing out of thin air, suddenly a form appeared before the barricade. It caused him to flinch harshly, though the brown stallion seemed just as shocked for a moment. Instantly, Ryuko tensed and quickly looked over to Axenus to see if he wasn't hallucinating but the other seemed to have spotted it too. His impulsivity threatened to make him leap into action with a million assumptions, but he checked himself and drew to his full height. "You there! Stay where you are! Did you do this?!" he called out, narrowing his eyes and quickly inspecting the surroundings.

[ Axenus ]
Axenus’s muscles noticeably tensed beneath his coat, prepared for any possible scenario they could encounter. His eyes darted between the other Chevaliers, all of them of course readying themselves should something happen. No, we couldn’t have just crossed the lands to Onea in peace, he thought to himself. It must have been too much to hope for, Lord Ignacio watch us all. He inched closer to whatever was on the road with the rest of the group, making sure his focus was also around in case they weren’t safe, in case someone was lurking in the shadows ready to spring out. Just the necessary precautions they all had to take…
A barricade. His head lifted and his eyes glanced at Ryuko before his eyes landed upon what they then knew was a barricade by too many trees, piled high to keep them on their side and to not progress further to their destination. Of course not. It just couldn’t be that easy. “We definitely can’t climb over it,” he commented in a quiet voice, that much being obvious. “Taking it apart would be… much too long and difficult. Would there be another way around?” There had to be, surely.
His walking halted as Ryuko paused, the rest following along with them. Hear what? His ears strained to listen, taking in the sounds around them and the sound of a voice, singing, caught his attention. How eerie. With the fog rolled in and rain beginning to fall lightly, he couldn’t deny the added singing at such a time sent chills coursing through his body and his ears pinned back against his skull. Ax definitely heard it, no one was going crazy unless they somehow all were. Maybe the fog was somehow laced with some sort of hallucinogenic, making their ears pick up what wasn’t there and seeing a pile of fallen trees up ahead that possibly weren’t… No, that was not it at all.
Someone was there with them? Blue eyes followed the direction Ryuko was staring in and speaking to, his eyes narrowed. He thought he saw it, he believed he saw it, but maybe it was just some shadow messing around with them? Regardless, he readied himself in case something was about to go down, waiting patiently.

Beyond--->
Trailing behind the others, Beyond's form was barely visible in the misty surrounds. She had scouted ahead for a while and had now taken up the rear of the small band. Honestly she was a little uncertain about this band, she was confident in herself and Quince, but the others she had never spoken to, in fact she had forgotten even their names over the course of the journey and spoken so little to them that she had failed to rediscover them. For now she would trust in her Kings choices and her new comrades.
On approach to the barricade she had caught wind of something a little off, there was indeed at least one soul guarding the strange formation of trees that blocked their path. The familiar little flame of battle-thirsty excitement sparked in her chest, but she remained silent and watchful as they approached.
She watched with wary eyes as the others inspected the barricade, a soft sound somewhere caught her attention for a moment, a falling branch or a careful hoofstep? She dismissed it, but there was no doubting it when the sound of singing drifted through the fading light. "Ah" she smiled coldly, "company...". Finally maybe a fight? She walked forward, blazing eyes darting around in a frenzied search. This was probably the reason she was not set to deal with misbehaving citizens back in Eithne, but rather vagabond intruders. It was far easier to permanently deal with a problem than punish it and let it move on in her opinion. And things had changed since her last mission out of Eithne, she would let nothing stand in her way as long as there was a reason for her to live. Her daughter for example, something she had not known in a long time was family. She would fight to the end of the earth to protect it, to protect my precious little jewel from loosing something important as mother, as I have done.
Her sharp, ruby eyes caught a dark figure as one of her fellow chevaliers called to it. "Vagabond?" She queried, more to herself than the figure. Her two long, gold blades hissed sinisterly against their sheaths as they slipped out a little. She was all too eager to dispose of this shadowy equine and she knew it, a quiet voice in her gently tried to quell the growing flame of excitement but was incinerated in a moment. "Friend or foe?" She demanded in addition to her comrades questions, the longswords now almost fully drawn in anticipation of an answer...

VIGIL
The necklace around his neck was a firm reminder that he himself was nothing. In the gods plan he was but a mere pawn to their own war that had ensued for their believers. Nostrils flared a bit as he watched the current leader Ithran. He wasn't amused to say the least, he did not enjoy following the words of others. Only Dinah had complete control of Vigil, something he relished in and hated all the more, But her word was true against it all, and these others? Well still he was weary to trust, and so easy to judge them. Oh but who was he to judge? He remained in the forest, his necklace keeping him hidden from sight as he heard the approaching horses, and watched Ithran with a heated look. He almost cussed allowed as he watched the necklace of Ithran fall the ground. What a bloody fool, he thought bitterly to himself. Let him be at the mercy of the gods, he thought, it was his foolishness that would risk more lives. Ears swiveled, he was supposed to look after Brielle, or find her and ensure she was safe, now he had to watch over another child. Ithran. He wanted to turn tail and leave, but what good what that honestly be? Without all of them, the Aodhians could continue on and this war would ensure. Still his stomach clenched as he looked at Ithran waiting for him to give some sort of signal. None of this felt like it was going to plan, and he'd be damned if he was going to die tonight at the hooves of the spoiled aodhians. Ears remained perked forwards no longer caring about seeking out the others. he refused to allow his eyes leave Ithran, watching how this leader planed to proceed. The blood fool. Post 2 WC|| 306

Ithran held his shield low before him as the Chevaliers approached, and, sensing danger, stopped. Why were they here, anyway? The Paladin had guessed that Aodh was preparing for war, and it would make sense for Onea to join with their ally, but why? One of the troubles of living in the forests, unable to go too near civilization, was that the Vindicators had found themselves rather out of the loop.
There weren't many of them, and Ithran found himself breathing a little easier. His prayer totem, with its stronger string, hadn't broken away, and he felt its now-familiar weight on his chest as he waited for the Chevaliers to react.
Their reaction wasn't quite what he expected. "Vagabond? Friend or foe?"
He was standing in front of a large barricade, armed with a shield, and the Chevalier asked whether or not he was a foe? Well, he could certainly settle that doubt for her. "The Vindicators will not stand for war. You will go no further than this barricade."
Now was the time. He could feel it. "Godric, Vigil, attack! Jinxx, to me!" Power surged through him as he tapped into his blessing. Behind the Chevaliers a massive wall of earth ripped through the ancient stones of the roadway, blocking off their retreat with a wall ten feet high and more than twenty feet long, reaching nearly into the forest on both sides of the road. For a moment, as he always did when he used his Blessing, he thought he felt the presence of Kaia, though whether she was pleased or angry he could not tell.
Then, the exhaustion kicked in and he had to focus all his energy on keeping his feet. It would pass quickly-it always did-but until then he would need protection. Blaze reared up onto her hind paws and roared, an echoing sound in the twilight. She towered over his head, massive golden body standing out starkly against the dark wood of the barricade. Ithran smiled a wild smile, suddenly sure that the Vindicators could not fail.

Godric Adrenaline coursed through Godric's blood as he stood, watching Ithran walk around the barrier and prepare for the chevaliers who would be travelling this way. Drawing his sword once more, Godric tested it with a large swing, enjoying the pull it had on both his muscles and his pale teke. Removing his dented shield, he held it in front of his vulnerable shoulder and shook his mane out, ears pointed forward as he waited with baited breath. He glanced at Vigil, wondering how the stallion could see through the interact mask that guarded his face. His eyes wandered to his sharpened horn and Godric smirked, thinking of the unlucky soul who would meet their end to that pointed blade. The invisibility necklace around his neck jingled softly as he stepped forward, patient but still all too ready to dive into action. It had been so long, an entirety spent in Aodh but finally he was home, standing alongside his family and ready to die for them, ready to die for his daughter. They would make this world a better place.
Godric held his breath as he heard the approaching caravan, brows knitting forward as waited and listened. They called out and Godric looked at Vigil in confusion; why was Ithran not shielded in a cloak of invisibility? Had something happened to the necklace that they each carried? But suddenly Ithran was calling to their charge, his voice loud and strong. Godric's heart skipped a beat as he kicked himself off of the ground and ripped his pendant off, teeth bared as he dashed towards Ithran. Biting his bottom lip, Godric let out an ear piercing whistle, the screech of an eagle quickly following. Reinhardt, claws sharpened and opened, swooped down on the Chevaliers, aiming to rip eyes and tear ears and render their enemies vulnerable. With shield raised and sword ready, Godric charged towards the offending chevaliers.

Beyond
Obviously these were not War-Forged allies, she had been quite sure, but just think of the outrage if she had slaughtered an ally on a whim. Certainly the upset would not have been worth it, especially as Beyond had things she needed to protect now, she could not afford to waste time being punished for any reason. Amusement flickered in her eyes as the vagabond wretch announced his 'title'. "Another one of you prissy little vindicators" she muttered mockingly. It was a silly little habit of hers to tell her enemy just what she thought of them before she killed them, and she was thinking of a rather nasty term for vindicators as the vagabond spoke once more. She had to admit a moment of confusion when he called on unseen allies, maybe he had a screw loose, maybe they were hiding in the thick forest. She dismissed the first thought in a moment as she prepared for battle, whether he was crazy or not, she was going to battle.
"Fools..." she hissed with a wicked smile as her golden blades slipped easily from their sheaths, a nice simple way to put her thoughts on vindicators. The roar of earth at her back did not scare her, nothing could bring fear to her heart while Ignacio's fire burned within it. Another equine appeared from seemingly nowhere at the vagabonds call. Beyond jumped forward, somewhat startled and surprised by the new, charging, figure, she did not pause for breath as her twin blades sprung forward and lashed against the vindicators shield in a song of metal that had slit hundreds of throats. As the force of her blow crashed through the shield she did a quick calculation during her next movement, three names, three other attackers, an Ursa Major and the sound of wings warned of aerial attack. Six attackers, they were outnumbered.
She whirled her swords in a gleam of gold about her as she dodged to her attackers undefended side, a bright distraction that dually served as a temporary shield. One of her finest attributes was her speed despite the weight of her swords and armour. Her mouth was firmly shut now, no time for talk. She was careful to place herself with breastplate facing the attacker as a shield over her blazing heart before she slashed at him with unnerving speed, simultaneously turning her other sword to the great golden bear that followed him. The other chevaliers would have to deal with any other attackers for the moment, this stallion was playing with Fire,

Jinxx [ post # 2 || word count: 193 ] |
As the group of aodhians approached, she felt a swell of energy travel through the group, through the air like a missile. The earth even felt like it was surging with power. She unsheathed her sword and stood ready for her orders. They immediatley spoke to Ithran, which puzzled her. How did they see him? Were all of their necklaces not working or was it just his? She didnt see it hanging around his neck so she decided that the others were probably still working.
Suddenly, he leaped into action, commanding each of them to different positions. She was soon at his side and stood infront of him, prepared to defend him. He used his power, forming a huge earth wall. It clearly exhausted him, his stance weak. She held her sword at the ready, eyeing everyone before her. She kept a close eye on the mare with the double blades. She admired the golden weapons but stood where she was, ready to defend Ithran. Mathia growled ominously, her teeth bared as she snarled. She hyena rarely saw action but Jinxx thought it too much of a risk to leave her at home.

[ Axenus ]
Axenus peered over at Beyond, ears twitching as she spoke to the one by the blockade. Definitely company, but his ears caught the name Vagabond and his muscles tensed, waiting. Of course someone would have tried to stop them, of course. Any suspicions they may have had were answered when the figure spoke up, talking about how the Vindicators would not stand for war. So they were Vagabond.
The next thing that rang in his ears was a call for an attack on the Chevaliers, behind them a giant wall shooting out of the ground that quickly pulled his attention. Startling? Not as much as surprising. They were soldiers and if any of them had planned on running, they wouldn’t have been meant for the battlefield. Sorry, Bee. A grin curled up along his lips as he turned his head back around sharply, watching as several more of the vermin leapt out of the shadows they were hiding in. So the one who called the shots had to be the leader. If the leader fell, then… they all had to go down with him.
His swords, each sheathed neatly on each side, were pulled out and gripped by his telekinetic hold, bolting forward with the rest of his comrades. They were definitely outnumbered, not only by the Vagabonds but with their familiars included? He could hear the shrieks of an eagle overhead and saw the figure of the Ursa Major as it stood itself up onto its hindpaws. Would they get out? He sent out another silent prayer to Lord Ignacio, unsure of what would become of them but knowing they had to fight like Hell to at least try.
The leader seemed to have his own little guard, standing besides him as he recovered from the wall he had put right behind him. They were his first target, ready to rip them away from each other and get the leader alone. First kill the follower, and then they could have at the leader and rip them apart.

Vigil
Heartbeat remained as steady as ever not rising to the occasion as the Aodhians marched up towards them. His lips twisted up in a wanting snarl, disgust was the only world he could ever imagine for those. Disgust. They were like maggots tot he carcass only caring for themselves and never the life as long as it benefited them. This war they wanted to play at would only destroy more, they all playing Gods in a world that was never truly theirs to claim. For the Gods could clear them all up in on sweet bitter kiss, leaving the victor only to the Gods. This war they all craved was nothing but to appease their broken ego. How dare someone stand up to them, how dare someone want freedom.
Shaking his head, large ears twitched as he looked to Godric and gave him a light nod. Not that he was truly thrilled to be working with others, a part of him craving the solitude allowing him to suffer in his guilt and sin. He deserved to suffer to not be forgiven for his sins against life. So he would pay his life so others could live, could be free. Eyes moved to Ithran and soon the call was made. Godric moved first and Vigl remained still for a second, before charging forwards ripping his necklace off, his body being seeing in mid air, as he moved to bullrush into Axenos. Damn the Aodhians. His golden mask shimmered in the light of the sun, at this moment in mid air, he felt true freedom, that sweet taste only gods could truly relish in. For a second he was a God.

= RYUKO = "When they tear down your door, how you gonna come? With your hands on your head, or on the trigger of a gun?."
WC: 456 | Post #3After Beyond had stepped forward, seemingly readying herself for a fight, echoing his question in a more direct manner, the figure at the barricade finally responded. "Vindicators." Ryuko's voiced laced with acid as a grimace flashed across his features. His mind recalled within a matter of seconds the hell they had been through when their kind had flooded the city not so long ago. Of course, these assholes hadn't learnt their lesson yet. Without a moment to spare, the stallion called on his company to charge and he quickly had to look around to try to spot where his reinforcements actually were. Again, out of thin air they seemed to dash into the space between them, creating a whirlwind of events.
Behind them, a great wall of earth surged up and blocked their escape. It drew a harsh chuckle to erupt from Ryuko's lungs. "If you are stupid enough to think we would run, you've got another thing coming!" he called out challengingly across the battlefield. Left and right, the chevaliers leaped into action around him as he drew a longsword with a satifying shink from it's sheath. Solidifying his stance, he heard the shrill shreak of an eagle and cast his eyes to it before they were pulled towards the Ursa Major and counted the rest of the hostile party. Inside him, Ignacio's flame sparked wildly bringing a fierce and determined gleam to his crimson eyes. He tapped his sword to the image of his god engraved in his chestplate twice, a homage to Ignacio and a pre-battle ritual of his. Taking a sharp steady breath, the world seemed to slow for a mere instant before he burst forward.
Pushing off a nearby boulder, he jumped upwards slingling his sword at the menacing claws of the bird that were going straight for one of his comrades, managing to diverge it from its course momentarily. A sudden flash of light caught his attention amidst his landing and his eyes darted towards it. A glimpse of sun reflecting from a vindicator's golden helmet who was fixated on Axenus, who in turn was aiming his attack at two forms by the barricade. Ryuko's hooves dug themselves into the ground as he whirled his entire body around in one fluid compact motion, causing him to erupt forward like a spring as he threw himself at the hooded figure. Aiming to divert his attention, he sent his sword flying towards the horn of the attacker first, before the red form shoved the brunt force of the running impact at the seal brown's side.

Jinxx [ post # 3 || word count: 336 ] |
Jinxx immediately locked eyes with a chevalier who was approaching her. She knew that just because he was a hand shorter, didnt mean he wasnt a threat. He was heavier than her and definitely more muscular. Not to mention it was clear he was more experienced with weaponry. Still, she felt confident.
As he approached her she bounded to meet him, just a foot or two in front of Ithran that way he wasn't in her way but she was close enough no one could get to him without her noticing. She licked her lips, snaking her neck slightly. "Care to make the first move?" She taunted, twirling her sword about. He swung his blade, and she ducked out of the way, rushing toward him and getting the crest of his neck between her teeth. Mathia pounced, leaping onto the smaller horses hind quarters and digging in with her sharp claws. Jinxx used this time to throw her weight into his shoulder, pushing down and forward to drive him into the ground and onto his knees.
"Caught off guard?" She teased, releasing his neck and swinging her sword, the blade glinting in the early morning light. "You should know better than to make the first move, it puts you in a vulnerable position." She chuckled, winking at him. Her blade sliced through the skin of his shoulder, blood coating the sharp tip. She had made sure to sharpen it as much as possible the day before so it was ready for whatever she was hired to face.
Mathia barked and snarled, grabbing some of his flesh in her mouth and ripping like she would a deer carcass. Quickly, Jinxx side stepped and kicked some of the sandy dirt that coated the road in his face and then spit. Usually she would just get the job done but fighting an aodhian was...unique. She was disgusted by them, they had taken her brother from her.

[ Axenus ]
Axenus’s eyes were focused on his targets, blades itching to catch a taste of blood and flesh as they were soon to slice through the Vagabond, as he hoped. What he didn’t at first see was the flash of gold under the sunlight that came straight for him in the form of a Vindicator, so close to knocking into him until his fellow Chevalier came and took charge. With them being out of his way, he took a leap to the side to avoid the two and continued towards his two targets.
She’d taunted him, the one protecting the Vagabond leader. Jumping right in was never such a smart idea, but he wanted them gone. His blades swung for her, slashing straight down from overhead and missing when she’d ducked. He felt her teeth grip at the back of his neck, her little pet jumping onto him with their claws burying into his skin. His own teeth gritted together, but he let out a low chuckle that rumbled deep in his throat, keeping to his hooves as she tried to get him to the ground. “You Vagabonds don’t stand a chance,” he mocked her, wincing as he felt warm blood soaking his champagne coat as it oozed out of the blade wound and trickled down his shoulder.
And there was the annoying Hyena again, bringing his attention back to her as she uttered a sound before biting into him. Yeah, she could wish they had him down. “We won’t have you stand in our way, pests!” he hissed in annoyance, ducking to the side when his neck was released and avoiding as much of the dust kicked in his face as he could to keep his eyes. A temporary blindness was not good in such a time when he needed it, only rendering him more vulnerable as he wouldn’t be able to see.
First. His head snapped back so fast, teeth snapping at the Hyena who was practically turning him into lunch and he gripped at its scruff. They didn’t last much longer on him when he swung his head in the other direction, releasing them and flinging them across the ground to get them out of his way. Eyes then turned back onto Jinxx, a sadistic smile curling up the corners of his mouth. “Now. Where were we?” The stallion barely gave them a moment for any smart remarks or more taunts, kicking off the ground with his hind hooves and aiming to ram the Vagabond off of her hooves and to the ground.

Vigil
Bodies collided as Vigil had no intentions of stopping and a body in front of him meant nothing, so he bull rushed into them tumbling with them. The ground hurt far worse then colliding with Ryuko, the horse before him was as soft a feathers compared to hitting the ground. A faint groan escaped his lips, but he was quick to move back up on all four legs, his eyes narrowed down at the fool of a horse that thought blocking him was a wise choice. Fools, all of them. The whole lot was disgusting a true disgrace to anything with a breath. These war hunger horses had no idea what they were in for with war. They acted like it was some treat dangling before them, oh how they seemed to beg and plead for bloodshed. They all itched for it, and Vigil he felt nothing for it. He wanted no part of it, but seeing the others how they seemed to crave spilling blood, he wondered what had truly happened to them all.
Golden masked lowered as he is tail whipped dangerously like a mountain lion ready to pounce, his mind was focused on Ryuko and their weapon. Instead he lowered his head, golden masked lowered, as his nostril flared awaiting for Ryuko to make the first move. He spoke nothing as words were a waste on the ears of those that much rather hear the screams of their own kind be gutted open. But Vigil was here not to kill or harm. oh no, the plan was to capture one, and it seemed Ryuko offered themselves gladly to that position.

Jinxx [ post # 3 || word count: 240 ] |
Jinxx watched in horror as Mathia flew across the clearing as a white blur, landing with a thud. All Jinxx wanted to do was run to her familiar, make sure she was alright, but she had to stay. She had to put an end to this. Before carrying on, the Hyena lifted her head slightly, her eyes squinted as she came back to herself.
Without a word, Jinxx launched forward, snaking her head low and gripping Axenus's chest with her teeth and pushing backward. She swung her sword, slicing anywhere the blade could reach. In her anger, she lost her grip and dropped the blade, but she didnt need it. "You Aodhians are fools." She mumbled, rearing up on her back hoofs and slamming down with her front. Her left hoof scraped down his cheek, blood staining her now, while the other hit him hard between the ears.
She watched with demonic smile as he crumpled to the ground, muscle and blood in a heep. Jinxx watched all else unfold around her in a haze, bodies coliding and weapons catching the early morning sun. Familiars growled and cawed, just as eager for battle as those who took care of them. She looked down at the tan and white horse at her hooves in disgust and spit on him, picking her sword back up from where it was beside him.

"A wise man fears three things: the sea at storm, a night with no moon, and the anger of a gentle man." __________________________________I T H R A N Vagabond | Vindicator
Ithran shook himself as the battle roared around him. As the haze slowly cleared from his mind he took stock of what was happening around him. Jinxx was fighting a solidly-built paint stallion in front of him. Vigil and the leader of the Chevaliers were engaged in combat, having just tumbled down in a heap. Godric was charging towards the Chevaliers, an intimidating sight with his longsword and eagle swooping from above.
Blaze roared again, then settled down to all fours, looking to Ithran for direction. Again he thought of Brielle. "Blaze, find Bri! Stay with her!"
The bear seemed to nod as she moved to one side of the road, hopefully obeying his command. He didn't have time to make sure she found Brielle, and he'd have to trust the bear. Again he surveyed the battle. This time, though, he realized something. The Vindicators could overpower the Chevaliers, that much was clear. What if they took a few captive? Dinah needed to know more about Aodh's and Onea's plans for war, and what better way than directly from a Chevalier's mouth? Vigil and Jinxx seemed to be getting the best of their opponents, more or less. Perhaps if they focused their attention on those two Chevaliers...
"Godric, help Vigil! Capture that Chevalier!" Ithran shouted as he jumped forward to help Jinxx with her opponent. "Jinxx, capture him!" He didn't have time for more detailed orders, and he was forced to ignore the other chevaliers, a pegasus and a grey mare who both looked quite dangerous.
The battle seemed to be swinging their way. Ithran sent a prayer of thanks to Kaia as he threw himself into the fray, ignoring the trembling in his legs and raising his shield with a loud battle cry. There would be no retreating for the Vindicators today.

Godric Teeth bared, Godric met the attacker; shield against sword. He did not care for her words, thought the fact that she was so sure of herself would only lead to her demise. Godric did not speak, no he let the clash of metal be his words, the sound making his ears ring but cause a comforting feel to settle in his stomach. Biting his lips once more, Godric let out a shrill whistle which was followed by the sound of an eagle screeching, Reinhardt coming to his aid and swooping down on the offending mares head, claws searching for any purchase before he angled his wings and soared into the sky again. During this, Godric used the time to lurch toward the mare. She was damn fast and could use Godric's size to her advantage, He would not let her best him. He swung with his sword, shield raised to his shoulder as a guard. Metal connected with the chest plate that guarded the mares front, a curse leaving escaping Godric's lips as he swung again, this time lower and meeting the flesh of her foreleg.
Ithran's words rung out and Godric's ears snapped towards him, a scowl on his face as he continued to circle the mare. Raising his shield and sheathing his sword, Godric billowed towards her, a train of muscle and anger directed straight towards her. She could either move or be crushed. With his speed, he moved to Vigil and trying to strike their opponent off guard, slammed into the side of the offending stallion. Skidding to a halt, Godric nodded at Vigil once before brandishing his sword once more.

Beyond
The stallion held his shield fast and strong against her blow and let loose a sharp whistle. She paused for a split second, what on earth was he whistling at? Oh of course, his pet canary, she thought sharply as it came hurtling toward her out of the sky. She darted back for a moment as sharp, glinting talons dove for her eyes and bared her teeth with cold glee as it dove closer. She did not move until its wicked talons were only a heart beat from grazing her eyes, then she twisted magnificently to clamp her sharp, white teeth on an outspread wing. She would have thrown it to the ground if the stallion had not smashed his own sword heavily against her chest, the breast-plate ringing metallicly.
The blow was strong enough to knock her aside enough to be left only with a mouthful of long wing feathers, which while would surely damage the birds flight, would allow it a far easier recovery than if she had torn off its wing, to her disappointment. As her attacker cursed she felt the faint sting of a long cut the bird had left on her brow as it made its exit.
She spat the feathers out as she turned her head to face her attacker once more. A small trickle of blood mingled with her left eye, the colours eerily blending as she bared her teeth in fury. But his sword was already swinging again and her own golden blades were too late to deflect the blow that cut deep into her foreleg. She roared, not just with pain, but with rage as the stallion circled one last time, she would not allow this. She heard the vagabond leaders call and felt no fear, they could capture as many chevaliers as they liked, but such elite soldiers were not like simpleton vindicators, they simply did not crack. Hot blood dripped down her leg, she showed no pain despite feeling it ripple through her leg and up her chest. There was no place on the battlefield for weakness.
The attacking stallion charged suddenly, she stood firm and strong, twisting away at the last moment to a new angle of attack. A horrible, burning chill whispered through her veins and spilled on the hard earthen floor as she flew with speed unmatched and blazing veins after the dark stallion. The air sung as it slid past her blades and her leg screamed in pain as it threatened to give way while she stubbornly ignored it. And as the stallion came to halt after crashing into her comrade, as he raised his sword and nodded to his own ally she burst from the thickening mist of the eve and plunged her golden blades toward him, one into his shoulder and the other in between his ribs as she came at his undefended side.
They may be outnumbered, and she had noticed a gap left in the attackers through which she could easily circumnavigate the barricade and seek backup, she did not plan on leaving without repaying the favour first. As she twisted to move away her leg shuddered, she feared he'd severed too much muscle, but she would not let it show weakness now, let the dark stallion follow her if he could. She pulled her bloody swords free as she shot into the forest, a trail of spattered blood from sword and wound behind her "You cannot stop War you ignorant fools!" She screeched with a bloody smile,

[ Axenus ]
The Chevalier at first expected the Vindicator to run to the aid of their precious puppy, stupid and leaving herself vulnerable to a next attack he’d have ready for her. If that were the case, she would be dead from her foolishness. Weakness didn’t belong on the battlefield. But to his surprise, she stayed to fight and came back for him. The stallion reared back on his hind legs when the mare came back for him, stumbling back from the push.
“Fools?” he repeated with a scoff, a laugh rising from his throat. His blades crossed in front of him to block any attacks she aimed that he could, but they weren’t needed when she dropped them as if they’d been too slippery. “You Vagabonds are fools for crossing into our path. You cannot win this!” he roared, slashing his swords down her side but never getting his target. His telekinetic hold wavered, grip loosening on the two swords with the slam of her hoof to his head. Blood oozed down his cheek, his vision a blur and almost completely hazy. The swords dropped to the ground with a metal clang, his knees giving out beneath him as he fell over.
The sounds around him rang in his ears; the yelling and the clashing of swords against swords or armour, the orders from the leader of their group echoing. His head felt heavy, barely able to keep it up. Fuck. I can’t give up yet. They need me. Lord Ignacio, please protect us all and give us the strength we need to take them down. With whatever strength he could muster up, Axenus pushed himself back to his hooves only to raise his head straight up into Jinxx’s own, catching her in the jaw. While he still hadn’t cleared up fully yet, he refused to give up and he refused to allow such filth to spit on him. His telekinesis desperately reached for his swords, unable to hold them up properly or even keep himself up as he still stumbled around like a newborn foal. Dammit...

= RYUKO = "When they tear down your door, how you gonna come? With your hands on your head, or on the trigger of a gun?."
WC: 560 | Post #4Trying to aid his comrade, Ryuko had collided full force into the masked vagabond, crashing to the ground in a harsh roll. When his hind legs caught ground once more, he planted them into the ground to stop his skidding motion, instead using the momentum to push himself back onto his feet. Panting slightly from the effort, he readied his stance once more, eyes locked onto the others'. Though, it was difficult to see exactly where the brown individuals eyes were. How the hell was he seeing anything through that elaborately patterned mask? He didn't linger long on the thought as it seemed the vindicator was stood still, baiting him into making a move. Ryuko knew making the first attack was dangerous, but he was driven by his adrenaline and confident in his abilities. A slight challenging smirk crossed his muzzle as he regained his sword from the ground.
Just as he lifted the weapon, gleaming in the low sun, a flash of black caught his peripheral vision. He only had a split second of gaining focus on the figure before he was bulldozed into by another vindicator. The red stallion tried to act as fast as he could muster, but it just wasn't fast enough. For a second time, he was knocked onto the hard ground, his skin scraped painfully on the path and his jaw hit the floor. Everything was a blurr for a second as he tried to regain his senses, which he just about managed in time to see the paint go down. "Axenus!" he yelled out, but soon the other stallion was determinedly pushing himself back up. Drawing strength from his fellow Chevalier's resolve around him, he drew himself up once more, spitting out the blood from his mouth. He noticed though, that at this point they were starkly outnumbered. At least some of them had to reach Onea so that the alliance would not be in danger should Aodh not meet their side of the agreement and never show up. He couldn't take that chance, though he trusted in their strength.
Four.
Four of the Vindicators were now intently focused on Axenus and himself, set on capturing them. This meant, the others could get away. Glancing over at the other stallion, he could tell that he was fixed on the battle, but in no state to make a quick escape, and neither was he. The decision had made itself. "Quince! Beyond!" Ryuko barked urgently, squaring himself up in front of the two that he was fighting. "Go! We cannot risk the alliance. Now is your chance and I will not repeat myself! Go, for Valore and all of Aodh." With that, he raised his sword in the air. "We'll hold them off." He knew it wouldn't last long, and that the odds were wildly stacked against him, but if he knew anything it was that they would go down swinging. A deep chested roar came from his throat as he launched himself at the black stallion and sent his sword viciously at the other, gritting his teeth in determination. If he was going to fall today, he was going to take at least one down with him.

"A wise man fears three things: the sea at storm, a night with no moon, and the anger of a gentle man." __________________________________I T H R A N Vagabond | Vindicator Ithran was about to charge to Jinxx's side when he realized she had things well under control. The stallion she was fighting could barely keep his feet. He watched in admiration as she used her sword skillfully. I should get one of those, he thought briefly before checking back with Godric and Vigil.
The stallion Vigil and Godric were facing was offering a bit more fight. The big bay was refusing to back down, and was shouting orders at his soldiers. He clearly didn't expect to make it out of this fight alive. Ithran closed his eyes. This wasn't what he'd wanted the Vindicators to become. They weren't supposed to be terrorists!
No time for regrets now. He leapt to Vigil's side, shield raised to defend against the Chevalier stallion's blows. "Surrender and you won't be harmed! We have your other companion!" Not strictly true. The horse was still on his feet, but it was only a matter of time before Jinxx had him totally under her control. "This doesn't need to go any further!"
As he spoke the grey mare took off into the trees, clearly trying to make it around the barricade. Well, they couldn't win everything. She would bring the news of the barricade to Onea, and Vindicators would be even more of a target. It didn't matter. They had what they needed.
Ithran refocused on the leader. "There's no need for more fighting here. If you lay down your weapons this can end, here and now. You're outnumbered three to one."
It was almost over. Ithran could sense it in the cool night air flowing around them and drying his work-warm fur. The Vindicators had won. For once, they had won. Post Count: 5 | Word Count: 323
