Try to interact with everyone. <3- Have fun! After watching their captain unleash unforeseeable carnage on Holmsa (leaving the village in a state of lifelessness so absolute that it shocked even the veteran raiders), the nausea permeating the crew has as much to do with dismay as it does seasickness. At the behest of the medics, some of the crew and passengers have come ashore in Onea’s remote forests to gain their bearings and search for fresh healing herbs. A day’s march inland, they have made camp and are able to take a deep breath away from their unstable captain, who has been furious and unpredictable since his recovery. Memories of the violence linger as they gather around the fire. Is this kind of savagery what they are to expect of their new life? Location: Around a campfire, in the vast, nameless forest of Onea Time of Day: Night

Rose
From afar, the Bloody Flank's makeshift camp might have appeared welcoming, even peaceful. The soft glow of fire light soaked tired bodies in revitalizing warmth; horses huddled around it, as though the flames might burn away their memories of recent days. Rose lay among them, eyes lost in the embers. When Vidar had miraculously recovered she thought it a blessing, but now she knew. It was a curse. As much could be said for all who lost their lives that day. The innocents he'd slaughtered, and in the name of what? Revenge? Nay. There was no cause, no excuse, no prayer to justify what became of that town.
The complete disregard for life; the thought made her stomach turn. And in the days since she felt naught but regret; he was alive because of her, and they were dead. Guilt plagued the Medic, but time gave rise to more potent emotions, disgust and frustration chief among them. She'd not thrown away what was possibly her entire future so she could go gallivanting across Onea with Vidar and his merry crew of murderers. Had she known this would be the outcome, she would've dragged his sorry ass into the coldest, darkest cave she could find and left him there.
Tearing her gaze from the fire, she caught the eyes of several others. They couldn't all approve of the Captain's newfound savagery, could they? It was impossible to gauge the temperature of the group with looks alone. Good thing Rose wasn't one to keep her mouth shut.
"You can't really be okay with this.", she growled lowly, addressing her peers. "He murdered innocents, 'n we're just supposed to just keep on like nothing happened?"
To think any among them might agree with what Vidar had done; it was insane.
This thread is now open -- Post away!

Faraji | Bloody Flank Medic
Faraji thought she knew what fear was. She had experienced it when she was a filly and had accidentally strayed too far away from the herd, losing sight of her family as the tall spring grass greedily hugged her small body and she had thought she was never going to see them again. She felt it again when she had first laid her eyes on an Onean bear while looking for herbs and had thanked Kaia when a War-Forged Raider had come to shoo the creature away so they might continue on with their scouting for supplies in peace. She had felt it in fleeting moments, when she was in trouble or was surrounded by new faces, or experiencing new things. The day she had followed Vidar, trying to salvage whatever life she had, it had nearly engulfed her but it had proved to be a good thing. At least that is what she had thought right up until a few days ago.
All that she had experience prior to the events at Holsma now felt minuscule in comparison. A deep chill had settled within her that not even the warm bodies surrounding her, or the crackling flames of the fire could fix. She was past the point of the panic she had felt being a helpless witness to the horrific bloodshed of innocent horses, but she was also far from being alright. 'Those horses didn't deserve that, no one would deserve that.' Faraji had known Vidar was capable of bloodshed, but never in her wildest dreams had she thought he was capable of that. It frightened her more then she could ever describe and she knew she would never be able to look at their Captain in the same, respectable light she had viewed him in prior to this.
"Those poor horses," she spoke softly into the flames, not talking to anyone in particular, trying her best to stop herself from reliving that horrific slaughter all over again. "I wouldn't wish that kind of fate on my worst enemy." She could still hear their cries and tried not to give into the overwhelming sense of guilt she had for it.

Sigyn || Scout || Status: Pissed
Sigyn's mind had been consumed with nothing but thoughts of Vidar for days on end now, worry and anxiety eating away at their core. The young stallion was nearly all the family they had left in this world and to see him so absolutely wrecked had shaken them horribly. They'd only agreed to come ashore to take a moment to try to relax, to try to pull themself together. If Vidar fell apart it might just fall on them and the other veteran crew members to take command and continue forth. It would do no good for Sigyn to crumble under that weight, and they didn't find a breakdown to be a particularly appetizing idea.
So there they lay, amber eyes trained on the dancing flames, breathing deeply, trying to process everything that had happened to them. The words spoken by the two medics, however, snapped their attention back to the present. With a furious snort they rose to their feet to glare down the two mares.
"You cannot possibly speak such things and still consider yourself a bloodyflank!" They snapped, taking a step towards the other two equines, "You were not there when our people lay bleeding and beaten down by the warlord's forces! When our leader was struck down by that treacherous snake Hira!" another step, and a wide sweeping glance around at the gathered equines.
"Vidar is hurting and here we sit speaking as though he were an animal to be put down! You say he slaughtered innocents?" They snorted haughtily, "None are innocent who follow the rule of Hira, none are innocent who bow to a mare with just as much blood on her hooves as we, yet carries herself as though sinless." Sigyn raised their head, ears flat against their skull, teeth bared, "And was I not innocent? Was my family not deserving of life when we were cut down, when my leg was crushed beneath enemy hooves? Was I shown mercy then?" They shook their head, tsking a few times as they finally came to a stop in front of Rose. "You are both naive, and completely idiotic to think this something to be ashamed of. We as a clan wish for power, and once we have it you cry over the lives of our enemies? What do you think would have happened to them otherwise?"
Sigyn turned to Faraji then, their gaze shooting back to Rose every few moments, "Though if you feel such pity for Hira's puppets, then I will gladly help you join them."

VIDALIA | WAR FORGED | BLOODY FLANKS RAIDER
Vidalia had taken to resting on her right side, both eyes closed, breathing steady and were it not for the occasional rotation of her ear, one could easily presume her to have fallen asleep... but this was not the place to let one’s guard down, especially as she still had yet to trust her newfound crewmates’ competency. Jaskółka lay nearby, gnawing on the remnants of a gnarled branch. Cowardly a wolf as she was and just as liable to bite the hand that fed her versus a stranger, the mule was still comforted by her presence over the others; for she, at the very least, was consistent in her motives.
In hearing the medic break the relative silence, one eye cracked open just as the fire popped, the iris flashing gold as it slid back to observe Rose and Faraji. Vidalia frowned, and she rolled over to face her back to the flames with a dismissive grunt. They spoke as though some giant illusion had been broken about the Bloody Flanks all of a sudden; Vidar might not have been what he once was certainly, but one could say the same of any of them.
The clan’s motto remained the same as it always had been, adapt or die. coded by pinn @ thqRise and fall, the tide surrounds and drowns us all.

Rose Rose met Faraji's eyes with a gentle sympathy. Medics were no strangers to gore and violence; death was all too familiar. Yet, to see so much of it in so short a time, an entire town wiped off the face of Hireath with ease; it was the stuff of nightmares. But their opinion wasn't popular with everyone, and Sigyn's outburst rekindled the rage within her. She stood, glaring down at the irate scout, daring them to challenge her. Rose was no warrior, but she could more than hold her own against this one. Of that, she had no doubt.
"If that's what you think, cur, then I pity you." the Medic hissed. "You hate the Warlord for what she's done; we all do. You're not the only one she's hurt, and you won't be the last. "
Taking a step forward, her hoof landed with such force that it shook the burning wood between them and sent embers flying into the air.
"What good does it do, huh? We kill the Warlord, and then what? All of War-Forged? Maybe you're missing more than just your leg, Sigyn."
Reaching out with her telekinesis, Rose tore a stray log from the flaming pile and pointed it in the fleabitten horse's direction. Her eyes narrowed as she bared her teeth in turn, moving to block the children from view.
"There is no such thing as a bloodless war; you think I don't get that? But there's a difference between a smart one and a stupid one."
Her voice rose from a low snarl to a scream as she brandished the blazing branch.
"How did Holmsa get us any fucking closer to the Warlord? Tell me!"

Aubrey | War-Forged | Bloody Flank Merchant
Aubrey had been miserable since they had left Ghosthold on the Trespasser. Nothing was the same any longer; it was all so different. There was no forge for her to do her work, and her mentor had remained at the Bloody Flank camp, probably handing out her few belongings to the horses that had remained. That didn’t bother her that much. Everything she owned was replaceable, and she had thankfully had the one thing of importance strapped to her side when the chaos had broken out in the camp, her war-hammer. Its heavy weight was a comforting feeling at her side now as her eyes gazed blankly at the embers of the fire that crackled in the middle of their make-shift camp.
She could tell from the look on some of the faces around her that they had disliked what had happened back at that village. It had been a raid like any other lead by Vidar who had miraculously healed from the wound his brother had left to his skull. It had been a massacre, and Aubrey could still hear the screams and shouts of the villagers as they were slain and their bodies lay on the ground, bleeding out of whatever wound had been inflicted upon them. Her prosthetic leg creaked slightly as she turned slightly to hear what others were saying around her. She snorted quietly at their angered, distraught tones, upset by how they had killed all those horses, but Aubrey couldn’t help but think about what the War-Forged had done to her. They had sold her to marry a brute of a stallion that had turned her into a battered husk of the young mare once was. It had left her with a deep-seeded hatred for those under the War-Lord’s command. Aubrey was no cold-blooded killer, but she had killed during raids before… it was just something that had to be done at times.
Her thoughts were broken as a member of their group jumped up to argue with the two mares that had started talking, reminding them of who they were and why the Bloody-Flanks did as they did. Aubrey could see Sigyn’s anger bubble to the surface, obviously offended by what had been said. The blacksmith stayed quiet. It wasn’t her place to speak yet. She had only joined the Flanks five years before and was still considered an outsider by most despite the blood she had spilled for the clan and how hard she worked to be one of them. A long, quiet sigh escaped her, but her eyes never left the horses in front of her. Why couldn’t they all just get along? She had to admit though that the unicorn mare, Rose, had a point. Killing all those horses in that little village may not have given them anything other than a few more supplies.

Cloaked in her matching pin-striped Arsenal of next month's nows
Alcippe laid at Vidalia's side, feeling the space between their skin with the implicit awareness of someone who knows another through night and day. They'd brokered their own sort of marriage in battles—a partnership deeper than petty vows. They'd shared blood and sweat. A fight was a better promise than a wedding. It was a trust that they'd carved out of others. Andrastea snapped at her packmate in the shadows, playfully trying to snatch the stick from the other wolf. It had a comforting sort of peace to the night. Ghosthold had never been a home to her. It had been a necessity—a requirement where she played her part and counted the days until they set sail again. The restrictions bred resentment in her and she was often in the prow as they pulled out of the harbor, eager to be away. Now they were never going back. The Trespasser's freedom was no longer a periodic respite—it was permanent. The price...well, had she been asked, it was not a price she would have paid. But it was done and Alcippe had never been one to linger. Voices broke across the way and it took her a moment to pay attention to the words. It was natural to have the new ones flustered after a raid especially one as...unusual as the one they'd partaken in today. She was apathetic to both the shock and the shattered illusions. They'd get over it and move on. She was about to shift to press herself closer to Dally and the warmth of another body when another voice chimed in and an actual argument broke out. Had they just ignored the griping it might have quieted down sooner with nothing to whip it into a frenzy. With an actual antagonist, she doubted Rose was likely to shut up anytime soon. “Attacking Skeldr's going to be a suicide mission if you murder our medics, Sigyn,” she called out at them without bothering to get up. She cast a quiet thought over the waves in case Vlad was able to snatch at it. She'd been checking in all night that way. “As for today, dead is dead. The method shouldn't mean a fucking thing to the morality of it. All Vidar did was make it so fewer of the people you ought to give a shit about need to be patched up or buried.” If anything, she was glad of the efficiency of the method even if it had robbed her of a way to burn some energy. “Today wasn't anything we haven't left in towns or on ships before. It just got done by the grace of our good Kaia instead of our swords.”She raised her head to meet each of their eyes in turn. “Smart is an entire town down and supplies grabbed with no major injuries. That carnage in Skeldr could be our victory.” Alcippe yawned and laid her head against Vidalia's neck. “How did they think we were getting the food before?” she muttered to the mule. snilf, trilf, and rhuarc Rhuarc watched the conversation like a tennis match, his eyes darting from Rose to Sigyn and back again as the debate escalated. He'd gasped softly, as if stung, the moment Rose had broken the silence by the campfire, squeezing his legs closer to his body while he listened. Rose's young apprentice had been mostly silent since Astrid's disappearance, and his quiet continued as Rose spoke, his small shoulder leaning on hers until she stood.
As Rose leaped to her feet to brandish the makeshift torch, Rhuarc's forelegs sprawled slightly to hold him upright. The fire glimmered off his eyes as they widened. With every shouted word, he seemed to grow smaller.
It didn't go unnoticed. "HEY," said Trilf in an exaggerated stage whisper, nudging Rhuarc with a smelly hoof. "ARE YOU GONNA EAT THAT?" While Rhuarc's petrified stare lowered to him, Trilf's brother clumsily grabbed the roasted apple resting between Rhuarc's knees. A pair of fuzzy noses worked together to roll it away through the dirt. As the apple vanished between the brothers in a fury of snorting, Rhuarc listened to the adults' conversation with ears pinned.
His heroes, these raiders of the Trespasser, had turned out to be much different than the young medic imagined. Consciously or not, the children had positioned themselves between Aubrey and Rose, the horses who had been familiar from Ghosthold. "Aubrey," Rhuarc said hesitantly, leaning away from the raised voices. "Do we have to go back to the ship?"

-transfer over from WF Plot 405-
Alvane stepped forward, towards her possessions and took another bite out of the apple she held. Quickly she pricked her ears as she heard someone yelling. Her head shot up, dropping the rest of her apple and began looking around. Almost like a deer in headlights. “Cass, Be quiet” she barked as the mare went on about the colt setting the fire. Alvane swiveled her head around slowly, trying to see anything moving, any light source or to maybe hear the yelling again. Her nostrils flared as she set herself on high alert. “THERE” A dim warm glow caressed a line of trees to her right. She watched the flames dance while trying to see if she could hear anything. Nothing, only the low chattering of both adult and child. Though it was unknown to her a number of equines there.
Her mind wandered “No one else is supposed to be out here” The mare squinted. “None of ours anyway,” She said aloud to herself. She thought for a bit. They could easily be a multitude of things. A small War Forged Clan on the move, possibly Vagabonds and dare she say it. Bloody Flanks. She spun her ears back. She turned to the other two and faced them with a snort. She began pacing. She didn't know who she was dealing with. But instead bit her tongue trying her hardest not to go in there swords blazing. She needed to think, what was the plan of action. It was obvious they were out numbered. A unit of 2 and a half horses weren’t exactly the best for a battle. And for sure Hira herself would strip Alvane of her rank if she decided to attack, though it would be more or less likely she’d be killed before getting home.
She stopped and looked at Cass. “What do you think we should do? I’d much rather fight but I don’t know who they are and I don't think we are not in the right shape to do so” Her eyes drifted down to Ales. The mare took note of Cassi’s opinion “I would suggest we leave and return home to report …” She paused, lowering her head a bit “but we don’t have a lot of information to be satisfied with” Alvane noted, brushing her gauntlets together. “We don't know who they are so it’s not exactly valid information” She tsked trying to weigh their options, Before returning to her cloak and holster and began putting them on again. “Besides, We move now we risk attack from other forest animals such as wolves and bears or maybe another group of outsiders who are not too pleased to see us”
The night sky had notably crept over. Looking up from the clearing the sky twinkled with thousands of tiny bright stars. And the sun's afterglow sank under the weight of the horizon. “I don’t know if it is wise to stay as we are, but it might be our only option.” The yelling started again. “Or we could insert ourselves” The mare stepped forward, looking at the other two. “Come on, It wouldn’t hurt to try. It’s not like we have a lot of option. We stay here, they are going to see our fire, just like we have seen them” The mare stepped out of the clearing and into the trees, coming off the broken path. “Maybe we can get valid information” She again stepped forward inviting her travel companions. And began walking onwards.

Cassiopeia | Scout
Transfer from 405
Cassiopeia and Alvane debated who would make the fire and when Alvane told her to be silent, the appaloosa mare was ready to jump her. But before she could muster the strength to launch herself at her companion, the twinkle of fire out the corner of her eye caught her attention. To turned to look where the glint of light between the trees came from, and sure enough she could see the flicker. And bodies. More bodies than them, talking, arguing and paying no heed to their presence. Were they lost souls? No. Alvane continued to mutter, speaking of all the possibilities. What they could do. Who these strangers were. The entire time, Cassi's eyes were focused forward, watching. They were outnumbered easily. And Ales hardly counted as a scout or a warrior. While Cassi couldn't make out what they were saying the heated tone was enough. There was an argument.
Alvane considered all they should do. Do they turn and go home? Or approach them? Cassiopeia glanced back to Ales her face twisting in distaste, "Ales, if either Alvane or I tell you to go, you turn and run back the way we came and don't stop." she commanded without question before looking to Alvane and nodding her head, "We should see why they're here." she said, her voice a hush. Even though there was no chance the group ahead of them could here them at the distance they were. Cassiopeia picked up her hooves and began to proceed forward with Alvane close at hand. The mule crept through the trees, pausing every so often to watch and listen. She assessed their numbers. Five or six horses that she could see through the trees, not including the three children they had with them. Though one looked to only be a few years younger than the child they too had in tow.
They were within listening distance and certainly close enough to be heard by them. Cassi shared a glance with Alvane before setting her head back, holding it high, "Greetings." Cassi spoke her voice raised, certainly loud enough for the squabbling ground to hear her. She stepped out from under the cover of trees so they could easily see her if they turned to look her way. Cassi could see them easier now, their faces weren't any she recognized. But Alvane, Ales and herself were certainly outnumbered. Cassi felt particularly naked in just her fur cape.

Coming over from plot 405
Ales huffed silently as Cassiopeia stated her case that he should make the fire since he was training. "I totally know how to make a fire. I'm not completely helpless." He muttered silently under his breath, perking up as the other two noticed a distraction in the far bushes and went to investigate. Ales snuck behind the others as they crept through the trees to see what was around the fire on the other side, keeping his distance in case it broke out into a fight. As much training that he had had with Addy and Aly in the past, he didn't even trust himself in a fight. He flicked his ear at Jaggy, prompting the eagle to get to a higher perch to keep watch, and (just in case) prepare to fly back to wherever dad was traveling to signal trouble, just like Ed told him to do (multiple times... like at least five times during breakfast).
"Ales, if either Alvane or I tell you to go, you turn and run back the way we came and don't stop."
"Yes, ma'am." He said, mentally going back through the path to remember the exact route, and trying not to look like a caught mouse as Cassiopeia stepped out into the clearing and revealed herself to the other horses. He glanced over at Alvane, waiting for a signal to follow or get out of there.

Rose Though part of her was still burning to beat faces into the dirt, the unease in her apprentice's voice brought events back into perspective. They had more pressing matters than ideologies and petty pride; a point which couldn't have been more poignant the second an unfamiliar voice rang out across the camp. Two horses were suddenly in view; a unicorn and a common.
In one swift motion, Rose returned her flaming toothpick to the pile and turned to address their visitors. Again her body moved instinctively to separate their young from the possible threats. Before she dared even breathe at the strangers, the Medic leaned down to warn the little ones.
"Don't say a damn thing about who we are," she said, blowing on Snilf and Trilf's faces to ensure they were paying attention. "I'll give you a reward later if you're good, alright?"
Her eyes slid to Rhuarc. She was less worried about him causing trouble, but gave him a stern nod all the same. They needed to tread carefully. Considering their location, she had no doubt that the two before them were War-Forged; judging from their reaction, it seemed they might believe the same of their present company. Maybe they could learn something; it wasn't as though they could run, and for the moment, they outnumbered the newcomers enough to stand their ground.
But if they weren't careful, that might not be the case for very long. And considering their earlier argument, she couldn't be sure how long the charade would last. She made a silent plea to Kaia that they would survive the encounter.
"Uhh, yeah hi.", she replied, trying to seem at least a little friendly or something. Anything but the aggressive, cornered beast that writhed about inside her. "Sorry, were we being too loud?", the mare asked, feigning concern.

Faraji | Bloody Flank Medic
Faraji's ears swivelled back and she raised her head to look across at Sigyn. She could feel the heat rush to her cheeks and her body tense as the other equine began to speak, defending the actions of their Captain with their own experiences. Sigyn's loyalty was admirable and in any other situation Faraji would have agreed. However this was not a normal situation. "It was pointless bloodshed," she said, preparing to say more when Rose turned to argue back at Sigyn. She held her mouth shut, watching as the argument slowly escalated. There was not much else she could add to the conversation that Rose had not brought up. She agreed with most of what the older medic had to say. Her eyes darted towards Alcippe then as the palomino spoke up and was unsurprised by her response. There were times when Faraji admired Alicppe's lack of empathy and there were times when she just didn't understand it. Which was what she was feeling right about now. She made good points but Faraji still couldn't see it as something that helped them. All it had done was show them what Vidar was capable of and surely she could not be the only one who was frightened by it.
"If anything, it was a show of power." She said, drawing her gaze up at Rose who still brandished the flaming piece of wood. She was about to say more when movement drew her attention. The abrupt change in Rose's action was more than enough warning for her. Her stomach clenched, glancing at the crew sprawled around the camp fire until two new faces appeared. Faraji could only hope to Kaia that these two were not out scouting for Bloody Flanks. Following Rose's lead, Faraji offered the two of them a friendly smile.

Aubrey | War-Forged | Bloody Flank Merchant
As the shouting grew louder being the group of Bloody Flanks, Aubrey turned her attention to the darkness around them. Her ears trained to listen for anything in the brush around them. It was already a fear of hers that their fire would bring unwanted attention. In the darkness of the hills around them, their fire could be easily spotted for miles. Wolves and other predators wouldn't come near them. They feared the burning, flicking light of the fire, but other equine could be a probably even in this remote part of Onea, and now with all of this yelling and arguing, they would only be even more noticeable. She snorted with frustration, her telekinesis traveling over the handle to the war-hammer that rested heavily against her side.
The children that were with the group were resting close beside her, and the spotted mare looked over at them, making sure they were alright despite the heated argument going on around them. The two youngest, Snilf and Trilf, probably wouldn't truly understand what was going on, but Rhuarc was old enough to know about death and fighting and fighting among the people who he might think are safe might shake him up. She could see Rhuarc's ears pinned against his head in the darkness, and his eyes looked widely around at the shouting adults. "Aubrey, do we have to go back to the ship?" He asked her hesitantly, his voice barely over a whisper. Aubrey let out a small sigh, her salmon-colored eyes looking over at the young medic. "The ship is the safest place for us right now, Rhuarc... even if it doesn't seem so right now. They might sound loud and angry, but sometimes that's how adults get their opinions across to others. We're still Bloody Flanks, and Bloody Flanks stick together." Or at least some of them did. Aubrey offered him a small smile, careful not to speak too loudly in case someone around them was listening to her instead of the debate.
Their conversation had distracted her from their surroundings and the sudden sound of a greeting from the shadows caused her to jump slightly and grab her hammer, ready to fight if need be. Rose seemed to be playing nice, however, a small, friendly smile cast on her features, so Aubrey loosened her grip slightly, and one of her wings subtlety slid closer to Rhuarc, ready to shield him from any attack if necessary.
There were at least three that she could see clearly so far, and Aubrey could only imagine there were more in the darkness surrounding their camp so that they couldn't escape. Too bad these strangers had picked the wrong camp to mess with. The Bloody Flanks were already heated from their argument, and despite their feud with each other, Aubrey knew that they would fight together to the death if need be. Although her thoughts remained on fighting and studying the strangers for weaknesses, she faked a relaxed posture, a welcoming smile painted across her face.

Sigyn || Scout || Status: Being a dick, but what else is new
"Too much pity is your problem, so pity me if you must, and if you do strike me, try not to aim for my good side." Sigyn responded, scoffing as they turned back around to move closer to Alcippe. The mare was good company, and admittedly more level headed than Sigyn themself, so they trusted the palomino to take control of the situation. Sigyn was not the competitive sort, nor the jealous type, so being in command wasn't their issue; they just would not stand for blatant disrespect for Vidar.
They mostly ignored the rest of the talking, settling themself back down onto the frozen ground and began picking dirt and ice out of the joints on their prosthetic. One shouting match was enough for a day, and Sigyn really didn't fancy a physical fight; not against another Bloodyflank at least, idiotic or not.
They quickly rose to their hooves again, however, when suddenly they had visitors. They were tense for only a moment before quickly relaxing, they hardly seemed dangerous, though the fact that they were most likely main-herders did set their mind on edge. Even so they tilted their head curiously at them and gave a warm smile.
"Ah yes, you'll have to excuse my companion here, she does have quite a loud mouth." They said, casting a teasing glance back at Rose before returning the smile to the newcomers, "Would you care to join us at our fire, it is awfully cold tonight."

-transfer over from WF Plot 405-
Alvane bowed her head towards the small pack of horses that sat around the campfire. Allowing what seemed to be the leader of their pack to move towards them. “Greetings” Alvane put on a fake smile, seeming soft and enlightened by the visit, though really she was digging her back hoof into the dirt. She put her ears forward and held her head up high. Looking up to the mammoth of a horse who approached her “Sorry to startle you” She tilted her head a bit “On the contrary. We were setting up camp across the way and heard yelling. We just came across to see if everything was alright” She tried to stay factual. Not knowing who they are may cause more problems if Alvane’s band tried to lie through their teeth. Though the thought had crossed her mind.
A voice spoke behind the large mare. The adult stallion made a sly comment about them being loud. Obviously aiming the blame on the mare that stood in front of Alvane and Cassi. There was a moment of awkward silence until the stallion continued. Offering them to join the pack as company. Alvanes ears twitched, a questioning expression crossed her face as she turned to Cassi. “Ah” She looked towards the mule to see her thoughts. Alvane wasn’t sure what to think. The blue haired mare began eyeing the children. Three young colts. Maybe one just slightly younger than their apprentice. They could be baiting them but she felt a little safer with children being there. The warmth of the fire called to her, each second more tempting than the last. “If you’ll have us” She lowered her head “We understand if you prefer we leave.”
Her eyes rolled over to a bat winged pegasus who was noticeably looking past her. Most likely seeing the colt who had hung back. “Oh” Alvane turned herself 45 degrees, her attention pointing towards the colt. “Ales, it’s safe. You can come out now” She spoke softly to him, trying to seem nicer than she actually was, Allowing the colt to reach her side. She herself didn’t exactly want to join them but it would be rude not to.
Alvane didn’t recognize any of them, Though didn’t want to point hooves just yet. “We were just out here training our apprentice, setting up camp for the night” again trying to be sweet as she mentioned Ales. “We can see you have children with you also” Her head bowing towards them. “How rude of me.” She continued. “My name is Alvane, And this is Cassi, We are scouts. And this is Ales who is a scout in training” Alvane regained eye contact with the large mare, now offering her name and rank and hoped Rose would do the same.

VIDALIA | WAR FORGED | BLOODY FLANKS RAIDER Vidalia locked her neck as Cipp leant against it, embracing the gesture. She had come to accept the mare's generally impassive demeanour, admired it even, for it alone was often enough to dismantle disputes with nothing but sharp word…
Though one could say the occasional blade that followed never went amiss either.
Had they all really been so clueless to believe that the Bloody Flanks managed to survive off merchant treaties or perhaps, the sheer goodness of others hearts alone? For years they had barely had enough supplies to feed their own clan, let alone enough spare to trade. A low rumble of mirth built up from her girth and spilt over at the offhand question; there wasn’t much left to be said, but the mule humoured Alcippe anyway, grateful for the brief distraction. “Asked nicely, I guess.”
As the twins knocked the forlorn apple from Rhuarc’s grasp however, Vidalia began to tune out the sound of her shipmates’ heightened voices again; ears twitching periodically to listen to the forest, the fire, for anything that sounded out of place and there- She stood up suddenly, still poised next to Alcippe, fixated off into the distance. The handle of her hammer rose casually, broken links of teke running the length of it, though the head still remained planted firmly in the dirt.
Throwing caution to the wind, or perhaps overestimating their own abilities, outsiders approached the camp as though they were amongst friends, and Vidalia could not help but watch curiously as the red mare bowed to Rose; enlivened by the group’s bold entrance, and their naivety.
Neither side was particularly adept at lying, that soon became clear; but as much as she loathed for them to accept a place by the fire, there was some benefit to have them close at hand, if indeed they were merely what they proclaimed.
“Goin’ to keep watch.” She murmured, voicing her musing aloud to try and prevent further animosity from rising.
Pulling away from what warmed her more than any fire, and dragging the war hammer alongside her like a belligerent dog, Vidalia went to stand apart from the group to survey the forest; aware that there was a good chance they had managed to draw more than just this lot to their location.

Coming over from plot 405
Ales stepped out silently from the forest line at Alvane's call, watching the other foals from a distance and itching to go over there and play with them. He glanced over at Alvane and Cassiopeia, and then looked past the others at the fire not entirely sure if he could or not. Most of the horses over by the fire seemed big and slightly scary, though to be fair raiders that visited his father at their home were still terrifying to the sheltered colt. None of the horses seemed familiar to him, and he had seen a lot of horses, both in his trips to the market, or the visitors to visit his father for Stone Circle business. Most of Ales wanted to heed his father's words and think carefully before he acted, the rest of him really really wanted to sit by that fire and just play with the others. He continued to watch over all of the horses as a mixture of fear and excitement bubbled at the surface of his mind, barely able to control the Blessing given to him by Argus.

Rose Sigyn's remark was nearly enough to egg her back into a yelling match, but she settled for tossing a stray rock at the scout's rear with her telekinesis. Rose watched the proceedings carefully as her comrades introduced themselves. The situation became notably less tense Vidalia removed herself from the equation; no doubt their greater numbers were a bit intimidating. The emergence of the Forged horses' own young one was a bit surprising, but as the twins bounded up to the newcomer and began playfully nipping at his ankles, she felt a bit more at ease.
Regarding the mare who'd given their names, Rose responded in kind.
"I'm Rose, and these are my traveling companions.", she explained, gesturing their present company. "We're heading south but got a little sidetracked. Heard something happened in a town nearby, what was it called?", turning to the remaining Flanks.
Of course, they knew exactly what'd happened to Holmsa, but it would be interesting to learn if the Forged knew much. Their guests didn't seem to be very high ranked, so if they didn't know then it had yet to become common knowledge. At the most, she surmised, they might know that Holmsa's residents had disappeared. Since only the Flanks had escaped the scene alive, the cause would be a mystery to all but a few.

Faraji | Bloody Flank Medic
Faraji watched from her position by the fire as Rose spoke with the War-Forged scouts. Lying by the warmth of the fire, trying to appear relaxed while the rest of her told her otherwise. With Vidalia taking up a look out position, Faraji glanced across to the rest of the Flanks and their new arrivals. The flames blocked her vision so she could not see further then the blue maned mare and her companion. But that was alright, she told herself right up until Alvane called into the shadows. Her eyes widened and she expected to see a full grown equine, possilby a raider, coming out of the shadows. Except it wasn't. It was a timid young colt. A trainee. Her heart lurched and she was unable to stop her thoughts as they went back to Holsma. There had been young foals there too.
Faraji watched the twins as the bounded up to Ales and sighed. Those two were a handful, but it seemed as though they would provide a good distraction for the boy at least. As long as those two kept their mouths shut then the Flanks should be alright. Her ears flicked as Rose spoke, addressing them and Faraji put on a thoughtful expression. She hoped she looked convincing because her heart had began to race. "Ahh, I believe it might have been Holsma?" Faraji said, making her voice sound uncertain as she glanced up at Rose and then to Alvane and her companions.

Cloaked in her matching pin-striped Arsenal of next month's nows
Alcippe eyed the newcomers with a feeling just this side of disinterest. The departure of Vidalia held her interest longer and were she a kinder mare she would have found something like worry. The three by the fire held little threat—severely outnumbered and possibly extremely stupid if they were alone. The only threat came if they weren't. If that were true, Dally was meandering her way to triggering an ambush. Well, if anyone did—it would be Dally. Alcippe didn't believe in things like overall luck as a rule but the amount of scrapes the dedicated mule had found herself in gave her pause. Of course, the more credible answer was that she didn't seem to move beyond the moment in her strategy. She was all heart, headlong and rushing and weirdly often wet from going overboard in both a figurative and literal sense. The palomino glanced at the trio again, evaluating. The Bloody Flanks had the advantage even with this specific ragtag mix of them. It was actually almost a blessing the boys were on board. It meant they looked less threatening. Alcippe had skirted the Onean society enough to know that they, as in women, wouldn't be expected to be fighters, at least not ones with experience. Scouts at best. Weapons could be explained on the wilds surrounding them. Sigyn, due to tired Onean stereotypes, might have been threatening other than their leg. Alcippe had little doubt they could conduct themselves well if it came to blows. Though by rights, she wasn't sure it wasn't inevitable. If the three were alone the safest thing, the smart thing would be to silence them right now and move on with the night. Holmsa was enough of a marker and they didn't need living witnesses to their state. Alcippe got to her feet. Shouldering her hammer, she stole after Vidalia, peering into the darkness beyond the fire. It was the children making her hesitate to just slam them with a scream into the fire. She nodded at Dras and then at the kids and the wolf whined only once before padding over to sit beside the young ones. She wouldn't like getting her scruff pulled but she could at least drag someone out of harm's way if need be. Alcippe - Bloody Flanks - Raider w | three hundred seventy seven - p | two

Coming over from plot 405
Ales giggled lightly, leaving the side of the other two scouts as two of the foals came over towards him, bouncing around like they wanted to play. He ran over to the twins, he assumed since they looked so much alike, and the three of them almost immediately started running around each other playing a good old game of tag, a short distance from the fire. The young scout hardly was paying attention to what was being said among the other members of both parties, and found he cared little when two of them broke away from the camp. After all, they were close enough to the circuit that he could remember his way back if something happened, and what was the worst that could happen now that there were so many herd mates around? No Bloody Flank clansmen or Vagabond would bother such a large band of horses right? Ales took pause, almost falling over one of the twins, Snilf maybe?, when one of the new horses mentioned the town of Holmsa. He turned around and faced the others confusingly.
"Holmsa? You mean that town down south that Old Lady Bahar lives?" He said looking between Cassiopeia and Alvane, to make sure he heard correctly. "Didn't Hira send out a patrol over that way recently?"

Alvane watched the overo mule get up and seem to move a little away from the group. Her attention coming back to Rose. “Nice to meet you, Rose of clan ...” She tailed off in a questioning manner, glancing around “And the rest of your companions” Alvane allowed the mare to continue about their plans. Another mare piping in to mention the camp's name. Alvane eyed the mare that was laying down by the fire. She had barely noticed her before as she had kept quiet and still. Though the blue haired mare pricked her ears at her, giving her and eye up and down. Taking a fancy to her green eyes.
“Holsma, yeah I’m been there a few times on the passing. Somethings happened to it ?” again looking at Rose for an answer now a little suspect. “Had they done something to it inhabitants?” Her eyes narrowed. Now focused more on their weapons and stance. Ales bumped into Alvane's back leg making her flinch a little. He played with the two smaller foals. His attention turning to the group and opened his mouth to say something about Hira sending a patrol that way. Alvane's ears dropped, her head darting to the colt as if to say shut up. “By Alya’s Wings, He had to mention that” She stuttered a bit “Y-Yeah, that place” Now beginning to tense up again.
“Have you all been traveling together long?” Alvane perked up, giving a long look around the odd assortment of horses. The foals were obviously none of their own. Though the two she assumed were twins could have been Rose’s. Though she was very unsure as she didn’t seem all that concerned with them. Alvane took a step closer to Cassi's side. Trying to inch herself away from the kids. She almost brushed up against the mule unintentionally. “Get ready to back off if need be” she whispered lightly to the mule, hoping the large mare couldn’t hear while she was distracted with the Alvane’s question. “Something's not right, Take the colt as far away as possible and don’t look back.” Alvane tailed off. Her eyes never leaving the group in front of them. The smile returned to her lips as if she had been listening the whole time. Still keeping her attention on the Grullo.

Aubrey | War-Forged | Bloody Flank Merchant
The blacksmith watched the horses around her carefully as the conversations around her bounced between the Flanks and the newcomers. She tried to look as friendly and innocent as she could even though Aubrey wasn't used to smiling and it may look more like a grimace. This could get ugly very quickly if they weren't careful. They probably should avoid talking about the town they had raided all together in case word hadn't spread about Holmsa's death and destruction yet. Aubrey wasn't sure how fast word would spread especially since they hadn't left anyone alive to tell their tale, and if these horses were War-Forged, they'd probably feel the need to take revenge for their fallen brethren. It was then that Rose brought up the town, saying that they were traveling and got distracted by rumors they had heard of what had happened. At least she pretended not to know the name of the little settlement.
Her ear swiveled toward Faraji who sat beside her, and her brows knit together with mock confusion as the mare said Holmsa with uncertainty in her tone. 'Oh gods, I hope these horses are buying this. We have children here. They'll be in danger if we have to fight.' Aubrey thought worriedly. At least they seemed to have numbers on their side though, and the Flanks were probably more skilled fighters than the strangers.
Her pink eyes scanned the small group, and her eyes settled on one equine who leaned over to the horse beside them and whispered something inaudible. She felt her muscles tighten and the tension in the group rising- or was that just her imagination? The pegasus mare leaned toward Faraji, her leathery wing touching the medic's side before she whispered. "I don't think this is going to be pretty. We need to make sure the children make it to the ship safely if anything happens." Aubrey's voice was barely audible over the crackling of the fire, and she turned her head toward Rhuarc, Snilf, and Trilf. She'd make sure they made it even if it was the last thing she did.

Rose Though she had hoped to keep their meeting brief and non-confrontational, Rose could feel the tension building in both sides; one of the scouts in particular seemed uneasy, her words prying at the unspoken details of the Bloody Flank's party. It would take a miracle to convince such skeptics of much; she surmised that only the children's presence kept them from each other's throats. The scouts weren't going to trust them, and the Flanks' patience was spent. If they were going to avoid a brawl, it was time to go.
With a sigh and a snort, the Medic turned to circle the campfire. Stopping across from the scouts, Rose made quick and urgent eye contact with the Flanks. She hoped that they were ready.
"Look, it's nothing personal.", she said simply, "But we're not in the mood to play 20 questions with you. Go home."
Turning away, she kicked out with her hind legs, sending flaming logs flying behind her. And they might not have been so dangerous, except for the fact that they were surrounded by flammable foliage. Rounding behind her apprentice, she pushed him into a run with a shove and took off in the direction of the shoreline. Catching them would be the least of the scouts' worries in a minute. She might've spared a moment to worry if her companions could keep pace, but they were Bloody Flanks; they would find a way.
"Run!", she screamed as the thunk of projectiles hitting trees and falling into the underbrush was soon followed by the orange glow of a budding forest fire.

After the confused questioning, it took little prompting from the twins for Ales to go back to his game of tag with the two. After all, hearing about some town that Hira already sent a group to only confirmed that something was going on in the town that should be investigated, which was already in the process of being taken care of. He and Trilf jumped over a log, avoiding Snilf, who was now yelling about how he was going to catch them. As they were giggling and running around, trying to avoid Snilf as well as each other, just in case they became the dreaded "it", none of the three noticed the rise in tensions from the older horses. Ales didn't even care to pay attention to the other two scouts he was with as Alvane told Cassiopeia to retreat.
All the sudden their playtime was cut abruptly short as one of the larger mares kicked the fire logs in the direction of the forest, taking off and shoving the other young colt at the fireside to follow her. The three children looked confusedly, before Snilf bounded over to a stunned and confused Ales, placed a hoof on his side yelling "You're it next time!" Before the two of them followed after the large unicorn mare. Ales blinked confusedly as Jaggy landed on his saddlebag, leaving the tree he was perched due to the now spreading fire.
"Uh oh..." Ales said softly, looking around at the fire then running over to the other two scouts. "Ummmm I know I'm not trained and all, but I think we should probably leave now." He stated softly, his legs quaking in fear and ready to bolt at a moments notice.

Sigyn || Scout || Status: Havin' A Good Time (don't stop me noowww)
Sigyn had thought the plan would be to just let the main-herders believe them to just be way-faring vagabonds or something similar, but apparently that wasn't the case. Even so, they weren't going to complain and had promptly sat their bottom down to watch the conversation unfold with amusement, wondering when the breaking point would be reached. They weren't wholly surprised that they were taking the 'flight' route rather than 'fight', but they were slightly disappointed regardless. At least they would get to check in on Vidar once back aboard the ship. Snow flew up in their wake as they darted after Rose, always glancing around to make sure all the others of their party were keeping up and okay. Sigyn may not like all of them, and most of them probably didn't care too much for Sigyn, but they were still a team player and they would not leave on of their own behind lightly. The last thing this crew needed now was to become more splintered than they already were.
As glad as Sigyn was that the flaming logs weren't used against them, they still worried that a fire may soon be blazing after them and while they hardly cared if the main-herders were caught up in it, they hardly fancied the idea of being burned alive and so they pushed on faster, though they found themself stumbling slightly every few strides as their false hoof caught on roots and rocks hidden beneath snow and brush.

Faraji | Bloody Flank Medic
Faraji could feel herself grow tense and she hoped that it didn't show visibly. She gave a small nod in Aubrey's direction, reaching out with her faint green teke she gave the coin hanging from Rhuarc's horn a flick, almost making the poor boy jump out of his skin. "Easy," she spoke softly, eyes flickering towards the scouts. She didn't know if he got her message or not but minutes later she believed he did. With tension and suspicion growing between the two groups, with the exception of the twins and the colt, Faraji was ready as soon as Rose decided enough was enough. The little bay mare was on her hooves in an instant, swinging her head towards the two mischievous twins. "Snilf, Trilf!" She called and was pleased when the two of them came running. Faraji didn't move until the twins were racing past her, laughing and kicking at each other as they went. Rhuarc was already gone, she could see his small figure running in the direction of the ship. With the children out of the way, running as fast as they can towards the ship. Faraji began to follow, galloping after them as the fire began to spread behind them,

VIDALIA | WAR FORGED | BLOODY FLANKS RAIDER
Vidalia couldn't say that she was caught unaware when the conference went up in flames, though she hadn't expected it to take up such a literal form. With no recent snowfall to dampen the embers, it took only seconds for the displaced blaze to consume the vegetation around them, and blind any who stared at it for too long. With a collected gaze, the mule searched the campsite for Jaskółka, but it soon became clear the silver wolf had already bolted, the rising tension too much for even her craven heart to bear.
Swinging her hammer up and above her shoulder in a routine, practiced move, Vidalia abandoned her post and loped off towards the ship, weaving between the trees and falling back behind the rest of her band. She despised keeping track of so many bodies, especially with ones raw in the art of combat.
The raider felt no real urgency to return to the Trespasser first however, and couldn't shake the feeling the scouts might give chase if they kept up their impulsive need to blunder headfirst into foreign affairs.
Maybe they could take it up the discussion with her hammer this time. coded by pinn @ thqRise and fall, the tide surrounds and drowns us all.
