Chasing the Sunft Chirin, Ezmeralda, & MuirisBlackBee123 | BlueUnicornJ13 | War-Colt
Set in late spring after Chapter 3. The eastern pastures have had an unusual dry spell for the past three days. Horses in the area must find water or risk dehydrating. The only source of water in the valley is a small glacial river, tinted crystal blue from the cold. This seems like a perfect place to mingle, cool off and have some fun!

Chirin War-Forged | Herder
It was unseasonably warm for the Onean pastures. Well above Chirin's comfort zone because lets face it. Bashkir Curly fluff wasn't exactly the best coat to have in the fast approaching summer. However his fuzz did wonders in the winter. He was just happy he had gotten the Apana flock sheered and Maples coat trimmed early.
As the roan colt walked behind his flock, he shot the sun a quick glare, cursing Ignacio for deciding today was the day for ridiculous temperatures. It haddn't rained in the area for about three days and the once lush, long grass was starting to dry out. The long stalks crunched ever so slightly under his semi-cloven hooves. What used to be a very good grazing pasture was drying out and he had to move his flock to somewhere with more water.
Looking around, Chirin noticed that he was in a valley. Small, hill-like bluffs surrounded him on all sides, excluding the front and back. Tall Red Wood and Cedar trees loomed over the rocks and sparse underbrush. Rivers run between mountains. Its how some of them even got there.
Regretfully picking up the pace to a steady trot, Chirin asked Maple to herd the flock to the far middle, in hopes that there would be a small river over the crest of the hill. As they passed a small outcrop of dried bushes, one of the younger Apana startled, taking off over the hill at full speed. The commotion had also startled Chirin and Maple and it took the colt a moment to decipher what had happened. Looking into the grass he saw a black and yellow ribbon slithering away from the bush.
A freaking Garter Snake. The only thing that one would do is let off a nasty smell. It didn't even have fangs big enough to give a second thought!
Maple started to go after the run-away, but Chirin called her back to keep the rest of the flock in check, going after the Apana himself. Apana were deceptive fast, making Chirin take off at a break-neck sprint,
“You're not getting away that easy!”

The warm almost summer sun hung high in the sky, threatening to overheat all who were not used to such heat. With the lack of rain over the past few days, the Onean pastures had started to wilt. Muiris found himself hating this heat almost as much as the grass beneath his hooves. His thick coat was not made for anything but a snow packed ground and a chilly breeze. However, the weather did not seem to agree with him, and opted to trying to melt him instead. In order to combat the sun, the stallion wore one of his father's old cloaks. Its thin green fabric laid lightly across his back, just heavy enough to keep the heat from singing his hair, but light enough to let a breeze through and to keep him cool. It had an iron clasp at his chest, pinned together to keep it secure. His dragon claw necklace hung over it, making a soft ting noise every time it bumped the clasp.
Muiris waited atop one of the bluffs, positioning himself under the shade of a tall Cedar tree. He could hear the trickle of the mountain stream behind him, its cool water sounding overly inviting in the heat of the day. His long tail swished aimlessly behind him, keeping any annoying bugs at bay while they tried to find rest on his legs. He finally managed a day off, and told Ezmeralda to meet him here so they could spend the day together. It was long overdue, and nothing cured the stresses of life better than the comfort from nature alone.
Off in the distance, Muiris watched as his wolf laid crouched in the tall dry grass, her body still and ears pricked forward. Suddenly, as if the flood gates were released, she sprung from her spot and darted across the ground as fast as she could. The stallion's ears pricked forward as he watched her zip and zag through the grass, bounding almost like a deer when it got too tall.
Only a few moments passed, and it seemed as though she lost her prey, as she suddenly stopped and rose her head, dancing around in place before dropping down to dig at what Muiris assumed was a rabbit hole.
"Avonaco, leave that rabbit alone!" The stallion shouted, only to receive a glare from the canine when she brought her head up at the sound of his voice. She glanced back at the hole, but decided against it, trotting back to Muiris's side with her tongue lolled out of the side of her mouth. She wasn't enjoying this heat anymore than he was.

Ezmeralda | War-Forged | Herder
Part of her loved the warmer weather of the summer months even though they were very short-living in Onea. Different plants grew, and flowers sprouted into beautiful fields that were spotted with yellow, pink, blue, and every other color imaginable. Everything seemed so green and bright compared to the bleak, cold snow and ice that normally covered every surface in the lands that the War-Forged called home. Despite her love for the change in temperature, Ezmeralda also had her discontent with it. The sun seemed to be only 2 miles away from her instead of high up in the sky, overheating her body that was more accustomed to climbing through shoulder-high piles of snow. Sweat was already beginning to drip down her neck and face, and she had to pause occasionally to take a swig of her canteen. Another downside to the increased temperatures was the dwindling amounts of water. Small ponds were being evaporated by the intensity of the sun, and Cascade seemed to be withholding her precious rain from Onea.
The farmlands were not far from where Muiris had told her to meet him. It was a simple walk of about 4 miles to the valley where a glacial river with water as clear as crystal sat in the middle. Ezmeralda wasn't much of a swimmer, but at least she'd be able to get her hooves wet and cool off from this relentless heat. Plus, her familiar, Zeru, would probably enjoy wading in the river... as long as he didn't drift too far away from her. Her head turned to gaze back at the bird that rested neatly in the middle of her back, nestled down so far that he looked like a chubby ball of black and white feathers. Noticing her stare, the puffin let out a loud squawk, blinking his eyes slowly a few times before closing them again.
Her ears flicked forward when she heard something ahead of her. Was it... shouting? She came up a hill and nearly collided with a small, white object that was running at breakneck speeds toward her. With a yelp of surprise, Ezmeralda jumped out of the way just in time to see the creature dart past her on its swift, little legs. She squinted in confusion. What was an Apana doing out here by itself?
Clearing her thoughts and focusing her attention on the fleeting image of the Apana running down the hillside, she honed in her Beast Summoning blessing to draw the Apana back to her. As it stopped and turned toward her, she sent a silent thank-you to Kaia and Muiris for all those times they had spent practicing their gifts. The young livestock let out a little noise before hopping up the hill to stand at her side. Its eyes transfixed on her as she kept it under her spell. "Now to find where you came from, little one. I'm sure someone is missing you." The unicorn mare muttered to herself, looking around for any sign of anyone else other than them.

Chirin War-Forged | Herder
Holy CRAP was that small thing fast! About half way up the hill, Chirin had to switch to over drive just to keep up with the little Apana. Digging his hooves into the dry earth, the colt surged up the hill and over it.... but not before noticing someone on the other side and slamming on the breaks,
“Hey! Watch out!!” was all the colt had time to say before skidding down the hill and slamming straight into the other horse, causing the both of them to tumble down the grassy slope. As the two of them came to a stop at the bottom of the hill, Chirin immediately stood up and began to apologize profusely,
“Oh gosh, I'm SO sorry! I didn't think anyone would be out this far and I swear I didn't meant to crash into you! Are you okay?”
About to help the horse up, he colt stopped suddenly, “Hang on . . . . Ezmeralda?” Chirin gave the painted mare and befuddled look that quickly turned into an impish, sly grin, “You being this far out wouldn't have anything to do with that big dark stallion, would it?” He asked as he helped her up, cocking a brow.
The colt may have been young, but he sure as hell wasn't blind. He had noticed Ezmeralda talking quite often to a huge dark stallion. He didn't know of him well enough to know his name, but they were certainly quite the pair. He also seemed really nice and he remembered wanting to meet him but he had always seemed so busy that Chirin had never gotten the chance.
Giving a sharp whistle, Maple came bounding over the hill with the flock in front, the run-away quickly rejoining with it's mother. This day was certainly turning out to be interesting.

The stallion found himself resting against the tree, his eyelids slowly drooping more and more as each minute passed. He never felt like he got enough sleep these days, which was probably true, and the warm sun and gentle breeze were not helping. Even Avon laid down beside him, resting her head on his hoof and closing her single golden eye. For once, his spring allergies were giving the stallion a break, apart from the sniffle or sneeze every now and then. He.. almost felt at peace.
That was, until the sound of commotion over the hill snapped him back to attention. His heart thudded from the sudden startle, his ears pricked forward and eyes wide as he regained his bearings. Avon jumped to her feet as Muiris shook out his coat and started picking his way toward the edge of the hill.
Stopping and staring down, Muiris immediately recognized the painted mare at the bottom of the small scuffle. Scanning the others, he noticed a terrified looking Apana and a small, scruffy unicorn colt that Muiris recognized as well - but didnt know his name.
Glancing toward the wolf beside him, he motioned for her to follow before picking his way down the hill. His sharp shoes dug into the hillside to prevent him from slipping, as that would have caused even more of a crash. Avon bounded at his side, practically running circles around him as if she was showing off. The momentum had him trotting toward the end, coming to a halt beside the two unicorns. His thin cloak wrapped around his knees from the sudden stop.
"Now what happened here?" He asked, grinning in amusement.

Ezmeralda | War-Forged | Herder
Ezmeralda had just finished looking over the little Apana to see any signs of who its owner may possibly be when someone collided with her, knocking the wind from her lungs as they both tumbled down a hill. At least the spring grass was soft and springy as she somersaulted over herself until rolling to the bottom of the slope with a grunt as she flopped in the grass. Her puffin, Zeru, had flown off her back just in time and settled down beside her as she shook her head, not daring to stand up quite yet as dizziness made her vision swirl and dance. Her green eyes squinted at the voice she heard beside her that was profusely apologizing for running into her as she started to make out features of the smaller horse. "It's alright. I-I wasn't expected to find many others out this way either." She said with a small smile, blinking rapidly to try to focus her vision.
As moments passed, her dizziness faded, and features of the horse who had run into her became clearer. She first saw his curly, roan coat and then the green horn that poked out from his forehead, and the mare blinked in surprise as she recognized who it was just as he recognized her as well. "Chirin? It's so nice to see you and pleasantly unexpected." Ezmeralda offered him a smile as she rose to her hooves with his help and brushed off some of the dirt on her pelt. “You being this far out wouldn't have anything to do with that big dark stallion, would it?” A curious expression crossed her face at Chirin's question that was soon joined with a light blush. "U-um... p-perhaps... if we're talking about the same dark stallion." Her voice quiet with shyness as her eyes slid from where she had been looking at the hills around them for any signs of Muiris back to where Chirin stood beside her.
Her attention darted to movement out of the corner of her eye as she saw movement coming toward them down the sloping hill, and after a brief moment of her jumping with surprise, a warm smile appeared on her face at the sight of the familiar horse and wolf trotting toward them. A chuckle escaped her at the obvious amusement on Muiris's face, and Ezmeralda looked down at Chirin as she spoke, "I just bumped into an old friend while I was looking for you. Chirin, this is Muiris. Muiris, this is Chirin." She introduced them, unsure if they had ever met before.

Chirin War-Forged | Herder
The foal cast the painted mare a sly smile when he saw the same huge dark stallion as before come trotting down the steep hill, “Yeah, this is exactly who I was talking about, Ezzie.” he said with a slight chuckle.
Walking up to the seal bay, Chirin dipped his head, greeting the larger horse, “It's nice to finally meet you. Ezzie's pretty private, but I've seen you two together before. Not to sound disrespectful, sir, but you two are not exactly subtle.” the colt cast his gaze over his shoulder to Ezmeralda at the last part.
Turning back to the stallion Chirin laughed a bit, “And to answer your question, I umm.... kinda bowled Ezzie down the hill. I was chasing after one of my Apanas and didn't know she was on the other side.” he said with an amused smile.
Maples bark caught his attention and he looked over to find her playfully pawing at the large wolf Muiris had brought with him. From the look on the wolf, it was having none of the young dog's crap today. Cocking a brow, Chirin sighed,
“Maple, leave the wolf alone.” When she didn't listen, Chirin gave a sharp whistle through his teeth. Immediately the ginger dog bounded away from the wolf and began lazily following the Apana herd as they grazed slowly.

The stallion glanced toward the colt as Ezmeralda introduced him, giving a slight nod. Muiris recognized him from the commotion on the bridge, though he had never caught his name. Chirin. That was good to know. "Nice to meet you." His voice rumbled, but halted before he was able to continue. His lips pressed together at the colt's comment about him and Ezzie not being.. subtle. Brows knitting together, he snorted. What was that supposed to mean? His gaze raised as Chirin mentioned bowling Ezzie over, tipping his head ever so slightly as he did a quick glance over the painted mare. She seemed unhurt, that was all that he cared about. Always the fussy one, he was.
At the soft call of an apana, he turned his attention to the frazzled herd for only a moment. Apana were such a strange creature, and he couldnt say he necessarily liked them. In his days as a herding hermit, they always knew how to take advantage of his size and lack of agility and outran him constantly. His muzzle twitched as he stared pointedly at the animals before turning back to the little ground.
Opening his mouth to speak, he was cut off by a growl from the canine at his side. Glancing down, he found the colt's pup attempting to play with Avon, who was not one bit pleased. Casually, Muiris wrapped a hoof around the wolf and dragged her into his embrace, tucking her snugly between his two thickly feathered front legs. She glared up at him with her golden single eye, but made no attempt at an escape. She knew it was not worth it.
"Anyways," Muiris spoke back up after clearing his throat and flicking his forelock from his eyes. His attention settled on Ezmeralda for a moment. While he was looking forward to spending the day alone with her while he had a chance, he felt awfully rude writing off Chirin. It was a nice day, they had might as well share it. Turning his gaze back toward Chirin, he let a smile crawl across his dark lips. "Do you want to come with us? We were going to go to the river." Squinting against the sun, he shuffled his cloak against his shoulder. It was much cooler by the water.
