Featuring Sage Rycaron & Iron Hoof Katarina Set between Chapters 3 & 4
Aqua eyes stared out at a sky of a lighter hue, tracking the fluffy clouds that moved across in a great swathe. Lithe figures could be spotting flitting here and there on errands, or simply stretching their wings, going about errands. Not birds, no, but pegasi. So many, those that called Sedo and Osulas home, or brought back supplies. The Talori official took a deep breath, centering himself and grounding his emotions, so he wouldn't give his uneasiness away. So he could hide his sorrow, anxiety, homesickness. None here needed to be party to his inner thoughts, especially the more unflattering ones. The prejudice, it would be called, if he were truthful to himself, as it would be called by all others. Oh Wave Mother, please see us through this safely, and that I make no blunders with Alya's people, Rycaron prayed, wishing there were a body of water close enough to go bath in, where he could truly feel closer to his goddess and at peace. Or as close as he was likely to be in his current state. Gaze lowered as movement was detected, a black and red pegasus mare, matching the description Sultan Osprey had given him yesterday during a meeting. This mare was an Iron Hoof, a highly trusted warrior of his, and someone who would also be his guide and protector for the day. The goldfish hippocampus dipped his head slightly in a polite greeting, pulling an amiable expression onto features that was easily found after years of use being a diplomat. "Greetings." | Katarina Iron Hoof WC: 265 // Post #1 |
Katarina begrudgingly launched herself off the top of the main plateau, the city growing as she slowly dived down the cliff side. Lazily turning back towards the city, she landed not far from where she was expected.
Osprey, her Sultan, had ordered her to escort one of the guests from Talori. From her briefings (and overheard rumors) of the subject, they had fled their country because of some problem on their mainland. Only a few escaped, mainly important leaders, the Emperor, and some of his concubines and their children. Some had even been born very recently, she had heard. But that didn't help the fact that they seemed to dislike pegasi, giving them odd looks in the street. Something wasn't quite right about that.
She pulled her feelings back into their shell, keeping them tight and locked away. Her charge was the Sage, a very political savvy equine paired with a wicked impenetrable facade that he put up. Despite this, he might be a good equine, but for all she knew, he was a hippocampus that was trying to manipulate her emotions.
"Greetings." he said, lowering his head slightly. A mistake for him, as she did not find his demeanor in any way reassuring. Like a snake, waiting in the sand for the small mouse to wander by. But you have mistaken me for a mouse, when in fact I am a wildcat, aware of your presence and not the least bit amused.
"My name is Katarina. I am to be your guide for the day, but also double as protection, should the need arise."

Well she seemed very...closed off. That was Rycaron's first impression of his guide and guard, and he mentally sighed. Perhaps today was going to be more work than he had originally thought, if he was going to have to closely read this mare all day to make sure he didn't do or say anything wrong. Perhaps she was simply not a people person, Cascade knows that was true with Thuamas, and the pair had gotten along quite famously. Of course out here in Osulas...she could also just be the victim of some nasty rumors and stories he was sure the rogues and pirates just loved spouting when they were in their cups. Only time would tell which was which for this Katarina, and whether he'd have a headache at the end of the day or not. Serorans were known to be manipulative and impulsive, after all, although they had been trading fairly, and so far treated well during their impromptu visit.
"I am Sage Rycaron," the stallion replied, keeping the amiable smile firmly upon his lips. He didn't really need to introduce himself, he knew she knew who he was, but habits and proper introductions were ingrained into him. "I thank you, and Sultan Osprey, for your time today. I know it is not a favored task escorting an outsider about, especially a land bound one like me, but I truly do appreciate it." Ry remarked, determined to be utterly courteous and give this pegasus no reason to dislike him personally...that he could help. He was not home, and here Alya held sway, but he would always pity the winged equines, and even the other species, that they weren't able to witness and enjoy the world beneath the ocean's surface.
