Featuring Rycaron, Amara, and Pearl Mentions Malik
Set between Chapters 3 & 4
It always took his breath away, when he left the cave that was his current living quarters, and looked out on the world from the cliff city that was Osulas. The place was the exact opposite of all he was used to, even more strange to him than Aodh had been. At least there most equines lived on the ground, sensibly. Here...it was a pegasus' world, and that was clear. Land bound equines were at a disadvantage, though all were welcomed. Truly, Seroran's were a peaceful folk, despite all that had happened to them. Aqua eyes looked out upon the impossibly bright sky, lungs taking in a deep breath of dry air. It nearly made him shudder, and always gave him the feeling of being dehydrated. Oh, he missed his tropical home like he never had before. Even Valore had been near the sea...though they had slavery. It was a toss up right now which he'd rather have dealt with. Utter dryness, or heathenish culture. Regardless...he was here now, and at least he was alive and well. And so were several of his Emperor's wives and his three new children. Utterly grateful to Cascade for that, the chestnut stallion turned and entered an adjacent cave, stopping briefly to knock before entering at the welcome. "Greetings, Amara. How are you and the young ones?" Rycaron inquired, pulling up an actually sincere smile as he looked at the trio. It had been a few days since she'd given birth, but the Sage had kept well clear of the event. And up until now, one of her foals had been what seemed like constantly crying, and he hadn't want to be in the way--nor had he even an inkling what to do with a newborn, and an upset one at that. But he had gotten word that things had settled down for the little family, and he wanted to pay his respects and learn of the newest little ones. Twins, he'd been told. Post 1 WC//333

"Good day, Sage." Came Amara's soft, gentle voice. It was like silk sheets against your skin in the morning after waking up from a blissful sleep...only her expression did not reflect that. Bags circled her eyes, her forelock was matted from stress and sweat and her bright amber eyes, were dull. There was no Malik in sight, only a small curled up filly hidden beneath her mother's leg. Pearl was hiding, she had no tail to hide beneath. A leg would have to suffice! She looked up to Rycaron as he entered the room, eyes focusing on the stallion. In truth, she wondered if Pearl's crying had kept him awake yet something else cut that sympathy off, she was a new mother, this was a newborn. There wasn't much to be done about the situation.
"The young ones seem to be doing well, Malik has already made a run for it. He's off....Wandering and exploring and there isn't much anyone can do about stopping him..." She offered a warm smile, gesturing with her head for the Sage to come and take a seat on pillows nearby where Amara lay on her bed among cleanly strewn sheets. She flicked her tail, "Little one here however?" Amara's eyes were filled with doubt as she gazed at the albino hippocampus. She hadn't made a sound since the morning. "She makes me doubt whether she'll survive, Rycaron." Amara's eyes flickered back to Rycaron. "Time will only tell from now on, I think Cascade has overlooked us after the events that have happened." The mare's ears flicked back.
Meanwhile, whilst the grownups spoke...Little Pearl lay still. She may not have moved but- Her ears still worked... Her mother's doubt in her own health...They were big words, they must have some meaning. Did mother mean her?

Rycaron had to admit, Amara looked awful. She was typically the pinnacle of well kept, groomed and bathed, dressed nicely as per her station as Emperor Hawkeye's wife. Clearly having a newborn had been quite stressful, and taken a toll on her. Had she been getting any sleep at all? He knew little Pearl had been crying nearly constantly--he had heard her quite clearly. And while it might have kept him up at night when she was loudest, he had been able to get some much needed sleep--as well as naps during the day if he'd needed. He could only guess how Amara got any rest at all.
Ears perked toward the mare as he listened to her, nodding his head in gratitude as he moved toward the pillows and settled comfortably on them. He supposed he would have to greet the little runaway later then, as well as try and keep a close eye on him. He may have been born in Sedo, but he was a Talorian, and Ry bet they would have to remind him of that constantly, after his fun little adventures in the desert. "It is a whole new world out there for him," the Sage agreed, though he didn't bother to hide that the idea of the little one running about on his own sat well with him. "I do hope he stays safe though, we have no knowledge if we have enemies here, or if the Flight followed us." Worries were spoken aloud, though he imagined there was at least one Iron Hoof keeping a watchful eye on the little scamper, to make sure nothing happened.
Aqua gaze shifted to rest on quiet Pearl when her mother spoke of her, head tilting as he studied her solemnly, watching her watch them both back. "Why do you doubt?" the hippocampus inquired, curious and concerned. "I do not think the Wave Mother has completely overlooked us. She came to me while we were on the ship, blessed me with her presence and gift. But I do think think this is far for her to reach, with so much going on at home..." Rycaron added, sounding faintly troubled, though he kept most of it hidden.

Amara smirked, looking off to the window of her room. A simple carved window in the red stone which patterns laced with a beautiful white and tones of yellow. "He already yearns for adventure, I don't think anyone is stopping him. Guardian or not- That kid is ready to explore the world." She snorted, chuckling lightly as she curled her forelegs closer to her body. Though the mentioning of enemies did make her stomach, they were so far from Talori; Surely none from there would have the drive to cause a mess in a foreign land already. "...I see," With a deep breath, Amara looked back to Ry. "He'll be fine."
Pearl stirred and lifted her head from below her mother's leg. Her tightly curled forelock was a mess spread across her eyes, strands of hair caught in her long lashes. She stretched her small maw wide open, a small crackle of her voice reaching through and a squeak of a yawn sang through. Her head flopped onto the side of her mother's rump.
Amara frowned, swallowing and glancing at Pearl. "Rycaron...Did Cascade really let this happen?" She focused hard on his eyes with her own, tightening her jaw. "If she could bless you with a gift... Why would she gift Hawkeye such a sickly child. I'm sure you have heard, the first few nights- Her crying and screaming, her pain." Amara's voice wavered, the exhaustion and distress of her own child had really gotten to her. Malik had been assigned to sleep elsewhere, she assumed with Odette and Haven. Motherly at least... She sighed once again. "It's only been a few days yet she still cannot walk very far. What would you have me do with such a child? I've never done this before Rycaron. I don't know what to do. She refuses to feed- She refuses to move for her own health. She's stubborn, I'll give her that.." Her last words were mostly mumbled under her breath. Stubborn. Who could that be from...

The Sage only dipped his head in acknowledgement of the statement, knowing it to be true. The young colt would be fine, but he couldn't help but express his worry...not that doing so would do Amara any good in the long run, but at least she knew. He always thought it was better to know all the facts, to be prepared rather than be blindsided, as they all had been recently.
Aqua gaze dipped to the little filly as she lifted her head, offering her a rare warm smile, pulled from where he usually hide all such sincere expressions.
"Maybe it is all for a reason," Ry replied, tone soft as he turned most of his attention back to the filly's mother. "I...did hear it, and truthfully I am not sure how you made it through those days. It was heart rending," the stallion admitted, shaking his head gently as if to push those memories of the little things pain back to the past. "I know nothing about children, but we will find a way, Amara. For some reason Cascade gave Hawkeye a sickly child, but he also gave this one fins. Something must balance out there," the hippocampus said, voice firm with this belief. It was true, if she could do nothing in the future...then Pearl would not have a future, it was as simple as that. Everyone had to do something for the herd, and if Pearl was so weak...she was near useless.
Mind whirled with possibilities, for hope. This was the second time he had faced such a quandary, with a disabled hippocampus. "We shall have to see how she grows. If she can grow out of it, how quick her mind is. I will teach her to read and write, if nothing else I have need of a scribe and messenger in the palace. With a good familiar, it would be a decent job, and as the Emperor's daughter she could be trusted with more confidential messages. It would be something," the stallion offered, trying to give the exhausted and worried mare before him hope.
