Barun
War-Forged | Raider
“How in the name of Kaia?” The whisper was spoken in the deep boom of a rasp as intense as the heat as a fierce blue gaze looked out over what was coming into view. A snort was blown from his nostrils, the heat heavy on his back. From the maps the navigator had gone over, the position of the sun, every little detail the Range had managed to slip into the waters far west of their intended target. To be exact… directly west. They had been headed to Aquore to meet up with a… friend and a storm found her way into their sails. That gale ripped the control of the Ranger from even the steadfast helmsman and the Captain himself. In the end, they had lowered sails, battened down hatches and rode her out. Fighting her had been pointless. The short of it was it had been the choice that saw them through. The untamed waters might very well be home and Cascade’s domain but Kaia guided them safely to another harbor. He would see to thanking her properly at the temple when he stepped foot on Onea soil again. But now he had far bigger matters to deal with. The Ranger was in poor shape. She needed repairs. A careening for one, for both damages to the hull and to clean the barnacles unearthed from the sea floor that now attached themselves securely only to her to weigh her down. Then the sails needed their own repairs. The deck needed some minor fixes and in general, the exterior of the ship needed work. She was strong but the wind and driving rain and churning waves had taken her toll. But the first matter that he would need to see to is seeing just exactly where in Sedo they had wound up. That meant going ashore with a small party and gaining their bearings. For now, the Ranger would be anchored and given a Vanguard to protect her from any assaults. Her cannons still fired and she would not go down without a fight if the Serorans attempted something. But what mattered most is grasping where they were and how much time they had before patrols found them. They might need to hide the Ranger and try and repair her in secret or try diplomacy but either way, he needed a better understanding of it all. “Heave to and full stop! Drop anchor and await orders, men. I am taking a party to shore, the vangaurd and the crew stay behind until we know our situation. Protect the Ranger with your lives as you would lay them down for the War Lord herself. Hira gave us this ship and we will not let it fall into the hands of anyone. Be ready to fight. She is your home away from home… fight for her like she is.” He jerked his head to a few of the men and started off the quarterdeck as the row boat was prepared. The trip to reach shore was not hard but it did take time. The Captain stood strong watching what lay before him. Red sands clawed at the coastline, far from the pale ones of Aquore or the rocky crags of home. He wasn’t sure he liked the heat but the dun could not be bothered with such a thing. As soon as they were close enough he leapt into the water and helped drag the rowboat ashore and tuck her away. In the heat the water was welcome. A slow breath was forced from his dark lips as he turned to his navigator and waited for any sort of information. A few moments later a voice behind him spoke. “Captain?” Barun swung his large head around and one of the crew members jerked his head to port. Barun turned and narrowed his gaze. Fierce blue eyes locked onto a form. “Dammit.”--- POST: 1WORD COUNT: 651 we row beneath the black flag [/div]

Ruducio was tired and he could feel his back cooking in the sun. He tilted his head up at the sun, looking through his eyelashes so he could actually see. of course, today was the day that he was scheduled to be down by the docks. It had been years since he's even seen a ship. He read many books and always came aboard to help his mother load and unload. Today it seemed that there was some type of Coral import from the Talori that needed his inspection and approval for it to be allowed on shore.
One of the things that Rudy couldn't stand was all the salt water. The way it gripped to his coat and made his skin itch drove him crazy. As the crates were being loaded off and splashing on the shore, the bay stallion took more steps back and clung to the boathouse. One of the captains invited him in for a few drinks, in which Rudy followed but remained sober while the horses drank the incompetent liquid. Rudy enjoyed the stories of the travels the sea-farers encountered, but once the conversations directed towards which port had the be mares, the stallion left the building and stood on the shore, letting the breeze blow his mane up in the air. His ears pinned back listening to the loud laughter from inside.
After a few moments though, Ruducio's ears flicked to the left catching the sound of water lapping at the side of a ship. By the time Rudy could go and move from the dock and hide, the crew had landed and there was a dun stallion that glared at him. The bay took a deep breath and relaxed, moving from the wooden dock to the wet soft sand at the edge of the water. His tail flicked slightly and he gave a small polite smile.
"Good afternoon, well closer to evening I presume. "His voice came out monotoned, but there was a hint of curiosity. His eyes followed the water up to the damaged ship, hidden around the bend of the shore. He recognized the northern designs and colors, belonging to the War-Forged herd. Rudy seems to have a lot of encounters with these horses nowadays.
"Seems like you need some repairments. But I guess that depends on if you're gonna just take it or ask politely" His cocky grin overtook his lips.

Barun
War-Forged | Raider
Barun took care not to fly his colours in waters not of home until he set eyes on a prize and closed in. But in the havoc of the storm and the simple fact he had planned to meet up with an acquaintance of sorts the colours hadn’t been taken down. Tattered and frayed they clung to their post and flapped and shivered in the dry, arid, and hot wind. He turned his head over his shoulder to check the Ranger before he looked back towards the Sedo resident with a narrowing gaze. His sailors and officers seemed cautious given the situation but their Captain was, as always, fearless. With a dangerous air and a proud step, he closed the gap, the wet sands barely even shifting beneath his weight. He was sure footed. But that was what you got when you spent your life on the deck of a ship or training in the mountains or in sand pits or on beaches. He was trained to survive and he had so far. His men lagged a few steps behind before following after their Captain. It was not out of fear or cowardice but out of wanting to make it clear Barun called the shots for them. The respect among the crew for the dun was high and that did not change because of a bad situation or poor weather. Barun knew that. Closing the gap he pulled himself to a slow halt as he watched the seal bay. He spoke as though there was no other option. He spoke as though Barun did not have the coin or status to pay for the repairs. That alone was an insult he could not stand by. Beyond that, it was an insult to the honor he held as a Raider. He might very well be a bloody scallywag but that didn’t mean everything he did had to be theft. He paid for his own weapons, his own booze. The Ranger was his. He would not steal to take care of her. A snort left his nostrils, hot and forced and his face contorted into a rage filled stare. He watched that grin and he wanted nothing more than to kick it in on itself. A hoof cut at the sand, drawing a deep scar into the earth. Kaia gave heed and the sand folded back on itself. Behind him, the whispers of Cascade pulled him backward and sung along the edges of the Ranger’s hull. The wind spoke Alya’s word, hot and heavy and with like the fire of Ignacio himself the deep rasp burned through the air and cut at the flesh of the bay, seeking to scald, char and set ablaze. “After I’m done crushing your skull into the ground I intend to pay for the repairs out of pocket, low-lander.” He snarled and stepped a little closer, coming abreast the male so there was barely any room between them. “I suggest you get out of my way before you get hurt, colt. I have a lot to do and not much time to do it in… unless... “ He looked over at his crew for a moment. One man extra wouldn’t hurt and if this one was on the docks he either sailed, manned them docks or perhaps held some power. Either way, he could prove of use. “How would you like to earn some coin? You keep your teeth and gain some cash. That is if you can pull your weight.” The crew looked at each other and then back to their Captain. Clearly, he had something in mind and usually that boded well for them. But what it was was beyond them. --- POST: 2 WORD COUNT: 615

The young stallion still watched this Dun step through the water and towards him. Yes it was very intimidating the way the stallion carried himself, as well as his crew behind him. Rudy's smile faded from showing teeth to a simple curve in the lips. He raised his head higher, as well as sliding his hooves back some, more to stay away from the wet sand. He internally cringed at the crew, and captain's, manes sticking to their necks. Then his eyes trained on the crew. Many of them could easily overpower the lead Dun, but they stood without any hint of anger or degradation. He had to have power, to have good skills that would let him control all these powerful horses.
This stallion seemed like a very interesting one, one that could give Ruducio the information that he always yearned for. His eyes shifted back to the ship again. It would be easy to locate the supplies, they were just a little past the docks in the local village of ship merchants. With his council status, Rudy could easily get these pirates what they needed and be on his way, but that seemed too easy to him. He needs to prod at this intriguing Dun.
Rudy cleared his throat slightly, sounding like a scoff. Slowly he lifted his head a little more to be aligned with the stallion's eyes. "Well, there really is no need for the anger, pirate. I happen to be a council member which means I do have the upper hand to make you tasks easier or more difficult. " As the horse grew closer, Rudy balanced most of his weight into his back end, trying to create some distance because he didn't wish to feel the wet coat or the hard teeth on his neck.
At the stallions request, Ruducio gave a wider grim. "See here, I make enough coin that your trading value is irrelevant for me to go through such trouble. But, if you are willing to show my your way of life and some sea knowledge, then I would be willing to help. And I can easily pull my own weight for a 'young colt'." _________ Posts: 2 Word Count: 368

Barun
War-Forged | Raider
Once more the pirate’s eyes narrowed. Fire leapt through them, dancing in his blue gaze as he watched the male before him. The crew whispered to each other. Mutterings of what they thought their Captain was likely to do. They had sailed with him almost ten years now. They knew the stallion far too well to be wrong. But this situation was not quite one they had come across before. This child might very well be something he could cut down as easily as a training dummy but starting a war might not be worth it. Had he been War Lord and had an entire army at his disposal he might have taken the chance. But he was a Raider. And honor and loyalty came first. He respected War Lord Hira even if he was uncertain about the future of the War Forged under her rule. All the same bringing a war back to her doorstep was not wise. The low-lander, however, spilled his position and Barun once more broke Earth with his hoof, darkening the wound in Kaia’s skin. A snort and a shake of his head showed temper and rage and then his head jerked up. A flash of sun glinted as steel was drawn and placed at the neck of the male. The fire became an inferno as the stallion once more stepped into the other’s personal space. “Pulling your own weight is far different then hacking it as a scout much more a Raider. You wouldn’t last one day on open waters, low-lander. Even in the temperate lower seas. But if you think you can handle it fine, you help us patch up the Ranger and I will show you how this life works. You inevitable death though will be at your own hooves. You do the work or you don’t sail with us. And all sailors fight for War Lord Hira… to the bloody end.” He lowered the blade and once more it sheathed itself. The telekinetic grip he held on it loosening as he stepped aside. “The supplies come first. Until the Ranger is sea-worthy again we go nowhere. The work may take a few days or even weeks. But once she can sail, we leave. I will be writing my contact and rescheduling our rendezvous. Once we have the goods he has promised we are going home with them in tow and any prizes we come across along the way. As for you colt…” He paused. “If you make it to Onea alive, I will arrange safe passage for you back to Sedo if you desire it. But there is only one way to show you our way of life and that is to do just that. Show you. You are from here forth and able-bodied sailor aboard War Lord Hira’s raiding vessel, The Ranger which she has entrusted into the care of her Raider and the Captain of this crew, Barun... namely me. Once we start putting in the orders for supplies we will head back to the ship and you will leave your name in the roster. Your choice to give it to me now or not is yours and yours alone. As for your herd, I suggest you tell them your intentions. I will not have them thinking I kidnapped a herd member. But once we set sail there is no turning back until we reach Onea or we all or just you hit the bottom of the depths.” A snort left his lips and he stepped to the side lowering his head against his chest, his chin curling into his neck. For a moment he was in thought. “If a Seroran Low-Lander with no training can so boldly take on the sea I suppose I can’t stop you… I was infatuated with her by your age. She was home from the moment I first saw the waters rolling in off the coast of Onea. Being a Raider was just the only way I could reach her… killing and fighting for Onea, that came well before I fell in love with her. But they worked out either way.” --- POST: 3 WORD COUNT: 688 OOC: In which Barun is an asshat but and Ruducio somehow signs himself onto the ships roster for a voyage... idek what happened.

Ruducio glanced over the crew, they seemed perplexed with this type of situation, which made Rudy feel even better. He then switched his attention to the stallion in charged. there was such rage in his eyes, such fire. The young bay stallion grew even more interested in this pirate. His life seemed so full of adventure and new things that Rudy couldn't even come close to this type of life living here in the desert. All his life he wanted to leave here, but because of his protector and goddess Alya he had duties to help his herd and further their progress only by staying here.
But he was young and able to make his own choices. In his head, he waged the options of helping these horses. Yes, offering help would strengthen his relationship with some association with the War forged horses, but is that even worth anything anymore these days. It was better than the Talori but no one cared for these Viking-like horses. There was also a positive benefit because he would learn more about sailing with could help diplomatically in the future. As the stallion chose his path, he felt the blade touch his throat.
Ruducio lifted his head some as the blade was added with more pressure. He ears flicked at the stallions approval. He swallowed against the blade, but it was removed shortly after. "Well, I have no problem handling myself, I just have no experience of doing any of this, hence why I wish to help your cause. I follow the great sky goddess, Alya, so your Warlord Hira has no true hold on me, But, I am willing to respect your ways and beliefs. "
Rudy's smile faded and he took on a more serious tone. "The supplies will be easy with my help. There is a small village not too far from the docks that carry anything you would need. Your kind is no threat to our herd so there should be no conflict unless you choose to cause it. It should be a very painless process and you should be on your way quickly, Barun. "
"I, on the other hand, am only doing this for the knowledge so I would happily accept this gracious offer. I have nothing to hide and will write my name, Ruducio, upon your roster and devote my life to whatever cause comes. Sailing may not be my natural footing, but I can hold my own and show myself to you and your crew. I can lead to the village and then I follow your orders, Captain. " _______

Barun
War-Forged | Raider
A smirk danced across his umber dipped lips and he nodded slowly. It took more than just courage to stand up to Barun. He was a force to be reckoned with and one that would take pleasure in cutting your throat from your body. It was not quite respect the male had gained, that took far longer to earn. But he could appreciate the determination and will in the other. He pushed a breath out and looked to his men. “I want two of you to take the boat back to the ship and tell the Vanguard to stand down but be ready for any changes. As for the rest of you, you will help our new friend and I secure supplies. Get to know him. He’s going to be sailing with us, and remember what you swore when you became a Raider, remember you protect your own. He is one of us for the sake of this journey. So treat him as such.” Without anything else said the pirate swung his head around and started inland. Long strides ate up ground easily and even on the unsteady surfaces he held fast. Not a sound escaped him as he set their course. As before the crew held back a few feet, giving the room the Captain earned. Barun’s lips were pressed into a firm line, that fierce stare boring into anyone who dared meet his gaze. He carried with him a blinding air of danger. It hung about him and rolled off like clouds of smoke. It did not take much for others to realize they needed to avoid this stallion. Even in Onea he was fierce and usually avoided. His gaze swept the area and locked onto what seemed to be a shopping district of the small town. Quickly and sharply he heaved to and jerked his he for Ruducio to step forward. “Alright Ruducio, the crew will eventually bring in a list of supplies but the first step in acquiring the goods needed is making sure the merchants will even play nice with us. Then we can go about seeing what is in stock, what needs to be ordered and of course haggling prices. So you and I are going to go door to door and make sure everyone is…. on the same page. The rest of you will wait here. ” He paused slowly. “We will need food, potions, bandages and first aid supplies for the surgeon, fresh lumber, fresh woodworking supplies, cloth for the sail maker, and of course he needs thread and needle too, water, oh and… Rum. The men will want Rum and I will not refuse them. A happy crew serves you well and a happy crew requires Rum and respect for you and from you.” A slow sigh left his lips and he jerked his head towards the general merchant’s shop first to start in on food, drink, and water. “So with that said let’s get this shit over with. I still need to make arrangements at the local tavern for myself, officers and a few rooms for crew members to spend a night in so the whole time we are in port they aren’t stuck on the Ranger. They will have to share over the stay.”” He started off for the shop, one ear turned back to pick up the sounds from the other as he moved into the shop and locked eyes with the merchant. He seemed vividly shocked at the War-Forged Raider stepping inside but that did not surprise Barun. He stepped deeper inside and moved to the counter with a slow sigh. “I am in need of supplies for my ship.”” He said simply. The stallion blinked, blustered and frowned. “What’s in it for me?” “Gold.” He frowned slowly. “If someone finds out…” “Ruducio.” He jerked his head. “Sort this out… before I have to resort to other methods.”--- POST: 4WORD COUNT: 650OOC: Still an ass but better than last time. we row beneath the black flag

Ruducio followed the group along with no issue. This stallion, Barun, knew his way around port so the young bay just followed along without being a smart mouth about it. His hooves sunk into the sand he thought about what he was to do to help these merchants, well pirates, with their demands. If the council member would have just gone home instead of walking to the shore as the large ship rolled in.
Rudy glanced at Barun, and back at his men, as they galloped to the market square. The Dun was a grumpy, aggressive brute, but he had his wits about him, which made Rudy interested in him. He wanted to sail on a ship because his mother had always talked about the adventures that came with it when she would travel to Aodh. He wanted to feel that sea air cling to his coat, and see the sun rise on the aquatic horizon.
As the horses came to a stop, Rudy felt himself become slightly egotistical, for he was with a band of outsiders and this was his chance to show off his diplomatic skills. He stopped next to Barun and looked over to him. "This port market is small, but it should have everything that will meet your needs. As for a place to stay that would be on back at the docks. There's a pub there with all the rum you need as well as some cots to crash in, cheap prices for good products. I am close friends with the owners. "
He walked ahead of the stallion for a bit, thinking of where to go as Barun rattled off the rest of the list to him. He nodded his head and thought a bit till he no longer heard the dun's hoove steps. He turned to see him walk into the shop and pinned his ears at the conversation. Rudy stepped forward to the shop owner and cleared his throat.
"Good evening, sir. You see here this fine stallion and his crew had some rough seas while going to get supplies. Being that you are apart of the local sea community, there should be no issue in getting business from a sea-faring customer."
"And why should that matter, boy. I have the right to serve those I want and I don't need the shit that comes with helping these ruffians. "
"That may be a good point but as a council member to this herd, I would highly disagree. Helping those in need strengthens our relations with our other herds. And if we have that, the better business you get here in this, um.... quaint shop. "
The shopkeep grumbled and nodded his head. "What do you need?"
Rudy held his head a little higher and held a smirk. "Some lumber and cloth would be nice. And you would definitely give a better price for these men to cope with their troubles. "
"Fine, fine. Send me one of your crew members and be on your way to cheat someone else, boy. "
Rudy nodded his head, "Alya would smile at your generosity." He turned and went to leave the shop. "Ready for the next one, Captain."
