Rycaron & Corrine Setting: Underwater Garden in Kiephis both are in their late teens
Fins trembled in the wake of his emotions, as the young hippocampus zipped through the water, long fined tail propelling him quickly. Aqua gaze darted about, searching the waters for the apricot form he was looking for. Where was she? He had to find her soon or he might just burst with--oh! "Corrine! Corrine! I was looking for you!" Rycaron called out, nearly bumping into an artist toting his supplies as he tried to swerve about him. With a quickly murmured apology and sheepish smile, the goldfish entered the underwater garden, pausing a moment to take in the view. It was definitely one of the prettiest gardens around Kiephis, and not only because of the young mare currently within. It was exceedingly well taken care of, everything arranged just so, including the gently curving paths and glowing lights. The colors and plants he could see had been placed as to promote tranquility and peace, with bright splashes in little coves to serve as inspiration for artists. It reminded him he needed to calm down and catch his breath, another sheepish and apologetic smile offered to a cleric who eyed the young Rycaron and his energy levels as she left the garden. Get yourself together! Ry told himself firmly, clearing his throat as a flick of his long, elegant fins sent him moving easily through the water. He hoped he wasn't making a fool of himself, but he felt oddly giddy and embarrassed upon seeing Corrine. It was silly, really. He knew he liked her, she was his best friend after all. And he suspected he had a crush on her too, but to think their parents had been talking about an engagement?! Post 1 WC//284

Corrine was among the water lilies of the garden of Kiephis. Of course she was always found among the water gardens here, not willing to travel anywhere, where water was not obtainable. Her best kept secret was locked and the key buried deep within the sea. In the water, she did not feel like a cripple, she wasn't broken or something to be pitied. She was perfect, healthy, and everyone offered smiles instead of looks of something else. Corrine shifted a bit, relaxing as she floated at the surface, eyeing the small buds with wonder. When would they fully bloom, Corrine prayed it would be soon.
Ears flickered as she swore she heard a voice. "Ry?" she asked herself gently. "Was it him?" she muttered once more.Lifting her head she focused her gaze on the world around her, and not the small world she had made for herself within the water. "Ry?" she called out louder for anyone to hear, instead of speaking to herself. A habit she couldn't ever break even as a foal. Corrine narrowed her eyes, was she hearing things? She should be studying or something. Being a cleric wasn't going to be an easy job, but how could she focus when life was all around her. Plus now with the thought of hearing Ry, she really couldn't steer herself away to.... study. She wrinkled her nose at the thought, it wasn't her favorite part honestly. "Don't think about that Cor, relax we came here to relax." she gave herself a small pep talk in a soft spoken voice, so that no one near could hear the young one speaking to herself so freely.

Aqua eyes fixed on the pale, warm colors of his friend as he swam along the path, retaining his manners instead of swimming over the underwater plants. He had time, he needed to mind his manners. He was an adult now, after all, no longer wearing his wooden bead. Corrine seemed to be lost in her own little world again, probably focused on something--most likely her studies. She was so studies, something he admired, but the fact that she could zone out so much she didn't hear him calling always made him chuckle.
He moved upward through the water, toward where she floated near the surface by a stand of water lilies, below one of those air pockets land dwellers could use to also appreciate the beauty of this garden from above. "Cor! What are you so intent on?" Rycaron inquired when he came within easy speaking distance, a grin on his face that he truly couldn't help but sport. He was trying to contain himself, but he just felt like a whirl of emotion. Elated and hopeful, but also anxious and worried. He reminded himself to try and suppress any outward reveal of this, that that's what good diplomats and clerics did. But why was it still so hard?
Maybe Corrine's parents hadn't spoken to her yet? Mother and father might just have gotten to him first, since he had been home studying.

Corrine A sharp intake of breath was heard as let out a small gasp. She was back focusing on the flowers allowing her mind to wonder on anything outside the life of the Cleric for now. Who knew being a cleric was so demanding? Well she knew of course, but this much? All the time? I could be a bit overbearing she thought. So to see Ry and here him all at once, sent her nerves all hay wired. "Ry!" she exhaled, with a smile, but clear to see her friend had spooked her. "I was just looking at the water lilies here, don't get much attention when there is so much else to look at. They are about to blossom though." she remarked urging him to take a gander. She was fond of simple things, and things many seem to overlook.
"Though what are you doing out here?" she asked curiously. Corrine although could be home studying where many seem to find her now a days, she took a day off for herself to enjoy everything. She shouldn't forget the simple pleasures in life? But with her studying so much and her parents fear of interrupting such a crucial moment for their child, they had failed to announce a possible engagement between to the two. It was clear to many the two was close, as they spent much of their free time together. Corrine eyed Rycaron a bit "Are you okay?" she chuckled a bit sensing something was going on, but not really able to tell what was happening. Perhaps he found something new to show her? Learned something? The list could honestly go on, with the two.

A chuckle emitted from the orange goldfish's throat, when he saw that he had startled his friend. "I did not mean to startle you again, Cor," he remarked as he swam up beside her. Rycaron peered at the lilies, nodding his head slightly. "It looks like it, and they are really pretty when they blossom," he agreed, silent a moment as he contemplated the flowers. It had been a little while since he'd just...relaxed in a garden and enjoyed the plants and flowers within. He was always busy, always studying, or training or preparing for the future. He really should take more moments to just relax, and be.
Attention darted back the young mare when she spoke again, a quick grin flashing on lips. "I am definitely okay, and I came out here looking for you, actually," Ry replied, tilting his head and appearing unusually uncertain for him. It was becoming clear she hadn't had the conversation with her parents yet, or there was no way she was so calm about it all. Rycaron knew he was better at hiding emotions like that than Corrine was, though ironically he had no inkling at just how good she was at keep secrets.
"I just finished talking with my parents, actually. Have you seen yours today?" the hippocampus asked, gaze drifting once more toward the as yet un-bloomed lilies, as he basically, well...stalled. There was no other word for it, and he knew it. What was he even doing?

Corrine
Brow arose a bit, looking for her? "I figured you'd be at home with a book between your nose." she snorted a bit as she lowered her head so it was pretty much just floating on the surface. He asked if she had seen her parents, brow lifted a bit curiously, but ended up not thinking much of it after the pause. "Not really. I saw them for a second this morning, but I was already heading out the door. Needed the day away from the books and knowledge you know?" she smiled brightly at him, but not before blowing some bubbles with her nose, her eyes sparkling with mischief.
Corrine didnt give RY much of a chance to talk back, before she was moving down into the water once more, and nipped at his fin playfully as she swam in a quick circle. It felt so good to be moving like this! Something she never experienced in the world of land dwellers. Corrine was told by her parents, perhaps Cascade wanted to keep her for herself, it was why she was made to be in one form pretty much, a hippocampus. While she was perfect in this form, her other form. It made her cringe to think about it, her back legs knotted up, the pain was like something else. Luckily her parents and her have been able to keep the secret locked away, and hopefully it would stay that way, But there are times, when she is sure Ry knows something is up. Or perhaps its her guilt of keeping secrets that makes her believe such things.
She shook her head a bit, as her once tight ringlets or hair, was now free moving around her. Tail whipped about as she stayed in her position eyeing Ry wiht delight. "Well what have you been up to before you decided you needed to find me?" she asked sticking her tongue out playfully at him. At times she felt like a kid around Ry. he brought such happiness, he of course was her best friend, but at times, she felt as if things could be... more.

Rycaron snorted at her reply, unable to keep the impulsive response in check, grinning growing larger. "Maybe I was, and maybe I wasn't," he replied, sticking his tongue out in a most childish manner. Corrine was the only one who get such a response out of him, that he could and would be so free about. Everyone else...well, he tried to be more formal, more eloquent, since he'd set his sights on the chances of being an emissary. Something else he hadn't quite told his parents about, before the conversation about his current cleric training had taken a completely different turn and ended up on the young mare beside him.
The golden hippocampus watched the palomino swirl through the water, a bubbling laugh escaping when she nipped his fin and chasing thoughts from his mind. Any awkwardness vanished from his mind, replaced by the casualness he typically felt about his best friend. "Weren't you listening to a thing I said, silly? My parents sat me down for a talk," Ry told her, still grinning though once again he felt the spike of emotions at the reminder, as he tried to figure out how he really felt.
"Um, come take a swim with me," the adolescent requested, grinning and bumping his companion's shoulder as he swept down above one of the garden paths, gesturing with one hoof down the one he wanted to take. Maybe that would help the words come? He hardly ever was without them, usually always knew how and what he wanted to say...but this time not so much. It had seemed so easy in his head on the way here, but in front of Corrine he was becoming tongue tied.

Corrine
A coy smile grew on her lips. "You've been talking with your parents all day?" she remarked with a curious manner. "Must have had a lot to say." she chuckled a bit, but they were at a time in their lives, when the future had to be discussed and hers have been decided. She would train to be a devout cleric. Not much else she could honestly do, if she was being fully honest. She was lucky enough to do that. Its why she spent so much of her time studying learning trying to make sure her baggage would never out weigh the good she could bring.
Though as Ry asked her to take a swim with him, of course she obliged without much thought. When they could move anywhere here so freely, why just stay in one place. She eyed him curiously a bit, and for once she felt a little lack for words. Something she felt between them, but it was hard to place it, hard to really identify it. Perhaps they both were tired, life studying was never easy, especially when each of them had something to prove, something they both wanted to obtain from life. "Its been a while since Ive been here. Didn't even know they added new plants here. Even started growing more of a coral reef too." she remarked with a smile. "Im hoping to see more sea life here! Id love to see more manta rays." she laughed. A fondness for sea creatures she always had, and seemed to never be a fan of those that moved freely on ground. Her envious nature getting the best of her even in such simple manners as that. "Id love to have one, but mother says its best not to get anything till Im older." she remarked with a defeated sigh.

"Oh, they really did," Ry replied, a smile still slightly curving lips, though he was unable to reply with a sound of mirth of his own. Though truly, the conversation hadn't taken /all day/. Just a solid hour, and the next few had involved the young stallion swimming all over Kiephis and Corrine's likely hiding spots to find her. He was just beginning to decide that maybe blunt and a just stating the facts type of approach would be best to relay the information, when his best friend commented about the gardens. It was only too easy to snag upon this topic, instead of the one he really needed to talk about.
"The gardens are always being worked on and expanded. They really are something," Rycaron commented, tone soft as he looked about. It truly was a relaxing place to be, and beautiful to look upon. At her mention of the manta rays, Ry really did chuckle. "You know, we could always take a day off and go manta ray watching. We would just need to pack some food." Offer was made easily, and sincerely. If Corrine wanted it, he would research for hours to find the best spots and times to go watch the creatures flying through the water. "I think I'm more fond of sea horses myself, though," the hippocampus added, unable to bite back a grin at his play on words. Truly, he was fond of the tiny creatures, clinging to their bits of greenery, but he also loved the underwater city and its equine inhabitants too.

Corrine
A faint hmm was heard from her lips, as looked to Ry and his comments of speaking with parents. Though her face brightened as a soft gasp escaped her lips. "Truly?" she spoke, though not really a question of the act, but when it could be done instead. "That would be marvelous." she laughed all the more. Joy easily seen on ehr face, but it was so easy to get lost to the waves of joy and happiness when she was with Ry. It was as if she not something broken, instead she was something more. She forget that she had issues, and instead could focus so easily on now, and this moment. Though at the mention of his love for seahorses, she could help, but snort out a laugh. "Really?" she teased with her tongue sticking out playfully at him. "Would you ever consider one for yourself? A little seahorse, to cling to your mane?" she grinned as she swam beside shim and nipped playfully at his mane. Her body brushing against him in light contact, and she couldnt help, but enjoy the warm that came from it. So easy to get lost in simple joys.
A soft smile lingered on her lips as she looked playfully at her close friend, her dear friend. Probably the one equine that could know her better then herself. Well in most aspects, she thought. It only brought a sour taste to her mouth, what would change if he knew? Would this all end so easily? Did she find their connection so weak that something like this could change it all? But being a cripple in Talori brought its own challenges. It why she proclaimed to try and be a cleric, to heal others if she could never heal herself. Corrine eyed him with ease, the soft smile still on her lips, and she pressed her thoughts on. Surely she could trust him, surely it would change nothing, but a voice in the back of her mind whispered. 'What if it did?' She buried that thought, she made a commitment not to let any know. This was her burden, and like the stone in the river, she would adapt, she would change to better suit the flow of the herd.

"Of course! You just have to take a break from those books," Rycaron teased, though the same could be said for himself. Truly, it'd be really refreshing to get out and spend a day with Corrine under the waves, hunting down some manta rays. A definite but well deserved change of pace from how much they'd both been studying. When she inquired if he'd ever thought of one for himself, the young stallion could only blink. No, no he really hadn't, but the idea was suddenly very appealing. It would be a cute little companion to ease some of the tediousness of studying, and if it hid in his mane, he could sneak the little thing in anywhere.
Mouth opened to respond, but the chuckle nearly froze in his throat when she nipped at his mane, brushing against him playfully. She was warm, and it was nice, and before had always been not much more than friendly--but his parents had put something else in his head. Or given that something he hadn't really been paying attention to more of a name.
"I, I hadn't before, but now I sure am tempted. Think it'd look good on me?" Ry replied, forcing his tone to be light, though his easy smile never faltered as he watched his companion swim easily through the water nearby. Taking a deep breath, he supposed now was as good a time as any, and if he didn't say it soon he might explode, the young stallion decided. He wasn't sure if he dreaded her reaction or not--but he supposed he'd find out.
"Uh, Corrine? About earlier, and how my parents had been talking to me, and yours will be with you too, umm," aqua gaze flickered away from her pretty face, before he forced himself to look back, watch her instead. He couldn't be an effective emissary if he couldn't look equines in the eye when he spoke to them. And he had to get rid of those um's and pauses, though he suspected that had more to do with the current situation, certainly he'd never really had trouble speaking to others before!
"They uh, they were talking about our futures, together," Ry informed her, then realized that statement would probably make no sense. Come on, say it straight out! "They were talking about us getting engaged, arranging a marriage between us," he finally managed, the words a little rushed together, but finally out in the open. He'd been so surprised when he'd been told, but he thought it was a good match. He'd much rather be engaged to someone he knew than a total stranger as often happened in the Talori herd. But he had no idea how important it might actually be to Corrine, and her parents, and what they knew that he didn't--what his parents even knew now.

Corrine
Ry made her feel like a little filly at times, and of course it wasn't truly a bad thing, as he spoke of getting her nose out of the books, she stuck her tongue out, but a smile on her face remained. "Alright well we should make a day of it soon then." she remarked with a carefree tone. The thought of seeing manta rays made her feel better, and let her forget her crippling issues. As Ry spoke on he asked her if he would look good with a little seahorse. "Of course Ry, I can see it now, one all snuggled up in your mane, maybe right there."she grinned nipping at front part of his mane on his forehead. She laughed all the more with delight.
Though with all laughs aside, Corrine could sense the change of tone as Ry spoke about speaking with his parents earlier. Corrine slowed down and looked at him with a curious face. What exactly was this about? She felt her heart quicken its pace and all she could do was swallow lightly, and try to conceal the worry that threatened to seep onto her face. The moment he spoke of a future together, she cocked a brow nervously. What exactly was he speaking about? What they aimed to do in life? she wasn't to sure. But there was Ry, he seemed to be struggling with words, and she felt her heart quickens it beat once more, making her cheeks redden a bit. Biting her cheek she tried to bring her focus back on him, nothing else but him. What was truly going on? She never said a word as of yet, afraid her voice would fail her, or she would become some blubbering mess. Instead she waited, ever so patiently.
"They were talking about us getting engaged, arranging a marriage between us," Those words of his flowed out and as soon as they hit her ears, her cheeks turned as pink as the starfish on the beach. Her heart skipping and haltering and it seemed as time itself just froze if only for a few moments. Engaged to Ry? It was something she never put much into thought, honestly she assumed herself a bit unworthy of such things, but his parents had suggested it and was this Ry asking her thoughts? What did he think of this all? Was it too much, was she not enough. She gulped down as she spoke softly. "Engagement." she remarked tasting the word like a fine wine, her parents allow her to have at times. It tasted sweet on her tongue, it awakened something in her, she never knew she was needing. A trembling smile graced her lips, of course she would imagine the worse of the worse, and that smile grew more confident, as she began to chuckle faintly. "Oh Ry you made me so nervous, you nilly." she teased him laughing all the more, but not in a teasing manner, but that sort of relief. "Well I'd be glad to marry my friend, someone I knew then not at all, or some nitwit." she laughed all the more with joy. Corrine looked to Ry smile brightly, though the pink flush on her cheeks ever so noticeable.

Rycaron tried to focus on his companion's face, so he could see her reaction, anticipating but dreading it at the same time. And yet he kept glancing away, unable to suppress the sheepish reflex at the moment. Aqua gaze zoomed in on her cheeks as they seemed to pinken through her hair. Worry bloomed in his heart as he saw her gulp, and test out the word, voice trembling faintly. But with what emotions? He yearned to know, and then that tentative, wavering smile touched her lips and grew, and relief swept through him like the tide, only growing more pronounced when he heard her soft chuckle--she didn't hate the idea, didn't dislike him that way.
As her laugh grew, a giddy smile broke its way onto the young stallion's features, showing his own joy. "That's what I was thinking, and I'm really glad you don't...you know, dislike me that way," Rycaron remarked, relief plane on his face. Of course he meant attraction in a physical sense, she already liked him as a friend, he knew that, but he didn't knew if she thought it could be...more. If he were good enough for her light and beauty, friendly ways. Maybe he really was, or he'd try his best to be.
"I don't think our parents have made it official yet, but we should arrange that picnic, and take along some good things to eat and drink. Make it a celebration?" Voice rose with the last part, forming it into a question, as if he needed to make sure once more that she wasn't displeased with the idea of him. All the while, a sort of goofy and silly smile was plastered across his face. Off all the equines in the sea, he'd be able to marry his best friend. Cascade must be pleased with them.

Corrine
"Of course I'd never dislike you that way. I've always found you quite handsome and endearing." A smile etched so perfectly on her face, she swore she destined to smile like this, to feel it not only in her heart but everywhere. That smile of utter bliss and pure happiness was nothing she had felt before. It was made of her, for her. Laughter spilled from her lips like a melody as she listened to Ry talk of a picnic, a way to celebrate. "A picnic would be amazing, truly, plus allow us time to speak with the parents of course." Corrine was giddy with delight, almost feleing drunk with happiness, albeit she never had been drunk, but had felt the lightheaded from having a bit to much wine with dinner. This though, was breath taking, it made her feel relaxed, it made her forget. Forget the secret she needed to say.
"Thank you for sharing this with me, Ry." she responded while blushing all the more. "Perhaps we should head home. Im sure we have been out here for a while." she chuckled and she had wondered if Ry was eager to converse with his parents that all had went well. Corrine was of course eager to speak to her own. With that thought, she remembered. The secret all very much of her own. A secret that perhaps could wreck it all. Surely she did not dislike Ry in a sense of being romantic, but could the same be said for herself. Still she blushed, and kept the mask on of smiling. She needed to go home, to talk with her parents, to work on a plan. A way to ensure if this did end the engagement surely she could save her friendship with him. "I best get going, surely my parents are waiting for me." she remarked. Without a moment to spare she quickly pecked him on the cheek before swimming off, chuckling with delight. Yet still the sense of worry and dread clung to her like a cloak.
